- 99.9% OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS OBVIOUS ELECTRICIAN HACK!
On our trip out to Ohio Power Tool we got a chance to meet Will from Southwire Electrician Tools and Equipment, he showed us the SIMpull non-conductive fish tape (FTSP45-125NCT) and also he shared a obvious hack for electricians that 99.9% of people don't know about!

Ok you FINALLY got me. Only because you said 99.9% instead of the usual 99%. So far I've always been that one out 100 that already knew. I guess I'm not the one out of 1,000 though today. For the first half of the video I was thinking, that's gonna fail inside large pipe. I was very happy you asked him about it though.
Oh cool, I've never been pinned before.
Welcome to the 0.01% of people that get pinned in our comments! 🤣🤣

I agree great tip
That easy when there's no loose coupling lol
Lol I could’ve pushed string around that demo
Jaja
The problem isn't getting it through 360 deg bends back to back, it's after 50 ft and after the bends go in opposite directions.
And when you actually have a glued PVC joint. This is continuous conduit with no joints. The easiest to pull
today i was using steel fish tape , and it would always get stuck at the second 90° bend, but the test you did was a short run, i would like to know how it would do on a longer run like 40-50ft with two 90° bends
If you have trouble try lube it helps on tuff jobs and tubs stuffed with wire
All of these bends were turning in the same direction... Fish tape gets stuck from bends that are opposite from each other
@@panda0039 that's why its a good idea to add condolette whenever you can if your run changes directions. Even though code says you don't need a pull point until 360 degrees of total bends, it is a handy way to pull wire easier.
@@panda0039 ..Yes, exactly. He did say, "You'll never have a bend like THIS!" I'd have to agree!
Stuffed with wires too lol
Will is the man. he shined bright in this video. you guys need to hire him full time!
Hi Guys!!! Hey Vince, is that swirled conduit a good test for fish tape? That conduit went around clockwise the whole length, which might be easier to run fish tape thru instead of having the conduit going one way, then U-turn the other way, then 90 degrees up, then U-turn down, etc. Maybe that would be a tougher test?
100%. The tape is able to push against the pipe so will stay rigid the whole time. A better and more realistic demo would be 4-5 lengths of pipes with opposing bends, long straight runs, joins and put 3-6 cables in it. Something we'd actually see
I bet I can push my old steel fish tape throw their test !
@@aceseightsazhvacsparkyandg8138 I bet you could push a bit single wire through their test
@@PhatChris221 lol maybe with solid copper not stranded
We got one of these at my job last year. It worked great in the test they had set up. They didn't give us a size for using it. Ours got mangled in an under ground temp conduit. It bound up pushing through then pinched itself trying to pull it out. The pinch point made it hard to use in long runs with multiple bends. I'm gonna have to get a new head and definitely try that head truck next time. Would hate to have to restrict to to short runs in small conduit.
The kid in me always loves things that glow in the dark.
@bsantillie
I had said that I was not gonna buy anymore Klein tools and less they were from Super Rod product, and then Klein came out with their high viz. glow-in-the-dark tools. Just take my money!
thanks to Will from southwire for showing that fish tape and other southwire products...great job bro 👍
kingofthecrease30 nothing but good things! Will had all kinds of goodies! He took my money....
Have used many fish tapes/poles/etc....in my time & have tried them all. I do like the new “tech” of the tapes that have come out in the past few years. Makes things a little easier on the job👍🏻. Can remember first job site was on using a steel fish tape on a 20-30 ft run w/ some 90s & I got the thing stuck, & had to cut it off.....not fun to do; as you lose time.
It’s pretty cool when you CAN cut a tape & use a field repair kit to get up & running again in no time!
Cheers✌🏻
How do you get a fish tape stuck in a 30 foot run?
Southwire the Super Come Up company. Made in America and the customer support is amazing
I’m gonna need a demonstration of that whiffle ball hack.
I use that Southwire fish tape at work. It’s comparable to the Klein Tools fiberglass fish tape and the neon color helps with locating it in a dark ceiling. I actually prefer it over the stiff Klein fiberglass fish tape.
There’s a fish tape and fishing joke here somewhere and I can’t quite put the bobber stop on it.
22 year union sparky. IBEW 340. Gonna have the shop order one tomorrow. Thanks for the video!
👍🏻
Sound like a bunch of Snake Oil Salesman from the 1800s
.....Hmmmm, I knew this trick. Never seen a wiffle ball used but instead of a wiffle ball, I have seen those blue rubber raquet balls used with a hole drilled through it (they're smaller than a wiffle ball and they weigh a little more and can maneuver through large conduit better , but you gotta tape it up real good ...so ....same trick just a different kind of ball. .but on really large conduit we use a vacuum cleaner (on reverse) to blow a little parachute attached to twine through the conduit. Then use the twine to pull in a "pull rope"
I don't do alotta conduit work but I have found that 1/2" pex works well on short runs. Easier to push thru obstacles(insulation, blocking, etc) n it doesn't coil up as easy as a steel fish
Wait what?

I always like learning about electrician work even though I don't do it. Can't afford to have an eleckchicken come when I rewire my garage, so I have a lot to learn!
WAA WAA boo hoo, ya sound like a plumber. Our shit is their/ your bread 🍞 and butter.
Of course its going to go through all those bends right there.....look how close they all are together, MY QUESTION Is will it or how hard would it be to push through 3 90's all three with-in 235' and somewhere in that run there is a 20° kick 90 and an offset (30°'s on both bends)..........350° total all spread out in a distance of 235'
Those bends are in the same direction. Do 3-4 bends in opposite directions.
Good to see you from the Ohio Trip! Good video!
at 3:31 this video is skewed, The pipe is solid emt, use PVC and add a coupler or a 90 sweep and see what happens.
Nice short vid Vince. I've never used a fish tape since I'm not an electrician however, I'm curious how it compares with the Milwaukee and Klein polyester fish tapes? Just asking. Cheers!
@William Logan
For pulling wire through conduit this is the best tape ever (why is it Gotta be Doodoo brown?)! It is way better and more flexible than my Klein nylon tape. I have no experience with Milwaukee fish tapes, but with that said normally when you’re the electrician and you’re working in low light or no light situations so would you like to Milwaukee black or would you like the Southwire glow in the dark?
The two fish tapes that are on me all the time or a Klein 25 foot pull tape that has laser edged numbers in it every foot so that I know how far down or up I have fished, and a 50 foot regular Klein fish tape. I keep the long tapes on the van for really bad days.
I have multiple Klein tapes, Thomas & Belts tape and Greenlee tape (first tape it’s supposed to have 50 feet in it but it only really has about 16😳).
The Klein one is really great, I've used it and I'll says it's better than this one but they seem to be made from different material.
Awesome video! That was some good stuff. Southwire continues to impress! Will, good people right there!
This one works okay, but I tried using it for pipe underground where I thought this would work wonders, long story short it didn’t. But what did work was the metal fish tape, who would of thought. This tape is still worth having in your toolkit though.
I have that fish tape and when you do long distance runs it’s just not rigid enough to keep pushing it through without it bending and kinking , honestly pretty disappointed in it
Try it on some undrerground pvc or ridgid conduit filled with dirt and rocks thats where this will fold and steel fishtapes reign supreme
Yea bro steel all the way. The only use for non conductive.is when you already have conductors in there
Try 3 90 degrees bends in 150 foot run with 2 box offsets and see if it pushes through
Dude, used this piece on a long run, not even a bunch of bends...got jammed every time. Was wankery kid. No joke, my partner and I just went and got a metal one out of the job box and finished our pulls....wasnt feeling at all mayne.
Fiberglass fish tapes are great for fishing flex.
Oh to be part of .1%! 😜
I do pool lights and had about eight bends in .5 inch do you think it would work with that? The builder put the light niche in a decorative spa wall that is a waterfall that was a half circle where it was install and the light was at the very bottom. I'm constantly running into these issues. Bigger conduits are easy how about .5 inch?
VCG is their anyway that you could do a contest between makita's 18v hammer drill, and Milwaukee 18v hammer drill? I need to see specs, and serial numbers; because I want the top of the line, and to tell the difference between the two. Thankyou.
Try that facetape on long distance then having 3 bends.. example 5 meters distance per bend..
that's awesome I do building maintenance looks awesome klien steel fish tape now I going to replace it with this one love it makes it easy thanks guys
Cool tool
Will has been holding out on us, comes by the shop all the time and never shared that hack. VGC gets it out of them!
🤣🤣 you know it!!
High VIS Green … Sick Dude !!!
It's different if the bends are close to where you are pushing the fish tape from. But when you go through a 90 and an offset within the first 5' but then a 90 that is 20' away. That's where I would see a problem.
Wonder if they have something that would work for running electrical in automotive applications
I'm the 99% that don't know a fish tape glows in the dark 😊😊😊
😂👍
So my question is what tape is better Milwaukee 100 or Southwire Tools ?
Great video!
Ping pong ball on the end of the fishtape works wonderfully 👍🏼
So I'm not understanding the wiffle ball or ping pong. How does it work?
Slip it in the fish tape head so it won’t hang up in the bigger pipe
Ever had a poly break on you pulling from the top of a ladder? The knot idea seems like a real back breaker
Things are useless over 150 ft with old underground. Poly sucksssss the big oneee
I wonder how it would work going through a 3 bend saddle and a back to back 90
If you bend something that dumb, then you deserve to suffer come pulling time. 😅
Good to know 👍🙏♥️
Cool
The only thing i would be worried about would be when you are pulling the wire. with metal tape it has the rigidity to push back into the spool by itself without pulling the handle, which is good when you have a tight pull and have to pull on the wire itself not just the handle. on this one it seems that you would have to push the handle every time to get it to go into the spool or else it would just make a loop on the outside. idk, maybe i am wrong but it just seem like it would be that way.
I own this fish tape and it's not bad at all. The head is kind of big but not a bad fish tape.
How much does it cost I'm already sold now I gotta convince the better 3/4s it's needed
I have dealt with many 360° bends in the field. Especially working in older plants. Iv had to send new wire through existing bull shit work
Nice
I'm one of the 1% too.. good video
A better test would have included some offsets, and saddles
"But wait! There's more!"
Let's see that work with corner connections.
Nice tool
These things are great, but do start to wear out after brushing up against the sharp edges of the box or connector. Nonetheless it’s just a few frays but is fully operational and a bada** 👍🏽
Thanks. Now I have a wiffle ball stuck in my conduit run.
Blow it out with compressed air.
I wonder if we in the truck tech industry can use this for running wiring threw truck & trailer body’s
That’s an awesome hack
Put some cable in it then see if it can push through
The electricians, like me, will love this!😍
Boom OHIO👍
Not getting hung up...but that is a VERY short and impractical run. A longer run with 3 90s...maybe then it gets hung up?
i like these demo's but the truth is take 100ft run with 2 90's on one end and 2 90's on the end of the 100ft run and add in wire to almost max fill and then see if it'll push ...that's a daily occurrence for most electricians.
Great video vince
Thanks Antonio!!
I would like to see it on half inch pipe with 2 90s and a couple kicks about 80 ft.
How about putting some junctions with joins like in the real world
He took one pipe and put 90s in it. How about try with pvc and put 4 90 degree elbows on it
I don't usually comment on things but i feel like hack 99.9% of people dont know, only applies to the .1% of people not many people are runnig wire through a conduit bigger than 2" and would need to know about a whiffle ball on the end of the fish tape hack
“There is no instance in the field where you would find more than 360 degrees of bends”……….said the non-electricians….
So where is the link to find this product????
Heeeeyyy Vince you were like 1 hr 50 miles away from my hometown.
Bought it several years ago, sucks I prefer my greenlee with metal leader.
Yeah but conduit like that isn’t what’s hard to push through.. it’s pvc with a bunch of couplings and 90s on it. Now that’s a demo!
#@VCC.CON$TRUCTION!!.....Well done sir! This is, of coarse, biased but BEST video as of yet. I will show love the next live stream $$. I was curious about that fish tape... AND THE HACK🙌👌
Fishtapes usually get stuck further than 10 feet. In my experience. I've got that fishtape
now put 50 ft of conduit before the test bends and see if it works
nice hack
Got the fishtape!
Love the fishtape!
A little confused on how to use the wiffle ball. The statement about it grabbing the outside of the pipe threw me off. Somebody help me please! Help me please!
I think a ping pong ball would work better, you just push the end of the fish tape inside of the ball, tape it on. The ball is larger and round, so it will roll right around the walls of a bigger pipe.
Wiffle ball? Odd but I’ve used an Easter egg going through 3” flex and it worked like a dream
Got one in the truck but the head is too big.
Very neet hack
When he shared the hack, I was like “BOOM” !
Now 90%of people know this
How good will it push threw 360 degree bent conduit that 100+ feet long 🤷🏻♂️
an ad for a fish tape....
Of course you would encounter than many bends on site and more, granted with accessories in there as well but we still want to pull the cables as far into the containment in one go s possible. Frankly I have been using a steel tape in that exact reel for years ( cost £20) and the sporado version is far better for clearing blockages than anything I see here, so no sale and can the senior shill dial back the testosterone please.
Man I have watch many of your videos and as a professional in the electrical trade this video and endorsement of this tool totally takes away from your credibility in my eyes we bought these for our vans and have returned them still waiting on word from manufacture on why these fail to preform the way they are advertised. 100’ of 1 1/2 pvc and this thing refuses to go through it.
He barely mentioned this so called hack. Perhaps a demonstration of this so called hack would have been more fitting considering the title of the video.... I still gave a like. (;
Which is better south wire or Milwaukee
Milwaukee
We got this fish tape and don't use it...their test is to short
Why don’t we have more decent tools like this in the uk?😢
The way he was unrolling the tape had me cringing af
This guy did not let him tslk😂
Birthplace of freedom? hahhjahhahahahhaha
Think I will purchase this tape and put it through a little tougher test as some of the #VERYCOOLGANG has suggested.
Southwire makes the shittiest tools. I wouldn't advertise them even if they paid me. Milwaukee has the same fish tape.
