  • Being my first car review ever, I know this wasn’t the best. I’ve got lots to learn, so go easy on me. But the facts still remain, the 2020 explorer has some positives and negatives; but the negatives seem to out weigh the positives.

    Nice vid! My ford dealer repaired my leaky rear passenger window on the third trip in to the shop. I had to find and isolate the leak by taping around the outside window with painters tape and removing a piece at a time and then taking a drive until I found the leak to be on the rear vertical seal. Only after proving the leak could be silenced with tape they finally repaired it.

    Great review, we have a 2020 luckily with no problems...regarding your rear seat air noise, we did experience that but I did figure out that if you have the fresh air mode on, it will blow through the vents in the rear of the car, making extra noise. Try turning on the recirculating air and see if that helps!

    I agree with so much of your review. We traded our 2017 Explorer in for the 2021 and I regret it every day.
    Most of what you said seems true to me. We have had to bring it back to Ford 3x for electrical problems. Front instrument cluster went out, remote keyless entry stopped working twice and the starter stopped working during the annoying auto restart so we were stranded in tbe street and had to have it towed.
    Vehicle rattles constantly.
    I so wish I just kept the 2017 Explorer.

      There’s no telling! You’ll know when it starts leaking. The fluid goes everywhere. It will also start to make a super loud whining/grinding sound. Ford just keeps replacing the transmission cooler, but every 5,000 miles or so it happens again. Hopefully there will be a recall for it soon.

    I have the 2022 and have had it for three years and 62k miles. This thing is perfect. One of the best highway driver suv's I've owned. All who review it talk about power but everyone fails to put the vehicle in sport mode. In sport mode this is like a different vehicle. It's the "Little red sports car" mode!! Also at highway speed in sport mode, I get over 30 MPG!!! Ford has this transmission and engine tuned in perfectly.

      I have an 2020 ST, dealer already performed a reset of the "learning driver habits" , was fine for about 2 weeks and came back. Third time its going back to "get looked at". we'll see what happens. But i suggest you call the corporate number about the issues. I have found that if you call corporate and tell them they will call the dealer of your choice and get them to move faster in the process of setting an appointment and diagnosing the issues rather than just parking up there at the dealer and letting it sit till they get to it. Plus you need to have a record or document all service requests regarding the transmission. If enough people report these issues the quicker a recall will come on those issues.

    great review. As others, I have almost the same vehicle, but with 4wd, even the same color, just the interior is different It seems Ford might have fixed a lot of the issues you seemed to have had, I've got 18k miles on mine and its been smooth and non leaky lol. I take mine offroad all the time and have no rattles, so either the 4wd has more insulation or again, they fixed it. I have a late build. The only thing thats the same is the poor fit of the panels to either side of the radio/hvac area. Also because my interior is slightly different the button quality is nicer then what you seem to have. Maybe we have a slightly better interior option package, or they changed in the later builds? They should have also fixe all those leaks under warranty

    Thank you for a great review! I have a 2020 that looks identical to yours except mine is an AWD Limited model. All colors/seats the same. (In the rear seat, the two USB ports behind the left little door is a regular USB and the new USB-C. There are also two in the front middle console (forward of the transmission knob, under the silver compartment thing).
    Love my car but there have been 5 or 6 recalls already and a crooked/dirtbag Service Advisor at Livermore Ford in California assured me that he personally made sure all fluids were topped off with my oil change and that a faulty battery was found so they replaced it. I took video of everything under the hood before dropping it off because I’ve had so many problems with Ford Service back in the 80s that I told myself “never again”. This was with the same dealership that back in the 80s was called Codiroli Motors where I bought my first new car, a 1986 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer, maroon over tan. Judy was the salesperson, related to the owner I believe. (Just putting it there in case the new owners see this post).
    Dealership still uses COVID as the excuse to not have loaner cars or a shuttle to home/work. I’m disabled and I’ve already been there for Service several times, costing me an Uber ride.
    The Explorer is very comfy and plush as you described. My plan was to purchase the Platinum model when I was there, but I went to test drive one and couldn’t stop laughing at the ridiculously HUGE infotainment screen mounted in portrait mode. It looks stupid sticking up like that and I asked the sales guy (who knew nothing about the entire Explorer line) if it’s adjustable. He said yes and almost tore it off the dash. The MSRP sticker said it came with rear seat dvd entertainment. I pointed it out to him and his answer was, “Huh. Maybe Service has to install it”. No, even I knew that’s not the answer. During the test drive, I asked him what the pull switches do on the center console. He said he wasn’t sure, and started pulling them. I said the car feels really weird now. Spongy steering, weird braking and weird gas pedal. We were on a slow city street going around 25, and I saw a bunch of smoke pouring out the back. (He turned on the electronic e-brake, the moron). When I pulled over, the smell of burning rubber was strong. Then the “no gas” warning turned on. Long story short: I ended up downgrading to the Platinum. The ridiculously huge infotainment screen was something I couldn’t live with. The normal one in the Limited is great! So that’s the one I bought!
    Thanks again, and take care.

    These 2020 models have a habit of leaking gear oil from the drivers 4x4 actuator hub. There's an 'o' ring where the axle goes through the oil pan. That's where it leaks. It makes people think it's their oil drain plug. Transfer case on side only holds about half a quart. Don't let it drip dry.

    Conventional wisdom has always been: never buy the first year release of a new generation. So... all 2020 Explorer reviews on quality don't really matter (whether they are positive or negative). I expect them to have problems (this is not just a Ford thing). I rended an Explorer and loved it but it was a 2022 or 2023. I'll eventually get one, but will wait to see how the generation improves as they fix quality issues each year.

    @DanoWpg 2 года назад

    Oh man! I bought a 2020 Explorer XLT after driving a 2019 for two weeks (and loved it). They are NOT the same vehicles at all! Like you, I HATE the transmission in the 2020! I had an issue with hard shifting from 2nd to 3rd and down from 3rd to 2nd. Took it to the dealer and it was down almost a full quart of fluid! I'm not leaking it anywhere, so where did it go? My transmission at 30-35MPH will be in 8th gear and just over 1000 RPM...that's ridiculous! If you have to do any kind of defensive maneuver, if you don't smash it to the floor, it just lugs along until it decides to drop a gear, several seconds later. Sport mode shifts better, even if it's a bit higher in the RPMs but the downshifts are harsh. it's like they want you to feel that you're driving a stick and you suck and downshifting. Also the brakes are weird in this vehicle...you put your foot on the brake and it's slowing down as it should but after a few seconds they just start to suddenly brake harder, but you haven't changed your pedal pressure. You have to constantly feather the brake pedal so you don't get this jerky braking...but the dealer says that's normal. I've also had problems with the AC suddenly not working on a hot summer day...that got fixed and then in the winter, I had no heat at -30 outside. After several attempts at the dealer telling it it's normal (and charging me for a diagnostic fee while under warranty), I figured out it was a problem with the blend door motor. Got them to change it AND refund my money. I do get some on those rattles on occasion but for the most part, it's not too bad. I'd ditch it right now but the costs of vehicles up here in Canada is crazy. Dealers are starting to get stock in but there's not much and what is around is several thousands more and financing rates suck. I'm glad I took out extended warranty on this vehicle cause I think I'm gonna need it!
