Before you disassemble the faucet handle (the part you take out the "screw) you should first place a rag over the drain, so if you drop the screw it will not go into the drain. Otherwise, you may have to call the plumber to retrieve the screw. LOL.

I actually just completed this. With the right tools and parts it took me less than one hour.
Few prices of advice for beginners like myself:
    1. The part he’s uses in this video is a Moen 1222. Got mine at Home Depot but I believe Amazon has some as well.
    2. The Moen 1222 cartridge comes with the silicone so no need to buy a separate one.
    3. I had to remove the large circle part from mine. It was attached with caulking and a foam behind the circle piece. All you need to do in order to remove it is was a scrapper or a knife to remove the caulking. After that, you can just unscrew it but this step is only needed if you are unable to access the pin just by removing the first few parts before you have to remove the pin. Happy to provide more advice for anyone that may need it.

Ok so, I just had to replace my cartridge in my Moen tub faucet. I had the Moen 1222 type cartridge. Luckily this video was exactly what I needed. HOWEVER, it was not as easy as the video showed. I got the cartridge about 1/3 of the way out, and CRACK! The cartridge broke right off! I had to chip the rest of it out carefully. That took about 2 hours. Once I got that taken care of, I followed the installation from the rest of the video and it was a breeze.
NOTE!!! Make sure that once you have the cartridge in and the retaining clip in place, turn the water on so you know where the off is before you put all the other pieces back on. I did not do that, and when I turned the water on, with the handle in the off position, the tub was running full force. Good luck everyone.

@@ThePyrotopia I used needle nose pliers and a small screwdriver. Carefully carefully so as not to damage the seat of the faucet. Little by little I broke the pieces off and pulled them out until I got to the rubber seal. Once you tear out the old seal, it should collapse in on itself and come out easy after that.
Case in point, use whatever tools you can to help. Good luck

Many thanks to this video. I followed it to replace the Moen 1222 cartdridge for my shower faucet successfully. My only suggestion is that the video should show in more details how to reinstal the retaining clip: It is a bit tricky to insert the cartridge in a precise position so that the retaining clip can slip into the "neck" of the cartridge.

    Plumber here:
All I can say is good luck finding a replacement cartridge! That is assuming you can get the original cartridge out in the first place, which is not always easy.
Basically there are about 10 thousand different cartridges out there, and home depot carries maybe 10 of them....and many of the cartridges look extremely similar but have one TINY difference from yours and won't fit as a result.
When a customer calls about a leaking tub spout, I tell them I'm almost certainly going to open up the wall and replace the entire shower valve because cartridge hunting is a wild goose chase and it will take less time for a shower valve replacement than a cartridge replacement. If the customer doesn't like that, I give them another option:
Find me the exact replacement cartridge and I will replace it for the price of a service call.

    • @Swi2thMummbles

      @@Swi2thMummbles
      Good question
From my experience it's rare that opening the face plate will provide enough space to actually change the shower valve. Always of course remove the face plate first to see if it's possible, but it probably won't be.

    • @dmark2639
      @dmark2639 Год назад

@@chrish2495 Basically, it's easier and cheaper (because less labor) for a plumber to replace the whole matched assembly of mixing valves and cartidge than to spend time searching for the exact cartridge your particular setup needs. If you want to save money, you can spend your time finding an exact replacement cartridge (same brand, same part number) and either replace it yourself or let the plumber replace the cartridge with the one you sourced.

I don't think the site listed the right part to replace. instead it shows optional which, i think most household would have already like wrench teflon. otherwise its nice to see what is inside the after screwing the switch
