Thank you for doing such a detailed video!!! I know next to nothing about cars and I hate it when videos assume you have prior knowledge! And much appreciated for showing with all the other fluids are at the end!!!
Thanks for this, I just took my used 2017 Fortre for her first oil change and wanted to make sure the local lube place did their job correctly! Happy to say they did.
Thanks for your help. For everyone doing diy oil change. Know that the oil filter only takes about 300-350 ml. You need to account for that while filling up the oil.
Lots of great details, I like to do it myself, can't trust the dealers or quick lube shops. I like to choose my own oil and know its been done right. Been burnt in the past!
Thanks so much for uploading this! I recently purchased this exact car, albeit black with a manual transmission. Figured I'd do the oil and intake filter off the bat, so I can keep better track of my maintenance. Always appreciate a nice, thorough instructional!
Drain plug with 17mm socket, drain plug has a captive crush washer but new filter had no washer, so I re-used the washer, no problem. Oil did not gush out because filler cap was on tight and so was old oil filter, no oil splashing on under-engine shroud. Old oil filter off in a jiffy with a Pennzoil 80/82 mm 15 flutes cap wrench, part no. 19909. Very slight amount of oil caught the edge of engine shroud while removing the old filter. Just oiled the gasket of new filter (pre-filling filter is useless), new filter started to thread on w/o tools within 10 seconds, finished with the cap wrench. Used 4-3/4 qt of full syn 5w-20.
Hey thanks so much! I've been scouring the web trying to find specific information about this vehicle's oil change procedure. And now I know! Great video!
Good review, thanks. That plastic cover on the bottom is really annoying, I don't know why they bother... in no time it gets trashed, and as much as it protects from little rocks and such it doesn't allow for cleaning. This isn't an OHV anyway. I would argue that pre-filling the oil filter is unnecessary, and most of that oil is going to come right back out the center hole unfiltered. In fact, if anything gets in there from your funnel or anywhere else, it's going straight into your engine.
The plastic cover on the bottom is for better aerodynamics to get better gas mileage because the USA Feds are so anal about mileage, but probably amounts to about 1/100 of a mpg better. The kid at the dealership who had done the previous oil change had over-torqued the drain plug, had to use my impact wrench, but that was impossible because the cover (shroud), had to remove 2 cap screws (10mm socket), bend the cover down enough to wedge in my impact wrench, wasn't too much bother.
Just bought a 2018 Kia Forte S. This is my first brand new vehicle. I decided on the Kia because of the warranty. I've always done my own oil changes and I would like to continue to do so. How does that work with the warranty? How do i prove I did the oil changes if something did go wrong?
YOU CAN NOT BE FORCED TO USE ANY PARTICULAR BRAND OR PART. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PROVE THAT THE FILTERS THAT HAVE BEEN USED ARE AT OR THAT THEY EXCEED THE OE PART SPECIFICATIONS. KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS FOR YOUR OIL AND FILTER PURCHASES. WIX IS A GOOD AFTERMARKET FILTER. wixfilters.com/warranty/doc/Wix_US_English.pdf
I have the same car, but the oil filter is hard to get it to screw on, have you had this issue. Once I wiggle it around for 10 minutes, it finally grabs on but It's just really particular on getting that filter screwed on.
Synthetic oil is generally better for newer engines not recommended for older high-mileage engines. Plus synthetic oil does not require being changed as frequently as conventional oil.
Anyone here change coolant of it. how to drain all coolant on reservoir. i cant find out. i put pipe inside reservoir so i can suck it out.but it cant go to bottom structure of it so complicated. guys help me.
Perfect video. Well spoken, clear and to the point. No annoying music, and wackyness that seems to be in most other instructional videos.
Well done
Thank you!

I agree
Indeed!
YEAH GO IN FOR OIL CHANGE THEN THEY WANT TO UP SELL TO ALL KINDS OF CRAP .RATHER DO IT MYSELF
Yes "new rattles" they noticed....
Mostly from them purposely dropping small screws into your radiator/motor.

great video for a beginner just learning to change oil . I would only put oil on the rubber gasket though less chance of mess .

Excellent video, FYi it’s an extra $20 plus dollars to have the dealer change the air filter and you could of done it in under 20 seconds👍
Thank you
Great video....just purchased a 2017 Forte a few days ago and will be changing the oil tonight. Doesn't look bad at all.
Love this car! My husband does all the maintenance on it. Thanks
@@TheLightHouseLady Did the oil change last night.....only issue I had was getting car high enough in the air to get under the car
I believe my husband pulled the car up on a ramp. It is low to the ground. Glad it worked out for you.

Very thorough guidelines to follow.
Thank you
You make it look so easy!
Very good and detailed information. I will do these procedures tomorrow.
Thank you
How critical is the crush washer ?
Can I use synthetic blend
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! ♥
Thank you
Thanks!!

You must buy the KIA oil filter from the dealer. Keep all receipts & a detailed log of everything including mileage when you do maintenance.

It screwed right on. Did you use a Kia filter?
He has a 80' vibe to his voice
Great video. Is synthetic oil better than the old regular oil?
Synthetic oil is generally better for newer engines not recommended for older high-mileage engines. Plus synthetic oil does not require being changed as frequently as conventional oil.
Thanks, I have a 98 Expedition with a V8 with 268,000 miles on it so I will stick with regular oil thanks again.
its better last longer .

There's a drain plug at the bottom of the radiator.
With kias history with dirty engines from factory, I did a 500 mile change, 2000, then a 5k. They are notorious for metal shavings from factory. ;)
Thank you
