What cosmetology school did you go to ?? I’m in cosmetology school now I want to be this knowledgeable. I learned so much in one video than Six months in school lol
A lot of this is experience. Hair schools get you through state board pretty much. Luckily, natural hair is en vogue so it's easier to find education but still, take care to find teachers that are familiar and know what they are doing. I haven't heard a lie in this video yet 🙂
@@oldsouljs8042 You got that right! This is experience plus hair school knowledge. A lot of people say they "do" natural hair but they really don't, they only do what's taught in school and then play at what actually needs to be done so a naturalista can wear her hair both straight and curly. For instance, trimming while wet...it sounds good, but it can come out uneven if done incorrectly. I think it's best for my fine, low porosity hair to clarify, condition/deep condition, detangle, heat protect, blowdry and press out, then trim it on a regular schedule. Then I wear it curly and in protective styles most of the year. Taking the style out bi-weekly to remove shed hair, detangle and rehydrate it, then back into the protective style it goes.
FIRST TIME WATCHER!! I'm like "come through Bill Nye Cosmetology Guy!" 😂😂 I'm here for it! But I'm gonna watch a few more vids before I sub because I'm petty and childish 🥴😂 (jokes)
So interesting that you say the shampoo bowl is where you learn the hair because almost every hairdresser I ever saw has a shampoo girl - they never do it themselves.
I was thinking that, too. I was a shampoo girl my senior year in high school. I really enjoyed it and I really tried but, let me tell you, I was not what those clients needed for their optimal experience 😂
I actually like the teaching and rationale you use for why you do what you do. I love the fact that you take your time while at the bowl to assess the condition of the scalp and determine the specific hair characteristics you’re dealing with. Additionally to cleanse and clarify and work to hydrate the hair. You cannot talk too much. Superb job. Her hair looks beautiful and healthy. Thank you!

I’m manifesting a hairstylist like you 🙏🏽❤️❤️ I’ve never heard of any of this from a stylist they’re always so focused on curl TYPE and I had to learn on my own after years porosity is what really matters amongst other things
I love this 🥰🥺 whoever was complaining about hearing you talk clearly isn’t a cosmetologist & don’t care about their hair 😭 because he definitely gave a lot of information 😌💕
This was great information. And while he talks science, it just sounds RIGHT. The whole convo about moisture from water vs oils just makes sense, even to the lay person. What's even more amazing is he's in MY town. I will be in his chair soon!!
I subscribed due to you using old school terminology and knowledge. "Scalp analysis," "do not scratch the scalp," "clean canvas," "elasticity." These are words of a true professional. ✂️👍🎨
HI! I subscribe to your channel and have watched a ton of your vids (several times) so I can start heat training. I actually live in Chicago, so I was going to consult Travelle about it. I did want to ask you, if I want to start heat training, should I be focusing on starting it on myself, or should my first time straightening be with a stylist like Travelle? Like, should I be focusing on paying a stylist that really knows my hair to do it every time a need another flat iron (so its done the right way), or should I be doing it myself and only going to a stylist for special occasions (so I really learn how to flat iron my own hair and learn what it needs)? I'm really confused about this and haven't started for this reason alone.
@@ultraarlene3751 Thanks for watching my channel! DEF go to a stylist first! They will teach you how to care particularly for your hair-best products, heating tools, etc. for YOU. This will also end up saving you money & time in the long run because you won't have to keep experimenting with products, tools, & techniques that everyone else is using for their hair type. I think Travelle would be excellent to start off with, he def knows what he's talking about & if I get a chance I want to get my hair done by him for sure!
@@sierralafaye Thanks SO much. It makes sense that I would be saving money (and stress) from actually buying the right products and tools the FIRST time.
Finally someone said it. STOP SCRATCHING! It feels good and satisfying to see the flakes lift off but what it does is keep you in a scratching cycle. Scalp issues need to be treated with active ingredients. Period. For detangling I do first pass with wide tooth then follow with a brush, in sections of course. Lovely job as always ❤️
Amen! No more scratching. A dermatologist will tell someone not to scratch because it’s just like scratching a rash- it will only get worse and places the scalp at risk for injury and infection.
Whewwww.....this information. You’re literally all I’ve ever looked for in a stylist. Someone that actually cares about the health of my hair & educates me 😩 too bad I’m in Houston

And I never had issues before trying to focus on hair type back when I just focused on knowing my hair needs water & building from there!!!!!! And that makes sense why folks be product happy now trying to buy product based on hair/curl type when you just need to buy what works for your hair porosity for better consumption. Edit: Wow I’m learning stuff I was doing as a teen. And I wonder where I strayed away?? RUclips!! lol I got carried away with these hair gurus lowkey. FIRST TIME WATCHER!! I'm like "come through Bill Nye Cosmetology Guy!" 😂😂 I'm here for it! But I'm gonna watch a few more vids before I sub because I'm petty and childish 🥴😂 (jokes)
So interesting that you say the shampoo bowl is where you learn the hair because almost every hairdresser I ever saw has a shampoo girl - they never do it themselves.
they about that money and getting as many heads done as possible
I was thinking that, too. I was a shampoo girl my senior year in high school. I really enjoyed it and I really tried but, let me tell you, I was not what those clients needed for their optimal experience 😂
I actually like the teaching and rationale you use for why you do what you do. I love the fact that you take your time while at the bowl to assess the condition of the scalp and determine the specific hair characteristics you’re dealing with. Additionally to cleanse and clarify and work to hydrate the hair. You cannot talk too much. Superb job. Her hair looks beautiful and healthy. Thank you!
I hate when they rush my wash!!! They also rush to detangle!!!! I feel "got" when I leave the bowl. This is what I need.
I agree!!
Some of that product can
Buildup on your hair, it has to be cleared off..... then
I think it last longer.
💯
Sometimes when I feel my scalp is not cleaned ask the stylist for another was and rinse
You're speaking like a REAL licensed Cosmetologist.. Great detailed video
This is THEEEE BEST tutorial I've seen yet!!! This is exactly how my hair is, so this helps me so much! Thank you for taking the time to explain things, and I love that you didn't just cut all her hair off because it "needed it." You have definitely gained a new follower!!!
I need to enroll in a Travelle Lavar Beauty School!! I’m learning So much on here... I Love it!!♥️ And I appreciate Your education!!
I’m a licensed natural hair stylist & I subscribed so fast. You know what you’re talking about which is a RARITY these days. I like to think I’m old school too.. definitely need more stylists like you to EDUCATE. I’m gonna pull my hair out if I see one more growth oil on the market 😭
You not lying them oil ain’t nothin but overpriced junk😫😫
😂😂😂😂
Watching hair washing is so relaxing
I’m glad he doesn’t press on the same temperature for every client, that’s why I’ve never let anyone straighten my hair but I’ll let him, definitely for more than that reason alone, he’s good 😊
I just love the wealth of knowledge you are, so relaxing to hear a studied stylist. Keep up the amazing work✌🏾💛🌞
“We gon wash your hair, period!” Love that 😂✨ I couldn’t agree more if you have a good foundation your already set up for success !
😭😭😭😭😭😭that should be me in that seat!! I love your work!
Peroid
I’m manifesting a hairstylist like you 🙏🏽❤️❤️ I’ve never heard of any of this from a stylist they’re always so focused on curl TYPE and I had to learn on my own after years porosity is what really matters amongst other things
I love this 🥰🥺 whoever was complaining about hearing you talk clearly isn’t a cosmetologist & don’t care about their hair 😭 because he definitely gave a lot of information 😌💕
This is hands down THE BEST informational hair care video I have ever seen. You’re incredibly talented. Keep up the great work!!
This man is talented and intelligent.
Your tips are AMAZING! About to start binge watching now 🙌🏽
Wow anybody says he’s talking too much is slow ..this man is puttin us on game for the free luv it!
This guy is amazinggg. He really enjoys and respects his profession!
Your an good educator when it comes to our hair! Have a good day!
“There are more important things than curls” YES
This is next level beautiful. Her hair is in great condition!
It’s the education for me👏🏾! I’m not a hairstylist but I have my head and two daughters. This was so very helpful and easy to understand. Thank you!
He just educated me. And that shampooing just made me want to fall asleep. It's the best part about getting your hair done. Great job!
OOH THAT SHINE AFTER THE TRIM! I l like what you said about curl typing how can we fit like 6 billion heads of hair in 4 categories
You are quite the masterly instructor for hair. I have learned so much here. God Bless!!!
Whewwww.....this information. You’re literally all I’ve ever looked for in a stylist. Someone that actually cares about the health of my hair & educates me 😩 too bad I’m in Houston
This goes to show how important wash day is to our hair health and growth.
I'm next! You're the only professional utuber on hair. Certified! When I come to Chicago I'm looking you up
It’s the professionalism and skill for me! He is EDUCATED in this profession PERIOD ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love from VA ❤️😘
This man it the TRUTH! 🤯 I learned more about my hair in this short tutorial than I have watching other videos since I went natural 5 years ago! Thank you! You have gained a new subscriber🤞🏽🙌🏽
I’m glad you spoke on that whole hair/curl type fiasco. I know for a fact I have about 3 textures in different areas and I never got into the whole “I’m 3c,4b, 4c in one..” until later on thinking I needed to; likeeeee it’s too much.
Not all are bad, but I know YOU are speaking truth as a professional (along with my mom, she’s a cosmetologist as well).
I've learned so much from this video. I like how he takes his time and really cares about his clients.
I've been a hairstylist for 17 years and for the first time in my life, my hair is natural. I'm not sure how I came to be here, but I'm glad to be here 🙌🏿
That was great I like that you talked the whole way through. It was very informative and very similar to how I do silk presses and how I educate my clients
I like your narration, keep it going. The hair curl typing system is silly only useful if you are going to buy a weave/extensions. What you said re porosity, density etc is correct and a game changer.
Thank you for being so thorough. As a licensed stylist, I like to educate my clients and take my time as well. Unfortunately, some clients just don't seem to care. Just want to rush in and out.
As someone who has very thick low porosity hair this is the most informative tutorial Ive seen. Thank you for this because it can really be a struggle ❤
I love that you “don’t cut for the sake of cutting” 🙌🏾
You don’t talk too much, you’re informative!! Let them mute the video you had that right💯💯
OMGoodness. I need to come to see YOU! I am so glad this channel is in my life now.
Me the whole video: ✍️good stuff good stuff
“And that starts with diet-“
“aaanddd I’m out”
😂🤣
AAAHHH 😭😭😭☠️ Lawd I know!
RIGHT 😭😭😂😂
FINALLY A STYLIST THAT DOES SCALP TREATMENTS. thank goodness 😭😭😭 and the fact that you know the difference between dry scalp and and seborrheic oily scalp...
