- For the complete cantata Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht, 'Kaffeekantate' BWV 211 go to: • Bach - Schweigt stille... .
In Bach’s day, drinking coffee was not without controversy. The effects of the beverage were unknown as yet. The text by Bach’s librettist Picander tells of a girl who is addicted to coffee, of women who know their own mind, and sexual innuendo is never far away. In this aria from the 'Kaffeecantate' main character Liesgen sings of her love for the fashionable drink for which she even seems willing to give up parties and men.

Marten Root, traverso
Marc Pantus, theatre concept, direction and design
Most sopranos approach this aria more calmly. I love how she acknowledges the jitters and uses them. There is a thinly disguised mania that makes the performance.
I love how Sato can't help smiling in the background :)
He doesn't need to smile
@@danielrubio3391 what do you mean?
@@danielrubio3391and all, i wish I understand the language but Sato is sitting there as a customer in this show, and theres nothing inappropriate about him smiling just only a little, to see a crazy lover of a delicious coffee. A lovely voice. I look forward to watching all the related films on this episode. Shunsuke Sato brought me to the Netherlands Bach Society and thank you!!!
@@NattoDreamWhat the heck? Who said there was anything inappropriate about it? lmfao
@@nachisuper it was a reaction to a comment . I believe there was nothing inappropriate too.
As a caffeine addict, I can confirm this is accurate
The baroque equivalent of ‘When Harry met Sally’: “I’ll have what she’s having”! Delicious!
Her voice is incredible, wow😮
I’ve never heard such a sensual presentation like this; she’s an outstanding dramatic singer
I dare to ask…
But is this performed at a Starbachs?
☕️😉
😂
Ok, you win the internet today.

This scene will forever play in my mind every morning with my beloved cup of ☕️
This is what happens if you give Elaine Benes too much coffee. Great performance!
Like good coffee, with flavor and body, unctuous, vaporous and...sweet... combining the best of Bach's music with a dramatic (comical) incredible staging.
I knew the work well when I first heard this version and it has become my favorite (with a mention of my previous favorite; Rilling's) including the fantastic license to leave the score at 03:35 which I am sure Bach would like greatly. 🙂
This is lovely and creative. These videos are an absolute gift!
I love the staging and both the instrumental and vocal performances.
Thanks for producing such a delightful performance. This beautiful aria complements my morning coffee and bright up my day!
This was a great creative way to bring this mini drama to life. Outstanding flute and a remarkable voice joined together so well. 😊
Im currently Listening to this while drinking tea. It's so beautiful
Beautiful voice..
Beautiful vibes..
The list of musicians is not complete, the lady who plays the bass is missing: Lucia Swarts. ☝🧐
Unbelievable!
Delightful presentation.
Meraviglioso questo patos barocco sullo sfondo delle porcellane bianche, la tovaglia inamidata e la luce diafana del surreale ❤
If I don’t get my coffee I shall shrivel up like a piece of roast goat.
Gorgeous... ❤️
Шедеврально!
If this isn't deserving of a like I don't know what is
Just love the setting. Reaching for my French Press 😀. So sad that Sato left the NBS.
I loved the modern setting, good idea.
as a coffee enjoyer, this is totally accurated
What a delightfully energetic performance!
Such a delightful presentation!
They've BEAN practicing I can tell....☕
Grazie per Bach👏👏🎵
Ei! wie schmeckt der Coffee süße,
Lieblicher als tausend Küsse,
Milder als Muskatenwein.
Coffee, Coffee muss ich haben,
Und wenn jemand mich will laben,

Wunderbar.

„Schenkt mir coffee ein“ translates to „pour me a coffee“ and not „bring me coffee as a gift“. Great performance though!
"So schenkt mir Caffee, so schenkt mir Caffee ein" is actually an untranslatable pun playing with the change of meaning that occurs when adding the extra syllable "ein".😊
So both is correct. "Bring me coffee as a gift, pour me some coffee" is what she's singing.
Please tell me which coffee shop she sings in! Her voice is as good as the finest coffee!
This has meme potential !
Bach just went mainstream lol
👏👏👏
1:38 - Tuning anybody?
Why is it "Coffee" and not "Kaffee"?
for what I understand, it was intentional by Bach to underscore the foreign and exotic character of the beverage.
❤️❤️☕🌷
I slowly get the feeling, that Japanese have some innate affinity for Bach and understand his music better than any Europeans. So many great renditions by them. Is it because their society is more formal and procedural-centric, so to say, to perfectly fit to baroque music?
Why comes Simon Mack to my mind?
Sato: 🤓🤌
At least they showed some reasonable moderation this time although it was conspicuous how lasciviously he wiped those coffee pots. I guess he was portrayed to be alienated at the fact that the object of her lust was the drug and that all she had for him was gratitude for bringing it. Literally _"wtf ?"_ he thought.

on second watch, the waiter looks remarkably like van gogh albeit not ginger
