for the guys critiquing him, instead of the one liners, how about you at least give him some props, or better yet, maybe link us your perfect interpretation of the solo? In this day and age, people seem to have lost track of their humanity. Just be cool, I think he did a pretty damn fine job, for not having John's hands. 90% of the sound comes from a person's hands and good technique. Great job Cooper, keep it up brother!
Currently as a begginer, my biggest problem is that i got influenced and started playing guitar because of amazing virtuosos as Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Yngwie, Jason Becker, SRV and of course John Petrucci, and the problem is that i just wanna play all this amazing stuff at once but its still impossible to do that in my stage of learning. I hope that i will learn stuff like this and be good at it.
dude i can totally relate, started guitar after periphery blew me away. guess how that went! try slow down the song and try to learn part by part. and when bored keep on practicing scales and chord changes to free up the hand. hope this helps.
practice my friend practice, lot of frustration up ahead. overcome that. and never give up. and if you are feeling too frustrated, try learning some thing else, for me radiohead helped, good luck!
When someone says I should die, you lose all credibility and your opinion ends up meaning nothing, but... First off, that guy's cover has way too many incorrect notes. So many. If you can't even get the notes right, then... Seems ur in the minority thinking that the tone and feel in mine are off. And too bad you think I'm "overly proud" of myself. I'll be first to say I'm not an amazing guitarist. Just trying to have fun and offer people free lessons for solos they want to learn.
I love your ability to capture not only the solo but also the soul. Also, you give GREAT instructions.... Probably the best I've seen. Keep up the great work!
wow, great playing great sounds. this has to be one of JPs best solos ever. just when you think that guys can't get any more awesome, he pulls this off. i used to think rush was the best band of all time, but the new DT album proves without all doubt that DT now outshines their mentors
There is no perfect in this world no matter how well you play it. John Petrucci's tone is always on his own fingers. Neither can JP plays his tone too. So perfect is definitely how you define it. To be able to hit the notes and emotion this way I will consider is perfect. Keep it up man!
very nice.i´m a great fan of petrucci this is with holow years live at the budokan, probably his best solos,i saw the dream theater concert and breaking all ilusions was the high point of the show.good job.
Great cover. Little bit cheeky to say you haven't been happy with other versions lol. Especially when the sweeped part in the middle is wrong but ultimately a great version. I'm not sayin you are bad in any way, just highlighting the sweep section is slightly off :) Big fan of your solo a week work though :) keep it up. I'm also very jealous of your axe fx 2 lol
@SoloAWeek My God. What would you say if i proposed we traded hands? I just want to be able to play this NOW, i'm not even close to you yet, kudos, amazing video. Also, kudos on your taste in music DT RULES!!!!!
God how I wish my mechanics were as good as my ear! That run he did where he posted his wrong note, I actually heard that the first time thru, at normal speed, but I wasn't positive until he pointed it out. And I think there was one more, but I'm not criticizing. Wish I could play as well, but I just can't afford the practice time.
So is nobody gonna talk about the fuckin key this song is played in? What about the scales? Pissed off beginner here. At least trying to learn the easy parts of this solo. help. how do i approach this other than using my hearing?
I think it was a good 'interpretation' but it is not close to the original. I played his version against a backtrack of the solo from the album and it is spotty. Unlike the one from Dulio Hubmerto that you can hear the track and the guitar behind his solo. It was way closer. It just gives him more 'credibility'. There was something off with your vibratos and the timing, it felts like you were rushing a little sometimes when I heard it with the original song as the back track.
for the guys critiquing him, instead of the one liners, how about you at least give him some props, or better yet, maybe link us your perfect interpretation of the solo? Even his mistakes sound good, people need to get a life 😅
Yeah exactly and I bet every one of them can’t play the solo. They can put their money where their mouth is and post the solo but they don’t
Currently as a begginer, my biggest problem is that i got influenced and started playing guitar because of amazing virtuosos as Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Buckethead, Yngwie, Jason Becker, SRV and of course John Petrucci, and the problem is that i just wanna play all this amazing stuff at once but its still impossible to do that in my stage of learning. loomenate slow practice...practice practice practice
I will do my best

Yeah, i do exactly that, the problem is that once i play it slowed down i can never get it to the original speed.
practice my friend practice, lot of frustration up ahead. overcome that. and never give up. and if you are feeling too frustrated, try learning some thing else, for me radiohead helped, good luck!
I reckon with a few hours practice a day I could master this solo in about 20 years!
+Simon Rourke LOL.
It's not THAT hard
Honestly nothing’s that hard...maybe learning every Dream Theater instrumental, not just on guitar but in every instrument. That might take 20 years
It’s been four years since you posted the comment, bet you already nailed it.
Not hard as his other solos but still require some good effort and time to nail this one
THANK YOU for this! Easily the best tutorial I've seen- anywhere- on this solo. SUBSCRIBED!

I thought this was great Coop. Damn trolls need to shut their mouths and practice more.
Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing
F#ck the trolls
I love your ability to capture not only the solo but also the soul. Also, you give GREAT instructions.... Probably the best I've seen.
Keep up the great work!

Damn! You nailed it! That was a taste of Euphoria!!

Thank you so much! Great solo!

Awesome, fantastic tone! Welcome back!
Thank you man, his class helped me get this guitar solo perfectly!
Amazing.... Awesome
I can't thank you enough.
What a great lesson, thanks bro!
slow down that vibrato
Delay
very nice.i´m a great fan of petrucci this is with holow years live at the budokan, probably his best solos,i saw the dream theater concert and breaking all ilusions was the high point of the show.good job.
Great one. Sick tone
the touch, damn the touch
Suggestion: When playing it slow, turn off the delay. It makes it easier for people to learn that way.
thank you so much sir
Great cover.

Wow, Mark Zuckerberg plays solo! Thanks for Video.
hi
i love your breaking all illusions solo lesson!!!
is there any chance you can share the backing track ?
Awesome I play it a different way but still smoother than me
God how I wish my mechanics were as good as my ear! @RonnieD50 Petrucci custom...it would have sounded even more like the solo if I had used a LiquiFire!

This video 12 years ago, how about the dude for today....
It's standard tuning I assume?
So is nobody gonna talk about the fuckin key this song is played in? What about the scales? Pissed off beginner here. At least trying to learn the easy parts of this solo. help. how do i approach this other than using my hearing?

Очень круто!!! 👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Holy guitargasm. Great playing though.
Everything is almost perfect, sweep picked section was a bit sloppy (just a bit).

Ernie Ball Music Man JP6
@NamelessSmile lol :-)
michael buble ? ;)
nice job but still need tabs ! :(
EBMM JP6
you look like Darren fletcher..hehe
the delay is fucked up.
you unnecessarily made the 7:11 descend part complicated. There's an easier version than this, with same notes.
Gid
Nice lines... But delay is too much over
What?
What?
Get some sleep, bro!
You look so tired xD
easy on the delay brah
I think it was a good 'interpretation' but it is not close to the original. I played his version against a backtrack of the solo from the album and it is spotty. not perfect but good
レッスンするほどの腕じゃないです。

What?
