    Did you ever figure out exactly what went wrong? I was planning on putting the On3 kit on my 98 GT, but its got 135k on it, so I'm terrified its not gonna last. I plan to keep it conservative, 450 HP at the crank or less... BTW Cody at straight line solutions seems like a great guy, I had some questions for him, letting him know up front I had no plans to buy anything until a year out, n he told me to call, and had a long conversation and answered all of my questions about the turbo kit and fuel system upgrades, solid dude for sure!

    • @RatchetWrenches
      @RatchetWrenches  Год назад +2

      Never figured out exactly no. If i were to guess, probably gave it a little too much throttle in 4th gear at too low of a RPM putting too much load on the engine which caused detonation. Or could've been bad fuel in the tank. With those power numbers you should fine for sure as long as you don't bring it past 6200 RPM and don't put a ton of load on the engine in higher gears. But yeah Cody is a great guy never pushes you to buy anything if you aren't ready and is knowledgeable!

    • @Mtnbike121
      @Mtnbike121 Год назад

      450 at the crank isnt conservative... thats pretty close to the limit of the 2v rod. Find a junkyard 2v and put a forged rod/piston combo in it and then send it.

      If they had a good tune on it and ran great for months how would switching to a supercharger make a difference? It sounds like pretty standard 2v power limits finally took their toll and it wouldve happened no matter where the boost was coming from

    • @doaburnout1205
      @doaburnout1205 2 года назад +1

      No offense my man the kb supercharger is nice but that on3 kit for the money is definitely the way to go I've seen plenty of on3 kits put some big numbers down for decent $. Plus it would be counter productive to go supercharger when he already has the on3 kit.

    • @RatchetWrenches

    • @RatchetWrenches
      @RatchetWrenches  2 года назад

      Honestly I'm still not 100% sure what the exact culprit was. But if you don't have a built engine, eventually something will give unless you run really low boost with a super conservative tune at low power but then what's the point of it all 😂

  • @TheClapGodSr.
    @TheClapGodSr. 2 года назад +1

    What is a safe amount of hp and torque to run on a stock block? I am completely stock rn and about to pull the trigger on the on3 kit but don't wanna push it too far and blow anything. What would you guys recommend in turns of power numbers?

    • @RatchetWrenches
      @RatchetWrenches  2 года назад

      It's hard to say if there's a "true safe number" since there are so many factors that go into boosting these cars. I've heard generally less then 450HP should be safe but then again here I am. The torque is what really kills these motors overtime from what I've heard. I'd run closer to 350-400 with a conservative tune and you should still have a blast with it!

    Mine is in the middle of a total rebuild. Heads are shot 3 pistons gone. So the shop that is at is using terminator pistons ,rods, and bearings. They bored it 30 over and new heads. Going to be interesting when they dyno tune it. Going to keep running under 10psi boost because I want the reliability but engine builder figures should be around 500 to the tires. Sound like exactly what happened to mine. Came off a gravel road onto a 4 lane black top. Did a semi hard pull and when I shifted from 3rd to 4th she backfired and started making a pile of noise. Keep an eye on intake manifold gasket if your doing an overhaul, it’s never a bad idea especially with the 2vs and one thing I’ve run into as an owner of 2 built 2vs and 2 stock 2vs if your going aftermarket coil packs just spend extra on ford performance msd has failed me 5 times they just don’t have the build quality or just haven’t refined their design. Good things to do are cobra r water pump gasket and if your state allows or doesn’t care enough an egr delete. Nothing made my 2vs reliable like an egr delete and tune.
