@@franchisefred4066 no one is forcing people to buy them with markups and some dealers still have waiting lists for purchasing at MSRP. Regardless, they'll hold their value just as well (if not better) than the previous generation R. If this is truly the last fully combustion engine R, a model with low miles and good maintenance would probably sell for quite a lot in another 20-30 years.
Edit: I agree, for 80k, there are better cars. I don't like dealer markups either, but not all of them will be sold for 70+.

Congrats on the new FL5! I agree with 100% about the quality. That is the first thing you notice when driving this car. The build quality is definitely taken to another level on this one compared to the Fk8. They stepped it up a lot!
FL5 is made in Japan, huge difference.
@@elusivellama the materials used also plays a big role. Huge difference in the 11th gen civic as a whole vs the 10th gen. 😎
Finally quit making the car in the UK with their lousy fit and finish.
They're the same in quality whether it was made in japan or uk.

Congrats man. I bought an Elantra N DCT at the end of October for my birthday. Drove 4 hours out of town to get it with no markups and 39k out the door. I feel like the EN and the CTR are probably the closest competitors to each other from a track perspective and daily as well.

Smaller wheel diameter makes the biggest difference in road noise in my experience.
I think it looks more like a family friendly sport sedan now than it's previous gen but it's also a very clean look that I'm slowly enjoying.

I redline my new Honda cars right off the lot when I get them, including my last Type-R. It was great in the winter too.
I ended up pulling the trigger on a few years old STI instead of waiting for one of these to show up. I am tired of dealing with Toyota and Honda dealerships at this point wanting 25k over MSRP. I will enjoy the STI until the prices of these comes down to 40k. Great car, but I will have to wait.

Whats crazy is all of the cars you have driven you chose the FL5. That shows the quality of the craftsmanship of how Honda builds with love. Enjoy!
The only internal part of an engine that needs "break in" is the piston rings. Not bearings, not seals, not gaskets, not chains, nothing else at all. By the time the engine gets about 25 miles with proper loads, specially since this car gets tested at the factory before delivery, your completely fine sending it after that. All those break in myths are unfounded and perpetuated by folks that dont know what they talk about, ask real engine experts on your own to confirm.
Note that you film at night and the lighting is weak, but you gave the right to the car because all the reviews about the car and the videos that I used to see in the past were beautifying the look of the car, but you gave me another impression, I felt that I was with you by the way I liked that you used a lamp The phone 😂👍🏽 Thank you bro
Hey Topher, one thing I used to do with my GTI was to put a sock inside out on the shift knob when I parked. Helped it from getting piping hot in the summer and better than touching the freezing knob in the winter. Congrats on the amazing new car!
Tbh the FK8 markups didn't really cool down with time, especially with the supply issues that came during COVID. Even for the 2021s at the end of production, some dealers were asking $20K over with a straight face. But, like you mentioned, getting on lists from msrp dealers will eventually get you one for msrp if you're patient.
2019 was the best time to buy an FK8. My buddy shopped around the Seattle area and most places were about $3-5k over during that time. He was able to go to a dealer 2 hours away for MSRP, and pick it up same day in the color he wanted. As a major recession looms over us, I can only imagine 2023-24 will be better than current time to get into an FL5 brand new.
@@AsAngelsFall221 Nice! I was able to pick my 2021 up for msrp too, about 50 minutes from my house. Like the FK8, plenty of dealers will be willing to sell for msrp, just maybe not the one closest to you. But I don't see the trend of many dealers trying to get markups on these cars ever coming to an end, especially with the EV era right around the corner.

Me too. I love my Si but the Type R is for sure my dream car. To bad it's basically unobtainium at the point with the insane mark ups. If I could get it at msrp I would actually be able to afford it. But I see them going for 60-70k and that's just insane.

if you even think there is half a chance you want that alcantara steering wheel or any other accessories that seem reasonably priced I would buy them immediately. You won't lose money on them if you decide not to use them but you can pretty much rest assured the prices will go up once they go on backorder after the first batch of crap runs out.

What other colours were offered? I know championship white is definitely the best out of all, but I’ve seen black civics at dealers on videos. And here in Canada at least on the website we get (Champ White, Red, Grey Pearl)

Protect your family and order a winter tire and wheel package from Tire rack. Set of steelies with Michelin XICE or Blizaks. Then report your driving experience throughout the winter and prove that a properly equipped sports car can be driven year through the winter. Then add summer tires for the track days this summer. It would be nice to see a long term POV for a sports car that's economical, reliable, safe in the winter and fun at the track- all within a reasonable budget.

Yes! Finally, adaptive cruise control with a manual transmission! So many automakers only allow you to have that with an automatic transmission.

Agreed on the leather steering wheel. Much easier to maintain. Unless you plan to wear leather gloves every time you go driving, alcantara gets grimy and matted and gross over time.

Congrats on getting the Type R! Two years ago I test drove an 18 Type R and knew I had to get one one day. Since then I found your channel and have watched pretty much all of your Type R content. Helps me cope ha! My wife is sick of hearing about cars though! Take a road trip down to North Carolina with that thing and let’s go on the Tail of Dragon while I’m waiting to get one myself ha! Congrats on the CTR! Looks better than the FK8 and Honda says they fixed the overheating issues on track, so two steps in the right direction IMO. Surprised you wouldn't use the BRZ for track given it's lighter, NA and RWD. Either way, looking forward to seeing more content.

Hi… very nice car. I know you did a few reviews of the 2022 WRX Premium. You seemed to have enjoyed it a lot. I ended up buying one and I love it. Your reviews and my own test drives were the deciding factor in my buying one. Maybe you got your type R for a good price…. Most have serious dealer markups.. I paid sticker for my WRX. NO emergency brake on the R was an issue for me. I love your show… Especially with my headphones on.. Keep up the good work…
