Important Key Tips Not Mentioned:
I keep my flat irons between 390-400. I’ll only go over 400 if I’m working with extremely course hair and I see that I need to up it. When I do, it never exceeds 410. When blow drying, the dryer should NEVER be directly touching your hair at ANY point. It should only be following wherever the brush is moving. That is how you get heat damage. Leave a tad bit of space between the dryer and your hair and blow dry on the highest heat setting your dryer has.
Dryers that have 1,800-2,000 KW work best for silk presses. Last but not least, make sure those roots are completely STRAIGHT!!! That is a must, if your roots are not straight, you’ve just wasted your time. Your roots can take way more heat then anywhere else, so if you need to hit it twice with the flat iron, don’t be afraid. You won’t get heat damage from it. You can also use the mini flat iron for the roots (same method as using a pressing comb) and then flat iron how you regularly would. CERAMIC IRONS are your best friend, so stay away from titanium if you can. Hope this helps 💜
Thank goodness I found this video. I’m TERRIBLE with hair but desperately want to learn to take better care of my hair. Financially, I can’t get my hair done often but I’m tired of looking a mess and wearing my hair in a dreaded, dry, matted bun! Maryland weather also plays a factor in my hair always frizzing up, it’s so unpredictable here and humid!!
@@MsAKBombshell you can always take care of your hair yourself and get the same results as a stylist. Nothing is ever wrong with that route! I’d highly recommend to get your trims and haircuts professionally done though, since you can’t see exactly what needs to go. Ty so much for watching beautiful 💜

I so have 2 questions, what are the names of the 3 products used prior to the blow dry? And are they available at Sally's? Because I want to try this on my hair but I don't have a clue what to get. Thank you for your time.

Omg you guys this works!!! I straightened my hair for my leave out and it started reverting within a couple hours. So I watched this video, washed it and tried again with this technique. I’m SHOCKED. It’s been 5 days and I still haven’t had to straighten it again. And I have 4B/4C hair. Tysm!!!! Liked and subscribed 💕
I love that for you! Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Do you use the exact same products?
I have struggled with flat ironing my natural hair for over 15 years, I bought the products mentioned in the video and used as directed. The best flat iron ever, longest without reverting. THANK YOU!
I love it! You're welcome and thank you for watching!
What's the name of those flat irons?
@@lorriestewart262 chi G2 (big one) and the smaller one is the Paul Mitchell mini.
Ok, thank you so much
Did it stand up in humidity? I live in Atlanta and I have had issues with frizz since I've moved here and I've tried so many different products that look good until I'm outside for a few minutes
I have watched about 20 Silk press videos. Each video had a minimum of 2 million views. However, I always come back to this one. Great job lady.
Thank you!
Here is a list of shampoo’s and conditioners that will take your silk press to the next level and give you that salon quality look and feel. You need to use a clarifying shampoo first ( this is to get your hair squeaky clean. You must NOT skip this step). 2nd, use a moisturizing shampoo. And lastly, you can either regularly condition or deep condition. NEVER do both. You’ll over load your hair and weigh it down.
Shampoo’s that clarify: Tea tree by Paul Mitchell (do not get the lavender), Oat protein and henna by design essentials, mongongo by Mielle organics.
Shampoos that put the moisture right back in after clarifying: Mega Sleek by Matrix, Almond and avocado by design essentials, Honey Creme by design essentials, Macvoil anti aging (TOP TIER), Moisture recovery by Joico.
Deep conditioners (can be used to regular condition as well) : Almond butter express by design essentials, K-Pak reconstructer by Joico , Babassu mint by Mielle.
Thank you so so much for this. You know what I noticed that I’m going to have to switch my shampoos I’ve been using the mielle products and I truly believe that that is for those who have that fine naturally curly hair - like my daughter who’s 8 the ingredients in those shampoos like carols daughter and Shea moisture and mielle are not strong enough for my hair so definitely I do need to go back to the old school products as you mentioned above

It definitely works! Did my hair & it was straight for 3 weeks! My cousin whose a hairdresser thought I relaxed it. 💖
😍😍
That Paul Mitchell product is the business! It will keep that frizz away for at least two weeks during the summer. Design products are excellent. The after shampoo mint conditioner is it for my crunchy hair. A heat protectant is so important and that blow drying process is too. It makes flat ironing so smooth. Thanks for educating folks on the correct way to do a silk press and make it last.
Thank you, Carla 🥰
Hey Carla smith is it the product Paul Mitchell frizz oil send me a picture how it looks I want to try it thanks u
This is what a tutorial is! She gave step by steps and which products to use. Thank you for this! ❤

In that order. I happened upon this combo on my own after literally DECADES of doing my hair by myself. Much trial and error, but now I never need to visit another hair salon. I do all my blowouts myself & get the same results every time, just like you said. That moisture and heat repellent is everything.
I literally do everything right EXCEPT, I was applyin my
paul mitchell post blow dry and on the ends. this was so helpful.
I need to try this once my hair grows out
Hey so does your hair revert back to natural curls without heat damage?
Hopefully I can learn to blow dry my hair on my own really well lol. I always struggle with that
The best video ever! Straight to the point. you told the 3 hair products that you need and WHY you need all 3. And you also gave techniques I never knew were so important. Thank you so much. I get so many compliments on my silk press now..it really does last with no frizz!
Thank you so much for watching! So happy it worked for you 🌹😘
This is the best. I've never been able to press my hair let alone try any style off of a youtube tutorial but im so glad i came across this video earlier this year. I tried everything you said and my press did not puff out by the time i got out of the bathroom. Not only that but it lasted for 2 1/2 weeks. I HAVE NEVER gotten this result without going to the salon! As i was pressing it i was in complete shock as to the difference these steps made. A world of thank yous!!! Now I'll only pay for a press if im in time crunch or lazy. Now im back to get a refresher. ❤❤🙏🏽

This was an excellent tutorial. I was that woman whose hair would puff up before I got to the other half of my hair. Thank you for listing the products first. I purchased it all.

Thank you so much!!! My daughter’s hair stayed so silky and no more problems with humidity. I did it just like how you said to ❤
Used your suggestion, leave in, heat protectant and serum, and got new products (it’s a 10 and super skinny) and my silk press came out bombbb!! Thanks girl 😘
It’s a 10 is the 🐐!!! And yayyyy 😍
thank you for defining the relationship between you and the hair model, because i was thinking the way you strongly re-positioned her head and then tapped her frown lines i assumed there was a familiar connection cause that's how i do my lil'sister😁😁
She has a bad habit of making those faces. I noticed it while looking up at the camera. I said aht aht before these folks think I’m hurting you 🤣
I followed your steps and I can say I can't remember when my hair felt so good and came out this good. I had CHI instead of Paul Mitchell and it came out great I have 8 months of new grow (growing out relaxer) and 4c hair. I thank you a lot. Keep up the good works.
I forgot when I was blowing drying one quad I put a plastic processing bag on the others so the blow dryer didn't dry them out before I got to them.
Thank you beautiful! I’m so glad this method worked for you!
Don’t ever use Paul Mitchell products unless you’ve been in the pool. Shampoo 3 is the only good valuable product they have
Yayyyyy
I've discovered that this product is also excellent at detangling and preventing tangles if you just want to wear your hair natural.
I know im late but I followed these steps using similar products and I have to say this is the best home blow out I ever did.
So detailed and informant. I always thought more products can help the hair to revert back quicker but I was wrong.
Ty 💙 and 3 products max that targets those key things mentioned will always get the job done. It may seem like a lot, but if you portion each thing properly, it’s actually a little.
@@Nadashab thanks ❤for the info, will try to do a silk press.
If you ask some stylists they will agree with you. So much conflicting information. 🤦🏾♀️
@@cfoster6804 that's true I guess we just have to inform ourselves on the products we use as well🤷♀️
@@cfoster6804 that's because different hair types will react differently so there's no one right answer my for example i have low density type 4 low porosity... i have to straighten my hair freshly washed with no products
Thank you. I tried your method, and my hair is the straightest it has ever been. I am so pleased! I added Chi Iron Guard because I could not find on the bottles where it talked about them being a heat protectant. But I sprayed them all in with damp hair. I also made Bantu knots overnight to flatten my roots and took them down in the morning. My hair below the root was still damp, and then I did a blowout, and it worked very well. I was able to flat iron on 350 and had great results. I am 4C. High heat is not always needed if you have a good porcelain flat iron.
I have tried so many things trying to get my hair straight and stay that way. This is the only thing that’s worked. Thank you so much, wish I’d seen this video sooner!

Using these products and technique for my college graduation being held outside TOMORROW! With faith of a mustard seed, Im praying my 4C comes thru! 🙏🏽😂

My hair would never get straight until I tried this method. I was convinced that my hair just couldn’t get straight since the salon could not press my natural hair good.
I’m so glad I found this video. My hair looks like I went to the salon. I just did it before going to a wedding. Had me thinking I should go to cosmetology school and open my own salon. 😂

THANK YOU!!! I followed these directions and guidance (minus the products shared). I'm gonna try this. I've been struggling. Mine frizzes up once I get to the next section. I was adding the heat protectant and Serum right before blow drying. Now I know to do it while wet. Thanks!
I’m probably the only person here who thought that was Mrs. Obama doing a hair video
I did this on my 4c natural hair and I promise you your a life saver I have been trying all types of things for years and this method WORKS!!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!! YOU ROCK
😍😍😍
Does it work in really humid places like Atlanta?
One of biggest gripe as a natural when getting silk press is that they they dont twist the sections like that! The stylist leave the hair hanging and then start tugging on the hair wondering why its knotted up again
😩😩🤣🤣 so true
My mom always twisted our hair like that during the drying process. I don’t know why people think it will not dry up if you leave in all out like that. Plus it is easier to dry when you section it off.
Facts
Wow then you need to find a stylist that specializes in natural hair because that detangling and twisting process is key
I’m a stylist and twist wit up because that way is away from the area I’m working with
Girl the searching I had to do just to come back and find you!! I thought I subscribed when I first watched this video. I just want to say consider yourself hugged! I have never had a silk press or blowout that doesn't frizz (fine 4a hair). Hairdressers used to think I was being ridiculous until the second I step outside my ends frizz up. Will try this on my own to see how it works #trusttheprocess 🤞🏾👌🏾
How did it turn out?
Thank you 🎉. I tried your method and my blow dry session got my hair more straight than usual.
I’d also like to add that my hairdresser told me to use a round brush. That seems to be the only type of brush that gets my hair straight. Paddle brush doesn’t work on my 4c hair 🤭.
My hair holds heat so after so long I’ll start sweating in my head defeating the purpose. LOL
So many tips in a short video! That brush sounds like a good idea. I have been heat free for 5 years and I am finally ready to switch it up! TFS!
You will love the brush 💜
Thank youuu! I could not figure out why my hair keeps frizzing immediately after I straighten it!
I used to straighten my hair all the time years ago and never had this issue I'm having now. Now it all makes sense, back then I used 3 products, some sort of leave in, heat protectant spray, and serum. I was about to give up on straightening my hair lol.
