The Sega CD version is actually the one I played as a kid (and was, like, one of two Sega CD games I got an opportunity to play regularly) since my neighbor had a Sega CD (and not an SNES). And man, was it a BLAST to play.

The Japanese version of Final Fight for the Sega CD did not censor any characters and cut scenes.

  • @ConfusionDistortion

Just to add to this a bit. The original Super Famicom release of Final Fight has the blood intact, unlike the Snes release. Roxy and Poison are also present, unlike the Snes release, and in their skimpy clothes, unlike the Sega CD release. The statues with breast exposed are uncensored on the last stage, unlike the Snes release. Damnd and Sodom retain their original names, unlike the Snes release. "OH MY GOD!" was kept in the bonus stage, unlike the Snes release. The darker colored skin characters in the game are intact and not white washed, unlike the Snes release. Belger's chair remains the same as the arcade, unlike the Snes release. Stage 3 stays a bar, instead of a "club", unlike the Snes release. Music timing in scenes is correct, unlike the Snes release. There are probably a couple other minor things too, but in general, if you must play Final Fight on Snes, buy the SFC cart instead.
Mega CD wise blood is restored also, and Poison and Roxy have skimpy clothes again. Basically the lesson here is that both the Sega CD and Snes releases are missing stuff. If you want the best releases, you need to buy the uncensored Japanese versions on either system.
Also, the timing of the animations is off on the Sega CD and Mega CD game. This affects the dial combos some when you convert them into throws and the over all speed of the game because the animations for the attacks are slightly slower then they should be. The Snes/SFC versions do not suffer this issue.

Fun facts: There is a Game Boy Advance version of Final Fight 1 called "Final Fight One" and it is a remake of the original arcade version. The GBA version was developed by Sun-Tec and was released in 2001. In the GBA version of the game, you can play as Guy, Cody, Haggar, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Cody and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Guy, you can play in 2-player mode via link cable and vice versa.

The SNES version of Final Fight was almost certainly a rush job to get it out in time for the Super Famicom launch window. Final Fight 2 is proof that the SNES would've been capable of a more proper port of the original game.

The arcade has slightly better graphics and (depending on the region) it has no censorship, however the music is so much better on Sega CD. I'd say it would be great if you can go for both versions, but ignore the Snes one at all cost.

I'm pretty sure the programmers thought the super Nintendo couldn't handle all the stuff they cut out of the first game but by the time the second one came out, they included all those cut things, I'm sure if they would have re released the first game after the second one got released, it would include everything that was cut in the original release. also if i remember correctly, poison and Roxy wear the sexy clothes in the super famicom version

    • @mxev9626
      @mxev9626 6 лет назад +1

I think it's not that they thought the SNES couldn't handle all the stuff but rather that the hardware was new back when the first Final Fight was ported and they simply couldn't port everything perfectly. By the time the second part was ported they were much more acquainted with SNES and could squeeze more out of it.
It can be seen with any game system - despite the hardware being the same the later games are more technically sophisticated than the early ones.

glad I chose UN Squadron over Final Fight when they first came out on the SNES. Later bought a Sega CD and could finally get the better version! I was hoping you and greg would do final fight as a console wars episode. it'd be a Dan sweep!

El Kaiser 78 It wasn't horrendous for 1990 (SNES port Japan release date). The Sega CD port was released in 1993 (release date all countries).

And between arcade and sega cd which one is better?

The colors were better on SNES and the shading was smoother, due to Sega's color pallet limitation. Other than that, the Sega CD version is the superior port in every aspect.

This should of been used for a Console Wars video.
BTW, Dan, I wonder why you and Greg never did a Sega CD or 32X game vs a SNES game????

Sooo which version is the best??? Ohhh I know the arcade or double impact psn port!

edmanr2010 I have Double Impact on 360 and CCC Vol. 1 on PS2, and I still prefer the Sega CD version even to those arcade ports. 2 reasons: I like the remixes music on the Sega CD version better than Double Impact’s, and I feel that the difficulty is balanced better. The Sega CD version has fewer enemies on screen at once than arcade (but more than SNES)

I have Double Impact on PS4 and I find the challenges annoying as crap keeps popping up on the screen every 5 minutes, it puts me off.. I also have the fantastic Final Fight CD on MEGA CD, a fantastic port. What I do like about Double impact is the other game :)

Snes had limited cartride space and capcom didn't bother to spend extra money for bigger cartride space nope, so the snes version was toned down drastically,
also capcom didn't bother to convvert those arcade instruments to snes hardware, instead they just replaced those instruments with those muffed recorded trumpet like instruments from the snes dev kit instead.
And having no 2 player option was the bottleneck for this version.
Why did capcom did this, because it has to be fast & cheap ported as possible to save time & money so they had to cut corners, unfortunately?!

You're comparing a $200 system to a $500 system and a port which was 3 years later than the SNES port, the Sega CD *alone* costed $100 more than a SNES, so it's not really that surprising the game is more fully featured on the vastly more expensive kit.
For me personally, the SNES port rocked, as it came out when I was a young teenager, three years later when the Sega port dropped, I was more interested in girls than Final Fight.
