The fact that these are for phones makes the OM5 the winner for me due to its portability. If I’m shooting something professional I’d use a professional camera and gimbal. Personally I just need something that’s easy to carry, quick and simple to set up.

Just purchased the Smooth 5 today along w/ a Moment 58mm lens. I was asked to shoot & create highlight reels for a HS Football player. I don’t really have $1500+ dollars to purchase a respectable DSLR, so I opted to go for a cheaper setup. After tons of reviews and research, I’m pretty confident this will get the job done. Thank you for all DJI OM5 videos I have learned many things from them. I just bought this gimbal for my travel videos. I'm excited to start using it. Since My hubby and I cruise alot I prefer the small lighter DJI so that I wont have to carry such a big heavy bag.. This is my first gimbal ever and I think its a good one to start with. I do think the Smooth 5 may be better due to the flexibility on the movement but for my starter gimbal I think I will be happy with the DJI. I hope I made the right choice.

You are on point, Otto. I think the full control panel on SM5 makes sense because I don't need to press on the phone screen anymore which makes the footage more stable.

ZHIYUN is better for bigger phones, but it’s bigger and some museums might not let you use it inside (some won’t even allow the OM6, but it goes in where I have been denied with bigger gimbals)
for traveling OM 5 is better quick n simple setup all you need is smoothness of the footage. Smooth 5 is a good but to travel and setup can waste some good footage and looks more intimitading shooting in public.
I feel like people will notice you more with the Smooth 5, not as intimidating as using a full size gimbal, but I agree, OM5 is easier to setup and more travel friendly.

Depending on your phone (if it’s too big the OM4 or 5 might not be ideal). But overall smooth 5 in the current state might be more appealing for mid-advanced users. OM5 if you are a complete beginner
If i may ask.. When you talked about the wheel on the smooth (zoom), you said "Android users are going to like this because.." and what about IOS (iphone) users then? i mean.. the wheel won't work on iphones ? or..? why did you precised "Android users".....
Hi, when it comes to smartphone gimbals Android users are usually left on the bench by some limitations. This wheel works perfectly for them, and for iphones as well (otherwise I would had said it explicitly)

Hi. I own Galaxy S21 ultra and my question is that do I have to run the app on zhiyun to be able to use the Rec/mode buttons and joystick? Or it's always ready to go whenever I connect them.
joystick will always work even if your phone is off. Same for mode button. Record button needs bluetooth to be paired, but I think the S21 lineup will not be able to use it
Well magnetic attachment is convenient no question about it, but that depends! For example I have few drones and I’m very nervous about powerful magnets around my drones!
hello Steve, that's a good point, but for what I've experienced with my own drones, they don't seem to care about the magnets on the gimbal. I guess they are not that "powerful"

hello! thanks for your feedback. I always respond to this question with a simple answer: It depends on your shooting style. Gimbals will always have some limitations for Android devices, there is no perfect gimbal for Android, so it all comes down to the features that each gimbal has to offer. I have a video about the common limitations for Android (search iphone vs android on my channel, it's about the OM5 but still relevant for most brands)
I've been watching your videos on the gimbals and I was just about to make my decision and buy the SMOOTH 5, would you be able to tell me which Gimbal is the best compatible with an android phone? I have the Xiaomi 11t if that helps.
Android will always have some limitations, there is no 60fps and no slow motion. Some other issues are also present depending on the phone (I don't have a Xiaomi to test so I wouldn't know). But assuming you don't care about 60fps or slow motion (you can use them with your native camera app instead of using their app) then it won't be a big problem
Interesting question, how small are we talking about, or should I ask, what's the weight? I would rule out the Q3 almost immediately. Smooth 5 will have a better chance. Also the smooth 5 has an expansion port on the side where you can attach a microphone. I didn't mention that on this video but on the original review video I did

@Jairo Lozano yeah if you look at my Samsung with a super thin case, the clip barely holds it, and this phone is smaller than the Pro Max. Regarding the motors, I'm going to be honest: I've tested this for short periods of time (I don't own the Pro Max) and it worked OK. Not as fluid as with my other iPhone or Samsung. Other reports I've read say that for longer periods it will not hold the weight adequately.

Hi, In my opinion there is no better follow mode, it just depends on what you are trying to achieve. As far as following a ball, I think it makes perfect sense to use Sport mode.

I'm struggling to find lenses and filters for my android Note 10 plus....what filters and lenses are you using with your android and where from and can the smooth 5 handle such a load....
I have used the ones from the brand Sandmarc. Lens is ok, ND filters not so much. For lenses I recommend Moment like this one amzn.to/3tkPh8R or the ones from Polar Pro but I believe they are even more expensive.
Thanks for the clear explanations. I’m an absolute beginner wanting to make videos for fun. Do you think the Smooth 5 is easier for a beginner since most of the functions are directly accessible on the handle? I’d hate having to memorise how many times to push on which buttons for what function.
mmm I kinda feel that having more buttons for more functions is not exactly "beginner friendly". In the long run it will be easier, but not every button works as intended unless you use their "pro" app, and that one is meant for users with more experience. If it's just for fun and you need something simple to use, I would probably select the OM5.
Hello, as you can see on my review, they are different, so it will mostly depends on what would suit your style. I'd start looking at the size and weight for portability. Then at the features themselves.
Nice video, I think I gonna buy the SMOOTH 5, OM5 seems cant carry the iphone 13 pro max, the motor seems is not enough to carry it, so I think it may be more difficult to install a small lens.
OM5 will support the iphone 13 Max, without a case and certainly without any small lens or filters. The SMOOTH 5 will have less trouble handling the weight of the phone, so it seems that it would be a better choice if you want the extra peace of mind
Hello again Jam, if your hands are small maybe the Smooth 5 is not really for you. The OM5 is more compact and easier to carry around, and it's also lighter. You might want to consider that one for you, but always prioritize on your shooting style
I think it was an interesting decision on the part of DJI with the OM5 in regards to battery life. The extra space can be used for selfie stick which is a bonus. The battery life being six hours seems to make sense since the average phone lasts about nine hours before a recharge
I'd say the iphone 13 pro max or newer phones are the only ones that could get remotely close to 9 hours lol those are flagships tho not the average phone. The better argument would be DJI made a gimbal for the average phone that gets just over 6 hours battery life, which is good enough for those users
@@Enoc63 A lot of people who’d be interested in this gimbal are most likely using a pro model iPhone. The average person with the average phone would just settle for the onboard stabilization however I digress, I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the battery life is averaging 12 hours at full use

I never used the Crane 2 (only a few times I think), so I can't really give you a straightforward answer, but the Smooth 5 for a smartphone is pretty good, if that's the price range you are thinking of. The Crane M3 is another great option but more expensive, I'll have a review on my channel in about a week

Hello Dana, the phone will not fall off, I've been using my iPhone 13 as well and Samsung Galaxy S21+ (Same price as the iphone 13 Pro at launch), not only with the OM5 but I used the OM4 a lot (same clip system) and I never had any issues.
Both of them are good. Will depended if you have a heavier phone (then Smooth 5 is better) or if you want an easier to use and more portable gimbal (OM5).
Everybody's saying that the OM5 is more portable, smaller in size and faster to setup - but that's actually only true if you keep this annoying clamp over your phone all the time! Otherwise you will actually have to carry around the gimbal + the clamp separately, which is a terrible idea. Since there is no way I'm going to keep this large clamp over my phone all day, the Smooth 5 is actually the more portable device IMO.
thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion. Even with the clamp not attached to the phone the whole time, the OM5 (in my opinion) remains to be more portable than other gimbals. It's not like the clamp is huge and it will just fit anywhere (front pockets of my jeans will do). Otherwise, sometimes I just leave the clamp attached to the gimbal itself, it will not fall down, but if I do this I won't stick the gimbal inside my pants!
That's a good point that I hadn't thought of. I would only want the clamp on when I'm using the gimbal anyway, so might as well just use the smooth 5. That point might have sold me.
Great review! I understand the zhiyun is more professional but I actually don't mind the limitation of the OM5 because it's so portable. Only downside i'm seeing from the OM5 is the shaky walking footage.
That's a great question! You can leave some room on that arm and it will balance just fine (I didn't have issues since the phone I used has a microphone at the top as well)

The intention of the video is to show what features each has, so users like you or me can decide what's going to fit better on their shooting style or needs. Using heavier payloads with lenses, changing gimbal modes frequently, needing more tilt movements, wanting a more professional feel on your controls, etc and the answer would be the Smooth 5. Want more portability, easier setup (magnetic clamp), don't care too much about zoom controls, etc, them OM5 is a better choice. I usually face the same problem (not about which to buy but which to bring on a trip), and it all comes down to what I feel that I will need the most that particular day or days
Hello Louis, it is on the expensive side, I think it might be just right for what you get but it should had also included the light on the basic version. The Combo package is a bit overpriced (this is in my opinion) for what you get, but I'd expect this gimbal to be cheaper in a few months

Definitely smooth 5 is better than the Osmo 5. Even we shoot with a mobile phone, we use different angles for story telling. Om5 has restricted tilt movements. As smooth 5 is better to do crain shots.

Just wanted to say thanks for the comparison. I've watched a few videos about these two gimbals now and am leaning towards the Dji simply because the setup allows easy access for attachments like a Mic. One other thing is my current gimbal is the Feiyutech vimble 2 and it also has a telescoping rod.
My pleasure! yeah I found out that Feiyu has been making this gimbals with the extension rod for a while. As a matter of fact I found out when they sent me the Vimble 3 to try it out.

yeah, it takes some time to get used to but in most cases, I really don't want to touch the screen

hello! thanks for your feedback. I always respond to this question with a simple answer: It depends on your shooting style. Gimbals will always have some limitations for Android devices, there is no perfect gimbal for Android, so it all comes down to the features that each gimbal has to offer. I have a video about the common limitations for Android (search iphone vs android on my channel, it's about the OM5 but still relevant for most brands)

I've been watching your videos on the gimbals and I was just about to make my decision and buy the SMOOTH 5, would you be able to tell me which Gimbal is the best compatible with an android phone? I have the Xiaomi 11t if that helps.
Android will always have some limitations, there is no 60fps and no slow motion. Some other issues are also present depending on the phone (I don't have a Xiaomi to test so I wouldn't know). But assuming you don't care about 60fps or slow motion (you can use them with your native camera app instead of using their app) then it won't be a big problem
Which gimbal can handle an external small microphone including the wind cover?
Interesting question, how small are we talking about, or should I ask, what's the weight? I would rule out the Q3 almost immediately. Smooth 5 will have a better chance. Also the smooth 5 has an expansion port on the side where you can attach a microphone. I didn't mention that on this video but on the original review video I did

hi! I guess you could but I have no idea of how to do that. Also, if the ride is too bumpy, there is a chance that the gimbal will not be able to compensate too much, I mean, it's going to be better than not having a gimbal, but like I said, it will depend on what you are doing on your bike

yeah, the Smooth 5 is more of a heavy duty gimbal, it should work fine with your phone

@Jairo Lozano yeah if you look at my Samsung with a super thin case, the clip barely holds it, and this phone is smaller than the Pro Max. Regarding the motors, I'm going to be honest: I've tested this for short periods of time (I don't own the Pro Max) and it worked OK. Not as fluid as with my other iPhone or Samsung. Other reports I've read say that for longer periods it will not hold the weight adequately.

Hi, In my opinion there is no better follow mode, it just depends on what you are trying to achieve. As far as following a ball, I think it makes perfect sense to use Sport mode.

I have used the ones from the brand Sandmarc. Lens is ok, ND filters not so much. For lenses I recommend Moment like this one amzn.to/3tkPh8R or the ones from Polar Pro but I believe they are even more expensive.

Thanks for the clear explanations. I’m an absolute beginner wanting to make videos for fun. Do you think the Smooth 5 is easier for a beginner since most of the functions are directly accessible on the handle? I’d hate having to memorise how many times to push on which buttons for what function.
mmm I kinda feel that having more buttons for more functions is not exactly "beginner friendly". In the long run it will be easier, but not every button works as intended unless you use their "pro" app, and that one is meant for users with more experience. If it's just for fun and you need something simple to use, I would probably select the OM5.

Hello, as you can see on my review, they are different, so it will mostly depends on what would suit your style. I'd start looking at the size and weight for portability. Then at the features themselves.

both will be fine for vertical videos with the iPhone 13 Pro. Although, the Smooth 5 will have a larger tilt angle than the limited one on the OM5

Nice video, I think I gonna buy the SMOOTH 5, OM5 seems cant carry the iphone 13 pro max, the motor seems is not enough to carry it, so I think it may be more difficult to install a small lens.
OM5 will support the iphone 13 Max, without a case and certainly without any small lens or filters. The SMOOTH 5 will have less trouble handling the weight of the phone, so it seems that it would be a better choice if you want the extra peace of mind

Hello again Jam, if your hands are small maybe the Smooth 5 is not really for you. The OM5 is more compact and easier to carry around, and it's also lighter. You might want to consider that one for you, but always prioritize on your shooting style

I think it was an interesting decision on the part of DJI with the OM5 in regards to battery life. The extra space can be used for selfie stick which is a bonus. The battery life being six hours seems to make sense since the average phone lasts about nine hours before a recharge

I'd say the iphone 13 pro max or newer phones are the only ones that could get remotely close to 9 hours lol those are flagships tho not the average phone. The better argument would be DJI made a gimbal for the average phone that gets just over 6 hours battery life, which is good enough for those users
@@Enoc63 A lot of people who’d be interested in this gimbal are most likely using a pro model iPhone. The average person with the average phone would just settle for the onboard stabilization however I digress, I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the battery life is averaging 12 hours at full use

I never used the Crane 2 (only a few times I think), so I can't really give you a straightforward answer, but the Smooth 5 for a smartphone is pretty good, if that's the price range you are thinking of. The Crane M3 is another great option but more expensive, I'll have a review on my channel in about a week

Hello Dana, the phone will not fall off, I've been using my iPhone 13 as well and Samsung Galaxy S21+ (Same price as the iphone 13 Pro at launch), not only with the OM5 but I used the OM4 a lot (same clip system) and I never had any issues.

Which gimbal is suitable for real estate videography?
Both of them are good. Will depended if you have a heavier phone (then Smooth 5 is better) or if you want an easier to use and more portable gimbal (OM5).
Everybody's saying that the OM5 is more portable, smaller in size and faster to setup - but that's actually only true if you keep this annoying clamp over your phone all the time! Otherwise you will actually have to carry around the gimbal + the clamp separately, which is a terrible idea.
Since there is no way I'm going to keep this large clamp over my phone all day, the Smooth 5 is actually the more portable device IMO.
thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion. Even with the clamp not attached to the phone the whole time, the OM5 (in my opinion) remains to be more portable than other gimbals. It's not like the clamp is huge and it will just fit anywhere (front pockets of my jeans will do). Otherwise, sometimes I just leave the clamp attached to the gimbal itself, it will not fall down, but if I do this I won't stick the gimbal inside my pants!
That’s one of the reasons I’m kinda leaning towards the Smooth 5. I don’t want to have the clamp on my phone the whole time.
That's a good point that I hadn't thought of. I would only want the clamp on when I'm using the gimbal anyway, so might as well just use the smooth 5. That point might have sold me.
Great review! I understand the zhiyun is more professional but I actually don't mind the limitation of the OM5 because it's so portable. Only downside i'm seeing from the OM5 is the shaky walking footage.

That's a great question! You can leave some room on that arm and it will balance just fine (I didn't have issues since the phone I used has a microphone at the top as well)

Thank you Alejandro! My Main phone is also an Android and I understand why so many people are not sure about which to buy. The intention of the video is to show what features each has, so users like you or me can decide what's going to fit better on their shooting style or needs. Using heavier payloads with lenses, changing gimbal modes frequently, needing more tilt movements, wanting a more professional feel on your controls, etc and the answer would be the Smooth 5. Want more portability, easier setup (magnetic clamp), don't care too much about zoom controls, etc, them OM5 is a better choice.
I usually face the same problem (not about which to buy but which to bring on a trip), and it all comes down to what I feel that I will need the most that particular day or days

Hello Louis, it is on the expensive side, I think it might be just right for what you get but it should had also included the light on the basic version. The Combo package is a bit overpriced (this is in my opinion) for what you get, but I'd expect this gimbal to be cheaper in a few months

Definitely smooth 5 is better than the Osmo 5. Even we shoot with a mobile phone, we use different angles for story telling. Om5 has restricted tilt movements. As smooth 5 is better to do crain shots.

Hello Naty!! Yes it does have a feature called story mode. It’s not as intuitive as the one on the OM5 but it has some templates to choose from

Just wanted to say thanks for the comparison. I've watched a few videos about these two gimbals now and am leaning towards the Dji simply because the setup allows easy access for attachments like a Mic. One other thing is my current gimbal is the Feiyutech vimble 2 and it also has a telescoping rod.
My pleasure! yeah I found out that Feiyu has been making this gimbals with the extension rod for a while. As a matter of fact I found out when they sent me the Vimble 3 to try it out.
