This last mass migration from California has been 6 to 1 conservative to liberal. Idaho is now MUCH more red than it was prior to 2016..... You don't know what you're talking about
What’s happening to Idaho happened to California in the 70s and 80s (and all the way up to today) they came from all over the country and world, “Welcome to California, now go home” was a very popular bumper sticker and mantra
At times in the mid-70s, while commuting on the 10, I found myself surrounded by out of state plates, mostly from the northeast. Those folks brought their very un-Californian politics and social mores with them, altering the entire civic landscape of SoCal. It's amusing to see their kids now bailing out.
California was like putting an empty glass on a table. The table represents America the glass represents California. If you fill the glass to much it spills over onto the table and runs all over the table. People over the years kept filling up California now they're spilling over into other states.
Another factor that needs to be emphasized is that Idaho winters are not California winters. Twice as cold and last nearly seven months. People visit Idaho durring the summer and fall in love with it not realizing that that same place in winter is a different planet.
Some parts of Idaho do have longer winters. Here in Boise, you can plan for winter to last November through February but you won’t have snow that whole time!
The mass emigration of Kali folks drove housing through the roof in Portland and Seattle, back in the 90s. It's likely the same in Idaho. People selling their grossly overpriced Kali shacks and dropping cash for nice homes elsewhere, ruins things.
Some of us came here with nothing but a job offer, and bought our house with veterans benefits. But you keep generalizing about things you don't understand
I left California for North Idaho 37 years ago and never looked back. I live in waterfront splendor, just outside a mountain-lake resort town that is beautiful, clean, safe, uncrowded, friendly, and a year-round recreational paradise. My family is on its sixth generation here. Virtually everyone I knew in California has departed the state, which has become a dirty, crowded, dangerous dump.
@@KathleenMcNe Thats funny, I bought my current Jeep truck from one the water front house there. Beautiful area, golf course , all rich ppl. A truck 4 x 4, that never seems a spec of mud from their Sunny San Diego place it was sold at. Almost looks new for a 1978 Truck.
I WAS from Kalifornia and weather for those snowflake is a big factor. If you are not conservative, please do not move to a state that is not woke, knows what a woman is, and where you can conceal carry even without a permit (in most places). The problems you see in dem states are caused or supported by woke folk who think they are educated and enlightened, but cannot see the obvious damage they have and are causing.
@@BCBlueyes, we are! I don’t care how you choose to live, but don’t push it onto other people. As long as you’re not harming anyone or anything or breaking the law. We have a way of living in Idaho that suits us. I believe in being respectful to people and expect it in return. May God bless you this holiday season. Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year 🎆
Housing isn't cheap in Idaho because California folks cashed in on their California homes and paid cash for many homes in Idaho. Drove the prices thru the roof.
Idaho is GORGEOUS....about 4 months a year. Oven in Summer, Freezer in Winter. That's why I live in Monterey, CA most of the year. Politics, Prices, Taxes are awful in Monterey, but the weather is paradise on Earth!
I lived in coastal Southern California for 30 years. It was one hot, smoggy day after another. I moved to North Idaho for many reasons, two of which are the pristine air and four-season climate. While I enjoy all of the seasons, if I had to eliminate one of them, it would definitely be summer. I love the beauty and tranquility of winter.
A friend and her husband lived in Idaho for about 15 years, and loved it; but as they got a little older, and their medical needs increased, they found that the medical options in their area, to be limited so they moved to another state, specifically with medical availability in mind. That being said, they enjoyed their time in Idaho tremendously, and have many friends there.
I bought 2 acres and have my own 50 yard shooting range outside my back door! A dream come true! I’m not going anywhere! God Bless Idaho, a Free State!
I moved from California to North Idaho 37 years ago and never looked back. I live in waterfront splendor just outside a small mountain-lake resort town that is beautiful, tranquil, uncrowded, safe, clean, friendly, and a year-round recreational paradise. The area isn't for everyone, but for me, it's utopia. Full disclosure: while I lived in California for 30 years, my family is on its sixth generation in North Idaho.
I'm from Washington. In my subdivision I have seen at least 3 neighbors who came from California and in a year they moved back. I left Washington too, and now live in Nevada. It's hard to leave behind the sun
@@BillLaBrie I enjoy the churches. It keeps the area very family friendly. It's wonderful to see fathers taking care of their children. The cold part, it takes 5 years to get used to it. Out ways the rain in California and all the pot billboard's.
It's not surprising to me that people from CA don't like the freedom of religion or family values. Lived in CA for 5 years. Nothing has ever been more destructive on my family than that state. That's the truth.
Good points. From looking at prices around Boise, they are getting closer to California pricing. There is still a solid difference, but I've seen the same happen in Nevada as well. I have had clients that moved to Reno years ago, then a tech center sprung up & prices escalated. Now people are trying to escape Reno as well.
Our housing prices continue to rise and we continue to grow… and so it goes around and around. Recently moved clients in from Reno as a matter of fact.
I remember going on road trips to visit family in Montana back in the 90s as a kid… we had California plates so people in Idaho and Montana threw trash at us and flipped us off as we drove around. Utah was scary they looked at our multi racial family like they were about to shoot us… So as a kid I realized America sucks and is full of bitter small minded people!… so I stayed in California instead. I have never moved out. Every time I go on vacation or business trip to the rest of the country or other countries it reminds me that I live in a special place where the races mix completely and mostly peaceful and no matter how weird you are or crazy your ideas people will respect you. This place is expensive but it’s because it’s full of people making huge money and creating opportunities. It’s expensive because California is a major capitalistic hub for the planet. There is something special in the air here. Ill bet when people move out they realize fast that the homes are cheaper because they will have stagnant incomes and be missing out on opportunities that could be had if they move to an expensive business hub.
Or maybe they were responding to you based on past experiences with your ilk? I;ve never met a racist Idahoan but I have met plenty of puffed up, pompous asses hailing from California!
I moved back to California twice due to lousy weather everywhere else. Prop 13 keeps property taxes very low for long time residents. Business is brisk in California, unlike smaller states like idaho.
Hard for states like ID to compete with business opportunities in CA because of size but if it works for you, then it’s great, and weather becomes a non-issue.
And here i am trying to talk my wife into moving back to her home state...she's from Idaho by the way. I'm a Utah boy living in what used to be a small town before being introduced to the world by the Olympics, and now it's gone.
@@EricaToffel My wife is from Malad. If I had my druthers I'd live up near Ashton. Unfortunately she won't leave the grand kids...I told her they can still come visit. We live in Midway Utah, where I was born and raised. Sadly it's not the same Midway I grew up in.
@@EricaToffel yes. I get it too. The problem is, this town is filing up with wealthy people who build multi million dollar homes, then vote for things that increase property taxes. It won't be long until we can't afford to live here, and are to old too move.
Im hoping to move out of CA to Idaho BECAUSE my conservative values obviously don't fall in line with CA's. Ive never related to the LA nightlife or it's fast paced environment. I just want somewhere safe and quiet for my family. I live in the northeast part of LA county where it's a dry desert dirt hellhole. Visited Boise in 2022 and we fell in love with it. We hope to move after the holidays.
I moved here from Vegas in the late 90s. I also had no connection to party life/club culture and just wanted quiet and family friendly living. It’s been that, for the most part. The downsides are relatively low wages out of sync with housing costs, and recently, political extremism. When I moved here, it was probably 70% conservative Republicans, but there was a respectful tone in public discourse and most people agreed that it was possible to have differing beliefs and still be neighbors. Anymore, there is more vitriol and less kindness, at least politically.
With the increase in housing prices, I do agree that there is an affordability disconnect. Our hope is that with growth brings more/better opportunities.
Wages may be less than CA but so is cost of living in ID. But wage differential often keeps Californians from looking for positions here to begin with when in actuality, it may end up being closer to a wash.
I live in Oregon and absolutely love it. We have a lot of transplants here as well. We have lots more traffic than we used to, and it’s quite expensive too. There is talk about us joining Idaho, and while Idaho is beautiful it’s not Oregon. I don’t want to live in Idaho so I’m hoping it doesn’t pass. I think instead of leaving your home you should stay and fight for changes to be made. Why take your bs with you and make other people suffer?
I think folks love to talk about the idea of states becoming a part of another state but there is so much bureaucracy in making something like that happen, I don’t see it becoming a reality. But fun talking point.
I was born and raised in Idaho. Had to leave because there are NO JOBS in Idaho. I moved to California. Time to retire now and guess what, I can’t AFFORD to move back home. It’s just as expensive as California now. Sucks.
@@EricaToffel That's what I suspect. If this person BOUGHT a house in CA 5 years or more ago, they'd have made out like bandits and wouldn't be crying.
Sand point is the most beautiful place in Idaho !! we were going to move there in 2018 but my 26 year old son pass away do to brain cancer, but we couldn't leave because the only connection we had left was the Cemetery.
I'll second that! We've had several Californians move in our neighborhood and the first thing they do is start complaining about the neighbor's farm stand! they were lucky not to be shot!!! Or, my personal favorite, the idiot that moved into our ranching community and started complaining about the cattle across the street pooping and mooing!!!! Or the new guy who moved onto our DIRT ROAD and is now complaining he wants it paved!!!!
So glad they are leaving although I don't know anyone that is and I have been here since 79.......yes, that's 1979........from cali....so were glad they are leaving because the traffic is unbearable
I live in Boise but just drove a car to Georgia for a family member. I drove through Wichita, Tulsa, Little Rock, Memphis and Birmingham. None of these cities have traffic as bad as Boise has gotten.
@@peterussell673 that’s fascinating! The traffic here never bothers me but I came from Los Angeles area traffic. So it just doesn’t feel that bad. Just goes to show you that it’s all relative! 😁
Well, I moved to the Boise area 5 years ago. I had a hard time finding a job right away because companies didn't want to hire Californians. Oddly enough, once I got a job I found that I was far more conservative than 99% of the people I worked with. I find I am still more conservative than a lot of the people I have met. I grew up hunting and fishing and living off the land in California in an area that had small amounts of snow in the winter. Everyone seems to think I moved here from a beach town because I am from California. I am not leaving, because California has become a trash heap and My conservative vote doesn't count for anything there.
Moved to Idaho from California eight years ago! Best decision I ever did. Not going back to communist California. Housing here is fine, utilities are fine. The only thing I miss is getting my bearclaws. They don’t sell them here. No it’s not slow here, and yes there is minimal night life but we don’t miss that.
Its dangerous to be pregnant in Idaho. Good luck finding an OB/GYN. Also if there is a problem with your pregnancy which happens more than people think don't expect they will treat you in state because of the archaic laws they have passed. If you're thinking of starting a family think about another state.
Culture.. My ex left Idaho because she needed the shopping malls, the restaurant chains, the keeping up w the joneses. Also hated the weather, lower pay in her field and politics. She said this way too conservative for her ideals… She loves the rainbow clan which is non existent where I live. Now i just fish and enjoy the outdoors full time.🤭
I’d imagine the harsh winters and wealth of conservatives drives some back. I remember when California refugees came in the 90’s to Boise.. it was’t just Seattle and Portland they altered. Dare I say Boise State wouldn’t even be a name in college football without the California money that rolled in.
It's all cyclical, but Idaho's economic recovery will be an extended one. Oncethe building comesto a halt, it's going to crash pretty hard. Wages, jobs, businesses, and services will follow.
Spokane, Salt Lake, Seattle, San Francisco. There are so many spots that you could quickly access for highly specialized medical care if Boise did not offer it.
I moved from Ca to Idaho in 2022. I think I was prepared for how cold it gets; but not for how LONG it is cold. Idaho has short-sleeve weather about 10 weeks a year. But that's okay. I wouldn't move back to Ca to save my life.
I can’t imagine how much money I would have to be paid to move to California. All the taxes and micromanaging of peoples life is just not for me. I go all around the country for work and no place is perfect but California is the worst place in the country with possible exception of the NY Boston area. My company actively tries to avoid sending us there and uses it as a recruiting tool. Work for us and we will do our best to not make you go to California or NY. Let that sink in.
@@EricaToffel that’s a good question. I was in Vegas a couple months ago and had fun but I wouldn’t want to live there. I in Nashville at the moment and it’s nice but the traffic is like being in LA. I was in Knoxville last week and that seems like a great place live but probably not a great place to visit. I think im going to Tampa next week. I have a house down there. It’s just hard to beat. There’s lots to do. It has world class beaches. House prices are affordable. Taxes are low. The only draw back is for most people it’s very hard to get a job that pays enough to survive. I know I haven’t done a very good job of answering the question. Sorry
I'm from Alabama and have lived in major cities, but I love north Idaho and have lived here almost 20 years. I love the people, the politics and the cold weather. It is one of the few places where you don't feel like a stranger in your own country. The government will force the endless legal and illegal migrants to come and destroy it like locusts, if they are able to. The maniacs who run this country want my people to be beaten, robbed, humiliated and to pay violent scumbags in the process.
I am a lifelong Californian with many cousins living in Idaho. I have visited Idaho from California many many times. I do agree with the all the information in this video except there is one thing in this video that is misleading . This video shows plenty of African Americans next to white people in Idaho which is simply not reality. Idaho has a very small number of African Americans living in the state especially in the rural areas. The biggest difference between California and Idaho is the large ethnic diversity of people in California compared to Idaho, which is primarily white. In my mind, the ethnic diversity of people is the biggest difference between California and Idaho.
I’m taking a look at Idaho to retire in the near future. Regarding diversity, I’m for being among fair-minded people and I don’t look at race or color.
The dislike of Californians is very evident. We were just in idaho on vacation. Pulled into a parking lot at a grocery store and there was a man walking from his car towards the store. I stopped the car, smiled, and motioned for him to go ahead and cross in front of us. He scowled and mouthed "I don't trust Californians"! I had to laugh because it was so ridiculous. Like I'm going to run him over? Omg, it was actually pretty comical but just goes to show the dislike of Californians. Sad thing is that we have the same conservative convictions of most Idahoans. It's not my fault I was born in a liberal state! Lol!
@@Reactstocomments11 A hundred miles from everything, hot and windy traffic is horrendous high taxes yeah cheaper homes! And a state run by a idiot and high gas prices
In the past 2 years, friends of mine have moved from California to: Idaho, Florida, Texas, Tennessee and North Carolina. None of them will ever move back.
Perhaps you did not want to mention Idaho's near total abortion ban. As time progresses we will see how many more doctors choose to leave Idaho because of this. A sizeable number of OBGYN's have already moved to neighboring states.
They are so foolish. I saw a guy from California throw a can at the base of a garbage can. I said hey what the hell are you doing he said that's somebody's job to pick that up . Hot here in Idaho
Everyone I know who moved to Idaho love it, but I can see why the locals resent all the Californians moving there. I heard that an In & Out just opened up, and I said to my wife, Idaho is over. It will become California soon.
No!!! One in-n-out California does not make. Idaho is a beautiful place to call home. Some lifetime residents are vocal about the influx of Californias but most are so super welcoming!
I moved to Nampa from Sonoma County, CA a few months ago and have found it difficult to adjust to the very hot climate with so many days in the triple digits. I also miss the smaller grocery stores such as Oliver's Markets, Sprouts, farmers' markets and would love more mom and pop restaurants and quaint coffee shops and cafes. Hoping as it continues to grow here these family entrepreneurs will come here with less chain restaurants and large chain supermarkets. However, there are a hundreds reasons to leave California and happy to have done so.
I live in Santa Barbara county but I spent all my summers in ID as a kid, mostly in the Boise area and mountains nearby. The summers are so much hotter in ID and I hate the heat!
This has been an unusually hot summer and the smoke coming in from the CA wildfire makes it all seem worse. You should be able to find your smaller markets, local restaurants, farmers markets in Caldwell, Kuna, Boise.
I am conservative Californian, and I love Idaho, but I understand the people there hate me because I’m from California. It’s not Just Idaho. I feel like I’m scrutinized for something I don’t support.
I am an Idaho native and I don’t think the political views are what drives most of the dislike. It is the economic changes CA people have brought. They came here drove housing prices up and didn’t bring jobs with them. I know police and firefighters that actually commute to CA for work and live here in Boise. Or there are people who work remotely.
If you come to visit, I think you’d realize that people don’t care where you are from! I’ve never had anyone treat me differently for being from CA except for the responses I see on RUclips. 🤷♀️
I do think this is a valid point. The growth of the state has driven the price of housing up and because so many have migrated from CA, it takes the brunt of the blame. But again, I don’t see anyone being treated differently regardless of where they moved from or are commuting from.
@@heatherbstrasser you are right. I have no excuse for that. There are those in this state that has made things hard on me also. I am a retired disabled veteran. I only get so much money a month, and it has become unbearable for us to live. My wife and I loose sleep over the economic issues this state and the Biden administration has placed on us. Thank you.
@@EricaToffel my wife has family in Boise, and in Pocatello. Yes the citizens of Idaho are great. I have friends who retired and sold everything here in California and moved up there. They are extremely happy, and I’m a little jealous. Gavin Newsom has tarnished this state.

I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family.

How about the few locals born and raised here that have seen the serious loss of the quality of life that floods of people and the infrastructure can't handle the massive traffic and sprawling housing and the miles of ugly apartment buildings that have destroyed the once beautiful town ? I would have never entertained the idea of moving out of Boise, my hometown of 68 years because of the huge loss of the quality of life now. However, I would never move to California, infact you couldn't pay me enough to live there.
I wish I had a good response for you but I realize the change over the last several decades has been something that those born and raised in the valley have had to endure. Growth is great for those moving in but hardest on those watching their quiet city stretch at its seams.
That's garbage. My husband and I moved to idaho, he's black and i'm white and he hasn't had any problem at all. We're very conservative and we love it here.
I could live with a certain amount of conservatism. But the whole white nationalist thing seems a bit too widespread, along with the general lack of non-white people. As for education, I dunno. I found a document online (from the Idaho department of education, no less) cheerfully saying that Idaho's student achievement in 2021 was a C, up from a D+ in 2016. Progress is nice, but if I had kids, I'd think twice.
The white nationalist thing.. while it does exist, it's like finding a grizzly bear walking through a city. It is an exaggerated problem, outside of northern idaho. But it should be said the people that stood in opposition to those groups were mostly locals. With the school issue I'm 100% with you on that, there's a reason why there are quite a few homeschoolers in Idaho
@@EricaToffel If people want to do that, I guess that's an option. Though personally I think that homeschooling is a pretty awful development for most kids and certainly for society as a whole. (Reasons upon request.) It doesn't speak well of a state's commitment to its people that they would encourage such stuff. Again, that's just me. I know many others have a totally different take on the subject.
@@KenCunkle that's right for more than reason, but socializing kids is the biggin'. But just as important is getting quality education, which almost all parents really do not have the skills or background to do. Some do, most don't. These are cold facts
California is becoming less feasible for the Young & Old. If Faith, Family, Country & even Farming or other Family run business are important to you, Idaho is a great option.
Idaho is great if you just accept it for what it is. Moving from a state that has literally everything at your disposal to a state that doesn’t but expect the former is asinine. I agree that the housing prices unrealistic for where you are living and the lack of amenities throughout. For all those that think it’s turning to another California then you better be willing to wait awhile because old areas like Nampa have decades of work to do if it ever happens. Long winters are my current concern but I’m learning to stay active during them. The outdoors is gorgeous here in Idaho. California was once called the Golden State for its many sunny days and beautiful beaches. Now it’s the Golden state because there is urine everywhere 🚽
Winters can take time to adjust to but staying active helps. And you are right, we are not CA. We don’t pretend to be so if you make the choice to move here, you should be willing to embrace what Idaho is.
and are u doing that with your openly extremist GOP legislators? appears not, bcuz the abortion law is not just antiamerican but repugnant! It jeapordizes a woman's life itself, let alone her health and future-fertility! Do ya'll know nuthin about basic physiology in pregnancy? U disgust me! and then some!
People leaving Idaho to go back to California is a good thing for Idaho. Next door, they keep showing up and never leave. Washington is becoming California. Just look at Seattle. As their problems spread to smaller cities, pockets of common sense areas, usually in small towns and / or suburbs, hold their ground. The eastern side of the state says he'll no, go back to Seattle.

That’s amazing that you found your little slice of heaven! Idaho is pretty amazing!
No free shit in Idaho!

It's not surprising to me that people from CA don't like the freedom of religion or family values. Lived in CA for 5 years. Nothing has ever been more destructive on my family than that state. That's the truth.
If you are dissatisfied with your lifestyle, uprooting and bringing the whole circus to a new location changes nothing.
🤔 I’d say there is a difference between life and lifestyle. Because new location may get you to the lifestyle you’ve been dreaming of.

Moving out of CA? Where are you going? #boiseidaho #idaho #eagleidaho #meridianidaho
The wages in the state of Idaho are not high enough for former California residents and that’s probably why they’re going back to California ASAP!
Wages may be less than CA but so is cost of living in ID. But wage differential often keeps Californians from looking for positions here to begin with when in actuality, it may end up being closer to a wash.

We considered Seattle nearly a decade ago and chose Idaho instead because even then it was already similar to what we wanted to leave in LA.
@@EricaToffel good call. Seattle is worse now. I live in Tacoma and sometimes drive a semi in there. Tacoma is becoming Seattle now so I'm moving to my hometown of Steilacoom. It's one of the pockets I was referring to. I'm glad you aren't one of the people who want to make Idaho into California.
They can't afford to move back now 😅
That is true!! 😳
Ha,ha
Because California is the best place on earth
@@carlosvillegas6113 for some maybe???

Let me guess, the militias are not accepting any new members
🤔
Looks like there is an opportunity for hair coloring business. 😂
🤦🏼♀️
Idaho was once an option we considered for retirement. One Californian is one too many so we're looking elsewhere.
wow, way to be a reactionary narrow-minded simpleton! woohoo!
Californians will be anywhere you look, but I’d be curious to know what else you find.
You look like Cameron Diaz.
I’ll take that as a compliment. Thank you!
So many people running from themselves. There is no place to go. Everywhere is the same old shit. People= Stress. You always come back to you. If you don't know who you are, there is no safe place. Get to know life, so you can get to know death!
🤔
I couldn't find a girlfriend so I returned to Folsom
Ok - that’s a reason. 😂
Trump signs
Idaho does trend conservative.
They are effective Democrat repellent.

I believe they move back because Idahoans won`t put up with their California bullshit.
Most stay once they have arrived. 😉
