I loved this video! Especially how you said our generation didn't have it easy and how we are really undefined as far as how history views us! We were cool as sh*! and still are! 😅 My kiddos wished they could've lived in their prime during the best time in American cultural history! Natural beauty, masculine shirtless boys, understated fashion, bicycles and boom boxes, intense music with an air of 60s, 70s, and 80s sprinkled in, summer love, freedom and true independence! Yes, those days were hard, but they'll always be the most "real" experience a generation will ever have pre-technology and virtual/social reality! 😎

What a wonderful video -- you're right, Rosemary's Baby is cozy (and a masterpiece) and the woods are as well. Books, yes, always books. When I had my house I always hung laundry out. Fires are cozy. Sniffing clean dog or cat fur is cozy. Lemon meringue pie is cozy (including making it). Jean jackets are cozy. Wellington boots are cozy. Radiators!!

I just love how authentic + original your content + perspectives are. I find very different things cozy but that doesn’t really matter; I think what matters is that you get me to consider things through a different + valuable lens. Loved hearing your cozy triggers. And I always feel enriched after watching one of your videos. I love love love vintage Opium. I think some of my cozy moments are around when someone took care of me while I was unwell (I think because, tho I was deeply loved, my mom, a survivor of poverty + abuse, rarely showed it physically). Other smells that are cozy for me are often connected to movie-watching, trips, and wood because my dad had a wood shop. Also, and this may not be a good thing because they are tied to my addictive tendencies, but some scents connected to food + being high or relaxed. And the smell of a just-extinguished candle because it reminds me of holidays. Thx for your awesome sharings.

Wow! I LOVED this video. You offer a very unique perspective that’s not easy to find on social media these days. I might call these scents and associated experiences “comforting,” rather than “cozy,” but just because I think of “cozy,” as seeking warmth from the cold, like in fall or winter. Whereas “comforting,” seems more all-encompassing. But at any rate, as someone of a similar age to you, all of these scent-memory associations really resonated with me. It makes me want to try or revisit many of these scents. And I’ll add that I find your videos and even voice very comforting. Thank you for sharing ❤.

I've looked for this book for 30 years. I checked it out at the library twice when my kids were little. Even a month ago I searched on Amazon, but I didn't know the title. Now that I know, I ordered it, and it's the book!! Thank you so much, it means a lot.

I’m with you on some of my go-to cozy scent profiles. I especially like warm spicy autumnal and vintage frags. So Opium, Obsession, Youth Dew all hit the mark. Also Obsession for men is great! It’s equally as wearable as the women’s. They’re both pretty unisex imo but where the women’s has more jasmine and that addictively dirty civet note, the men’s is a super smooth cinnamon amber. For an updated spicy frag I love Tom Ford’s Noir Extreme, it’s BEAUTIFUL. The women’s was discontinued but that’s fine because I prefer the men’s -and honestly they smell almost exactly alike.
On the super cheap there’s a Demeter scent called Kitten Fur. Don’t think I’ve seen any notes for that one, but it’s extra comforting. It basically smells like fuzzy warm musk and amber.
I feel like Vanilla scents are what most people would probably call cozy. I prefer non-edible smelling gourmands though. Mercedes Benz Club Black is amazing, as well as Kayali Yum Pistachio, and Choppard Casmir.
Incense is a cozy note I like as well, so Oscar by Oscar de la Renta, Poison, Anaïs Anaïs, and my favorite Shalimar Eau de Cologne. It has to be the Eau de Cologne version, not regular cologne or toilette, or parfum, because the eau de cologne has a prominent leather note that comes off as an ultra transparent powdery citrus and incense-y vanilla scent. It’s light, crisp, and cozy all at once.
Finally the ultimate cozy scents for me would most anything pre-90s vintage, even the old drugstore brands, because they put you in a different time and place. My pajamas, an old movie, a bowl of popcorn, and some long forgotten comfort scent is the penultimate. The other night I watched Rear Window & Sabrina wearing Wind Song by Prince Matchabelli, because it’s something which would have been available at the time. It’s a whole vibe.

For the Jovan, I'd add their Musk oil, its warmer, but not heavy. Still missing original old school Coty Wild Musk...they absolutely ruined it, its nothing but tinted alcohol now. And they dont even make the musk oil anymore.

I love old skool craft ‘how to’ books too, and definitely have more than my fair share in the realm of knitting, gardening & quilting - and find them (& more so the act of doing them) comforting & cozy. I can’t say I have any older perfumes that do this because I didn’t really come into my own ‘perfume life’ until Covid, but my (late) mom wore her “Oscar” (de la Renta) and that smell will always put me in her company when I smell it… I’ve decided I’ll get a small bottle just for that purpose ❤ while on the subject, the smell of her having freshly oiled our teak dining and coffee tables when I was growing up also brings comfort …maybe why I’m so fond of SJP’s Stash🤗 Thanks for sending me down this thought path!👌

Love it - although your “cozy” movies are... 👀😬🤣
I have to roll my eyes whenever these younger people say “it’s so much more expensive today!” - and I think ‘how would you eve know?! You weren’t alive then are just making this up’. I graduated from high school in 1997, making $5/hour. I remember friends getting jobs for the same, and their apartments were $700/month. Today these same apartments are $1,200/month, but starting pay at Dunkin Donuts is $13.50/hour where I am. That makes things STILL more expensive in the 90’s. And groceries weren’t too cheap either. We all had dumpy old cars, we all lived with multiple roommates, we got the furniture and dishes for our apartments at the thrift store. Most young people don’t do any of these things. We also just went without: no cable, we’d rewatch the same few VHS, we wouldn’t go out, we’d hang out at our apartments or go somewhere free (river swimming or the park), we didn’t always have new clothing (our jeans and flannel were ripped because of wear, not fashion). I even remember wearing the same winter coat all through 8th grade and high school. Our level of “consumerism” was no where even near where it is today. After succumbing to hyper consumerism between 25-36, I just stopped. I even gave up my smartphone and went back to a flip phone. And for those that have even noticed, the most I hear is “I wish I could go back to one of those”. In 9 years since I “quit”, and went back to 90’s/early 00’s... we’ve paid off all our debt, brought two babies into the world, I left my job to stay home, and we’ll be paying our house off within 5 years - all on my husband’s teacher salary. Whenever someone seems curious - I just tell them it’s mostly about how much you spend.
    ANYWAY
Sorry for the diary entry - I’m even more passionate about this subject than of perfumes. You have the best fragrance content!

We have a lot in common. I’m especially tickled by the memory of watching the same vhs tapes over and over. I’ve seen When Harry Met Sally hundreds of times for that very reason. I will always love Nicholas Cage because I love Randy from Valley Girl. I think I watched that one almost every night one summer around 1995.

@@MyPerfumeMap Valley Girl!!! Before his teeth had veneers, and the girl was so embarrassed by her parent’s super healthy lifestyle?! I love that one too! I remember we’d always watch Mr.Mom (Michael Keaton) and the North and South miniseries! Then in high school it was Sense and Sensibility (I still know about 90% of the dialogue), and when Titanic came out and I saw the trailer, when everyone else was saying “OMG - Leonardo DiCaprio’s in it!”, I was saying “It’s Kate Winselt!!!” - to which, at the time they all said: “who?!”🤣 Good times. Better times.

I liked how you described your "cozy" and I got a laugh from the two films you said were cozy for you and that's why I enjoy your channel so much. I don't watch much tv but a film genre that I find weird and cozy are old sci fi films that I especially love to watch during the summer months. In the autumn vintage B&W horror films. During the holidays I think it's cozy to have old B&W films on in the background while I bake or decorate the tree. Also to me cozy is like warm sweaters on a cool fall day, or reading a good book on a rainy day, spending the day baking or watching snow falling with a fire going, hanging out in small old coffee shops or browsing old book stores, or snuggling under the covers with a loved one. I agree and think that Opium really captures the essence of warm and cozy for me too - anything soft, warm, spicy, resinous, ambery, vanillic and those with warm gourmand accords feel cozy to me. One the of the coziest fragrances I have is Shalimar, actually any of the Shalimar's except for the Souffles are the epitome of cozy to me. So are L'Heure Bleue, Cuir Beluga and Mitsouko - the warm fuzzy bases of these are just perfect. Others of this type I also love are Kuumba Made Amber Paste which is the perfect woody amber, Andalusian Soul, the OG Obsession, Babycat (or the Paris Corner dupe Rifaaqat), Musc Ravageur, L'Air de Rien, Casmir, Ambre Sultan, AR Golden Sand, etc......
I too think that musks, animalics fall into the cozy sphere. I love Jovan as well as Nemat's Vanilla Musk or their Amber or White Musk oils. Ruth Anne MacKinnon put me on to Wags Egyptian Musk which is lovely. I like that you mentioned that patchouli makes you feel cozy - yes!! I especially love dark and deep patchouli's for that like the Reminisce Patchouli that you mentioned here - it reminds me of wrapping up in a big pashmina shawl. Another favorite of mine is Montale Patchouli Leaves or Jeanne Arthes Patchouli Sumatra which is long dc'd but a terrific warm patchouli. One of my old time favorites that you can't get anymore but I keep a bit for reminiscence is a spicy patchouli from Crabtree & Evelyn Aberdeen Heather. I want to live the life that this fragrance reminds me of :)
And I also love that you mentioned sundried laundry as being cozy. I have wonderful memories of my grandma's house and she used Dreft detergent for diapers, linens, and towels and things and it had a warm, dried lavender aroma that reminds me of staying with her which we did frequently. E&J French Lavender reminds me of that, not a freshie, sharp or aromatic lavender but a warm, soft lavender, also Kate Walsh's Boyfriend came to mind - very cozy fragrances. Love them!

Great video. I have vivid memories of smelling that old school patchouli on relatives of my school friend who had a really cool bohemian family. I realised recently I literally never smell that out and about now... that soily, dirty aromatic patchouli. It was quite a familiar smell even when just sitting next to people on the bus or going to Camden Market here in London. When people talk about patchouli now it smells so different to that.
