Hi everyone!
As many of you may have noticed, we, unfortunately, weren’t able to release Dream BBQ in December 2022 as originally anticipated. This postponement was made due to the extensive amount of art and programming that the team has been undertaking in order to make the game as polished as possible.
Like some of you may have seen through the previews we shared on Patreon last year, this project became more ambitious than it was initially supposed to be. We believe this is for the best and hope to deliver a completely new and exciting ENA experience.
Despite setbacks in our schedule, we have some really exciting and unexpected collaborations on the way. We hope you look forward to this and more upon the game’s release this year.

I like how this is basically normal Ena's "everything is both total nonsense but you can also easily imagine it making narrative sense for SOMETHING" but cranked up to 11 and also made into like. a GORGEOUS piece of art.

To be fair, though the ENA shorts are purposefully absurdist, I’ve had this theory for a while that ENA takes place in a post-apocalyptic reality where, though the physical world has been destroyed, the digital world remains - reigned by the remnants of humanity’s digital age, an overwhelming, absurdist, surrealist, capitalistic, and parodist jumble of memes, vapor-wave, and eBay auctions.

Interesting that the Ena with the hole in their stomach is the most human-like we’ve ever seen her. Her face and arms look fleshy, her eyes are more realistic, and her hair is behaving like how actual hair would. Very interesting

I think there's a theory going around that there's more than one Ena, and my friend theorize that the Ena we follow is a corrupted version of one that has multiple personalities in one quote/unquote body.

i honestly love that they don't give us a release date, it means that they won't have as much stress when working on the game which is DETRIMENTAL because it's a freaking creative marvel that everybody will probably be influenced by.
YEARS of development instead of 1-2 maximum as initially expected. It's obvious Joel is quite the ambitious person because even 2 ants 1 president took a hecking long time because of how good it is and episodes had to be split into 2 parts to make working on them more bearable.

@@enavoid True yeah… unfortunately nothing too experimental can seem to last on television these days. Especially in terms of animation. Big companies are afraid of taking creative risks and usually prefer to keep animated shows and cartoons on the safe side to give it a broader appeal. In my opinion, a lot of modern cartoons feel less visually and conceptually creative because of this. That’s what is so special about indie animation and indie projects, nearly anything can pass and thrive in a mostly unmonitored online environment; especially if it is unique, beautiful, and quality.
(Not to say all modern cartoons are bad, I understand that people enjoy different things and there’s nothing wrong with simple slice-of-life animated content).

I HAVE A THEORY
Earlier (ENA's New Voices) we were shown two sides of ENA: Meanie and Salesperson. We also already know about ENA's two original sides: Depressive and Optimistic. Currently last episode (ENA - Power of Potluck) was a prequel to the first three episodes, because we saw Moony's original appearance (round) and ENA's development of her Depressive side. I believe that the further dynamics of the narrative will lead us into the tragic past of ENA.
Doesn't her sides/personalities remind you of anything? Meanie, Salesperson, Depressed, Optimistic... These are the stages of acceptance.

At the end of Temptation Stairway, we saw ENA's full acceptance of something... What is it in ENA's past that is causing her to be on a path of acceptance? Perhaps we will learn more about this in the DREAM BBQ.

Considering we’re shown three different ENAs and temptation stairway proves ENA exists as a template(species in a way) rather than a singular entity, I think the three cards are for the different ENAs with the little pictures representing different things, each card is an entity speaking to *a* ENA
0:07 Ena: the worker, “I see lack of conviction in your mind”
Mouth-this ENA doesn’t talk back and that’s ‘good’, they’re not supposed to talk back
Fish-this ENA is obedient, they move in step with everyone else, they’re just another fish in the school because they lack conviction to act for themself
Clock camel(clamel? Cack?)-this ENA values time as something moving consistently yet impossible for them to track(the hands are same length, it could be 2:15 just as much as it could be 3:10)
Mail-this ENA runs errands, and they do so with the conviction of a non-convicted person

Walking bag-this ENA still does their job running errands, but they do so with the non-conviction of a convicted person
Faceless-this ENA has broken the status quo for an ENA, they have lost their premade identity as an ENA
Web-perhaps this ENA feels trapped? The system(web) has them forced to maintain office-like order(paperclip) or else be cut(knives) from the system
Megaphone-unlike the previous ENA, this one will talk back, isn’t blindly obedient and will make themself recognized as an individual

I believe this is referring to the corrupted ENA, it could also be for the second ENA, either way, someone isn’t liked by the entity running the system and they’re wanted dead, either C-ENA for being faulty or U-ENA for breaking from the status quo, but I’m certain W-ENA would be the one tasked with the hit. But in a long shot, it could be for W-ENA, perhaps they became individualized and so are being punished by the system
perhaps it’s not three ENAs, but three STATES of an ENA, W-ENA defies and becomes U-ENA before finally turning into C-ENA, being killed at the end by a new fresh ENA

What gives me the most anticipation is the fact the even Ena shows signs of genuine fear. It's no longer just smiles and distorted laughs. It feels realer than ever, and this new sizzling sight will be the gateway to a whole new world. And I can't wait

I honestly don’t care if the game has been delayed for a bit, this trailer has already proved to me how amazing it’s going to be and how fucking amazing it already is. It seems like one of those things where you can’t just watch someone else go through the game and you have to experience for yourself so you don’t miss anything and you really experience the speciality it has.

I feel like the salesmen side of ENA is the obedient side and the meanie side is the disobedient side. Because in most cases in the trailer when she’s doing her job it’s on the sales men side. But it looks like meanie is more present when it comes to her real emotions. Like when she’s on the ground her whole face is meanie while only her arm is salesman.
I wanted to expand on this, I think when the salesmen side takes over, Ena looks corrupted and robotic, representing how people feel when they actually work, they feel soulless and robotic, and Ena shows that. And Meanie Ena looks depressed and hopeless. Meaning if you don't choose that side of "Sales Person" you feel stuck and sad. I also noticed that Ena doesn't show herself in her natural state, only when she's Infront of the who I think is her boss in the beginning.
@@Unknown-dm3cs My theroy is that the bosses in The Dream BBQ are corrupt, and rude to everyone, but since the bosses always get the right hand in the real world (it's true.) the place is overall just corrupt, and a sorta hostile place to work at when there are no costumers nearby. Which probably explains why,
1. ENA clearly hates her job, and calls it "stupid"
2. Coarl Glasses really wants to leave, and find "another job opportunity"
Froggy seems unbothered about the job so far, than just telling ENA "to get to work" and to "stop daydreaming"
But what if the reason ENA is often zoning out is because the bosses at The Dream BBQ overworks their workers to an ungodly extent?
As I said, i believe that the bosses will be really strict and corrupt with us as a player, I feel like if we make the littlest mistake, it will get under the bosses skin, and he or she could give us a punishment for it, that being extreme / forced overtime.
Another thing that could support this is,
The cracked form that ENA has, is named, "stressed or overworked form"
So what if that's the result or effect of Dream BBQ ENA going through extreme overtime?
To the point where she gets no sleep or insomnia, and when she can finally sleep, she sadly, hast to work....
Overall, I think your theroy is spot on so far!

I really really love the fact that the song in the trailer is called "anemoia." It means "Nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known." I have a grand feeling that this project is going to be absolutely amazing and gorgeous. I can't wait!!!

Part of what I loved about the Ena shorts was the fact that they were liking watching someone play a weird and obscure first person point and click. So happy that I get a chance to actually play that weird and obscure game myself.
I really love the mix of 3D and 2D as well as the grainy/glitchy animation, reddish hue and the constant tone change and use of many different instruments of the music it’s chaotic and I don’t understand what’s happening but yet it fits
It's hard to convey just how much I /adore/ this series. ENA's universe, although unpredictable and abstract as it may be, feels like home to me.

Alright, I'm going to theorize:
The game takes place in ENAs future, but parts of the trailer take place in her past. My theory is this whole journey, from the beginning of the journey, takes place in some type of electric purgatory. ENA is dead, mabye at a young age, as seen with gray ENA, but before she fully passed away, someone (mabye that fork-gun monster) uploaded her consciousness to a digital purgatory made for her. Moony, along with everyone else, is just an A.I. The game shows grown-up ENA, possibly learning the truth of her existence, all being led by her mother, the lady we get sucked into in the during Temptation Stairway. Those quotes we see in the trailer were from people who mourn her and think she should be buried. And, as seen in Temptation Stairway, there are more ENAs, people who failed to survive this digital reality. This could be why ENA has so many personalities. It's the souls of the first ENAs sharing her body, and gray ENA is her true form.
The backroom labyrinth callback literally gave me chills. So glad to see all the effort you and the team put into the game in this trailer. This makes me very excited for the game's release

Legitimately some of the best animation I have ever seen. The fact that this was done by *9* people is astounding. Seeing how the team has improved from previous projects (which were already impressive) is so cool, especially as someone who can't even begin to draw like that. Very excited for how this project turns out.

This looks amazing. What I love is that I can’t even tell what the narrative is or what its supposed to be, and seeing ENA in quite literally the most terrible spots makes me curious. It seems so dark and interesting, and seeing ENA in a not pixelated style for once is strange as it is satisfying. Cannot wait to see how this turns out.

I'm always amazed at how many creative character designs the ENA team come up with. A rowboat envelope? A clock camel? Coral glasses? The giant monster with the ribcage/harp thing? The spatula goddess? How the hell do you come up with all of this?

Edit: Honestly even though we see so little gameplay I just imagine it being like walking into a painting that is secretly hiding an more paintings, where while you may not do much it’s still really cool to be able to interact with things
well, we DO see BBQ Ena with a gun, so while it's probably some drawn-out comedy bit of "getting gun and immediately losing gun", there might be actual shooting in the game.
Out of everything to come out from the ENA series, this has to be some of the most breathtaking stuff that I have ever seen. Well done to Joel G and the Dream BBQ team!!

About that "dreadful sense of nostalgia" thing, the title of the song that plays in the trailer is "Anemoia." which means "Nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known." doesn't really add anything I just think its kinda funny...

One thing I’ve noticed in this trailer is an emphasis on arms/hands
Creatures with tons of arms, ena missing arms, the giant sky beast grasping for something, ena’s hands are always present in the game UI, the cursor is a hand, an ocean of a red fluid with arms extending out of it, Ena desperately crawling and trying to grab something with her hands, the shadow puppets made of morphing hands turning into a gun
I’m not necessarily sure it can mean anything but it’s just something I found neat in this amazing trailer (also sidenote I realized in purge event preview, ena is missing her white arm and her face is green which is something only armless ena has)
*edit: I’ve also realized there’s a lot of war imagery such as the guns, ena’s outift resembling a soldier almost, the rain made of bullets, and the scene of holding the bullseye marked mannequin)
Also don’t forget that part with a billion keyboards. That requires hands too, and don’t forget the hand gesture ena did at the end at 1:40. Also did you see the characters? Most of them kind of use hand signals- like that wizard.
All in a day to (presumably) deliver bbq

It's hard to tell the scope of the game from this, and the relatively short development time may indicate a very quick, dense experience, which would still be incredible, but if Joel and the team were able to make even a moderately lengthy indie here, we may be looking at the kind of game that sits rent free in everyone's mind for a decade.
It was stated to be a short game, but that was all the way back in 2021. Game dev takes lots of time though, so I’m not sure how much the intended scope has changed since then

@@carrotfishofishal I have a feeling the green one with cracks is similar to the blue/yellow Ena's sad side. In the video where Joel shared a small animation for one of the game's tracks. "The Purge Event", you can see that the Ena's face is the same green as this one, which makes me think that they are the same
