You forgot the fact that 3 allowed for a lot of different route changes (if you break certain things or enter certain doors), and some options you can skip enemies altogether. There are also weapons which are suited directly to the heores and allow additional and better attacking with, and a lot more control of attacks and the super attack that is added on 3. I liked 3 a lot, but I also adore 2
sounds like an outrun version of the beat 'em up genre. great idea.
Golden Axe 3 also had branching paths, though I'm not sure if FF3 came first or not.
Livnat Mizrahi Part 2 is way too hard
Final Fight 3 is def the best of the trilogy! Amazing game!
I hated it. It felt more like a Rushing Beat game rather than a Final Fight one.
@@nebularain3338 I liked part one the best
I like the 2nd one the best
Yes - sure I own all 3 - the 3rd is the best. But not compared to Streets of Rage 2 or Paprium on Megadrive
@@greensun1334 SoR2 is one of best beatem up in 16 bits but Paprium is other thing, it can not be in this competion obviously is a modern game with modern technlogy ;-) no dicusion possible here. We talk about games from 16 bits life with that tech in 90s, is written History. Paprium is great but I and most of people can not consider it a Megadrive game even if it runs on it, is other thing , modern game.
The biggest problem I have with the original Final Fight is the lack of check points. I feel like that's where most of the difficulty comes from.
Yup. That's what keeps me from liking it. It just gets too frustrating and not fun after a while.
I can't play any Final Fight games after 3....That one was on another level!!!
Meh... I guess I'd agree and disagree at the same time. Streetwise is not a good game, but it's definitely not a bad game, either. I guess the goal of that game was not to make it look edgy, or cool, but to make it in a somewhat realistic 90's style environment, in a rugged city filled with crime, gangs and combat, so the feeling of that does in a way pay respect to the franchise a bit. (IMHO)
@@KurisuKagato I really wish Streetwise took off tbh. Would of made an awesome edgy sub-series if anything. If only they nailed it. Would would be...?
One thing I love about not having a certain system growing up is you get to play new games you never knew about! As a Sega genesis fan who loves beat em ups. This series was so fun to play! Great video man! Awesome content!
For me, the biggest fault with the 1st Final Fight on the SNES was when you lose all your lives, then you back to the beginning of the stage. There are no checkpoints, even if you’re at the boss.
git gud
jk (mostly)
Welcome to most games back then? If u suck just say so nerd.
Final Fight 3 has to be one of my favourite beat-em-ups and might just make my top 5 scrolling fighters. The original will always have a special place in my heart though as I played it to death in the arcade and subsequently snes.
Kudos for mentioning how the impact sound is really important in beat em ups. It’s often overlooked and imo is a massive factor.
It's one of the more underrated improvements between SOR1 and SOR2.
Love how Chun-Li from street fighter is just there eating Ramen at 3:10
5:14 Haggar = 6.64 ft
2:39 Haggar = 6'10"
3:43 Haggar = 6'7"
He grew about three inches for FF2 but then shrank again :O
LAZER_SKULLx99 - They do say you lose height as you get older, but this is ridiculous.
He was 6’8 in FinaFightCD
He measures his height in different shoes?
Like many Hollywood celebrities, Hagger is wearing lifts and lying about his real height.
@@ThatOldSchoolMagic in the snes manual says 6'8" as well 😎
He still at least 6 inches taller than me
I remember I sold my Genesis to get a SNES and back again about 3 times. I think this was the first game to convince me to sell my Genesis for a SNES!
It was the first game I ever saw with such huge sprites! I didn't believe a home system could duplicate those huge arcade sprites, it was a first for the time. I had to have it. Yeah, Sega had Streets of Rage, but notice the small onscreen characters in that game?
Eventually I believe the blood in mortal kombat convinced me to sell the SNES back for a Genesis, but then I was struck how the graphics (more bright/colorful) and audio were much better on the SNES version of MK. So I went back yet again to SNES and stayed there.
Strangest thing, the 4th level IS STILL IN the SNES game, you can access it via an Action Replay, it's just missing the correct sprites, so looks like a garbled mess.
Wonder if it was a case of they tried, realised they couldn't put it in fully and just left the bits in still?
Which would be pretty stupid since they could probably use that space to maybe add Guy or something else?
@@LeeONardo ...yes - this would be enough Space to add Guy and a 2player-Mode.
Cool. Have you done a video on that? I was wondering why the song from the missing stage was in the hidden options menu sound test. So is Poison/Roxy's death cry, but they're in the Japanese versions so that makes more sense.
@@derossetmyers47 I've partially written one on it, as the SNES Final Fight as loads of weird stuff in it.
Um, I'm pretty sure you can turn off hitting each other in Final Fight 3.
*opens emulator to confirm*
Yes, you can. You change Hit Config to Off. Sadly, the second one doesn't have that option.
Great Video!
Final Fight in the arcade blew my mind as a young kid. Someday it is my dream to own the arcade cabinet!
Why do that when you can play it on the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle?
I used to own the JAMMA PCB to it back in the day. But you can obviously get it not just on various past, and modern consoles in arcade perfect form, but in arcade machine form via the Arcade 1Up now too.
Gladly, I own ALL THREE Final Fight games for SNES. The first one is a classic despite its limitations. Final Fight 2, however, is definitely my absolute favorite of the bunch, even though 3 may be the best of the series.
Any game you play and have playing is worth playing today. Honestly i like the old games a hella lot better then games today
Wow. The music from the first Final Fight really takes me back.
Seeing that first boss sit on the rail and whistle for bad guys to come blew my mind as a kid.
I love how Haggar has decided to grow a ponytail and put on really tight shorts in the third one.
Love watching your reviews man youve allowed to pick and choose snes games much more efficiently thanks man
I found final fight on xbox one i first played it on nintendo though so later on when on xbox oh the memories ive beat these games alot but it never gets old.
Love the Final Fight series. Played all 3 when I was little. 3 is still my favorite. I have a SNES multcart with the first 3 games plus FFGuy.
Hey man, I'm a newish subscriber and I quite enjoy your work. You're down to earth and seem to really enjoy the subject material you talk about. Please keep it going!
+DocGamer Thanks for watching
Really good, concise overview. Keep the great content coming.
Totally right about the sound effects in final fight. Was so satisfying hearing the noise of clocking dudes over and over again. Plus you've got to love the mayor's no nonsense approach to dealing with crime.
Cody has the amazing ability to look like he’s being grabbed when he grabs an enemy.
I've never played the 2nd or 3rd one. But I grew up playing the 1st final fight. So to me it'll always be my favorite
FINAL FIGHT was also the 1st SNES game we'd gotten with the SNES that xmas it came out.
It was amazing at the time! The port showed its issues over time in comparison but it was still a GEM to use as kids at the time. My brother, it's still one of his fave games so even with the issues with the SNES port. He was a super happy kid to get it!
He couldn't believe we were playing it at home
3:13 Hey, it's Chun Li in the background! I always loved that nice little hat tip.
Gr8 video. Thank you for releasing HQ content on YT. I almost adore FF games, esp. "Final Fight Tough" (Japanese version of the third game) and "Mighty Final Fight" which is one of the most exciting games for NES / Famicom console. Got used to play those games using the emu-s for my Android smartphone. The first classic one is still too (extremely) challenging for me 😅😂

Final Fight 3 is my favourite Beat'em up, and it has my favourite soundtrack from any Capcom game~♥
I love it!
I agree, though it's a shame a copy costs so much these days. Price aside and for me it's really a toss up between TMNT IV and Final Fight 3 for the best beat em up on the snes. I love all the moves you can pull off and string together, and the soundtrack is absolutely top notch.
My favorite Beat'em up ever as well!
Would have benefited from better weapon placement
SNES aside, Bare Knuckle III is perhaps the best classic 2D beat-em'up overall
@@Victory-in-YAHUSHA Streets of Rage 2 is my Favourite
Final Fight 3 is my all time favorite. The way they present the story, the special moves, different routes and great graphics...*chef kiss. Still play it on my original snes all the time
For me the first final fight was the one. It was my second snes game and the first to really bring the 90s arcade feeing home. To this day, the snes remix of the themes bring back fond memories and every once in a while I’ll boot up my snes emulator for a wonderful trip down memory lane! Thank you capcom!
Whoa I have played around with Final Fight over the years & watched videos on the series but I never knew you could "command throw" (as they are called in Fight N Rage) in a combo without a grab. Not listed in the manual. Thanks drunk , that improves my enjoyment of this particular cart
awesome video bro, I have all of them on capcom collection vol 1 &2 its a very good port
I've been trying to remember the name of these games forever. played final fight 2 with my cousin for hours. Countless times we beat it. Probably my fav snes game.
I prefer playing multiplayer but you brought up some really great pros for the first game. What about Mighty Final Fight? I know that one i really expensive but its part of the series technically.
Just purchased Final Fight Tough (Final Fight 3) for the Super Famicom! Looking forward to it.
Final fight two and three are top ten classics.
2 is meh
3 is awesome tho
@@arkanjoteixeira
Final fight 2 is genius
Final fight 3 is a timeless classic.
Final Fight 2 and 3 are rare, and some of the most expensive SNES games now, especially if you want them in good condition. I think they made a lot more copies of the first Final Fight because it was a launch title and released with the SNES.
Final fight guy is great I love it
@@j0nnyism FFG is indeed better than SNES Final Fight.
I got final fight 1 in the capcom beat em up classics on steam last year. Best original arcade port since the Sega CD
Great video. The original Final Fight on the SNES gets too much hate becasue people don't do proper research into the technology and circumstances of the time and just assume Capcom left stuff out because they couldn't be bothered. It wasn't like that and here's why the it had stuff missing -
2 player mode - Final Fight was a launch game for a brand new system so the programmers weren't familiar with the assembler code or hardware enough to know how to get around the SNES' incredibly slow Ricoh 5A22 CPU which clocked in at 3.58MHz, so the two player mode would have ground the game to a near halt with slowdown, and this is also why only 3 enemies are on screen. Compare that with the arcade boards Motorola 68000 CPU which is clocked in at over twice the speed of the SNES' chip at 10MHz plus it had a load of custom chips to handle graphics and sound then you see the problem here, and its not Capcom's fault.
Guy and the missing level - The maximum cartridge size in 1990 for a Super Famicom game was 8Megabits and so what you see in the game is all they could fit in. They didn't leave stuff out just to be lazy or to be deliberately shit to the players, the technology literally didn't exist yet and wouldn't do until 2 years later when Streetfighter II came along in a 16Megabit cartridge.
Graphical changes - You couldn't just use the arcade game's graphics on the SNES becasue the maximum resolutions are different. The CPS-1 arcade board had a max resolution of 384x224 whereas the SNES only had a max of 256x224 (over 100 pixels less) so the sprites would have been far too big on the screen, not only for the gameplay but the aforementioned slow CPU could never have handled it and so that's why everything was redrawn by hand.
Finally, I think it's important to realise that the arcade game was released in December of 1989 and the SNES port came out in December of 1990. That's just a year, and development didn't start on the SNES game the minute the arcade game was released as Nintendo probably didn't strike a deal with Capcom until mid 1990. So with that in mind, to have a group of people trying to port what is a very recent and state of the art arcade game onto an inferior but still new and unfamiliar system within a few months was a huge task. I think that under all those circumstances it's a fucking tremendous port!
I totally agree about the sound effects too. They gave so much impact to the hits and some games just overlook this. As for the sequels I'll keep it brief since I've ranted for far to long -
Though FF2 was solid and beautiful looking but it just didn't have anything new.
FF3 felt more like a Rival Turf sequel than a Final Fight one. Kind of thin, by the numbers and a little flimsy but it was ok. Needed more heavy sound effects.
Psyclapse I don't think anyone hates Final Fight SNES. They just can't go back to it once they've refamiliarised themselves with the original because the compromises are so severe.
the first one is the best.... but i think its because they sacrifice the 2 player for solid big sprite gameplay compare to the sequels
Psyclapse man...who are you??
I can't play the SNES Final Fight One because the hit detection is bad relative to the other games. I play it once in a while, but usually more for self-punishment than anything.
Yeah, your average person doesn't really care enough to pay attention to all this shit. Lol. They just care that they're missing a character, a level, and co-op 2-player (best part of beat em ups). It's awesome that you're so knowledgeable about these things, but knowing them doesn't fix the end product.
IS THAT CHUN-LI SITTING IN THE BACKGROUND AT 3:14?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Anyone else notice that? pretty coolllllll
PogSlammer Looks like it!
This has been known since the early 90s dude. All the magazines of the time pointed it out as well as the Guile cameo in stage 2. It's very old news.
OMG How did i not know this?!! I'm sooo stupid and behind the times! Oh, maybe caz i didn't have a SNES growing up nor did i subscribe to any gaming related magazines as a kid. Troll of the day award goes to...
lotta Capcom stuff always has crossovers, many FF characters are in the SF series
Sodom, Cody, Guy, Hugo, Poison and, most recently, Abigail, have all become playable characters in Street Fighter, yeah. Sadly no Haggar - I think they made some kind of (bullshit) official decision that he'd stay in the Capcom Vs. games and not Street Fighter. ¬__¬
Cody and Poison are even two of my all-time favourite top ten characters to play as in SF, even. Can't beat being a lazy con in a vaudeville prison outfit who slugs people in the face with a hidden wrench and who's victory pose is lying down for a nap, or a punk rock transsexual dominatrix former gang lietenant and now successful businesswoman kicking the ass of the all of the straight dudes. Also they're like the only two characters in ALL of Street Fighter who's fighting style is ACTUAL STREET FIGHTING.
Great vid like always ...its funny i just did a comparison vid on the original game
holy crap... I've been watching you for 2 1/2 years?!
Final Fight 3 is my favorite one. Music and gameplay was amazing.
I have a retrocade. Never played Mighty Final Fight when was young. Been playing it recently, it is so much fucking fun
Speaking of price, I recently got a copy of the Japanese Final Fight 2 for $9. And you don't have to read to enjoy some Final Fight. Definitely consider this option if you want to save some cash.
I just put Final Fight 3 on my Wii U virtual console… once I finish Metroid Dread I’m jumping in.
I have a compilation called Capcom Classics for the original XBox that has the arcade version of Final Fight. It’s definitely a satisfying game to play.
The first final fight on the snes was the only way to play it at home at the time and while it has it limitations (no Guy was massive for me) it’s still a great game. I was spending a lot of time in arcades prior to the time of its Snes release though and had already played through the game with each character several times. It was never a game I’d of bought but I rented it and still enjoyed it regardless.
Final Fight 3 is one of the best SNES-brawlers. Capcom is the master of brawlers!
Have you played Mighty Final Fight for the NES? That was a fun game.
I really liked the first Final Fight on SNES- especially the soundtrack. Final Fight 2 was probably my favorite on the system- it has 3 selectable characters, and a full set of stages. Final Fight 3 was mixed for me. It has better presentation, but the slowdown is horrendous and the enemy selection is noticeably smaller.
What annoys me about the first one on SNES is that I actually like it the most, other than the fact one of the fighters is missing and there's no two player. But I just like the way it looks and moves and feels more than the others.
Super R Type has great sound and ost on the snes also
I love FF3 soundtrack so much!!!! And you picked my favorite song to begin the analysis. It's such a perfect urban soundtrack. Not as memorable as Chrono Trigger, but couldn't be any better for a street level game.
FF3 is really an easy game, I recommend it to introduce players to the Beat'em ups. My only complain are the bosses, they have a really repetitive pattern; in other words, don't stay close to the boss after you knock him down.
And you're absolutely right about the punch sound on FF1.
"Law And Disorder" that's the song.... so good.... I want to punch some punks right now!
+Cyrus Annihilator Oh yeah, it's the friggin best
The head of the Mad Gears in the first game reminds me of the main bad guy in Cyborg with Jean Claude Van Damage. I also wish he was in the SF series!! The cyborg was also in Point Break!
Since you like Final Fight on the SNES so much, have you ever thought about doing a tutorial? I find the SNES port to be incredibly difficult
Haggar with the double bicep pose with the drop kick
For me is the first one I prefer playing!
i never liked the first game because the lack of multiplayer..my brother don't let me play maybe it's time to give it a chance :p but ff2 & 3 are on my top list of beat em up. good video fella like always, your channel is awesome
Personaly i love final figth 3, for me, it was the first i play
Geez. Final fight was so freaking awesome. Blew me away as a kid.
I love Final Fighter but I'm still waiting for The Peace Keepers, great sound, more moves, lot's of characters and a super sayain, but of course you know that.
I liked it last time I saw this game was in the arcades. I guess he's called Haggar green pants and suspenders his likeness is in Saturday night slam masters.
I recommend buying the Super Famicom version of Final Fight 2 and Guy if you plan on getting the games in cartridge form. Unfortunately the 3rd instalment is expensive world wide iirc
And even for a loose cartridge, expect for the price to teeter near the $100 range. I should know, because when I bought my copy of Final Fight 3 at a game convention in 2018, it cost me $89 bucks, but the gameplay is worth every penny.
Great point about the sound effects when hitting enemies, that's one of the reasons most Megadrive fans prefer Streets of Rage 2 over 3 or Street Fighter 2 SCE over Eternal Champions.
That's weird because I never really understood that... because every time I hear really crunchy, distorted hit sounds, I just think of every crap Jaleco beat em up and it just doesn't sit well with me...
That said, I am more of a "does the sound match the damage value" kind of guy. Like, if it's a big crunchy sound, that shit better have taken off a sizeable chunk of health.
This is how I personally scored the games:Sound Design -3 had the best music, 1 had the best strike sounds, 2+3 are tied for death groans. All had great music, but 3's instrumentation was just cleaner.Hit Detection -3 had the best detection, period. A lot less i-frames for enemies, like Andores and Bosses. Unlike 1 and 2 where you can stand on line with the enemy/boss and whiff a few times before the hit registers.Control -2 was better than 1, but 3 was a lot smoother and more responsive.Artwork/Visual Design -2 had the classic CAPCOM style and the best mix of , 1 was a murky grey mess except Andore and some of small enemies, and 3 had great looking bosses, but a few of the sprites just were bland, like Lucia had no definition in her skin feature, unlike Maki, who was shaded pretty well. Like 3 didn't know if it wanted to be part of classic CAPCOM or the ALPHA series at points. For backgrounds, 3 had it dialed to 11 in detail, and felt more compatible with the sprites than 1 and 2 did in some cases.Story? -Is this even important? 1 and 2 are better premises, but 3 does have interesting character backstory for Dean. He doesn't get involved in the gang warfare in Metro City, and after refusing to join the largest gang, they kill his family and he seeking revenge. That's neat. As well as the idea that after the Mad Gear's demise, new crime organizations started to fight over influence, I wish that angle was played up on more.Personally 3 is my favorite, but 2 is close runner up and the only reason it isn't is because of the detection issues. I can only play 1 on GBA or Sega CD just because the SNES feels so empty, unpolished, and incomplete.I'm shocked you haven't done Mighty Final Fight. That will be an interesting game to cover.
I've played final fight 1 and 3 on snes and final fight arcade! If it's the poor port for the snes then damn I always loved it! Never played final fight on sega cd, which I heard was the best port! I ordered a sega mini 2 yesterday so when it gets in from Japan it's gonna be my first game to boot up!
God, how I loved Final Fight 2 back at its time. Got the Japanese Copy for just 20Bucks then.
Also try out Streets of Rage Remake. Really good.
I like FF3 and Captain Commando both are good beat em up game :)
I want to own the whole Final Fight series for my SNES .. I'll come back and let you know when I have All 3 for my SNES and the GBA version of it.
I've been trying to defeat Final Fight on SNES lately but it's pretty hard, even on the easiest setting...I did get to Belger though. I can just play it on Switch anyway
I wonder if 2 and/or 3 would be more approachable
Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great rest of your day
If you want to play final fight (first one) play the Sega Cd version, it's amazing.
Given you actually have a Sega CD ;-)
Enchurito Better yet, play Final Fight 3. That game is awesome
emulators, duh
Enchurito the best version was the sega cd version.
is the sega cd version really that good. I've never played it but I've seen the games action and I'm really hoping that the controls are much better like the controls in Final Fight 2 and 3.
The REAL deal-breaker on the SNES port is no Poison. :P
The original is still my favourite game of all time. So many memories and yes it's completely nostalgia based
I can respect a healthy dose of self awareness.
This is My favorite and id like a remake or new title akin to streets of rage 4
In all those years playing these games, I never noticed there is never more than 3 enemies on my screen. Also, just do the hitting combo and keep down pressed to end it tossing the enemy backwards or up to send them forward.
You can get it on Xbox 360 - Capcom Collection Disc.
U don't have to grab them to throw them simply press down and attack on the third hit in anyone's combo so like x,x down and x then they will throw to the other side
@4:09 I wish usses had that much room
I have every snes final fight cart, and I'd have to say the first one or ff guy is my favorite
i luv the first one as well..
One thing that always made me laugh a little is how ridiculously JACKED the bosses are
"OH MY CA-" LMADO
It didn't have the R on it! 🤣🤣
They also censored the girls that were villains. No beating up women on the SNES, also they changed the names on quite a few characters as well.
How in the hell do you do haggar’s spinning pile driver? I have tried and tried. Can’t figure it out. Guess I am stupid.
I'm surprised there was no mention of the slowdown that happens when playing co-op in 2 and 3... it is extremely noticeable and detracts from the experience... the Arcade hack for Final Fight Guy makes that game the best of the SNES series... 3 would be 2nd best in my opinion... 2 is still good but is easily the worst of the trilogy.
I think the first Final Fight feels a lot more real, gritty, 80s biker/punk than 2 and 3. When 2 and 3 came out they tried to make them more super hero-ish...Haggar's weird outfits and his pony tail in the 3rd game.
I have to agree... The original has a brutal feel/character to it. I remember playing Haggar - walking around and beating the living crap out of those street thugs, with that tense, booming background music. Definitely more flavor than 2 and 3; of course the arcade version is the best.
I didn't know you could punch then throw them in the opposite direction in final fight 1. That probably would have made things slightly easier 😉
I don't know if it's just me but when ever I played Final Fight it always seemed like I found a health boost after I needed it. I would be low on health then die then I would punch a barrel and there would be a health boost but now I'm full on heath. Streets of Rage always seemed to have the health boost right when you needed it Sega just made that little detail better some how.
I’m getting to play all of these for the first time via the Wii U virtual console. Much cheaper way to play Final Fight 3
no wonder i only saw FFguy at blockbuster, damn never knew it was an exclusive.
Final fight guy is my fav it’s expensive tho
Somewhat unrelated, but it's fascinating from a linguistic perspective how "is problematic" has completely replaced "is a problem" for use in describing problems in American English. Their use and function is the same, yet you rarely hear "is a problem" like you would in the near immediate past or several decades before. Kinda neat if unusual.
i wish i had final fight 3..i got final fight and final fight 2..
All of them!
I prefer the JP Sega CD version of Final Fight over all both the arcade and SNES version, but I do not think the SNES version is bad by any means.
Good review as always. Without a doubt, the arcade Final Fight is the king of beat em ups. On console however, I would almost always prefer either the Streets of Rage series on Genesis (both for playability and cost), or the Rushing Beat Trilogy on SNES (Rival Turf, Brawl Brothers, Peace Keepers) for the same reason. It's not a popular sentiment, but I just like how those two series play on console over the Final Fight games. Final Fight 2 doesn't even look as good as Final Fight, it's sole purpose is to make up for the lack of co-op in the first game, and tone down the difficulty. Final Fight 3 is a step in the right direction, 4 playable characters, co-op, fresh mechanics, but the price tag on that these days is a bit steep.
I bought final fight 3 for 400 bucks new on ebay.
I'm kinda cheap when it comes to games, I usually just stick to loose copies, and even then I'm kinda cheap *shrugs*.
J Myers u know it was rare I like it a lot ff3 I just went for broke and said what the hell this kinda opportunity don,t come that often.
Joan Agrossa
True, I had a chance to trade for some big ticket items earlier this year and went for it.
J Myers yeah I like retrogaming too andgaming that's out today. I got the rereasle of resident evil 5 for ps4. love it.
