I was 11 years old when this was released in the UK and I heard it on the radio. It was the very first vinyl record I bought with my own money (I still have it), and I was moved by it. As an 11 year old kid hearing about people my older siblings age being sent of to war to die made me the vocal pacifist I am today.
Philip Lynott had a song by the same name. Robin George on guitar RIP. Lynott wanted to do Thin Lizzy with Robin George on guitar and Brian Downey on drums. They had started writing new songs but Lynott unfortunately died. RIP
A lot can be said about the Vietnam war but I really don’t care to spew my inner thoughts about that and what I really would like to say. However it’s true that those young men that were fortunate to be able to come home did not receive a hero’s welcome and that really pisses the F out of me. Shame on the government and States for this tragic portion. God Bless our troops and we do give them a hero’s welcome nowadays. Yes it is sad that many still and will continue to be haunted by the unimaginable scenes of battle. Pray for them and the falling who never came back.
I have this single on cassette, I love this track. Glad you could experience what it felt like to see and hear this Gen X classic!

And it hit the charts. When Pop Musicians start to using more sampling technology.

Did you have to cut out the suicidal part of the song, where the gun is loaded and shot, without the music? Basically it is implied, in the song.
And only in the us a 19 year old can not buy a beer
