"Rolling Marijuana that's a cheap vacation" hits so hard. Nights will always be my favorite track. I can listen to Blonde every day and never tire of it.
Small fact: the full album is exactly 60 minutes long. When “Nights” is switching beats, the album is exactly at 30 minutes. It splits the whole album in half. This album has so many details, my favourite album of all time
@@samwweir111 if you’re really interested in deeper meanings behind music (Frank Ocean, Kendrick, Kanye, Tyler) you should definitely checkout Dissect on Spotify Podcast!
the pitch change on Nikes is meant to show Frank's state of mind at a younger age. When the pitch returns to Frank's normal voice, is symbolises his mindset in the present day. The creativity on this album is crazy, you have to give it a couple hundred listens to really understand and appreciate everything that's happening
@@userafpk yes, when I first heard the album I didn't understand it, took me about 300+ plays to get parts of it and notice the insane creativity, texture and context behind it, right now it's like everytime I listen to it I notice something new and genius Frank did, after I checked my Spotify stats I have 937 total plays of the full album😭
I’m so used to blonde at this point so it’s very interesting to see it from this perspective. Makes me re-appreciate how unique it is. I feel like that makes the album even more personal
Self Control is the song I want them to play at my wedding. It’s the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard in my life; so vulnerable, so raw and emotional. If love had a sound I believe it’d be that song. It touches my soul.
its different for me since i am already depressed this sort of takes my depression and guides it sort of makes it easier to deal with like when i put on headphones my depression is flowing in and out of my head and the song
Your dad is so lucky, he really listening to this album for the first time, a lot of ppl(including me) would wish to listen to that album for the first time again, I’m just happy he likes it
seeing you guys vibe to pink + white put a huge smile on my face, i wish i could play this album for the first time all over again. Thank you for sharing , keep up the great work.
weirdly I wasn't blown away on first listen (and my least fave song is Nikes which was the single), I'm not sure what I was expecting but over time it massively grew on me. Bar maybe Nights, not many of the tracks are immediate but it's such a nice grower and never ages.
the whole album just feels so dreamy and somehow nostalgic. i could listen to it everyday and still find new beautiful small details which just makes me appreciate the album more and more
definitely agree w the nostalgic part. this album brings me back to parts of my life that I never even experienced but feel like I did. Like a past life or something Idek. probably makes no sense 😭
Fun fact: the final words in Futura free are ‚how far is a light year?‘ which is 9.4 trillion kilometres long, and the song is exactly 9.4 minutes long
The dad's reaction to blonde is one of the most accurate reactions. I barely think anyone likes blonde off the first listen; it gradually grows on you, until it becomes your number 1
real, my uncle said his favorite song was nights and me personally it was kinda weird but damn did it grow on me. every single song grew on me its such a great album.
isn’t that so weird! frank ocean is just so different in his work and art that it took me years to even think the album sounded good. hilarious and ironic as that is it’s now my top 3 albums ever. funny how that works
Frank Ocean changed my life. I haven’t loved music this much from an individual in my whole life. It’s not just music, it’s a soundtrack to life. An essential artist.
Frank ocean did that to me until I rediscovered The Weeknd. Like beauty behind the madness was my shit since it came out. But when i got back into it and went to kissland I was blown away like what blonde did to me. Then I found trilogy and now The Weeknd is my favorite. Frank my second and Kendrick probably 3
It’s cool that you point out that Frank could have gone down a conventional route. Frank was a ghost writer for people like Bieber and Beyoncé once. He has a good grip on the pop sphere and one of the coolest things about him to me is his ability to take very conventional pop music and twist it into something new and avant-garde.
Watching you guys react to Night - “this is the same song?” - brought tears to my eyes. It reminded me of how I felt when I first listened to Blonde and the person I was then.
Some people would find it silly, but I really admire and love how music makes even the most up-guarded people emotional. Idk it’s a really small detail in life but I love that this tiny little sound can bring tears to our eye, ya know?
I don't find that silly at all, music is just beautiful like that. on my first listen to blonde i was surprised to see myself crying in the middle of white ferrari. music is just such an amazing piece of media that can make you feel emotions you wouldn't ecpect
Those lyrics are so sad lmao how is that a wedding song?! It’s literally about shame and hiding love for someone because of it. The song is a breakup song lmfao
@@paigew6707 right, but it doesn’t have to be that way for everyone. People associate different emotions with songs, regardless of their “true underlying meaning”
I never would have thought when clicking on this video that it would leave such an impact on me. My dad passed away 11 years ago now when I was just 20 and I never really got to have an adult relationship with him. This is a sort of glimpse at what I missed out on, and for just a moment it allows me to put myself in that place, experiencing new things together and having discourse about them. So thanks for your candor and openness to the experience to both of you.
My dad also passed away 3 years ago. I am 17 now. Videos like this alsways let a hole in me that I dont know how to fill. I guess I will never overcome this feeling. But in a way these videos are also a little therapeutic if that makes any sense. Have a good one
What Frank did with this album hoes beyond the art. He did something nobody had done in the music industry, that I know of at least. This guy managed to take years to make an album with Universal's money. Then turns into a video album called Endless. The next day his contract ended and he didn't resign. He then took the album Blond and release it as an iTunes exclusive and makes Apple pay him for it, obviously. He screwed Universal over so bad but he technically gave them a last album. He convinced them it was. They weren't expecting him to release another album a few days later. He got Universal and Apple essentially pay for the same album. Genius. Fuck the music industry. I love him for that alone.
a lil fun fact: in futura free the last line is “how far is a light year?” a light year is 9.4 trillion kilometers, futura free is exactly 9.4 minutes long...
That build towards the transition in Nights adds so much tension and it makes the listener super uncomfortable and the final snap is such a huge relief it’s like a spiritual experience
I first heard it on acid lmaooo my whole body got chills, his voice was gritty and tired sounding that went with the lyrics, and the instrumentals so complex. The switch up, I had to grab onto something
When your dad freaked out by Andre 3000 I just laughed. He doesn't even know the hype he has within the community. So from someone whose not attuned with Hip-Hip that's really fascinating.
Andre is ART! anything he touhes is great, I love the recent DONDA feature he gave kanye, just for the ANDRE verse! ( if only he gave one, just one solo album!) no hate to bigboi, but I clearly favor andre
i was almost jealous of your dad listening to the album for the first time, but seeing his reaction to it made me feel like i was reliving that experience through him, i really enjoyed this
the amount of creative effort that went into self control and night is insane. we need more music that requires like 10 listens to really get and appreciate.
it's incredible how your dad's first reaction to Pink+White is the influence of Stevie Wonder not knowing probably Franks biggest idols is Stevie even using a sample of his on Close to you
Pretty Sweet is so underrated in my opinion. I love the chaotic opening into this releasing/freeing feeling afterwards, and then it picks back up again. To me, I've always thought of it as a representation of the highs and lows of life, but that's just my interpretation! Also, you guys should cover more Frank in the future! I would love to see Nostalgia, Ultra; Channel Orange; and Endless covered. Love and peace to you both
Unironically one of my favorites on the album and I love how you can really see his influences on the track while still sounding unique. I did still have a good laugh at the "this the song you played for the ho's?" bit because that's pretty damn accurate.
The fact that this man’s father can sit there, grasp music on first listen and understand the emotion and thought and genius that goes into it is crazy. Great video as always guys!! Also: Why haven’t people mentioned channel Orange to them as much as Blonde? Like I too believe Blonde is superior and one of the best albums ever, but channel Orange isn’t too far behind!
@@RK-ig8gc I would agree it's underrated in the sense that it's appreciated for the way it sounds in the ears of average music consumers, but there are so many layers that audiophiles can appreciate that are packed into the album also (sonically / lyrically).
Fun fact: -Beyonce is actually a backup singer on the song Pink + White -Kendrick had a verse on Nights, you can find a snippet online somewhere -Kanye West has a contribution to the song white ferrari, u can hear him say "Love" at 2:51
There’s so many aspects that make this channel enjoyable. It recreates the feelings of when we all first listened to these albums. Also the father-son relationship you two have is comforting to be a part of. Beautiful channel, I love where it’s headed!
I remember the day this album first came out. I was a junior in high school. I just got my first car. A 2005 Ford Mustang convertible was my first car. I had the windows open, it was cold outside, I was blaring the album from the beginning. Pink + White turned on while I was on Hayden road, I was bopping my head to the music and some guy pulled up in the lane next to me smiling and asked “is that the new Frank album?”. Such a perfect moment. We were both jamming in traffic to Pink + White for a short 30 secs. This album absolutely obliterates me. It reminds me of my first love; everything was perfect during those days. Convertibles, cool weather, mental and physical health good, go to work and then hangout with the girl I loved and drive home bumping this album at 2 am with the top down, repeat. God this album makes me feel so good and bad, best album.
When I die, bury me while White Ferrari is playing, cause that ending just brings an overwhelming presence and emotion of just peacefulness, like staring at the sky on a sunny, clear day just smiling, knowing that everything's going alright in your life at that moment, or staring at the night sky, surrounded by stars, just reflecting
That’s the vibe you get from the end of White Ferrari? I get a “lying in your bed in the dark while it rains outside, tears rolling down your face, filled with an overwhelming sense of loneliness” vibe. It’s my go to sad song lol
same, it gives me a sense of nostalgia but in a "losing way" i got a love-hate relationship with white ferrari and his cover of strawberry fields, they are amazing but i cant listen or else i cry for minutes its crazy
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. It wasn’t initially, I don’t think I even made it all the way through upon first listen. But I kept going back to it and slowly each song clicked into place. This album never stops giving, with each new listen you find 10 more things to appreciate about each song and as they become more familiar you can really appreciate their beauty.
Perfectly described, kept hearing the odd song here and there and liked it but didn't fully appreciate it and then eventually the whole thing just sounds great in 1 go
This album brings me back to my college days. Almost makes me cry. My life was so perfect. My girlfriend at the time was perfect. School was perfect. Friends were perfect. Just life was so great and I didn’t even know it. The whole video threw me back to a certain night and it’s just sparks happiness. Thanks for being part of my life Mr. Ocean!
My dad used to always shit on me for the music I listen to. Made me feel as if the music wasn’t good enough, or that i wasn’t because he never wanted to try to listen with me. It’s nice to see that your dad is open to discovering new sounds, opening his time to you too. I Hope your channel blows up and wish y’all the best.
I feel the same. I’m always embarrassed to play my music around my family or friends bc I was always judged about it growing up but I just gotta get to a point where I don’t care.
yo same! growing up, my dad would always say my music (rap) was crap and that rock was the real shit. then i learned how amazing rap classics are - doesn't matter about swearing and shit like that, the concepts, sounds, ideas/storytelling is profound and is some of the best music. thats just my example with rap - but yea its just a superiority/snobby thing to say some music is just crap, i no longer share that idea
Exactly. It's like classical music. Your regular pop songs becomes boring and repetitive when you hear it to often. But Frank Ocean is so full of complexitiy and beauty. If you listen, new layers will open up eventually.
Self control hits me in my core deep. Some songs hurt but it is supposed to hurt he gave us his mind, his feelings, his everything he is a master. Seigfried is my number 1 on this album.
I know you said you aren’t a huge Frank Ocean fan, but consider reacting to Channel Orange down the line. Another great R&B album and it will certainly get views and get subscribers excited.
It’s so interesting to see someone listen to an album I’ve played over 100 times, for the first time. Wish I could go back and just feel all of that again. To this day this album just gives me chills and takes me to another place.
Channel Orange might have been a smoother introduction to Frank Ocean with it sounding just as good but a whole lot more conventional, but nevertheless, i think Blonde is bound to grow on ur dad if he does listen to it a few more times (which I'm sure he will)
This album is one of my all time favorites, i clicked on this thinking I’ll skip through and see this dads reaction but i sat here for 40 minutes feeling like I listened to it for the first time with him. I love His reactions.
every song in this album sounds like an incomplete song in the most beautiful way possible, idk how to explain it. it just sounds like fractions of the most nostalgic feelings.
One of, if not the most important album ever to me. I was in a difficult place mentally when it came out and happened to go on a 5 day exercise canoeing down a river in the remote Swedish wilderness devoid of any other people. Every morning I would wake up earlier than all the others and watch the sunrise listening to the album in its entirety. Musical therapy
What an incredible way to first experience this album. I can't even imagine the bliss it must have been at times. I'm sure much of it was painful, but no doubt all of it was beautiful. I'm glad you had that experience and that you're here. ❤️
The crazy thing about this album is that, aside from the skits, you can say any of the songs off Blonde is your favorite, and no one can tell you otherwise. Every single track paints the picture of what Frank Ocean sought out to create in this project- honestly it's not far off to say that Blonde is a top 10 album of all time
If I had to sum it up: it sounds like a very personal album and like he is paying tribute to people that were in and out , or are currently still in his life; and he's also experimenting musically between a minimalist and maximalist approach but leveraging his strengths which is his vocals, and putting a heavy emphasis on lyrics; and then you can very much hear the gospel, R & B, and psychedelic influences.
I like to think that on the song “nikes” frank ocean lets the autotune play to let us wait a bit longer to finally hear his voice, and when he does come back it’s just perfect
Thats how I've always felt about Nikes. Frank fans had been waiting like 4 years to hear new music, and it felt like a grandiose reveal at the end of Nikes when his voice came in finally. It was super awesome the day it dropped and definitely had me extremely excited to hear the rest of the album.
Agree with you, BUT technically Vocals in the First part are pitch shifted by the formant (no autotune) and you can hear some autotune going on only in the second part
Such a beautifully, sad, nostalgic album for me. My life changed so drastically in 2016 when this came out. I was 18 and had moved out of the state I had been living in all my life, and experienced such a blissful new college experience while this came out. I was growing, hurting, and loving others very hard and this album holds a ton of meaning to me
There are multiple dualitys in this album. It's chronologicaly created starting with when he was young to when he is older. Which is why In the beginning his voice is pitched up. The first half of the album is the day and the second half is the night. You really have to listen to the album as one complete thing instead of separate songs. The dissect podcast completely breaks this album apart. There's so much to this album. It's literally my favorite album of all-time.
It’s not that deep 😂 Nikes was the first song he released from the album to give people a taste after a long hiatus, but he wanted to mess with people who have been waiting for something from him so he made them hear a new song and at the same time wait to hear his voice even longer just teasing them. I’ve seen a lot of comments saying the same thing about age? Must have come from the same podcast? If you need d*ck I got you? Pour up for ASAP? Said she need a ring like Carmelo? Must be on that white like othello? Woo fucking buzzin? Younger? What a year before the album? I mean if you care to elaborate on how he is younger? Other than a high pitch… I’m open minded to see that but that’s a stretch for me. The subject matter doesn’t scream “younger” to me.
@@peanutbutterswelly5529 i would say the album is about growing in age and growing apart from someone you’ve loved since a “child”. This album feels like the end of a high school fling before u go to college.
@@peanutbutterswelly5529 have you heard the podcast? You should start there honestly. The lyrics in Nikes is not very mature and that's not the only song his voice is pitched up on. The lyrics are based off a time in his life specifically in the Nikes song.
Please do a 'Dad Revisitng albums' soon! Would love to see him coming back some weeks later and sharing how he feels listening to it in front of the camera. Don't know if it is just me but the albums I love the most grew on me with time.
I know you guys won’t see this, but to comment on “needing several listens” to get into this album, you all touched on why that is several times. The album is unpredictable, and the brain releases endorphins to reward itself for pattern recognition. So basically, no endorphins on the first listen, because the brain is almost penalizing itself for not knowing where anything’s going. After several listens, though, your brain not only releases the endorphins for recognizing the patterns, but it gives an extra boost to you for knowing the patterns of something so abstract. Next thing you know, you have one of the most popular albums of all time. Everyone’s brains patting themselves on the back for feeling like they understand something on a deeper level than the average joe could.
Also, love the channel, guys. It fills the void that’s left by my own father brushing off all the music that I love. I was built by the music he loves, so it would be cool to see him reciprocate it in this way. You guys are great! Thanks for the awesome content! ❤️
this is genuinely one of the best things ive ever watched. my first listen to this was back when i didnt have as much musical maturity towards the more experimental side of it and didn't like it much. with time this became an album i am blown away by and would die to listen to this for the first time, seeing your dad go through those emotions made my night.
The outro of white Ferrari is the best, and most important piece of music I've heard for my life. It actually changed how I see and hear music forever. It perfectly encapsulates life in so, so many ways. It's super depressing but super hopeful at the same time. It gives a feeling no other piece of art has ever delivered. Not that I know of at least. When I die, bury me to that one folks. Great video!
Personally, I missed out on sharing my interests and hobbies with my parents, so watching these videos not only make me happy just watching your connection but its also is a reminder for me to be more invested in my kid's lives in the future. Thank you for that and keep up the great videos!
Not the biggest rap/rnb fan, but this is my second favorite album of all time only behind in rainbows by Radiohead. Happy to see you guys doing this one.
Not sure how far back Connor’s music tastes go, but it would be cool if Kevin occasionally brought in an album for Connor to react to also I’d even listen to a track by track review of an album if you guys wanna talk about any older stuff that you’ve already both heard.
It's crazy how this album came out in 2016, I listened to it non-stop for probably a year till I got a bit tired of it. He dropped singles after that and I loved those as well, but overall I didn't listen to frank as often as i did when i was younger. I recently secured a blonde vinyl copy that dropped on his site and decided to revisit the album + endless. I am now once again on a frank binge as I realize this person made something so timeless and conceptual, that even this dad recognized influences/samples. Someone who has never heard his stuff before. Frank ocean really dropped one of the greatest albums ever made. It's so impactful and beautifully crafted in a way that it could really strike the listeners ears in the most profound and emotional way. Thank you so much frank for what you blessed us with. I'm very grateful that you are a part of music and art.
Greatest album of the new millennium. That’s not even an exaggeration. But, yeah, it takes a good 3 listens for it to connect. I’ve been listening to Blond since the day it released and I’m still hearing new things in it.
this is an album I really wish I could show to my dad. he passed away in 2012, and watching these videos is really bittersweet to me bc I see the way you guys enjoy these albums together and I wish I could experience that again with my dad. love to yall ❤ It's truly beautiful to see you bond over music like this
"This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the other (masculine) side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout." - copyed from another video but i love this comment
Blonde is the only albums I can vividly remember listening to for the first time. Every time I listen to it, it transforms me and I'm back on that midnight bus driving home from NYC. Night surrounded me as Frank's voice filled the space around me. it felt like all that existed at the moment was him and this album.
Ok dad deserves to hear channel orange! He went through the entire experience of all the pitch changes on blond he deserves franks pure beautiful vocals and what started it all on channel orange 🥺🧡
This album came out around the time my first girlfriend cheated on me. It spoke to me in such a higher level than anything else I've ever listened to. Realizing that I will always love her for the rest of my life... but most importantly, the acceptance that I had to find with everything. From heartbreak to learning how to love myself again, this album saved me in a way, and it made me really feel and appreciate the effect that music has. Self Control is undoubtedly the most important song in the album for me, the rest is just perfect in my eyes as well. Anyways, thanks for the reaction. Love this channel and cheers!
Went through a terrible breakup right when this came out too man. It was hard for me to listen to it at all for a while. Now I can look back and be grateful that this album helped me through those rough times. Hope you're doing better now.
A very similar thing happened to me and i had this album on repeat during the time. I really struggle listening to it now because it just brings everything back up. Back to a time where i was relatively undamaged and relatively positive. Such a good album.
watching him hear nights for the first time gave me full body chills, like i was hearing it for the first time again. such an earth shattering track, love it too much
I’m really enjoying these videos. They bring up a lot of nostalgic feelings of the hours spent listening to these albums, with friends or alone. I remember the huge hype for this one in particular, the endless video, it was a legendary moment. It’s also cool to see an older gentleman being open to try music that’s both modern and a little more out there, without immediately shunning it for being different. Thanks guys.
I was going through a rough time when this album dropped. I was sad all the time and nothing fixed it. This album did Almost 8 years later, I’m in a great place with the love of my life and my daughter. Listening to this album now makes me so happy. Thank you frank
i love his reaction to self control. i remember my first time listening it to it, i felt like i was floating i felt so much emotion both happy and sad with the lyrics resonating so much and the blend of the guitar and the vocals at the end of the song. The whole album is such a masterpiece with the way the songs are put in order to the blend in his voice and instruments but self control will always be my favorite song on the album it carries so many memories that flood in every time i listen to it :’)
His albums, especially this one, really makes u feel like you’re apart of it and melting in to the music and feeling the emotions that frank thought of when he wrote these tracks.
I love the way dad talks about listening to the music with his eyes closed. I never thought of listening to music like that. The way I feel the music that way is so much different and it’s like nothing I’ve ever experienced so thank you dad!
The simplicity in the backing instruments really allows for his voice and the lyrics to sound more grand yet raw at the same time. It's different but incredible.
@@anons000 I agree, S/T is a more "easy" listening, and For Emma is a piece of art, but pretty pretty emotional and you kinda need to be in the right spot to really digest it
He gives euphoria. The way he makes people feel so intrigued and understood at the same time. He makes people FEEL. But also, listen. No artist has made me feel the way he does. He music sounds as if you layed down and let your thoughts go. There is also this familiarity like something you knew in another universe. For example : white Ferrari , every time I listen to it makes me feel like I experience that certain moment (the song) in another lifetime. THATS A TRUE MUSICIAN
I would recommend Nostalgia, ULTRA. It has more familiar sampling and less experimentation with vocals and production. It quite literally saved my life and always brings back mixed feelings for me, most of which are good! Channel Orange is also a good one if you plan to continue through his discography. This album definitely grows on you with each listen, and seems to touch a lot of people when they're at their lowest. It's an emotional support album for everyone I know who has also listened to it. So It definitely means a lot to so many. Frank Ocean means a lot to me, and I am admittingly sensitive when it comes to him. I appreciate your reaction and your dad's willingness to listen to all kinds of music with an open mind.
The thing about Frank Ocean is he always been different in terms of his musical direction. He could've just go with the normal RNB direction, the guaranted-succes "verse-chorus-bridge-repeat" like everyone else did, but he didnt. He knows exactly how to play with the instrumental parts, his voice plays, the effects and stuff which make every each of his track different. Also the simplicity of not putting too much efforts on his vocal part tho he had a very good voice but keeping up with a good instrumental line at the back to make the song even more interesting, not just the vocal part. He's an absolute genius.
you and your dad seem to have a great relationship! being able to share a song or album is in itself part of the beauty of music, and it’s great that you are able to share it with someone who is obviously such an important part of your life. thank you for sharing this experience with us! blonde is such an incredibly beautiful album :)
Only 2 songs in and I love how much your dad appreciates small details. Tearing up at this and wishing I could show my dad music like I did 10 years ago. Amazing stuff. Keep it up forever. 💕
The beat switch in "Nights" actually marks the exact half-point of the album (30 min in), essentially dividing up the album into two parts. To me, the first part of the album signifies the exploration of his identity along with the theme of falling love. The change in this song can mark the change in Frank's mindset as it transitions into his deeper, darker thoughts riddled with frustration, desperation, and heartbreak. Anyway, this album will always be my favorite album of all-time and Frank Ocean has forever left a mark on the industry with Blonde.
A few years ago during a sad lonely New Years Eve I did the "start the album at this moment and Nights switch is exactly at midnight". Wild emotional experience, extremely bad idea, do not recommend when drunk.
Totally agree. The first half is a youthfulness (blond identify or childlike) and then the second half is coming of age and darker for sure (loss of blondness)
without fail, this album gives me a feeling no other record can every single time i listen to it. even just hearing the snippets with your commentaries is hitting the same way the whole record did when i first put it into my ears. this album is quite literally a soundtrack to beautiful, emotionally potent life experiences. even without paying attention to the lyrics, if you let the music absorb you, you get transported to a different world. my first experience with blonde was in this seaside town late at night during the summer ending my senior year of high school. my girlfriend at the time was upset with me, so i drove up to this place i had newly developed a love for because of its gorgeous scenery. i spontaneously let this record play despite not expecting to enjoy it in the slightest, and it changed my life permanently. it allowed me to find this equilibrium of stimulation in the nuances of me driving alone, swallowed by darkness, right next to the atlantic, so unsure of where my life was going to go. and i think thats why its such a trip whenever i replay it, because im able to tap into the somber yet lovely emotions of change and youthful confusion. ever since then i treat myself to solo sessions walking around places that captivate me, allowing blonde to consume me for the hundredth time over, envisioning the soundscape in the back of my mind. this record is a perfect balance of order/power/control and absurdity/disorder/chaos. it walks with those things so accurately that every second is engaging and strikes a chord in your heart, much like a film score about your own unique humanity.
One of the best albums of all time. The outro hits especially hard considering Frank's brother was tragically lost following the release. I can't imagine how that must feel.
I remember first listening to this album, I was like "yeah this is p good" but as I've grown older, it definitely started hitting more. I'm kinda going through my first real heartbreak right now and yeah, this album is painful to get through now that I can really relate to what Frank is saying, and some of these songs now being deeply associated with the person who broke my heart (Nikes was my least favorite song at first, but it was his favorite song off the album and now it makes me wanna burst into tears immediately). This is a timeless album, and I'm excited to see how it'll affect me years from now.

Genius.

Exactly! That's why I love that high pitch intro. When he finally arrives, it feels special.
Thats how I've always felt about Nikes. Frank fans had been waiting like 4 years to hear new music, and it felt like a grandiose reveal at the end of Nikes when his voice came in finally. It was super awesome the day it dropped and definitely had me extremely excited to hear the rest of the album.
Agree with you, BUT technically Vocals in the First part are pitch shifted by the formant (no autotune) and you can hear some autotune going on only in the second part
it was for the fans after waiting so long it was like a release

It’s not that deep 😂
Nikes was the first song he released from the album to give people a taste after a long hiatus, but he wanted to mess with people who have been waiting for something from him so he made them hear a new song and at the same time wait to hear his voice even longer just teasing them.

@@peanutbutterswelly5529 have you heard the podcast? You should start there honestly. The lyrics in Nikes is not very mature and that's not the only song his voice is pitched up on. The lyrics are based off a time in his life specifically in the Nikes song.

THIS
I know you guys won’t see this, but to comment on “needing several listens” to get into this album, you all touched on why that is several times.

Exactly this
You said you're not a big rap fan and literally has a Tyler, The Creator pfp. Not that you can't do that, Just pointing out lmao
@@crawlback you don’t have to be the biggest rap fan to like a funny meme photo of a rapper
@@user-ve9tu5rv6e that's not a funny meme photo, thats a very serious image
Not sure how far back Connor’s music tastes go, but it would be cool if Kevin occasionally brought in an album for Connor to react to also
I’d even listen to a track by track review of an album if you guys wanna talk about any older stuff that you’ve already both heard.
i second this
Rush
Not sure the greatest but the most unique and personal album I've ever heard. It's so beautiful and perfect
I like it but I’m in the camp it’s too mellow sometimes that it gets boring .
I would say also that it is the best, even edging out Kid A.
this is an album I really wish I could show to my dad. he passed away in 2012, and watching these videos is really bittersweet to me bc I see the way you guys enjoy these albums together and I wish I could experience that again with my dad. love to yall ❤ It's truly beautiful to see you bond over music like this
I feel that so much….woulda loved to put my old man on game!
That's great thx
it's nice in theory, but does the second half of the album have a shift in tone? I've never felt that it does
@@calum-b-482 you haven’t? It becomes much more abstract and the atmosphere is wayyy different imo
I always wondered why I loved the first part of the album so much
@@acurlyboi2944 how do those things link to masculinity/feminity though?
Blonde is the only albums I can vividly remember listening to for the first time. Every time I listen to it, it transforms me and I'm back on that midnight bus driving home from NYC. Night surrounded me as Frank's voice filled the space around me. it felt like all that existed at the moment was him and this album.
Ok dad deserves to hear channel orange! He went through the entire experience of all the pitch changes on blond he deserves franks pure beautiful vocals and what started it all on channel orange 🥺🧡
don’t think I’ve ever been more hyped for a youtube video
This album came out around the time my first girlfriend cheated on me. It spoke to me in such a higher level than anything else I've ever listened to. Realizing that I will always love her for the rest of my life... but most importantly, the acceptance that I had to find with everything. From heartbreak to learning how to love myself again, this album saved me in a way, and it made me really feel and appreciate the effect that music has. Self Control is undoubtedly the most important song in the album for me, the rest is just perfect in my eyes as well.
Anyways, thanks for the reaction. Love this channel and cheers!
ayo just wanted to say that I had the exact same experience man. hope you're doing well
She’s wasn’t for you king 👑 you’ll easily find better. Fuck her lmao
I feel you man. Like in the lyrics to white Ferrari “I care for you still and I will, forever. That was my part of the deal…”
I’ve been waiting for this one. So excited to watch.
I think it’s awesome how your dad knows that just because it doesn’t seem familiar, that doesn’t mean it’s bad.
I was going through a rough time when this album dropped. I was sad all the time and nothing fixed it. This album did
Almost 8 years later, I’m in a great place with the love of my life and my daughter.
Listening to this album now makes me so happy. Thank you frank
man you got a daughter and yo name @impusecdog4979
i’m still lost and miserable even after those 8 years. i’m glad things have worked out for you bruh.
@@sovka8394 you will get there my g. Just keep fighting
i love his reaction to self control. i remember my first time listening it to it, i felt like i was floating i felt so much emotion both happy and sad with the lyrics resonating so much and the blend of the guitar and the vocals at the end of the song. The whole album is such a masterpiece with the way the songs are put in order to the blend in his voice and instruments but self control will always be my favorite song on the album it carries so many memories that flood in every time i listen to it :’)
That line in self control, “I came to visit because you see me like a ufo, that’s like never” is so under appreciated.
It seriously is
it’s my favorite part of the song.
Same literally. Not choosing favorite but I got a tattoo cause of self control and specifically for that line.
really hits
What does it mean?

YESSSSSSSIIIIIRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love doing this, especially in bed. Sometimes ill fall sleep mid way ahahahah
The simplicity in the backing instruments really allows for his voice and the lyrics to sound more grand yet raw at the same time. It's different but incredible.
22, A Million by Bon Iver? There’s another avant-garde album that would spark some interesting reactions and opinions
Self title is a better album
for emma forever ago is a better starting point imo
@@anons000 I agree, S/T is a more "easy" listening, and For Emma is a piece of art, but pretty pretty emotional and you kinda need to be in the right spot to really digest it
22 is the best album for the goal of showing Dad something new and fresh and different
22AM seems like would be pretty tough for first listens especially for virgin ears like the dad, but its legit my top 1 album of all time though
I appreciate your reaction and your dad's willingness to listen to all kinds of music with an open mind.
agreed, my favourite album
I listen to Dissect too
Totally agree.
I can't imagine how that must feel.
he passed away in 2020, not right after blonde released
@@Shmee69 still sad regardless
I remember first listening to this album, I was like "yeah this is p good" but as I've grown older, it definitely started hitting more. I'm kinda going through my first real heartbreak right now and yeah, this album is painful to get through now that I can really relate to what Frank is saying, and some of these songs now being deeply associated with the person who broke my heart (Nikes was my least favorite song at first, but it was his favorite song off the album and now it makes me wanna burst into tears immediately). This is a timeless album, and I'm excited to see how it'll affect me years from now.
