    preheating the battery using your home charger is actually quite beneficial in terms of efficiency too, if you ask me. And I don’t even live in the coldest place on earth (Denmark, Scandinavia). When the outside temperature drops below 0 degrees celsius, I use the "trick" showed by you, Mathias, last winter. Setting a departure timer and keeping the car plugged in to my home charger, increases the temperature of the battery to 10 degrees celsius, which improves the efficiency somewhat. And this method doesn’t use energy from the HV battery. One thing I don’t understand about this method, though, is why my car consequently is ready around 1 hour earlier than I’ve programmed it to be. I set it to be ready 7.50 AM, but it is usually done charging around 6.50 AM. This means that the temperature of the battery drops from 10 degrees celsius to 8,5 degrees Celsius when it is around 0 degrees outside. But it still a great method, I think. My Enyaq is a model year 2025 with software version 5.2.

      Correct, I'm using in the same way at winter, all time charge mode are "at departure" but I have problem that car is ready one hour after set :) , I think there is problem with daylight saving time :( reported to Skoda. At summer I charge as soon as I get home, because it is better to cool down battery till morning, and additional benefit solar power when the sun is still in the sky :)

      @ our problem is almost the same, as my car is ready one our earlier than the time of departure, I have set in the charging plan. I leave home at 7.50AM, but the car is ready at 6.50AM. Hmm … maybe a quick fix would be to set the timer for departure at 8.50AM? Though I am a big fan of such kind of workarounds. How cold is it in your country in winter? In Denmark we have from -10 to +5 degrees Celsius.

      @ yes, I use like that, one hour before so car is ready on right time...for now that is solution :(
      I'm at the seaside, Istria, Croatia, so we don't have any severe winters, down to 1 at the lowest this winter...but still, it makes perfect sense to me, let it be ready and warm when I leave.

    My 2020 e-208, the other week I had left it plugged in although I was at 100%. I set the Aircon to come on 30 mins before leaving home for a long journey and for the first time ever it said 200 mile range. Now of course I never got that range in winter, but it is interesting to see and something I will try again in spring/summer.
    I rarely drive in winter so don't need to do it again.

    Preheating would be amazing. I drive over 100 km to work each day and the first 10kw disappear very fast, which I reckon is the car using energy to heat the battery. It's very noticable and I think a preheating option could accommodate some of this. I would love some more range in the winter time.

      Unless temperatures where you live are far below zero, it’s more likely that heating the interior increases consumption? As Matthias explained the Enyaq only heats the battery by itself if it is way below zero degrees.

    • @colinwiseman
      @colinwiseman 11 дней назад +1

      Have you tried keeping it plugged in and have the Aircon run for a longer period, and it might heat the battery somewhat?

      @@colinwiseman Well I preheat the cabin before taking off, but I don't know if the aircon is used...

    Interesting test. So bottom line it’s not worth investing battery power on preheating it for a cold weather trip. Or building the software for it. Cariad was right by changing the software to limit preheating at below zero temperatures.
    The only thing they have to do is develop software to preheat the battery what its really for. Fast charging for 1st generation Enyaqs. Simple enough don’t you think?

    I appreciate you going to all the trouble to investigate this but life is too short. I think if they could allow us the option on 1st Gen cars to behave as they use to or as they do now would make sense. And if they could do that on software 2.4 then they could allow that on the 2nd generation cars. Basically pre heat like on 2.4 or opt out if you know you're on a short trip. Doing it via the sat nav is the most sensible choice.

      @electrifiedspeicher absolutely, sorry I meant for us normal everyday drivers. For us it is very helpful that you do all this detailed investigation so that we don't need to.

    Setting a departure time, keeping the charger plugged in, will the battery be pre-heated (if so, to what temp) or will it only heat the interior of the car?

    • @electrifiedspeicher
      @electrifiedspeicher  4 дня назад +1

      It will but only when certain conditions are met. Depending on the model of the ENYAQ it will heat the battery starting below 7 degrees celsius and heating up to 12 (ENYAQ with SW4/5) or only when below -2° and up to 0° (SW3). However I can't guarantee that these values are correct but those are the ones told to me by Skoda.

      @electrifiedspeicher Great, thank you! Here in North of Sweden, cold weather is something we live with and getting the most of my 85x-25 is important for me. Great videos as always!

    Hi. I drive an Enyaq 2024 with Sw 4.0 in Norway. We have cold winters, but with readings from the Car scanner with OBD, the battery rarely gets colder than -1 to -2 degrees. When does the heat pump turn on during normal driving? Is the heat pump only in use when preheating before charging is selected?

    • @electrifiedspeicher
      @electrifiedspeicher  8 дней назад

      The ENYAQ tries to prevent from letting the battery get too cold but it seems that the data I have about this is wrong as the values do not match the real world. When exactly the ENYAQ will use the heat pump and when it will use the normal heaters is something I don't know as it is hard to find out with OBD data. I would say the heat pump is as soon as possible in use and not only for preheating for charging as the ENYAQ will also use the heat pump to heat up the interior.

    A simple solution that needs just a few lines of code in software, therefore it’s completely 100% impossible that we will ever see that in a VW until they have completely switched over to the Rivian platform. So sad how Cariad leadership actively wants to destroy the brand.

  • @Sabejno

    I dont care who is responsible from the VW AG. It's the last thing I should care as customer. I get the car from Skoda, Skoda must deliver. The end. I don't give a f**k if some external company from India or Ingolstatd have to develop something like preheating (which is already there). I am asking Skoda to do that.

    • @electrifiedspeicher
      @electrifiedspeicher  10 дней назад +1

      I totally understand that. The only thing I wanted to say is that Skoda would already have delivered the function if they would be able to do so but they can't. In the end you're right: You bought a Skoda and so they need to deliver no matter what's behind the scene. I just wanted to shed some light into the situation.

    • @Sabejno
      @Sabejno 9 дней назад

      @@electrifiedspeicher You don't know if they will deliver it or not. Don't jump on Zellmer's promises or stories about the bright future or their attempts to fix something. It's always the same lies and promises-"We'll be looking at it," "It will be done," or "We see it's important and we know what must be done."
      You and I saw it in Boleslav back in 2024 when we argued with the guy from the Battery Department. They know it's there, and they know it can be done with some effort. There simply isn't a need to do it. New cars are being sold, old cars are still with their first owners (or lost somewhere in the secondary market), and many crucial things were fixed with ME 4.x and ME 5.x. They will manage the PR disaster, and once the cars are out of warranty, they will show us a middle finger.
      The same happened with the Octavia, Superb, and Kodiaq in the past.
