BIG CONIFER HEDGE Gets A Hard Cut Back

- Hedge trimming a large Leylandii hedge. As usual with this one, we are cutting back a lot of the growth to stop the hedge creeping out and getting too wide.
We used a Stihl hedge trimmer and a Makita hedge trimmer for this job on this front yard hedge.

I absolutely LOVE this type of videos! I end up coming back over and over course it's almost hypnotic. Great work!
Nice one, watch it as many times as you like 😂👍
@@RJLgardens I definitely will! 😂😁
How hard could it be I say, probably a lot harder than I think. You make it look easy, well done.
Cheers, conifers are not the easiest, if you are slightly off, you can leave unsightly line marks in the hedge. 👍
Perfect, you make it look so easy.
Cheers, I've trimmed enough hedges, so i hope i do by now 😅
watch me, i make it look impossible! and takes all day and looks SO BAD!
What a nice natural privacy barrier!
Beautifully cut hedge!
Thanks 😊
Absolutely fantastic job so perfect well done ❤❤❤❤
Thanks 😊
Yes another single sider fan. Honestly all the people ive worked with who dont get single siders. I cant use doubles. They get such a great cut. Good job man
Too many people sleep on single siders 😅, I hate doing flat hedges without one. They are soo quick and accurate. Cheers mate 👍
@@RJLgardens Looks like it's time to buy that Single side Stihl. I was suspicious for a long time, now I see it does that conifer much better than doublesider. I always hustling big time with Conifers trying to do my best with HL 94 C-E. The length of the blade looks twice as long here.
And you did amazingly sharp cut mate.🍃🍃🍃🍃👍
@hedge_stars_aberdeen
Excellent job
Thank you! Cheers
Nicely done 👍
cheers 👌
Immaculate mate!!
Cheers mate, not perfect, top half needs to thicken up a bit ideally 👍
Really smart job Rob 👍 thanks for sharing. Something for me to aspire to. All the best. Andy
Cheers Andy, You want to stay away from big hedges mate, they are a pain in the ass 😅
@RJLgardens thanks Rob :) I'll remember that mate. Most of the ones i have are around 5ft tall and in small gardens. Cheers
nice work of art ehhhhh
Spectacular hedge, spectacular job! 👍👍👍
Thanks 👍
Perfect looks fantastic
Thanks, Cheers

Cheers Gary, all the best 👍
Wonderful job. Well done ❤
Thank you! 😊
It is satisfying trimming Conifer! I do miss my HS87 Good job Rob looks much better.
I dread doing this one mate 😅. I only really use this 40 inch one now, my smaller 30 incher doesnt get much use since i got the battery one. How come you got rid?
@@RJLgardens Nah i didnt get rid mate, i had my tools stolen, nearly everything. My 87 was pretty much brand new as well. Im more into my battery gear now.
@@thegardeneruk Ah gutted mate, that bloody sucks, hope you're sorted now. Yeh battery is coming along now. 👍
@@RJLgardens yeah all good mate, it’s was end of 22 it happened. Managed to get what I need and carry on 👍🏻
Sieht super aus wie eine grüne Wand 👍 ist aber viel Arbeit nicht so leicht wie es aussieht, Danke für das Video
Thanks. The waste is the biggest pain on jobs like these 😅👍
that super sharp single sider is giving a very tight finish 👌🌲
aye does a fab job mate, makes short work of these large hedges 👍
すごーい!!その器具で一度垣根を滑らせるだけで美しい垣根に大変身!! 彼のテクニック 最強ですね 感心して見ています日本から
Beautiful!!! I wish i could edge like that.
👌
Amazing!!! When saw your vid in the first 5 seconds, I hit subscribe button right away because you the PRO to me IDOL. Keep it up 🔥🔥🔥🤟
Hey, nice one and welcome 👍
Good job ❤❤❤
Thanks 😆
U welcome
My favorite hedge!!! Thanks for taking good care of it. Did you run out of battery to switch back to petrol?
I haven't killed it yet mate 😂. I ran out of both, but it was pretty much petrol big un for the bottom half and little battery trimmer for the top bit. 👍
Bom trabalho !
Cheers 👍
Looks proper nice 👌🏻 one question should hedges be cut one way and then the following year cut from the opposite way? For instance year 1 cut left to right and year two right to left? I have loads of conifer hedges that naturally grow and turn one way and I can only put it down to how I’ve trimmed it the same way each year.
Yeh this hedge has that problem in places which is annoying. Ideally yes cut against the comb to try and stand it back up. Easier said then done on some hedges 😅👍
Wow❤
👌
That's a Soft cut back, it's only leaves, no timber involved.
What type of trimmer are you using ? Does a great job….👍
stihl hs87t 40" single sided hedge trimmer, it cuts great 👌
Where do you get those double shovel hinged things that you pick up the leaves with?
Just search for heavy duty leaf grabbers
Very clean job 👍🏻 would you know do conifers take to relocation? We have about 10 , 12-15 foot bordering a path and would love to keep them to put along the back fence line. Around 20 foot away? Thanks if you have time.
Yes can possibly be moved provided proper techniques used, plenty of advice online RE transplanting. 👍
@@RJLgardens thank you I'll check it out.
Man, that is one big hedge. How long has something that large been growing?
Over 30 years 👍
@@RJLgardens Holy smokes, bullwhinkle! That's quite a while. Thanks for the info. Love the channel.
@@anthonyhargis6855 Hopefully it lasts plenty more years. Thanks, all the best.
@@RJLgardens Right back at you, my friend. 🍻
What kind of tree is it?
I also want to plant it in my house.
How tall are those hedges? You have very good balance. Beautiful job!
Thanks, they are probably around 13ft.
I’m gonna go to him for a hair cut next time
No problem, as long as you like it short 😅
Awesome job mate! Whats the model of that Stihl trimmer you're using?
Cheers mate, is a hs87t with 40 inch blades. 👍
👍👍
👍
Hello Rob I’m just after advice do you know we’re I can find all the hedge trimming laws & regulations for things like nesting season 🐦 ect. I believe there are many factors such as evergreens are ok to trim and so on anything under 20m as long as there are no visible nests , all the best keep up the great work 🌱 💪
You're best to look up the law properly online. You can trim hedges anytime of the year, provided no nesting birds. So if you do, do a thorough inspection prior to any work and use common sense. Stay away from big hedge reductions in the peak season, Very light trimming is generally fine most of the time. Cheers
@@RJLgardens thanks rob. Really enjoy the Chanel my friend 👍 🪴

Looks great. But why do you have to cut off the pretty growth. I like it better before the trim.
Unfortunately the 'pretty looking growth' doesnt stay like that, and the only reason it looked nice and fluffy was because i trimmed it exactly the same last year. If it was left wild, it would be an overgrown mess within a few years. This hedge has to be kept cut tight for access, otherwise it would get too big and would have to come out.
Because that's the point of the video karen
Its not what you like its what the owner is paying him likes
Only the wealthy have that hedge
The titels of this kind of videos sound more and more like from a weird porn category.
What dodgy stuff have you been watching 🤣
No hedge…not a fan of them.
Termine señor Miyagi,
-Ambos lados?
The back was already done on a separate day 👍
Некрасиво стало! Зря он все это обрезал !
Thanks for watching 😀
Excellent job
Thanks 😊
