    I love you and Kyle so much, Tim. You two are spectaculary awesome human beings who operate as framers. Thank you for all of your content and contributions. Thank you for your articulations and mentoring. Truyly grateful gratitude being sent your way from the Chicagoland area. Peace.

    So no silicone at the bottom of the window and no flashing over the flange after it’s been pinned, I’m assuming to let water shed in the very rare instance it does get behind all that tape?
    Seems like a bulletproof system! What a relief it would be to be a homeowner and seeing your crew building their house. Just knowing everything is done the right way the first time must bring a lot of peace of mind.

    • @AwesomeFramers

      The thinking is that with the sill taped, that leaving the bottom flange untaped, will allow water to drain out. Personally I don't think that actually happens.

    Do you still z flash the top with the ZIP tape behind it or is there no need nowadays? Been over a decade since I helped install a window so this is "new" again to me.

    And shouldn't there be a space at the bottom up off the framing to put in insulation?

    • @AwesomeFramers
      @AwesomeFramers  2 года назад +2

      I have a personal opinion on that, but its just that, personal. I don't see any value in that 1/4" gap for insulation, to me its more important to air seal.

    Have you use air shim to adjust the window instead of a pry bar. Do you have problem with the extra plastic on the corners of the vinyl window when you try either level or plumb the window. I use vinyl horizontal sliding window and have to deal with vinyl bowing in either the top or sides. Great job on the house framing. I just watch on you tube Shoyan Japanese Carpenter there house is a post and beam with all the joints are mortise and tenon from the factory.

    Not directly related to the topic but why don't you use galvanized nails on the sheeting (and the walls built before the roof is on).
    I can understand that it's not required but I don't see the reason for not just using that on everything in the walls.

    It’s amazing how many new builds I drive by with house wrap incorrectly cut around window openings or windows not flashed correctly. It’s not rocket science, and in the PNW, you can’t cut corners when it comes to flashing anything.

  • @johnwhite2576
    @johnwhite2576 Год назад

    Love the grk screws and your choice to only use small amounts zip stretch….BUT No flashing of the jambs or head ?? Caulking the bottom flange And locking any water in? All windows eventually leak….11 years is not adequate….the edge cuts on the zip osb have zero protection if any water enters. Same comment with no sloped sill.

    It must be nice hanging windows with nailing flange. We never do anything but pgt and American craftsman in block houses. The openings are never right and the American craftsman are block and tackle so you have to hold the string out of the way while you drill for tapcons without melting the string. PGT operate good but the American craftsman are crap. Im in hurricane county by the way. And instead of flashing tape we paint the opening with red guard
