    Sorry if this comes off as a nostalgia bait ahh video. I don't hate piglins, but I think Mojang should market Minecraft in a way that showcases it's wide selection of enemies new and old.

      @JuhoSprite Месяц назад +19

      I think it only seems like they are favoring piglins, I dont think they actually are. Its just that they made Minecraft legends and didn't expect an immediate fall off, so they wrote the story of the Minecraft movie to have some elements of legends aswell. From what I have seen now it seems like Minecraft movie is obviously not rly vanilla minecart, but rather its own universe taking from all the spin offs, thats why stuff like the double buckets exist. They will most likely go back to normal after the movie dropped and no longer focus on piglins.

    • @endcaps1917
      @endcaps1917 Месяц назад +10

      @JuhoSprite yeah and it's clear the movie is based more off legends than the actual game or even dungeons which makes sense considering the script was probably written around the time legends was being developed and it's clear they wanted legends to be a big thing with this being a sort of tie in but they didn't expect the fall off but they already had much off the effects finished and well had already hired Jack black and Jason mamoa so they just went with it anyway

      I'd argue it's a gameplay choice to introduce Bartering, but in reality and quite obvious, Piglins were always portrayed as the Greedy Brutes of the Nether, they steal gold related stuff and harvested all Netherite in the Nether(stated by one of the Devs before so it's canon). In general they are the "Orcs" in the Minecraft universe being Strength(and gold) over everything while Illagers are that evil imperialist, doesn't want to take over but control the world

    I don't know why the Piglins are just heartless villains in Minecraft Legends (and it looks like they're going to be the villains in the Minecraft movie too). In vanilla Minecraft they're _neutral,_ and only attack you when you aren't wearing gold. But for some reason they keep getting portrayed as pure evil.
    I though Pillagers were supposed to be the main bad guys. :/

    • @FireHeart_Productions
      @FireHeart_Productions Месяц назад +81

      @lasercraft32 in legends it takes place in the past when piglins were ruled by far more brutal leaders, who seemed obsessed with conquest, the piglin brutes are likely the few survivers from the War for the Overworld, hence why they are so ruthless and hostile, its possible that "a minecraft movie" in time just after the main game, or judging by the fact that steve is a character in dungeons, could in the time period between the arch illagers reign and the main game where some of the brutes came to positions of power and tried to seek revenge on the overworld

      They were always portrayed as these Evil Greedy Brutes in the first place. Stealing and looting things that they want (gold related), they were always portrayed as the "Orcs" of Minecraft. Heck one lore that is stated by the Devs a long time ago was The Piglins are the main reason why Netherite Ore are gone and only some scraps found in ancient debris remains in the nether, they harvested all of it before. Legends even made it clear on how and what they exactly are, Greedy Brutes that only value strength (and gold) over everything

    I've been wondering why Microsoft seems so hellbent on making the Piglins the main antagonists of the franchise recently. In actual Minecraft, they come off more as a suspicious and distrusting race that just want to be left alone with their gold, not some dark force that wants to overtake the Overworld. It's very odd, and doesn't make much sense. In my opinion, the Endermen or Illagers make much more sense as an antagonistic force.

    • @da_purple_lizard
      @da_purple_lizard Месяц назад +75

      Endermen are similar to piglins. They're also neutral unless you look them in the eyes and kind of just build cities in their dimension. Sure, they use shulkers as turrets, but it's just self-defense. They shuffle blocks around in the overworld, but you wouldn't call a duende that like moves vases in your house evil, just mischievous. The ender dragon also isn't a villain because she's an animal, likely a mother carrying or protecting her child, so it's natural that she's very territorial. Illagers are just bandits, it's all they do, they will attack you on sight and raid villages even if you have never met them. There's no faction in Minecraft that would fit better as a villain.

    • @jannafrancis7452
      @jannafrancis7452 Месяц назад +35

      Considering both how hostile the Nether can be, and more importantly how utterly ruined their buildings are- it could be a result of desperation, or the Piglins wanting to survive, regardless of the Zombie Infection they get in the Otherworld.

    • @ΓιώργοςΠαρασκευόπουλος-ω4τ
      @ΓιώργοςΠαρασκευόπουλος-ω4τ Месяц назад +16

      @@jannafrancis7452 lore wise Minecraft legends is a prequel of Minecraft and the ruined structures are the result of the piglins losing, thus they are no longer a threat. In Minecraft there isn't a particular antagonistic force unless you count in the wither and the ender dragon. Minecraft dungeons is the sequel of Minecraft in the far future (hence the new weapons)and the main is the arch villager. I believe that the problem with putting piglins as an antagonist is the fact that they shouldn't and can't be the main antagonist in a Minecraft movie, it's like saying that the main antagonistic force of all modern countries is the Mongol empire. What's worse is that they go with the "characters suddenly appear in a magical world!" In the most blatant way possible. Thus I believe that the Netflix show will likely be more successful

    They wanted an "evil army" and other mobs simply didn't qualify for the corporate criteria:
    - Creepers, zombies, skeletons, spiders, etc, aren't intelligent enough to make formations and have hierarchies, they are just mindless monsters;
    - Illagers could work but they would look too uncanny and also they are too human, and since this is a kid's movie we don't our heroes killing "normal" people (especially if they are doing it just because they have gray skin, that is "RACIST"!!!!!);
    - Endermen are too homogenous (there is no hierarchy), too scary and also black, wouldn't want kids getting the idea that killing black humanoid creatures is good right? Also I have a feeling they want to make a post-credit "we will go to the end in the sequel!" kind of thing so they are keeping them for that;
    Piglins fit because they are intelligent enough to have armies and hierarchies, they aren't too human so killing them is fine, and they don't spoil anything for the sequel.

      I'd argue the Pillagers are bigger threats, Piglins can only survive in the nether(Unless you count legends but it takes place in the past), Pillagers are the same but for the Overworld, While Piglins are more common in the Nether than the Pillagers in the Overworld, Pillagers have control over magic and knowledge the player doesn't have like totems of undying, vexes, potions and likely entered the ancient cities at one point. The only thing Piglins have over the pillagers are soul speed books that they can't even use, I guess the Brutes are stronger? That's about it.

      Lore wise if you ask me, both factions can take over the Overworld, but piglins have higher stakes and has the "will" to do so.
      Counting books, novels, and spin-offs, Piglins are far more destructive and really threatening with their sheer number and brute strength alone.
      Illagers on the other hand plays the Evil Faction that doesn't really take over the world but rather monopolize and control the world, they have their control over many things throughout the Dungeons storyline because of the Arch-Illager and racing through finding each shards of dominance.

    The piglins do fit more as an antagonist for a kids film since they're the most expressive.
    Another thing to note about the piglins is that they were most likely added to promote Minecraft Legends (still in development at that time), similarly to what they did with the illagers.
    Also I doubt Microsoft has anything to do with this, they don't really develop the game and its spin-offs and they also don't make the film.

    it's the weird fixation of hell-like = bad.
    From Hades being bad because he's God oft he underworld. Many gods of death are typically shown as villainous/evil too. Not simply antagonistic.
    The illagers look like villagers, and they like in plains and hills. That's fine.
    The Piglins, they live in a place with lava. Lava is in hell, they're evil.
    It's weird because looking at the minecraft legend enemies it's more fitting to have the villains be illagers. The piglins hunt Hoglins, and now they use them as weapons?
    The illagers already have the ravager. Also they have magic, axes, tiny ghosts, and already had diverse character models from minecraft dungeons. It's just a bad idea from the top down

    The reason piglins seem to be the main antagonists in “a minecraft movie” is because of Minecraft legends.
    Think about it, the script, models, animation, and plot were all likely developed while Minecraft legends was being released, and they probably intended for “a minecraft movie” to not only promote Minecraft, but also its spin off Minecraft legends.
    Even if Minecraft legends flopped hard, the people behind “a minecraft movie” would’ve been to far into the development in the movie to back out and remake the plot..

    Here's my take of mob factions being villains in Minecraft.
    I always found the Illagers to be more of a vilain faction. I took that they where peaceful villagers at first but devided from the other villagers as they became more aggrisive over time until they got the mindset of if the other villagers aren't with us ther against us along with anyone the villagers ally with.
    With the Illagers gone peace returned but they still needed protection at night from the hungery zombies so the iron golems where built.
    As for the Piglins i'd say they tried at one point to invade the overworld but where not sucssful as thir portals became ruined along with the Bastions where they once buit up their forces. Over time i think they have calmed down and are even willing to trade with outsiders just so long as they show they have the gold for it. The Piglin brute still remember the nether invsion and don't care for any trades.
    So that's how i see the different mobs to be like, I find the illagers more dangerous between the two.

  • @marknagorski1686

    Tbh, Illagers are more of a threat rather than Piglins. Plus changing the lore of Piglins being this evill ahh empire that is trying to takeover Overworld dosent make sense, cuz in vanilla they are just a race of pig-like humanoids that are so greedy for gold and try to live on in their ruined bastions or in crimson forests. Illagers literally explored ancient cities corrupted by a maliciously dangerous virus (you may find sometimes in acient cities strange buildings that look like towers made from dark and birch wood, common materials Illagers use to build stuff), have raided tons of villages and have setted up bases all over the Overworld. Hell, they even made a wool replica of End Portals room, like they've been there already. And Dungeons chose correctly who should be the primary antagonist faction.

I feel like it might have something to do with portraying players fighting them: illagers are clearly the same general species as the human equivalent villagers, so it seems more like killing people. Piglins might have a sort of "buffer" layer: they're all evil monsters, it's okay to put them as the main villain. Admittedly, there's a LOT of stuff showing Steve and Alex fighting illagers (including Minecraft Dungeons), so I might just be delusionally reaching for something here.

I first noticed the "piglin push" all the way back when steve was added to smash ultimate; the piglin is one of the few minecraft spirit battles, and while there are other iconic mobs I just feel like they could've picked something better. and this weird trend extends beyond piglins. you'll notice that the warden had been hyped up a lot as minecraft's big and scary monster while being a relatively small part of the game overall. and my biggest issue comes from stuff like new advancements and splash texts always revolving around new stuff from updates and not acknowledging pre-established features. did we need two advancements about waxed copper?? did we really need a splash about hanging signs?? recent updates really insist upon themselves and it irks me a little. this pretention is probably what bothers lots of other older players

That's much more love. And the enderman doesn't even make sense as a Steve re-skin, the proportions are all off, the more logical thing would have been to put pigmen/piglins or even Illagers there.
      Also, for the spirits. Besides the Wither, the only offensive mobs missing are the Illagers and the guardians. Even villagers got in with the Iron Golem. Not exactly few when compared to the actual number of offensive mobs we have.
      About the advancements. They work as tutorials, too. Not exactly easy to guess honeycombs and axes for putting and removing wax. And two advancements really isn't much... Don't really get the complaint, since most other mechanics in the game also have one or two at max, including the most recently added...

It was stated by Mojang that the concept of piglins was created for Legends, and they are by far the worst part of the nether update for me. Disk 5, the shitty lore bait trying to seem like disk 13 or 11, seems to be tied to the story of Legends where someone from the main Minecraft game goes through a portal into the Legends game. In fact, I entirely believe that the Minecraft movie was meant to be some sort of tie in with Legends, with the piglins, the characters arriving through a portal, etc. I don't really have a point to end this on besides that I hate Minecraft Legends and think that Minecraft would have been better off without it.

    While I do somewhat dislike Mojang making them into the games' "bad guys" (The illagers fit that much better as they actually do evil stuff like raid villages) I do think they are way more original than giant spiders, zombies and skeletons, which by this point are standard procedure for anyone wanting to make an enemy creature in a fantasy setting, while piglins are not the apex of originality they surely are better in that department than any of the previously mentioned creatures, with the only similar and well know example I can think of being japanese orcs, which are usually depicted as pig people.
    Also, while I do not prefer piglins as bad guys I do think it makes sense to have them play that role. There's not much you can do with zombies, skeletons, spiders, creepers and endermen as the game never even hints at them being something more than monsters which are there to kill you or be killed by you (with the possible exception of the skeleton which can also be found in nether fortresses, thereby hinting at them maybe playing a larger role in the world) meanwhile piglins do have a lot more content related to them, structures where they live, patrols which hunt hoglins and fight skeletons, a pool of items to barter for and a clear fixation with certain game elements like gold, which gives writers wanting to create an antagonist force much more to work with than any other mob aside from maybe the illagers.
    I also understand why playing into the 'illagers as bad guys' thing too much could be a source of undue controversy as having the bad guys of the best selling game in history by a bunch of dudes with big noses and shady dealings could be bad PR for Mojang and Microsoft. I am not saying illagers are antisemitic or anything, just that I understand why big companies who don't want to lose a penny over anything would like to avoid that discussion regardless of how baseless it is.
    Also: How can you make an entire video about the piglin and act like its a wholly new idea without even pausing to acknowledge that its one of the few ideas from notch that made their way back into the game long after Notch stepped down as head developer?

    Piglins and Illagers are the best villains we've got because they're intelligent, alien, and hostile. Endermen could work, but the evidence for their intelligence is actually quite scant because they have no obvious relationship to End cities. You can't have King Creeper and his creeper army because they're literally just some weird, unpleasant nocturnal animal. You also can't have a wizard creeper doing dark magic, like Evokers or the Seer.
    Piglins and Illagers also have clear moral themes: Piglins are greedy, while Illagers are resentful/vengeful, and both are hostile in general. It's unambiguous that they deserve to get smacked.
    Lastly anything End related means massive lore drops, and Mojang might want to use that sparingly. The End being the last place we go, and the last place the ancient builders seemed to explore, makes it inextricably tied to Minecraft's biggest mysteries, and some element of mystery always needs to be kept there.
    Hot take but Mojang was done a good job with both Illagers and Piglins. The Great Hog and the Arch Illager were both good antagonists, and both mob types are fun in-game.

    I like the notion of piglins, but the way mojang makes them the bad guys invading makes no sense with what minecraft currently has. A minecraft movie should reference experiences from the actual game that players remember, things like the first night, not knowing how the game works, the first encounter with a mob, building the aether portal only to fail, finding diamonds for the first time, going to the nether and killing a ghast, getting blown up by a creeper, herobrine and things like that. I'd like the movie to be filled with such callbacks while also having a narative that makes sense and is not only for young kids. Even the sonic and fnaf movies got the references to iconic moments in the franchises right, despite both having some controverises. But the minecraft movie looks unredeemably bad. For me it's not necessarily the hyperrealism, but the fact that the cast of characters seems to be chosen randomly, and poorly green screened on a world that does not resemble the source material. The whole trailer makes me think the entire plot would be a worse minecraft themed jumanji mixed with the plot of legends

    Part of what makes the creeper so iconic isn't its simplistic design, or the fact that it is original, but the fact that it's an enemy that can ONLY really exist in minecraft. The main threat of the creeper isn't the damage the explosion does to you, but more so how the explosion destroys the world and griefs your build. It adds a whole new threat that no mob but the ghast and enderman I guess is able to replicate. Put it in another game, and it's just a generic exploding enemy. In Minecraft though, a creeper near your base is possibly the most scary thing there is besides herobrine. Also, the green texture adds some camouflage with all the grass in the game and would be out of place almost anywhere else.

    Truth be told, I never really liked Piglins that much, especially since they completely replaced the Zombie Pigmen in favor of "Zombified" Piglins. I've grown to warm up to them as the years have gone by, but the big Piglin push that Microsoft/Mojang is trying to go for is making me not feel great about them again. Minecraft has so many iconic enemies, and pushing them to the wayside in favor of Piglins, Piglins, and more Piglins upsets me.

  • @vyvisabastard
    @vyvisabastard Месяц назад +1

    i would go out and say that piglins are iconic minecraft mobs to newer players. partially because of the marketing but lets not pretend minecraft didnt market to us as kids. creepers are the most iconic mob for a reason. theyre also generally more marketable than skeletons or zombies since both of those are kind of standard video game enemies. theyre not particularly special outside of being blocky, and this movie hates the blocky minecraft aesthetic for some reason
    enderman are cool and also a very iconic minecraft mob but the end is horribly underdeveloped, i hope we get an update at some point that brings in some new biomes or structures so that the end can be used for more than just elytras and shulkers and if youre really deep in it, exp farms.
    i think mojang is being held at gunpoint by mircosoft, they have their own ideas but microsoft has theirs, and whatever microsoft says goes. piglins are the most marketable mod aside from creepers and the 1.16 update was such a massive update and a huge turning point for minecraft so it makes sense why microsoft would go "these guys are what makes us money" since the nether update caused a huge resurgence of popularity

    what really irks me about the piglin is how rushed its texture is. the limbs were hastily put together and were copied and pasted without proper shading to make them fit the rest of the model. the head of the pilgin was also directly ripped from jappa's pig texture, without editing the massive shadow near the back of the head (which comes from the pig's torso, which is connected to the back of the head rather than the bottom) i have my own issues with jappa's textures, but whoever made the piglin texture was clearly someone separate from him who doesnt understand basic pixel art or jappa's decisions behind the pig's shading

    I don't disagree. We probably should get different mobs as enemies from time to time.
    That being said, piglins are good villains, even if they're not totally evil. They are fun guys to see, they can be goofy AND scary, and the fact that they come from the Nether puts them in a bigger contrast when compared to Illagers.
    I only contrast them with Illagers because they're a sentient faction. They also offer more depth because you can actually deal with them. Plus, I do think you're right about the Illagers and racial stereotypes. Not a good time to have them as villains, for sure; It'd spark some conversations I'm sure they want to avoid.
    I do think you're wrong about the endermen thing. They are probably just saving them for an "end" movie/media in general.

    There are so many better options for main villains. Ender dragon (duh) and the end by extension. Opportunity to give lore to the dragon. OR THE WITHER, a corrosive force that despises all life. That’s a much better premise than “we’re gonna take over the world!” type piglins. Warden could be a conflict for like the half way point of the movie. All in all they have much better options and this movie’s making up to be a minecraft legends promo. We will not see one zombie or skeleton, and creepers will get a 5 sec cameo

    I think the reason is because Piglins are both organised and are not defined by another mob, mobs like zombies, creepers and skeletons are just random monsters and are distinctly not an organised group, meanwhile Pillagers are defined by them being the opposite to villagers, Piglins can exist as a convenient chaotic evil faction without having to explain anything.

    Piglins will never be the main villains in their current state because they're not serving a greater boss and you don't see them often enough.
    Like, they only exist in the Nether which you will spend maybe like 5% of your playthrough in. People only go into the Nether to get what they want and leave usually.
    And if you simply wear gold they don't attack you. So they're just an annoyance.
    They're kind of on the same level as ender men in that regard, except ender men actually appear in the overworld too. But at least endermen are serving the Ender Dragon.
    I could see this change if the Nether gets its own boss on the same level as the Ender Dragon. Then piglins would actually be servants of this greater evil.

    "Why" is easy to answer - because piglins were added AFTER minecraft fell into microsoft greedy grabbers.
    Notch had a unique style and unique approach to development. He could afford making mistakes, and he absolutely owned his sh*t. He didn't had a business plan, he just did stuff, saw how it worked and tweaked it until he liked it.
    Microsoft is a company oriented on first and foremost MONEY. They don't create new - they exploit what is already there for what its worth. Piglins aren't all that creative design-wise, it's just antro-pigs, furaffinity was full of that stuff long before piglins were a thing. But that's all minecraft can do as a corporation.
    So they do best they can - try to substitute the image people have in their heads about minecraft. It's like they are whispering "no-no-no, minecraft isn't about exploding peat monsters or scary shadowmen pilfering your stuff in the night, minecraft is about cute piggies! And trading! And sharing! Very family-friendly!". I can 100% guarantee you, if they could have removed all the things Notch made and only keep the title WITHOUT loosing all of the fanbase - they would've done exactly so. But they know way too well the day they announce the removal of Creepers will be this game's last.

    I do like Piglins as the go-to opponent mob (in principle)... And it may be my nostalgia there as well, as Pigman served as the 'organised' enemies of the good old Fallen Kingdom tetralogy, over a decade ago. And the modern Piglins? They are honestly well suited for the role of villain.
    Lets make some comparisons! Illagers vs Piglins!
    They are the only two groups of enemies that have their own constructions and utilise weapons, which are not undead. Zombies and Skeletons are not known for their organisation skills.
    Illagers are always hostile to you. Piglins are hostile to you only if you do not wear gold (Which can be interpreted as a disguise, a distraction or possibly even a sign of alligence with them. Up to you, regardless, their default is hostile, unlike other 'neutral' mobs.)
    Illagers are Overworld & Piglins are Nether. There is benefits to either, but being hidden away to the Nether makes them fit for 'having things we do not know about them', as you are not really expected to spend much time in the Nether. It also makes for great scenery for contrast. You know when you are in Piglin Turf.
    Being contained to the Nether also makes them arguably later-game foes then Illagers, so that is a plus to the Villain roulette.
    Anyways, Legends Spoilers! Quick Plot Recap!
    The Legends Worlds Caretakers had run it essencially on Ultra-Peaceful. Everybody is friends! But the Piglins where not invited, and did whatever they did in the hostile enviorment of the Nether, and now came to the overworld to be quite literally Bullies. They are not nice to each other, but even their smallest runt can make the Overworldlers cower in fear, and they love that power-trip.
    So the Caretakers go bring you out of your Survival World to do the fighting in their stead, cause they ain't much of a set of fighters themself.
    One by one, you inspire the different 'hostile' mobs to aid you in the fight with their special abilities, and in the finale you even have villagers pick up arms to your aid, as you beat the invaders back into the nether and close the final portal they come from. Then in the Epiloge the Caretakers pull a Fallout 1 on you. You are a Hero, and you have to Leave. All the violence has changed the Legends world irreversable.
    In fact, it is more then just implied that the Villagers that took up arms to help you will become this worlds Illagers as they can no longer re-integrate into the villager society properly. Unlike the mobs who have natural abilities that helped them fight, the caretakers where actually quite concerned about the Armed Villagers because 'They where not supposed to fight. They should not need to.' So your Heroism was a bit to inspiring and in turn leads to societal collapse down the implied timeline.
    Anyways, a Minecraft Legends Movie could have worked. This is not a Minecraft Legends Movie from what I can see so far.

    “Pig fantasy races are nothing new in fiction” ah yes, when compared to Minecraft’s incredibly unique designs of a big spider, a walking skeleton, and zombies. While there are some good points made in this video, I don’t think that the fact that the idea is bland and kind of overused is the issue. The Minecraft movie doesn’t look good though, so we can agree on that.
