For all the love Cubase is getting, I hope it takes a few lessons from Studio One. The way Studio One has implemented Folder Busses is incredible. Love how visually and organisationally intuitive it is. Love how when you create or move tracks into the folder busses, their colour gets automatically updated, and also the track automatically gets routed to the folder bus. Studio One also has such powerful macros. I have macros to add plugins and instruments. And I can add all my favourite plugins in such quick succession because of macros. I find Studio One's workflow a lot quicker and more intuitive than Cubase's.

This breaks my heart because I can't deny it any longer...Im going to have to leave Studio One after 5 years. I will say this...I realized how limited the stock vsts are in S1 so I made it for it by getting Arcade, Serum, Pigments, Serato Sample, Scaler and many others just to make up for what the DAW didn't bring on its own...so Im stuck a bit but I'll def watch your Cubase Tuts!

Joshua Butler, did not mention the control room, which is awesome. I was in Fix-A-Mix, last week and the engineer mention that he forgot to deactivate SoundID in Logic, before he exported his mix. Josh, I have been a Die Hard S1 user for years as it is one of the easiest DAWs to use on the market. But……..I must say my friend you may be on to something. I have vouched for years that nothing would pull me away from S1. Until……..I downloaded the trial of Cubase Pro 13. Man they have everything that kept me on S1. Drag and drop, VST thumbnails, and there VSTi’s are far superior than Presence and Mai Tai (even though I use Arturia, Omni, and Kontakt). I learned that S1 does not even use all of the Performance and Efficiency cores on my M1 Max chip where Cubase does. I will miss the project page though. I just wished that Impact and Groove Agent functioned like Logics DMD. If Cubase adds that feature and also a project page like S1, they will a lot of S1 users JUMPING SHIP!

Presonus seems to go back to the term: Use U ears. Yes, I use ears, a digital compressor or whatever they even sell as extras, has no indication of what is happening. Cool, what?
Nobody knows what is happening with these cheap compressors, which U will get when U are a slave of Presonus. Just play them by ear. And anyway, they suck.
The best compressor is the stock one of Presonus: No colouring, precise control of attack, release, etc, mappable/punchable with an external calculator to the microsecond. You still need an external calculator though. Which is Middle Ages from the 9ties.

Main DAW was S1 from v6 due to their massively improved video implementation. But this 6.6 update has just exposed the stench of big corporate greed so much I have to turn my back on them at last. You've switched DAWs as much as I have lol. I tried to switch to cubase 12 from S1 about the same time you were trying to a couple years ago, but I didn't last long. It's undoubtedly the most feature rich daw, but the majority of that i didnt need or use. My main gripe with it was that it was a pain to navigate around and work within the timeline. Just not very intutive. Ive owned all of the major daws now (except for logic pro now, which I might give a try at some point now that i have a macbook), and I always return to Reaper. Tho i still own S1(5), bitwig 5, and FL20, I mainly use NI Maschine as a base for crafting ideas anyhow, and it doesn't integrate very good with any of the DAWs no matter wich one im using. So I just lay ideas down in maschine software, then use it as a multi track vst inside the daw from there. Usually that's Reaper. For recording audio and mixing/mastering it's simple and straightforward, and handles CPU resources the best. Plus I love the "one type of track that can be used for anything" approach. No more dedicated instrument tracks vs, audio tracks, vs buss tracks (ect.) nonsense. This is the digital age, theres no reason for daws to have the built in limitations that analog boards had lol. And even tho Reaper sucks for midi, I use Maschine for the heavy lifting with midi anyways. I only use the DAW midi to add finishing touches here and there.

Give logic a try for sure. It’s a great DAW. Reaper is absolutely a beast. I have two friends that use it, and they swear by it and I honestly can’t argue with them because it is an awesome DAW. Cubase just checks the most boxes for myself and my workflow. And I am absolutely not a fan of a company charging me a monthly subscription for the latest updates. Referring to Presonus of course.

Welcome to Cubase my friend. Cubase actually does support ARA with melodyne as well as Sythesizer V. yes, the chord track can be a huge time saver. There are also chord pads which I only recently discovered and now I used them. I still need to play the chords the real way first to see what inversions I might want to use but those can be programmed into the chord pads too. I've been a Cubase user for several years. I've used Pro Tools before, but I always ended up back in Cubase. Realistically, any DAW is fine as long as you understand how your plugins work and what workflow you like. The biggest turn off for me would be the whole subscription stuff for DAWs, like what Pro Tools is doing and now Studio One. It may not be great for hobbyists, but might be fine if you're already doing audio for a living or make enough money to cover the monthly or yearly cost to have everything up to date with your DAW. In terms of ARA, I'm sure other DAWs may do it better. If anything, I think the ARA Vocalign is better than the stock audio alignment in Cubase. I'm always editing vocals with Variaudio.

I have been using Studio One for 11 years, now I am about to switch to Cubase 13. Studio One has a lot limitations for whose work with MIDI, especially when you work with hardware synthesizers, Studio One has a lot jitter and it has no List Edit for MIDI tracks. I have Akai MPC Key 61, I know Studio One 5, it has no sidechain for vst2 instruments, even for vst3 instruments., so no chance to send audio from S1 to MPC vst's input. Cubase 13 has sidechain for vst3 instruments, I am using Kushview Element to route signals between MPC VST2 and Cubase 13. I am in trial period at the moment, but I think I will go for Cubase 13, I have no idea what happened in version 6. But I don't think I am interested in it. I also haven't noticed a audible jitter in Cubase, it was worse in Studio One, it was impossible to use hardware synthesizers in Studio One 5. and yes, Cubase's stock plugins are better than Studio One has. Your vids have been great on this topic - I was on S1 5 Artist, and have switched over to Cubase 13 Pro recently - there's no reasonable way to upgrade from 5 Artist to 6 Artist or Professional. I would have to buy a new 6 Artist licence. I found that to be questionable. It's not the only reason I switched though.
I trialled Cubase 13 Pro on a whim and initially hated all the pop-up windows but quickly found my way around that and think it's actually really good for dual monitors. Long story short, similar paths, seeing these vids and then this one now as I've basically decided to fully commit to Cubase 13 Pro is timely.
A couple of things in Cubase stood out to me - it has ARA integration - in this video, you mentioned Cubase has VariAudio and it's own VocAlign thing, which it does, but if you're more comfortable with Melodyne or VocAlign specifically - enable the Extension for them in the bar up near the top of the screen (it's like the 3rd bar down, at the far right).
That will let you choose whatever ARA plugin you want, and you can use them just as you did in Studio One. Super cool. You can also bring up these same extensions in the tracks inspector tab by hitting the little arrow next to the track name to expand it.
Being able to rearrange where the arranger track is feels like a game-changer itself.. maybe Studio One allows for this, but I haven't figured it out.. in Cubase, it's as simple as dragging the arranger track to where I want. This already feels super handy for me, as someone that prefers to one-shot most of my recordings. It's nice to put the arranger track directly above the instrument I'm recording - in Studio One, I had issues with visibility of the arranger track, when there was a lot of tracks and other things I might have had up.
The multi-tap delay in Cubase is fantastic. I absolutely love it.
I vastly prefer the channel strip in Cubase - being able to easily rearrange the order is handy af, IDK how to do this in S1 (if it's possible?), but in Cubase it was simple, you just.. move them around, lol.
I could also be wrong on this but Cubase has built-in, easy to see and use meters - no additional plugins required for keeping tabs on loudness/LUFs etc.. I haven't explored the control room aspect much yet..
..there's just a lot to love in Cubase 13 Pro, and it seems to better suit my workflow.
Enjoyed the vid. Actually wished it was a bit longer and went more in-depth on the differences and things you like/dislike when comparing the two, but realistically that could be a vid that goes for hours. lol.
EDIT: ofc now that I've written the above, I've had Cubase 13 Pro crash on me multiple times today. cool.

I like to side-chain my bass guitars or sub basses at 80hz and below and have my kick drum "duck" the frequency. So it ducks the frequency and not the volume of the kick itself. It's different for every situation of course but it makes a lot of room for the kick to cut thru without making the mix muddy or "cluttered" sounding. You can do the same thing with the FabFilter Pro Q 3.

It's been quite a hot minute to make my final decision to choose the perfect 2nd DAW along with Mixcraft 10.5 Pro Studio.
I've though out using Reaper 7, Cakewalk, Waveform 13 Free, Studio One 6.6, Magix Music Maker.
But Cubase 13 Elements was the one to go for. I'm definitely looking forward to trying out in the foreseeable future, If all goes well. Then the Elements version will be 2nd primary DAW.
Then later down the pipeline. I'll upgrade to Cubase 13 Artist, The Artist version has unlimited MIDI, Audio & Instrument tracks.

On same system, this was not possible with S1 because it would just freeze if left idle for a period of time and only way to fix it is hard restart... Windows 10

I don't think Cubase is on an upward trajectory. Good luck. I use Nuendo and I'm not optimistic with where this software will be in several years.
