    In this tutorial I show you how to fix a leaky Moen bathtub faucet.
    Last week my daughter told me their bathtub faucet was leaking pretty bad, so instead of calling a plumber I did all the research and fixed it myself for under $50. This video shows you exactly what I did. It works tons better now and there are no drips at all!
    Here is a link to the cartridge I replaced in the video.

    If you are having a hard time getting the cartridge out here's a link to the cartridge puller I mentioned in the video.

    Actually thanks for posting this video, I just performed this myself in Canada. The parts were $ 60.00 at Home Hardware, but they also made me aware of the fact that these cartridges can be replaced for free for the life I own Moen. They even loaned me the better removal tool (sign out) and the job was done in less than 10 minutes. Thanks for posting this, it really helped me to get the courage to do it myself.

    Great tutorial. I have the same set up and my shower head began leaking 5 years after remodel. Picked up Moen part 1222 at Home Depot this morning and it took me 45 mins to complete the job. Hardest part was extracting old part; due to hard water here in Orange County, CA. Used tooth brush to clean up before inserting new part. Worked great. Thanks again for the step by step. Plumbers charge $250 for part and labor. Take you time and it can be done DIY.

    That Allen wrench is 7/64. Another issue I ran into, when I changed mine a couple years ago, I got an aftermarket cartridge, Danco, I think. Trying to save a couple bucks. After installing it, I had a serious water hammer situation. It worked OK, but when you turned the water off you could hear the water hammer throughout the house. I then purchased a genuine Moen cartridge and problem solved. Perfect. Do yourself a favor and get a Moen replacement cartridge.

I replaced the acrylic handle with this metal Moen 100657 and it works, except at the Closed/Off position, the handle can be wiggled left to right by a couple degrees, not firmly fixed. What did I miss, if you know?

    @RussOlsenVideo dude you are a friggin lifesaver. my Bathtub faucet broke last night (kept running water no matter what direction knob was turned)
    I was having anxiety thinking of how much a plumber would cost. but I calmed down turned my water valve off and followed your instructions to a T (after buying a new cartridge)..
    The only thing I had to figure out on my own was the position to leave my stem at. I think the position in your video (with the stem ridge at 12clock) is for ppl who want to use the knob left and right. i use mine in just one position (turning counterclockwise from off > cold > hot).. so I had to turn the stem at 6 oclock.
    otherwise this is a great video. only cost me 39.99 for a new Moen cartridge at Lowes

    • @mysterybat35
      @mysterybat35 7 лет назад

      also a TIP for those having a hard time getting the cartridge out. I had to spray a little WD40 inside and screwing the little stem screw halfway into the stem . I used some vice scripts to pull on the screw which allowed me to pull it out after about 5 minutes of tugging.. but u gotta be careful not to bend the screw while pulling. pull straight back and out. dont go up and down with it or u will bend the screw

    Any reason why my leak would have gotten slightly worse after cartridge replacement? I followed multiple videos and instructions just fine, my new cartridge is in fact pushed in all the way as my retainer clip seats back in nicely. But what was a minor drip is now a more steady light stream. What could have happened? Nothing leads me to believe I could have damaged anything in the process either.
