Honorable mention to Jan, who was the underdog in 10 of his last 14 fights, and went 10-3-1 in that period, which included getting the championship off the man everybody though beat Jon Jones, defending against a then undefeated Izzy and getting a draw against the surging Ankalaev who looked like the future of the division.
Ironically, 2 of those 3 loses came at the rare time he was a favorite, against Glover and Alex.

I always remember Frankie Edgar was on an old Mtv show called True Life which usually focused on people with odd or weird situations. For example, one kid said he was straight but did gay porn for money, just to give you an idea for how outlandish Mtv thought MMA was at that time. They showed him driving like an hour to and from the gym, and he had that fire in him back then. Not much longer, he started getting more famous and it just stuck with me that I got to see an all time great long before they made it big. Kinda cool.

I seriously love this idea for a list. It's one I kind of wanted to see for a bit however I envisioned it being called "Top 10 Times Title Reigns were Legitamized"
Cause one of the reocurring things I've noticed watching these videos is the amount of times fighters won a Title but were buried or not given respect for the win for one reason or another. However they later on legitamize themselves with either impressive performances or doing something no one expected. Aljo, Frankie & Amanda were ones that definitely came to mind.

Aljo absolutely does not deserve to be on this list, let alone at #4. He had a two split decisions with almost no damage, and TJ had a broken shoulder. It's since come out that TJ should have never been medically cleared for that fight in the first place.

I clicked on this video just because I couldn't believe the title + Aljo in the thumbnail. He arguably lost to Cejudo coming out of retirement after years, and Aljo seemed to have a decent size advantage in that fight. Sometimes "MMA math" goes wrong. I think it's because Nunes lost to Cat and Ronda submitted Cat in the first round with ease. The other half is, of course, marketing.
While Holly Holm exposed Ronda's underdeveloped striking, Holm losing the belt to Miesha Tate, a former Strikeforce champion who herself couldn't beat Ronda on her worst day, solidified Nunes' initial underdog image against both, Ronda and Miesha.
Funniest thing about this is that grappling-heavy Miesha Tate lost to Nunes via submission, something that Amanda wasn't exactly known for, but neither woman was the grappling ace of Ronda's caliber.

I still doubt Dricus has what it takes to defeat Strickland. The next time would be the first time.

Figured Nunes would come in at the top--perennial contender for pound for pound GOAT, no argument, and they did her so dirty with the marketing for the Rousey fight.

Am I the only one sitting here confused when he said Frankie Edgar was a relatively unknown at the time? Like no he absolutely wasn't, he had won six of his seven fights in the UFC and was already looking like the next guy in that division

Honestly, Edwards caught lightning in a bottle, he had a 3 fight streak of the greatest luck of any fighter I've ever seen, caught the head kick KO (PURE LUCK), he wins the rematch (Usman didn't show up plain and simple) and then he 'fights' Covington in one of the absolute most forgettable WW title fights in UFC history and then Belal did what the whole world hoped he would and took that belt off that lack luster, boring to watch, snoozefest of a fighter in Edwards. Hopefully we don't have to see him in the octagon anymore, I literally either go take a few dabs or I eff around on my phone whenever Edwards is up to fight. Point is, Edwards got lucky, it was a great lucky streak I'll give him that, but that's all it was, sometimes people get lucky more than once, but it's kinda like the curse of 13, Edwards lost his belt there, Weidman lost his 0 at his 13th fight, Rousey had 13 straight before Holm kicked some sportsmanship into her before Nunes beat the HOT, DOG SH** out of that unsportsmanlike turd of a woman and sent her packing too afraid to even come to a UFC event because she said she'll be booed out of the arena, (what does she expect, she's a garbage athlete, got lucky for her skill set and for the time in history in which she existed and even then couldn't show the slighest bit of sportsmanship, flipped off Tate after tapping her was the absolute trashiest thing she could do) which she absolutely deserves. She even cried in an interview talking about that LMAO, sometimes the universe gives us little gifts in the form of humility.
