Exactly this! Every age of Nightwish is amazing in its own way and the people who insist on gatekeeping aren't really fans, they're just looking for a confirmation bias about their favorite song. I love Nightwish, I have a vocalist that I prefer for the band, but that by no means stops me from listening to everything else they have with joy.

For many of us, Floor Jansen is a once-in-a-generation artist, managing to cover a diversity of vocal styles with masterful control, making her the perfect frontwoman for Nightwish, a band whose compositions are predominantly a melange of musical styles. (classical, folk, pop, metal). She joined the band as an emergency replacement halfway through the world tour promoting the album "Imaginaerum" (2011) when their 2nd singer could no longer continue due to health reasons. This concert took place towards the end of this tour, when Floor had joined the band for about 10 months. As a natural consequence, Floor sang in this tour exclusively songs recorded in the studio with the first 2 soloists of the band, Tarja Turunen and Anatte Olzon, demonstrating a huge capacity for adaptation, talent and creativity.

First of all, there is no "wrong" song to start your Nightwish journey with. The 2005 version of Phantom is iconic and well loved by all the Nightwish fans. Some might say that it's a good idea to start closer to the beginning of Nightwish and work your way forward in time. Nightwish just doesn't put out bad music. I would say that the most important thing is to find the videos that are best for that particular song, and Gabriel's list will be of tremendous help in that matter. Other than that, I say, go where you want, explore as you will. You will find such tremendous variety in their music, from lovely ballads, to songs with a definite Celtic influence, to hard and heavy rock/metal. I like the way you analyze the songs, and I am looking forward to hearing you analyze more from this great band. And, if you want to hear more of Marko and Floor, try another song from this concert -- "Romanticide."

Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied.

Floor is known for inducing goosebumps. People call them Floorgasms. You are right about Floor’s incredible versatility. Nightwish is best live, so your instincts are right about that too.
Are they though? I mean they're fantastic live and I've heard almost everything they've done (sans Perfume), but as much as I enjoyed live, I got a lot more enjoyment from their studio work where there's a lot of depth and detail that is lost at the bigger sound of a concert. I suppose to each their own, but I have a hard time believing this is more about being better with live than it is more about being better because of Floor.

You can not start with the wrong song. They have lots of great songs. Seen them live a couple of years ago. Amazing live band. Some people say the best female singer on earth. This is BS of course. But she is amazing. I am from the Netherlands where also Floor is from. Big fan of her and Nightwish. Seen a couple solo shows of Floor. She has a great Soloalbum and lots of songs and covers on her own channel. Thanks for this reaction.

@@tomvenner6030 Floor can do it all. Opera, metal, rock, pop and everything in between. For me Tarja is too operatic and Anette totally not operatic. So for me Floor is the best fit for Nightwish.

"Wrong"? No, I think there's no *wrong* way to experience a band, and I really enjoyed your reaction to Phantom of the Opera.
It is true that this song is a better example of newer Nightwish than the previous one you chose (not least for the reason that it's they're own song, rather than a cover of someone else's). It's also true that Floor is a mindbogglingly skilled vocalist. The 2005 version of Phantom is also an *excellent* piece of work. Ghost Love Score is a great choice to experience Nightwish further, so good pick as your second by them. However, *all* of their music is excellent, so I don't think there are bad songs to choose from in their catalog.
Always fun to watch someone experience their first Floorgasm, though :)

Loved your talk about energy and feedback from the crowd. As you dig deeper you will learn why Floor was available for Nightwish. She had a mental breakdown from prior work because she did not learn how to release all that feedback energy. In that process she learned she is empathic (HSP). She needed to learn how to channel all that incoming energy and take time to release it. She now lives in nature with horses (empathic animals), has a husband and two daughters. Balance is everything.
Floor is why I’d listen to Nightwish, but there are some songs that fit the other singers styles perfectly. Toumas is an amazing writer and knows how to use their instrument. Sleeping Sun Tarja is perfection; Wish I has and Angel may have been their first big hit. Amaranth, Bye Bye Beautiful and Eva fit Annette’s styles.
At Wacken Floor was singing covers. She had only been with them 10 months and had recorded nothing. You will eventually move past these to get to new songs written with and for Floor. Elan, My Walden and Shudder Before the Beautiful have more designed vocal shift from their first album together.

82,000 people. This was 13 of 15 songs, they had been playing for 1 hour and 10 minutes before this. All the songs at this concert were great. Floor our Valkyrie Goddess can sing every thing. All members of Nightwish are great musicians. Marko the bass player is a very good vocalist in his own right. Welcome to Nightwish!
Ghost Love Score was written by Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist (99 percent of all Nightwish songs are composed by Tuomas) , and was written for Tarja Turunen who was the original vocalist that you saw in the Phantom clip - Floor rearranged the ending of Ghost Love Score, with Tuomas's blessing, and it has become the band's most iconic version now - Even though Floor has now been with the band for 12 years and has recorded 3 albums, written with her vocals in mind, she has turned most of the original songs, written for the first 2 vocalists, into her own versions in some way or another

I'm so glad you liked this song! This song was no. 13 of the setlist (out of 15). As for a song with Floor and Marko... my favorite "Song of Myself" also Wacken 2013 and no. 14 of the list. There’s no wrong song to start with!! I’d even argue Tarja is the best way to start off your Nightwish journey as the original singer and voice of the band. True fans love all of Nightwish’s singers. If you want more Tarja, I’d suggest Wishmaster live from the End of an Era concert. 🤘

This song was 3rd from the end. Floor is known for having a fan pointing up in front of her position on stage. This is a major festival in Germany there were 82,000 present. The w is pronounced as a V as it is German. At this point Floor has only been with the band as a replacement singer for about 10 months. Originally she was filling in after the previous singer quit mid tour. To give you an idea of how big the band is they are the closing act of this major metal festival.
To be fair Anette didnt quit, she got fired. And thats a very good thing as NW is much better with Floor❤

I have some info on Floor Jansen for you here.
She is married to Hannes Van Dahl, drummer of the Swedish power metal band Sabaton. Together they have 2 daughters (Freja & Lucy)
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 3 octaves (C3 to F6). Re-singing style ranges from opera to screams and grunts. She usually sings in English, in addition she has also sung songs in Dutch, German, Spanish, Finnish, Latin, Italian and Swedish.
Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she cool singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.

There is no such thing as wrong start, wrong song, wrong singer etc with Nightwish. Each era of Nightwish has brought us wonderful musical compositions, and each singer has given her touch and feel to the band.
This song was written for the first singer, Tarja Turunen, but Floor was called in mid US tour in the end of September 2012,to fill in for the second singer, Anette Olzon, for the reminder of the tour. This show at Wacken Open Air in Germany, was in front of 82000 and was at the end of the world tour.
I have listened to Nightwish since late 90s and loved each era, but my favourite is Floor as she manages all (and I mean ALL) singing styles.

You didn't make a mistake and there is no wrong video. Some "fans" are a bit unhinged when it comes to what video reactors should react to but at the end of the day, Nightwish is a great band that had 3 amazing singers in its history. Don't listen to the haters ( either the Tarja haters, the Anette haters or the Floor haters). That said, if you follow the list that Gabriel undoubtedly gave you in his usual post, you can't go wrong.

Well there's really no wrong song to start with on this band. All I can say that if you can, always choose live performances since they are great live band.
I apologize wholeheartedly that some commenters made you feel as if you did something wrong. The only way you could have been wrong with where to start your journey, was to not start it and provide commentary on a band you had never actually listened to. Long time fans listened to Tarja and Annette before hearing Floor take on Tuomas' masterpieces, there is no reason why you couldn't do the same.
Gabriel's list, although a great roadmap, isn't the only route through the Nightwish Catalog. Like I said in your first video, I personally appreciated the different starting point.
That being said, this is YOUR channel, the Nightwish Army will show up with each new video regardless of order. Be honest, be yourself, and most importantly listen to the music and provide genuine reactions, the views and subs will come.
As for this video, I can tell you get the music, you knew that Floor was building to something the entire song, Thomas wrote it that way, and she delivered way more than even he anticipated. If you watch Floor's own reaction to this same performance, she explains that this is her ending to GLS. As for dueting between Floor & Marko in the earlier stops on a typical NW Journey here are my recommendations:

Greetings from Canada. Welcome to our obsession. A Nightwish concert is about 1 3/4 hr long, continuous, with minimal breaks between a varied setlist of 15+ songs. Mid concert there is usually an instrumental piece (like the celtic Last of the Wilds) to give the singer a break, and sometimes a costume change.
In older concerts the midshow song was often a cover, with just the guys.
This is how we got the amazing tribute to Pink Floyd's High Hopes. As a Pink Floyd fan..... wow.

Screw that, there’s no bad way to begin your Nightwish journey. Floor is awesome and otherworldly, but no need to ignore the band’s long and wonderful history. Proceed as you wish and true Nightwish fans will follow!
Personally I prefer Floor, but Tarja is also extremely talented, but the style of singing is not for me, but that does not mean that you will be the same, so listen to all 3 of their singers and you decide.
A good way to react to Nightwish is to follow Gabriel Bardac's post, as he usually posts ver quickly on new reactors discovering Nigthwish.

Vous venez de faire connaissance du métal symphonique et de notre reine Floor, mais vous n'avez qu'effleuré le dessus de l'iceberg et vous n'êtes qu'a l'entrée du terrier de lapin. Continuez sur le festival du Wacken Open Air 2013, vous êtes sur de ne pas vous tromper, les quinze chansons du set sont des classiques pour tous les fans du groupe et sont à écouter absolument. Nightwish Army Cleveland, Ohio Chapter reporting. I have been a diehard Nightwish fan for over 20 years. There really isn’t one definitive starting point with this band. Because they simply make nothing but amazing music. But this is one of the most amazing performances ever. If you want to hear more of Marko and Goddess Floor harmonizing, check out the song Romanticide from this same concert. Another good one is Weak Fantasy from the Tampere Finland concert in 2015.

There is so much variety and so many nuances to their music ... and their live performances are, in my opinion, simply breathtaking. Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen (third and current singer) is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band "After Forever" from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at "After Forever", she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band "ReVamp", which was disbanded in September 2016.

From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020. And the tenth studio album Yesterwynde released on 20 September 2024 by Nuclear Blast.

Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.

Floor Jansen did covers for two "Frozen" songs and Tuomas Holopainen (Metal Mozart) composed a whole album for Scrooge McDuck (album: "The Life and Times of Scrooge").
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people (one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open-air festivals in Germany). The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.

Although the band is Finnish, Floor Jansen, their 3rd singer is not, she is Dutch, lives with her husband Hannes van Dahl, the drummer of the band Sabaton and their two daughters in Sweden. Floor was born on Februari 21st, 1981 in Goirle the Netherlands. At the age of 16 she started her career (initially) just as the background singer from the Dutch metal band ‘After Forever’ in 1997, but real soon she took over the lead until early 2009 and the band fell apart. Parallel she studied at the Dutch Rock Academy in Tilburg starting in 1999 where she graduated in 2003 and spent two years on classical training with the National Conservatory. She studied Musical Theatre and one year Opera. She plays guitar, piano and flute and has completed 12 years of music studies. She’s a Light Lyric Soprano and her vocalrange runs from E3 to D6. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons.
On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ‘ReVamp’, which was disbanded in September 2016. In August 2010 Jansen was a guest in the TV program De tiende van Tijl. In that program she sang an aria by Puccini. From October 1, 2012 (while she was within ReVamp, but recovering from a burnout) Floor replaced Anette Olzon as the singer of Nightwish halfway their Imaginaerum World Tour. After one year (shortly after the Wacken Open Air festival concert 2013) on October 9th 2013, it was announced that she was to become the group's regular new front singer.

Nightwish, After Forever and ReVamp worked under the same Nuclear Blast record label. Tuomas and Floor know each other since August 20th, 2002 when Nightwish played in a sold-out and swelteringly hot “Hof Ter Lo” in Antwerp with After Forever and Charon as support act.

Nightwish is their own genre and no other band comes close to the level they are at. Never, in the history of music entertainment, have a set of skills and talent collided in such powerful manner. Tuomas is a true genius as a composer and with lyrics.

I'll simply point out one aspect of this amazing collaboration -
I was there, and I can attest to the Fact that nearly all of us 82K present were actively singing All of the original backing vocal track passages at the top of our "we've been here a couple days while drinking, etc too much" voices!
I think this says SOMETHING.

Did not realize I caught this so early. Duets…I Want My Tears Back, Romanticide, Last Ride of the Day. and many others. Also lead in Islander (Tampere) with some backup. You can find many of them live at Wacken, Tampere and/or Wembly. You decide if you want to mix it up or stick with the amazing mix that was Wacken.

I can count on one hand, how many songs sound better on the albums, and I'd have several fingers left over. Nightwish is a live band. They feed off the crowd. The only exception is their second singer, Anette. She's a very talented vocalist that is terribly inconsistent in a live setting. Sometimes she knocks it out of the park, and sometimes you're squirming in your seat, waiting for it to end. Marco and Floor's voices go together like they were born to sing together. It's really an auditory treat. The stand outs, to my memory, are Romaticide, 7 Days To The Wolves, and Weak Fantasy.
This song never fails to deliver goosebumps. Romanticide is a great double vocal Nightwish song. And while you're in Finland, add Battle Beast (more traditional power metal but with a voice you won't forget) to the list.

You mentioned pitch correcting. I watched an audio engineer analyze this performance. He showed examples of what pitch correcting looks like in an audio waveform. Then he showed the waveform of Floor singing here. It is obviously _not_ pitch corrected. There are natural imperfections that are to be expected in an uncorrected waveform, but her pitch for the vast majority of each note is dead-on. Hail the Queen of Metal (and the reigning Queen of Music IMHO).
