On the subject of trimming. Sometimes I think it would be good if for a year we could go back to black market sales and all dispensary close for a year. Back in the day when you bought an ounce and weight of 7 grams was all seed with a couple of logs with no bud on it. Plus a gram or to of “shake” and we were god damed happy to get it. Maybe I am finally just to old. Iv been growing my own now for 22 years. Got my first med card in 2000. We truly live in a different day today. Oh and I’m 60 years old. 100% disabled vet. Cannabis is truly a gift of health for me. Thanks for the interview guys. Keep at it.
@@historyhunter5215 I thought that’s what you meant but I wasn’t sure. I personally like to smoke the best I can get for my money, but I feel you, i got a friend that’s mid 50’s. He just wanted bud like back in the mid 90’s. Some lower grade pot that he can sit back and enjoy the smoke, and not get blasted so quick. It was actually a mission to find what he was looking for. But overall there hasn’t been an issue here since it was legalized, Southern California.
My personal harvesting method (for tent growing): - No washing needed, as stated in the video. - Clip each branch individually, removing the large fan leaves only. Hang them. - Small fan at the bottom of drying room for the first day or so, keep off after that. ( I do this in my VERY humid climate to reduce the chances of mold. If you're in a dry climate ignore this and you may even need a humidifier and out take fans.) - Harvest when the stems are just dried out enough to snap but NOT break. You will know what I'm talking about when you feel it. If it snaps , you're way too dry. (Don't worry they can be saved but there's plenty of RUclips videos on that.) - Finish trim, removing any remaining fan leafs and trimming the sugarleaf and bud to the traditional nugget look. Save your sugarleaf (the thc coated leaves) and make hash! - Stash in jars for 3 weeks minimum. "Burping" (opening the jar) for 10-15 minutes. 2 times a day. For the first week. Also dumping it out and refilling the buds, replacing the bottom ones with the top. Again, for the first week only. Second week, burping once a day for 10 minutes. Shaking the jar. After the second week you only open once a week, really only to check on it. Give it a shake or two of course. After a month it's ready to smoke (in my opinion). But the magic happens between 2-3 months from my experience. Trust me, it's worth the wait. But as the video stated keep an eye on humidity and take appropriate actions IF necessary. Hope this helps. @@ClearWater7.62 I don't think I said anything about a bag...I never use those as they dry out the bud too fast and unevenly. I just hang in a separate small grow tent, like a 2x2x4 I think it is. As for your second question, yes. Trim the bud to your liking now and jar it. Follow the burping routine and in a month...quality smoke. Also, make sure to safe your trim (only the small leaves with thc on them, toss the big fan leaves) and make hash with it. Iso hash, bubble hash etc. There are plenty of methods on RUclips. Hope this helps.
Bud washing ABSOLUTELY DOES! AFFECT THC CONTENT, TASTE, AND SMOKE PROFILE OF YOUR FLOWER! If your submerging your flower in a bucket filled with acid and then a neutralizer and then you sunk it again to get that off! I did it twice and had to give the flower to my chickens because the flower was very displeasing
Sounds like you did it wrong. Dilute your solution and be gentle. I do it if I battle pests, water only if not. I rinse off road dust with water. Don't want to smoke dirt.
With my setup in my basement, I have mylar duct taped to the drop ceiling rails hanging loosly from the ceiling to the floor for my "tent" walls. that way I can make my grow room as big as I want and there is a heat run in the ceiling in the middle of it to provide ventilation and heat for my winter grows. Works perfectly.

@@andrew56129 Cannabinoids such as THC and CBD are fat-soluble and hydrophobic, meaning you won't lose them when you bathe your bud in water. Plus, those fruity and floral terpenes are locked up in a sticky resin. As long as you carry out the process mindfully and gently, you'll preserve these key molecules. If you are being an imbecile obviously your product can be ruined, just like if you dry and cure incorrectly.
This Podcast was great! Even though I followed Pigeons420 and hear him talk about this before and I pretty much follow his tip, I can listen to this one over and over again. You forget things so when I am ready to harvest in Oct I will come again to remind me what is best to do.
Overall this is one of best interviews Iv watched. What caught my interest the most was the guy willing to walk back previous beliefs. A rare thing in growing cannabis. Full of practical advice.
I made a curing cabinet with heat, humidifier, dehumidifier and exhaust fan. Perfect dry every time. It has a light too because I use it for an overflow cabinet for plants.
You ALWAYS take into consideration, that some of us might not even have our first harvest under our belt yet. Even after all these videos. It’s greatly appreciated! Along with some of the most helpful info on RUclips man.
I have been growing 54 years and it does take time to get it under your belt. You must keep it simple and not Start buying a lot of unnecessary stuff. Good luck in the future
Just about to harvest my 3rd outdoor crop. Never washed my bud but will definitely do it this year. Also I always took my friends advice to wait for a snappy stem during dry time - but always ended up with bud that was way too dry. Will be ending my dry a little earlier this year. I appreciate all the great info here for novice growers!
Every other channel I check out now I use you as a comparison and I still can’t find another that compares to you. You’re all business and these other channels has all that stoner talk that I don’t need. Keep up the good work dude, you’re amazing!
On the subject of flushing. I saw a report a while back where a group of 4 growers did a test of flushing results on taste and flavor. Each did, if I remember correctly, a week long, 3 day long and no flush on a couple of different strains. Then they did a blind taste test. The 'no flush' rated as good or in some cases better than the flushed plants. On a personal note I have always found that my plants are at their very sweetest and strongest smelling towards the end(2/3 to 3/4 ) of the bud cycle when bloom food is at it's maximum. Thus I quit flushing for potassium and phosphorous completely. I still stop nitrogen about a month before harvest but it's just a stop, not a flush. As for results- people consistently praise the flavor and aroma. Note that this is on a strictly organic outdoor grow- I can't speak to results with chemicals and indoors.
Indoors your plant aren't in nature they contained in the unit (planter ) it's not buffered by the Earth outside grows how can you flush you just give it water for a couple of days indoors flushing is a lot of water to overtime feeding it just water to rinse out the salt in the medium because I see a difference
@@trueblu8 manure will burn your plant right that's organic so I don't know organic needs to be flushed out too you trying to get the plant to use up its Reserves the plant can only take up nitrogen phosphorus and potassium synthetic or organic it breaks it down in the soil the organic matter to become nitrogen and potassium and phosphorus you want to get nitrogen and phosphorus and potassium out of your plant in Organics you got eggshells manure worm castings in your medium
I normally watch these types of video's on the tv so I'm unable to comment but I just had to jump on the ole laptop and tell give you guys some praise for a job well done. Very thorough most excellent video. I'm still learning with 5 or 6 harvests behind me but I know a great video when I see one. I personally use the Grove bags and really like them. Now I have dried to far and brought them back a bit with lemon wedges for a few days while monitoring the humidity with the aid of a hygrometer. Once you go too far no bueno. Again huge kudos to Pigeon and Chris, you guys are a great team.
Perfect timing literally cut my first grow down a week ago.been keeping it in a mostly dark room at 60°-70° at 50%-60% for a week now.put it in jars today and gonna do the sweat and burp for the next few weeks.
What I never understood and just found out recently with my harvest is how everyone always taught to wait until the stems snap then it’s dry.. then they said to jar it up with a humidistat and that you want rh in the jar to be 60%… well what I found out is just like pigeons said if you wait for the snap it’s way too dry and crispy so when you put those crispy buds in the jar your humidity is going to be in the 30s somewhere most likely and too dried out
Years ago when I first got into it I found a forum that talked about bud washing. I did it on the first ever plant I pulled. The ash was so white and fluffy, so clean.
As far as washing buds go, it is an old school technique used in Jamaica and other major producing areas for decades. But if you're that worried about trichome loss, just chill the dirty water down and run it through bubble bags/ice water hash bags. Any trichomes that did get knocked off will get filtered out in the bags and you'll be able to separate them but make sure to keep them cold like ice cold

Best video I've seen so far!! Just harvested my first grow today. Autoflower done outdoors. 1430g, wet obviously, sans stems. Hopefully the dry and cure goes well!!
How many Autos garnered you that many grams? I accidently did something wrong this grow and didn't start mine in solo cups. I started them in biodegradable jiffy pots. The roots were growing through the Jiffy Pots when I put the whole jiffy pot in the final pot. The roots didn't actually make it's way through the jiffy pots probably since Autos are such a fast growing plant. I was wondering why my autos were so much smaller than the year prior. I pulled them out of the pot when harvesting to see why and the roots had a problem growing out of the biodegradable pots. I actually ripped alot of the pots in half before planting but it wasn't enough. I used 7.5 gallon pots and the roots maybe made it half way down the medium and I was pissed. I grew photos at the same time and because they take awhile to grow, the roots have broken through the jiffy pots and now these plants are massive. I learned to never use biodegradable pots to start Auto seedlings because they are fast growers. I should have gotten triple the bud off those Autos if I transplanted the seedlings from solo cups.

I followed pigeons advice to the letter for drying. It was winter, which helps, but it turned out perfect. This was our first successful grow, and it was smoother than anything I ever had

I bud wash as well. I would like to add what I find helpful. I add a bubble stone to the first wash and first rinse bucket. Keeps the baking soda/lemon mix in suspension and I assume, a more gentle "agitation". I would suggest everyone bud wash once and refer to the bottom of the buckets to determine whether it was/is beneficial. Yall have a good one
Makes perfect sense what pigeons said about taking little bits of info from one person and some from another.. test them all out and see which works for you. I have about 5 years of nonstop growing (nothing major.. just 1-2 plants at a time) and I've tried methods that 95% of the internet swear by but their methods do not work for me.. I either have to go with what the 5% say or even an unusual mix of 2 methods. It took me about 3 years to realize I dont need a fan inside of my grow tent while drying.. BUT I do keep the exhaust fan running. If I do add any other fans, itll be dry in 3 days. I SOMETIMES run a small fan on low inside for maybe the first 24 hours.. about when you start to see the leaves are starting to get a little cruchy and then Ill cut the fan off and just use the exhaust fan on. Since I began to try this method, I can typically get a dry to last about 7 days. But here my local environment fluctuates alot. I'm currently +70% RH in late flower. She isnt very fat tho (fast flowering strain from Aura Genetix) but since the buds are kinda small still, it may not cause any issues. Plus I do make sure I have planty of air circulation in there (exhaust, intake, 1 clip on fans and a small tower fan in the bottom corner in a 2x2).. anyways.. im just finger fuggin my keyboard here all stoned and whatnot. This was a great episode. I cant thank you 2 enough. Lots of very useful info in this one. Coming close to harvest now, so I like to go around the net and refresh my memory. Took me a good 3 years to realize my drying and curing were not working out. Plants would smell glorious before harvesting and by the time they were 2 weeks i to curing, terps are long gone. Still trying to get this perfected actually. Little hard battling huge temp and RH fluctuations that AC and de/humidifiers can only attempt to correct so much. Anyways.. hope this stoned rant helps someone ✌️💚💨
I did some trimming up in Nor Cal back in 2013-14 and trimmed a farm for about 12 hours a day for 3 days - half hand trim/ half machine trim. I prefer complete hand trimming mainly for aesthetic reasons, but it’s all about the quantity your working with, and how much you really care about the buds. At this point I just rip the flowers apart 😂
So funny. Watching your videos as it's getting time to harvest (first timer) so I'm taking knowledge from everywhere. At my buddies house tonight and he just got a trimming bowl and said it cleaned almost as well but cut the time by 80%. So, obviously he is loving it.

So, I just finished washing and hanging my blue spring cookies, which is my first harvest ever. I recently heard about bud washing and instantly thought, "No way!" Then I researched. I harvested at 70/30% trichomes. Terrified, I was ruining my bud. I pressed on. The buds look amazing, and the smell is banging. I looked through Jewelers loop, and my trichomes are frosty amber and stacked full!! I only found one winged bug and one bastard Calipur. There was a funk floating in that wash bucket. The second bucket turned yellowish with a few things floating around. It's pretty much clean in the 3rd rinse. Each for 30 seconds gently in a circular motion back and forth. But trichomes are definitely fine! The buds are glowing like they had been coated in dirt. Highly recommend washing your bud.
The funk and yellow water was all the terpenes you washed out of the buds. The terps are water soluble, unless you're harvesting some really dirty outdoor plants, washing the buds is just a bad idea.

I've been washing my flowers outdoor and even my indoor. I've been doing it for a decade. It has made a huge difference in smoothness immediately in the smoke. Instead of needing a month for a smooth smoke to appear you will have smooth smoke after the dry never mind a cure. Ppl are smoking so much hair pet dander , dirt, bugs ,bug waste etc etc
I have a 2x4 dry tent I set my humidifier at 55 to 65% at 65degrees , it wouldn't matter if my buds(trimmed after 2 weeks) stayed in there for a month or two they still come out cured like I put them in a jar(same as putting them in the jar for a whole month as long as I maintain that environment) seems to be more about the strain terps and pheno more thing anything else ( you can also take a clean wet face cloth with very little water in it/ring it out like seed-germination in paper towel method,, hang it in the corner of your dry tent, this will help you gauge how quick your tent is drying out etc etc, dip/wet the rang in peroxide and lemon water combo when you do this to keep it from molding if you're in those P.M/Moldy areas).. I have four 2x4 tents both are connected to 2, 800cfm 8inch speed controller fans each 2 tents has its own 8inch fan connected via air dryer Y Jacks. on low the 8inch is sucking two tents almost till they collapse😂,,, I had to build a flat table top wood frame for a trellis to hold/support the tents holding them open but the air movement is Super-Major😁, I had to control the humidity by putting the humidifiers in the room verse the tent ( controlling the R.H in the room makes it easier because there's so much air movement in the Tentz ) ,, ✌❤ Everybody, from the 702 Vegas......
Great podcast and info! One thing I think is often over looked is the darkness aspect. Seems simple but makes a world of difference, the dry room HAS to be dark!
@@Its_Wes the published research on this topic disagrees with you. Exposure to full sunlight only showed a degradation of 13% THC after 1 year of exposure. 2 weeks will not make any measurable difference.

It’s incredible how different growmies grow in different climates and regions. Watching your videos I have to remind myself I luckily live in California so my climate will be so much different than each of yours. But despite the climate differences you all always provide so much good information. Thanks for emphasizing the super importance of the minimum cure time! 4 weeks + Also, a good alternative to mason jars is to use a good glass fishtank with a lid that seals (there's a few add on's you can do to the lid to automate the process, but I'll save that for another time 😉)
Years ago (90's?) Jorge Cervantes, of High Times fame, was an advocate of bud washing and even with the addition of peroxide at 1C / 5 gal when washing buds that showed any signs of bud rot with a 3 minute soak. BTW - The word Pigeons420 was looking for to replace "soap" is surfactant. A wetting agent.

Bowl trimmers work great if you have arthritis like myself. It also is great for collecting the trim/shake/smalls for pressing or bho extracts. As a seed maker it comes in handy tossing the buds to help release the seeds. Multi uses and benefits and I don't notice loss in quality since it all gets used or smoked 😎
I went to Ace a year ago and bought a wood moisture meter and now use that to stick in my buds while they’re drying to read the moisture inside the buds it takes all the guests workout I mean if you want to be a dinosaur and snap branches and take gases that’s fine but if you want to make it easier just go out and buy moisture meter and check your buds that way once it hits 10 or 11% you’re ready for the cure
I have gotten over the manicuring of my plants. I do most of my trimming prior to harvest, but I leave a lot of small sugar leaves just because I want it to be somewhat holistic medicine
I use a dehumidifier, Humidifier, Portable Ac Unit all in my 4x4. each device kicked on and off whenever necessary to keep the inside of 60° f 60% humidity for 14 to 21 days

37:18 at first when he said “electric trimmer” all I could think was the manscape lawnmower.....lol then I thought about it being called the lawn mower.....which made me realize that damn thing would actually work. 😆 It would actually make short work of taking those leaves right off and saving your hand muscles.
@@mikeburnett1590Im a year late, but its effectively a grinder like set up that trims buds. You put the buds in and spin it (oversimplified) and it trims the outer leaves on buds, saving loads of time 😊

I wanted to not like pigeons for some reason but after watching a few videos, I really like the dude. He's really really good at this. He comes off very professional but also seems like someone you'd hang out with and do stupid sh*t. Like he could walk straight into a business meeting after blowing up old pumpkins in his backyard and you wouldn't even know.
For my most recent dry, I just put a large bud into a sealed jar with a humidity gauge in order to see how dry it really was. This guys point about it being too late when the stems snap is exactly correct, especially in low humidity climates.
I have 25 years in industry and for 25 years I avoided trimbowls. I have the 19 inch ac infinity trimbowl and it better then by hand as in same quality cuts but fraction of time. Thrichs are solid and still there and the insides have not been damaged at all. Will be getting testing done on hand trim vs wet trim with bowl. But I tell ya right now I'm smoking fire and it's better then anything I have gotten from the store... 25 yrs Exp. I'll never hand trim again

Can you elaborate on your system? How does it work? When rh gets to 65% or so does it auto burp? What kind of container if you threw away jars? An auto burp system sounds scary lol ✌
the turkey bags do all the trimming for me... when burping the bag just roll them back and forth gripping the edge of the bag... when time to jar pour bag over dry sift screens to collect trics, then transfer to jars. hang plants whole. When water/fan leaves snap off and lower buds snap (but don't breakoff) cut each bud over sifting sceens. Transfer the cut buds into TURKEY BAGS. You want to dry and cure in the turkey bags before curing in jars.
Bud washing for me makes a longer dry time . I can say my humidity and temps probably weren't in the optimal conditions. Took about 7 days when it's normally 3-4. Only washed a couple grows. Growing for 10 years... Great content...
@@comfortablynumb9342 Initially, you would wash the Buds as soon as you cut the plant. I've never cut a plant that had dry buds.. Now if you're asking about anything after the initial chop, I definitely wouldn't suggest dunking the bud to get moisture. But like my guy says, I'm not super scientific, I just know what works for me.
@@93836 I've definitely tried the "wait til it snaps" technique. Bud super dry, lower potency, lower quality. Personally I dry it out a little before the chop. I may lose a little flavor. I'm still learning, that's why I appreciate this channel...
I harvested 324 inch original Russian 442 this morning I drove his plants in my greenhouse in my worm casting Box.These Little girls really surprise me. But after harvest in examining the plants you could see microscopic dirt and dust so I filled my 5gal box and gave them a bath. And it was a good thing I did I couldn’t believe all of their microscopic dirt moth that came off of them. I did that three times, but I did not use your first message because I didn’t see it till now. I have one more that I am leaving a few days more. But when I wash it I will try your First washing for sure sure. Thanks for the info. I have been growing Sense 1968 and you can always learn something of value through others. I guess what I’m saying is no matter how long you been growing you can always wear a new trick.
I’m still remember when pigeons420 did his videos reverse Wilson style (home improvement). Love that dude. And Chris is fucking cool, I trust everything he says.
Wet trimming leaches chlorophyll and removes that much needed moisture for a proper slow dry. It’s not just about the water 💦 but the plant needs to break down the chlorophyll’s properly. Always hang full first and work down to branches as dries. Use small amounts of stress through last 6 weeks of life and it will act as the harvest moon 🌙 and cause trichs to swell and push plants.
You can cut up the whole plant into branches and if you control the vpd, it’ll dry the same as the whole plant. Hear me out before commenting lol I think the initial phase at least of the cure is less about “curing” and more about getting the chlorophyll out. It’s just a matter of how many terps you lose. I don’t think it’s a matter of hanging whole plant or not. It’s a matter of controlling vpd in your dry space. Water evaporates at room temp way faster if it’s less humid than more humid. It’s about temp AND humidity, hence VPD. Hemp dryers found that 0.8-1.0 is the magic zone, and between 12-14 days iirc. You’ll lose terps if you have any condition where the vpd is high, regardless of whether you’re at high temp or low temp alone. If you keep your flower in a fridge unsealed, it’s low temp, but you’ll lose all your terps since the humidity is so low. Again, vpd. not temps or humidity alone.

LOL. I follow Mr Canuck because he shows the whole process instead of just talking about it. I have been following his advice and am almost about to bring in my first harvest ever. All I can say is the kolas are so frosty right now that I'm having a hard time not harvesting too early. I'm still waiting for the trichomes to cloud up.

On the subject of trimming. Sometimes I think it would be good if for a year we could go back to black market sales and all dispensary close for a year. Back in the day when you bought an ounce and weight of 7 grams was all seed with a couple of logs with no bud on it. Plus a gram or to of “shake” and we were god damed happy to get it. Maybe I am finally just to old. Iv been growing my own now for 22 years. Got my first med card in 2000. We truly live in a different day today. Oh and I’m 60 years old. 100% disabled vet. Cannabis is truly a gift of health for me. Thanks for the interview guys. Keep at it.

@@historyhunter5215 I thought that’s what you meant but I wasn’t sure. I personally like to smoke the best I can get for my money, but I feel you, i got a friend that’s mid 50’s. He just wanted bud like back in the mid 90’s. Some lower grade pot that he can sit back and enjoy the smoke, and not get blasted so quick. It was actually a mission to find what he was looking for. But overall there hasn’t been an issue here since it was legalized, Southern California.
My personal harvesting method (for tent growing):
- No washing needed, as stated in the video.
- Clip each branch individually, removing the large fan leaves only. Hang them.
- Small fan at the bottom of drying room for the first day or so, keep off after that. ( I do this in my VERY humid climate to reduce the chances of mold. If you're in a dry climate ignore this and you may even need a humidifier and out take fans.)
- Harvest when the stems are just dried out enough to snap but NOT break. You will know what I'm talking about when you feel it. If it snaps , you're way too dry. (Don't worry they can be saved but there's plenty of RUclips videos on that.)
- Finish trim, removing any remaining fan leafs and trimming the sugarleaf and bud to the traditional nugget look. Save your sugarleaf (the thc coated leaves) and make hash!
- Stash in jars for 3 weeks minimum. "Burping" (opening the jar) for 10-15 minutes. 2 times a day. For the first week. Also dumping it out and refilling the buds, replacing the bottom ones with the top. Again, for the first week only. Second week, burping once a day for 10 minutes. Shaking the jar. After the second week you only open once a week, really only to check on it. Give it a shake or two of course. After a month it's ready to smoke (in my opinion). But the magic happens between 2-3 months from my experience. Trust me, it's worth the wait. But as the video stated keep an eye on humidity and take appropriate actions IF necessary.

@@ClearWater7.62 I don't think I said anything about a bag...I never use those as they dry out the bud too fast and unevenly. I just hang in a separate small grow tent, like a 2x2x4 I think it is. As for your second question, yes. Trim the bud to your liking now and jar it. Follow the burping routine and in a month...quality smoke.
Also, make sure to safe your trim (only the small leaves with thc on them, toss the big fan leaves) and make hash with it. Iso hash, bubble hash etc. There are plenty of methods on RUclips. Hope this helps.

Bud washing ABSOLUTELY DOES! AFFECT THC CONTENT, TASTE, AND SMOKE PROFILE OF YOUR FLOWER!
If your submerging your flower in a bucket filled with acid and then a neutralizer and then you sunk it again to get that off!
I did it twice and had to give the flower to my chickens because the flower was very displeasing

Sounds like you did it wrong. Dilute your solution and be gentle. I do it if I battle pests, water only if not. I rinse off road dust with water. Don't want to smoke dirt.
With my setup in my basement, I have mylar duct taped to the drop ceiling rails hanging loosly from the ceiling to the floor for my "tent" walls. that way I can make my grow room as big as I want and there is a heat run in the ceiling in the middle of it to provide ventilation and heat for my winter grows. Works perfectly.

Plus, those fruity and floral terpenes are locked up in a sticky resin. As long as you carry out the process mindfully and gently, you'll preserve these key molecules. If you are being an imbecile obviously your product can be ruined, just like if you dry and cure incorrectly.

This Podcast was great! Even though I followed Pigeons420 and hear him talk about this before and I pretty much follow his tip, I can listen to this one over and over again. You forget things so when I am ready to harvest in Oct I will come again to remind me what is best to do.

I made a curing cabinet with heat, humidifier, dehumidifier and exhaust fan. Perfect dry every time. It has a light too because I use it for an overflow cabinet for plants.

Just about to harvest my 3rd outdoor crop. Never washed my bud but will definitely do it this year. Also I always took my friends advice to wait for a snappy stem during dry time - but always ended up with bud that was way too dry. Will be ending my dry a little earlier this year. I appreciate all the great info here for novice growers!
I cut my plants at 11-13 weeks hang without trimming and get perfect dry/cure
Every other channel I check out now I use you as a comparison and I still can’t find another that compares to you. You’re all business and these other channels has all that stoner talk that I don’t need. Keep up the good work dude, you’re amazing!
On the subject of flushing. I saw a report a while back where a group of 4 growers did a test of flushing results on taste and flavor. Each did, if I remember correctly, a week long, 3 day long and no flush on a couple of different strains. Then they did a blind taste test. The 'no flush' rated as good or in some cases better than the flushed plants. On a personal note I have always found that my plants are at their very sweetest and strongest smelling towards the end(2/3 to 3/4 ) of the bud cycle when bloom food is at it's maximum. Thus I quit flushing for potassium and phosphorous completely. I still stop nitrogen about a month before harvest but it's just a stop, not a flush. As for results- people consistently praise the flavor and aroma. Note that this is on a strictly organic outdoor grow- I can't speak to results with chemicals and indoors.
Same thing for me, no flushing, only stop nutrients and get better and richest flavor and taste in outdoor, even in indoor grow
I heard you don't have to flush when using organic nutrients. That's only for people that use chemical nutrients and salts.
Indoors your plant aren't in nature they contained in the unit (planter ) it's not buffered by the Earth outside grows how can you flush you just give it water for a couple of days indoors flushing is a lot of water to overtime feeding it just water to rinse out the salt in the medium because I see a difference

I normally watch these types of video's on the tv so I'm unable to comment but I just had to jump on the ole laptop and tell give you guys some praise for a job well done. Very thorough most excellent video. I'm still learning with 5 or 6 harvests behind me but I know a great video when I see one. I personally use the Grove bags and really like them. Now I have dried to far and brought them back a bit with lemon wedges for a few days while monitoring the humidity with the aid of a hygrometer. Once you go too far no bueno. Again huge kudos to Pigeon and Chris, you guys are a great team.

Perfect timing literally cut my first grow down a week ago.been keeping it in a mostly dark room at 60°-70° at 50%-60% for a week now.put it in jars today and gonna do the sweat and burp for the next few weeks.

What I never understood and just found out recently with my harvest is how everyone always taught to wait until the stems snap then it’s dry.. then they said to jar it up with a humidistat and that you want rh in the jar to be 60%… well what I found out is just like pigeons said if you wait for the snap it’s way too dry and crispy so when you put those crispy buds in the jar your humidity is going to be in the 30s somewhere most likely and too dried out

Years ago when I first got into it I found a forum that talked about bud washing. I did it on the first ever plant I pulled. The ash was so white and fluffy, so clean.

As far as washing buds go, it is an old school technique used in Jamaica and other major producing areas for decades. But if you're that worried about trichome loss, just chill the dirty water down and run it through bubble bags/ice water hash bags. Any trichomes that did get knocked off will get filtered out in the bags and you'll be able to separate them but make sure to keep them cold like ice cold

How many Autos garnered you that many grams? I accidently did something wrong this grow and didn't start mine in solo cups. I started them in biodegradable jiffy pots. The roots were growing through the Jiffy Pots when I put the whole jiffy pot in the final pot. The roots didn't actually make it's way through the jiffy pots probably since Autos are such a fast growing plant. I was wondering why my autos were so much smaller than the year prior. I pulled them out of the pot when harvesting to see why and the roots had a problem growing out of the biodegradable pots. I actually ripped alot of the pots in half before planting but it wasn't enough. I used 7.5 gallon pots and the roots maybe made it half way down the medium and I was pissed. I grew photos at the same time and because they take awhile to grow, the roots have broken through the jiffy pots and now these plants are massive. I learned to never use biodegradable pots to start Auto seedlings because they are fast growers. I should have gotten triple the bud off those Autos if I transplanted the seedlings from solo cups.

I followed pigeons advice to the letter for drying. It was winter, which helps, but it turned out perfect. This was our first successful grow, and it was smoother than anything I ever had

I bud wash as well. I would like to add what I find helpful. I add a bubble stone to the first wash and first rinse bucket. Keeps the baking soda/lemon mix in suspension and I assume, a more gentle "agitation". I would suggest everyone bud wash once and refer to the bottom of the buckets to determine whether it was/is beneficial. Yall have a good one

Makes perfect sense what pigeons said about taking little bits of info from one person and some from another.. test them all out and see which works for you. I have about 5 years of nonstop growing (nothing major.. just 1-2 plants at a time) and I've tried methods that 95% of the internet swear by but their methods do not work for me.. I either have to go with what the 5% say or even an unusual mix of 2 methods. It took me about 3 years to realize I dont need a fan inside of my grow tent while drying.. BUT I do keep the exhaust fan running. If I do add any other fans, itll be dry in 3 days. I SOMETIMES run a small fan on low inside for maybe the first 24 hours.. about when you start to see the leaves are starting to get a little cruchy and then Ill cut the fan off and just use the exhaust fan on. Since I began to try this method, I can typically get a dry to last about 7 days. But here my local environment fluctuates alot. I'm currently +70% RH in late flower. She isnt very fat tho (fast flowering strain from Aura Genetix) but since the buds are kinda small still, it may not cause any issues. Plus I do make sure I have planty of air circulation in there (exhaust, intake, 1 clip on fans and a small tower fan in the bottom corner in a 2x2).. anyways.. im just finger fuggin my keyboard here all stoned and whatnot. This was a great episode. I cant thank you 2 enough. Lots of very useful info in this one. Coming close to harvest now, so I like to go around the net and refresh my memory. Took me a good 3 years to realize my drying and curing were not working out. Plants would smell glorious before harvesting and by the time they were 2 weeks i to curing, terps are long gone. Still trying to get this perfected actually. Little hard battling huge temp and RH fluctuations that AC and de/humidifiers can only attempt to correct so much. Anyways.. hope this stoned rant helps someone ✌️💚💨
I did some trimming up in Nor Cal back in 2013-14 and trimmed a farm for about 12 hours a day for 3 days - half hand trim/ half machine trim.
I prefer complete hand trimming mainly for aesthetic reasons, but it’s all about the quantity your working with, and how much you really care about the buds. At this point I just rip the flowers apart 😂
So funny. Watching your videos as it's getting time to harvest (first timer) so I'm taking knowledge from everywhere. At my buddies house tonight and he just got a trimming bowl and said it cleaned almost as well but cut the time by 80%. So, obviously he is loving it.
You know what's a good helper for trimming, old school horror movies, they help keep things fun.

So, I just finished washing and hanging my blue spring cookies, which is my first harvest ever. I recently heard about bud washing and instantly thought, "No way!" Then I researched. I harvested at 70/30% trichomes. Terrified, I was ruining my bud. I pressed on. The buds look amazing, and the smell is banging. I looked through Jewelers loop, and my trichomes are frosty amber and stacked full!! I only found one winged bug and one bastard Calipur. There was a funk floating in that wash bucket. The second bucket turned yellowish with a few things floating around. It's pretty much clean in the 3rd rinse. Each for 30 seconds gently in a circular motion back and forth. But trichomes are definitely fine! The buds are glowing like they had been coated in dirt. Highly recommend washing your bud.
The funk and yellow water was all the terpenes you washed out of the buds. The terps are water soluble, unless you're harvesting some really dirty outdoor plants, washing the buds is just a bad idea.

I've been washing my flowers outdoor and even my indoor. I've been doing it for a decade. It has made a huge difference in smoothness immediately in the smoke. Instead of needing a month for a smooth smoke to appear you will have smooth smoke after the dry never mind a cure. Ppl are smoking so much hair pet dander , dirt, bugs ,bug waste etc etc
Do you grow in organic living soil though or are you using coco choir and synthetic bottled nutes??

I have a 2x4 dry tent I set my humidifier at 55 to 65% at 65degrees , it wouldn't matter if my buds(trimmed after 2 weeks) stayed in there for a month or two they still come out cured like I put them in a jar(same as putting them in the jar for a whole month as long as I maintain that environment) seems to be more about the strain terps and pheno more thing anything else ( you can also take a clean wet face cloth with very little water in it/ring it out like seed-germination in paper towel method,, hang it in the corner of your dry tent, this will help you gauge how quick your tent is drying out etc etc, dip/wet the rang in peroxide and lemon water combo when you do this to keep it from molding if you're in those P.M/Moldy areas)..
I have four 2x4 tents both are connected to 2, 800cfm 8inch speed controller fans each 2 tents has its own 8inch fan connected via air dryer Y Jacks. on low the 8inch is sucking two tents almost till they collapse😂,,, I had to build a flat table top wood frame for a trellis to hold/support the tents holding them open but the air movement is Super-Major😁, I had to control the humidity by putting the humidifiers in the room verse the tent ( controlling the R.H in the room makes it easier because there's so much air movement in the Tentz ) ,,

Great podcast and info! One thing I think is often over looked is the darkness aspect. Seems simple but makes a world of difference, the dry room HAS to be dark!
@@Its_Wes the published research on this topic disagrees with you. Exposure to full sunlight only showed a degradation of 13% THC after 1 year of exposure. 2 weeks will not make any measurable difference.
I used to hate on the bowl trimmers until I tried one...I turned 2 days into 2 hours with minimal trichome damage. I'm sold!

Bowl trimers work pretty good, infact I sill have mine but I up graded to the twister 6....It does 4 lb an hour so makes my life easier bud come out great!

It’s incredible how different growmies grow in different climates and regions. Watching your videos I have to remind myself I luckily live in California so my climate will be so much different than each of yours. But despite the climate differences you all always provide so much good information. I’m a week out before my first flip to flower on my first grow and you all definitely helped me get to this point 🙏🏽

Also, a good alternative to mason jars is to use a good glass fishtank with a lid that seals (there's a few add on's you can do to the lid to automate the process, but I'll save that for another time 😉)

Years ago (90's?) Jorge Cervantes, of High Times fame, was an advocate of bud washing and even with the addition of peroxide at 1C / 5 gal when washing buds that showed any signs of bud rot with a 3 minute soak.
BTW - The word Pigeons420 was looking for to replace "soap" is surfactant. A wetting agent.

Bowl trimmers work great if you have arthritis like myself. It also is great for collecting the trim/shake/smalls for pressing or bho extracts. As a seed maker it comes in handy tossing the buds to help release the seeds. Multi uses and benefits and I don't notice loss in quality since it all gets used or smoked 😎

I went to Ace a year ago and bought a wood moisture meter and now use that to stick in my buds while they’re drying to read the moisture inside the buds it takes all the guests workout I mean if you want to be a dinosaur and snap branches and take gases that’s fine but if you want to make it easier just go out and buy moisture meter and check your buds that way once it hits 10 or 11% you’re ready for the cure

I have gotten over the manicuring of my plants. I do most of my trimming prior to harvest, but I leave a lot of small sugar leaves just because I want it to be somewhat holistic medicine

I use a dehumidifier, Humidifier, Portable Ac Unit all in my 4x4. each device kicked on and off whenever necessary to keep the inside of 60° f 60% humidity for 14 to 21 days

@@mikeburnett1590Im a year late, but its effectively a grinder like set up that trims buds. You put the buds in and spin it (oversimplified) and it trims the outer leaves on buds, saving loads of time 😊

I wanted to not like pigeons for some reason but after watching a few videos, I really like the dude. He's really really good at this. He comes off very professional but also seems like someone you'd hang out with and do stupid sh*t. Like he could walk straight into a business meeting after blowing up old pumpkins in his backyard and you wouldn't even know.

For my most recent dry, I just put a large bud into a sealed jar with a humidity gauge in order to see how dry it really was. This guys point about it being too late when the stems snap is exactly correct, especially in low humidity climates.

I have 25 years in industry and for 25 years I avoided trimbowls. I have the 19 inch ac infinity trimbowl and it better then by hand as in same quality cuts but fraction of time. Thrichs are solid and still there and the insides have not been damaged at all. Will be getting testing done on hand trim vs wet trim with bowl. But I tell ya right now I'm smoking fire and it's better then anything I have gotten from the store... 25 yrs Exp. I'll never hand trim again

the turkey bags do all the trimming for me... when burping the bag just roll them back and forth gripping the edge of the bag... when time to jar pour bag over dry sift screens to collect trics, then transfer to jars. hang plants whole. When water/fan leaves snap off and lower buds snap (but don't breakoff) cut each bud over sifting sceens. Transfer the cut buds into TURKEY BAGS. You want to dry and cure in the turkey bags before curing in jars.
Bud washing for me makes a longer dry time . I can say my humidity and temps probably weren't in the optimal conditions. Took about 7 days when it's normally 3-4. Only washed a couple grows. Growing for 10 years... Great content...
So if your buds get too dry could you dunk them to get moisture back? Sounds like a bad idea.
@@comfortablynumb9342 Initially, you would wash the Buds as soon as you cut the plant. I've never cut a plant that had dry buds.. Now if you're asking about anything after the initial chop, I definitely wouldn't suggest dunking the bud to get moisture. But like my guy says, I'm not super scientific, I just know what works for me.
3 to 4 days is way too quick for good quality drying, you must know that bud
@@93836 I've definitely tried the "wait til it snaps" technique. Bud super dry, lower potency, lower quality. Personally I dry it out a little before the chop. I may lose a little flavor. I'm still learning, that's why I appreciate this channel...

I harvested 324 inch original Russian 442 this morning I drove his plants in my greenhouse in my worm casting Box.These Little girls really surprise me. But after harvest in examining the plants you could see microscopic dirt and dust so I filled my 5gal box and gave them a bath. And it was a good thing I did I couldn’t believe all of their microscopic dirt moth that came off of them. I did that three times, but I did not use your first message because I didn’t see it till now. I have one more that I am leaving a few days more. But when I wash it I will try your First washing for sure sure. Thanks for the info. I have been growing Sense 1968 and you can always learn something of value through others. I guess what I’m saying is no matter how long you been growing you can always wear a new trick.

Wet trimming leaches chlorophyll and removes that much needed moisture for a proper slow dry. It’s not just about the water 💦 but the plant needs to break down the chlorophyll’s properly. Always hang full first and work down to branches as dries. Use small amounts of stress through last 6 weeks of life and it will act as the harvest moon 🌙 and cause trichs to swell and push plants.
How do you recommend to stress?

You can cut up the whole plant into branches and if you control the vpd, it’ll dry the same as the whole plant. Hear me out before commenting lol
I think the initial phase at least of the cure is less about “curing” and more about getting the chlorophyll out. It’s just a matter of how many terps you lose.
I don’t think it’s a matter of hanging whole plant or not. It’s a matter of controlling vpd in your dry space. Water evaporates at room temp way faster if it’s less humid than more humid. It’s about temp AND humidity, hence VPD.
Hemp dryers found that 0.8-1.0 is the magic zone, and between 12-14 days iirc.
You’ll lose terps if you have any condition where the vpd is high, regardless of whether you’re at high temp or low temp alone. If you keep your flower in a fridge unsealed, it’s low temp, but you’ll lose all your terps since the humidity is so low. Again, vpd. not temps or humidity alone.

LOL. I follow Mr Canuck because he shows the whole process instead of just talking about it. I have been following his advice and am almost about to bring in my first harvest ever. All I can say is the kolas are so frosty right now that I'm having a hard time not harvesting too early. I'm still waiting for the trichomes to cloud up.

2011 I had 24 plants in my outdoor grow. I invited 4 or 5 friends over and had a two-day trimming party.

Seems to me that i made bubbles out of the trim that year. Dunno was a long time ago.
