    * I went a bit too fast on the first one (Track Headers) . Nothing wrong with what I have shown here, but "Track Versions" in Cubase is a bit closer to what SEIDS is showing on the Logic Side with Track Headers.

    •  2 месяца назад +1

I also thought about the "Track versions" feature when I saw that part.. That switches between different versions of the whole track though instead of just the clip, so I think the way you did it was a bit more like the feature she shows off in Logic... However.. We've got BOTH track versions AND switching between different clips in Cubase.. They have that in Logic? ;P

You and Dom Segalas are my go-to for Cubase tips. I've been using Cubase 12 Pro for nearly 2 years now and still learning loads of sneaky tricks. For me, the workflow as an artist/Producer I've got into Cubase is awesome. I was shouting at the screen with a lot of these, namely the VariAudio section.

I’m glad you did a response video on this one. I won’t speak ill of anyone, as I am sure their intent in making a video like that was honest, and meant to be entertaining, but the unintended consequence of taking someone who clearly doesn’t know the ins-and-outs of Cubase, and inferring that they do, in order to “wow” them on all the tricks that someone very well versed in Logic, is that they are putting misinformation out there, for people under the guise of “expert advice”. “Oh my god!” And “Wow that’s CRAZY!!!” Reaction videos make great fanboy (Logic or Cubase) fodder, and the RUclips algorithm definitely loves that, but if I were to do a video like that, I would want to vet the information I was putting out, to make sure it was at least correct. Anyways, thanks for doing this video and not being a jerk about it. You handled it very politely, professionally, and set the record straight hopefully combatting some of the unintentional misinformation that is now out there. Kudos to you. 👍

Everybody thinks their DAW is the best and will always try to win people over to their side. Let me ask this question.. Your car goes in for a service, you get it back and the problem is even worse. Do you go back and blame the the mechanic who worked on your car, or the tools he used when he was working?...
DAW's are tools, and they all have nearly the same features in 2024. When a new feature comes out, it's not long before the others have it as well. We must stop trying to find the "best" DAW, and rather get educated on the one you're already using. The guy with the guitar clearly didn't understand his tools and will forever be jumping from one DAW to another, when someone shows him something new. Learn your tools, learn your key commands, and learn to work faster and not harder.
    Great work Chris!

I've been using Cubase professionally for 21 years and recently started working with Logic. Have you noticed it takes a lot more clicks, windows, and settings to achieve the same tasks? Cubase is (or at least seems to be) deeper that Logic, but you work faster in Logic and keeps you more creative.

Yes, I can confirm this, I use both. Logic has no Macros !! no plugin searching etc. I hate Logic's very slow workflow and I don't need a Clip Loop Lounger and all the fancy "modern" Beatmaker and Session Player stuff in the new L11. In these days Cubase is way better in so many areas. Cubase is PRO now. Not Logic.

The way I have to switch between sweep mode or edit mode in a comp to do simple editing tasks like trimming edges makes me crazy. That and not being able to adjust clip gain on parts of a comp without flattening it. Things I'm so used to doing in Cubase. Logic is decent bang for the buck but I remain team Cubase.

Seids is awesome and I love her content (even though it's super focused on Logic). But this is the perfect example of people knowing their tools really well but not being super aware of other options (Seids), someone who doesn't know their tools well (Seids' guest), and someone who knows their tools and many other industry options well (you). Loved seeing this because it really does show that MOST DAWs on the market can do some incredible stuff, and at the end of the day it's just preference and what you're used to.

Given that they do the same thing (more or less), it's interesting how Cubase seems to offer chargeable upgrades more frequently than Logic. I’ve been a Logic Pro fan ever since my first MacBook but I recently remembered I had a free code for Cubase that came with an audio interface so I tried it out and not long after there was a sale on the upgrade to the top level so I grabbed it. I will say, I think Cubase probably has a lot more “pro" features than Logic but I find it way easier to find what I need in Logic, it’s just laid out more sensibly in my opinion. Granted, I’m more a hobbyist than a professional and I don’t really need that much as far as features. One main reason I’m trying to learn Cubase is it will run on a Windows laptop (which I hate Windows BTW) because my MacBook Pro screen just broke and I can still use it with a monitor but I needed something portable and had a Dell laptop laying around. Also, a shout out to Dom’s channel, he pretty much has a video for about every question I’ve had about Cubase.

I do all my song writing and editing in Studio One, but enjoy mixing in Cubase. For whatever reason I've just never jived with Cubase for writing. I find editing in S1 also quite a bit better for one reason: its editing window. I also like being able to adjust the fade parameters on the track and not have to go into an options menu like Cubase (maybe you can do that in Cubase too?).
Either way, all the major DAWs are great (except for Luna, that program has a long way to go). Just demo them and pick which one that feels the most natural and gets out of your way.

a function that is too often neglected and that we never talk about is the zoom memory. it is however very practical when we do a lot of editing. I invite you to go see what it is used for.

Cubase is a vast program, and I am always learning new things. When people ask me what the best DAW is, I always tell them, "The one that works best for you."
I did learn something from that Logic video, "DON'T DO DRUGS, KIDS."

Wanted to leave a comment here. When I do comping in Logic Pro when you right click it give you more options on how you want to bounce this track based off all the other little parts put together to make one. My favorite is to make new track and leave the old one so it will bounce everything to a new track and leave the old compiled tracks there. Then I will hide the old one just so I can go back later if I need to make a double take or something else.

Actually there is something available in Logic but missing in Cubase: the command "select highest/lowest notes" in the selection. Very useful when you need to spread a chord voices to different tracks: you copy and paste the whole block chord and this way you can easily select and delete one by one the voices you don't need...
I know that in Cubase there are workarounds but it would be nice to have such a command..

Each DAW has its pros and cons. I use multiple DAWs: Cubase, Bitwig Studio, Logic. Because Apple hardware is very expensive / overpriced I don't plan to use Logic as my main DAW, but I like its instruments, especially Studio Strings and Studio Bass from the latest Logic version. Studio instruments have many articulations. I like drum kits also, both acustic and electronic.

Cubase still doesn't have basic functions such as midi transform and q flam. Midi information outside the region boundary is still visible when clips are manually shortened or cut using the range selection tool. Cubase doesn't have undo / redo changes for vst INSTRUMENT parameters as a part of the DAW (they had this in cubase 12 but they scrapped it for Cubase 13). Logic Pro has integrated stock and 3rd party midi fx directly on the channel strip. You can record the output of the midi FX directly on the track instead of routing the midi out. In logic pro, any parameter (that can be added as an automation) selected on the channel will show up in the automation lane. To do the same in Cubase you'll have to write enable a track and click on the things that need to be automated for them to show up in the automation lanes. In Logic Pro you can select all the midi and audio regions and match their names to their track in one click. This is a feature built into the software. In Cubase you'll have to make some sort of a macro which combines a PLE Preset and many other settings.
In terms of production and quality of Life related features Cubase is lacking in many aspects. However, the sample manager (mediabay) and the plugins that cubase comes with are absolutely amazing.
Lets hope these functions are added to Cubase in version 14.
In my opinion Cubase is more inclined towards recording, Mixing and mastering related tasks. Logic Pro has adapted more towards the music production side of things based on its current set of features.

Excellent video - it confirmed what I thought: most DAWs have more or less the same feature sets (implemented their own way, and at different points of development), just like consoles (API, Audient, Euphonix, Focusrite, Harrison, Neve, RND, Sony, Soundcraft, SSL, Yamaha, etc) pretty much all have similar feature sets - and are also highly customizable.
What's surprising (and pathetic) is the all the fanboys of this or that other DAW rising up in arms to trash Logig Pro - I've been on a lot of different forums and can't say I've ever seen (or heard) Logic users trash (or feel the need to trash) other DAWs. Just a thought.

I’ve changed to Cubase last year after using Logic 9 and x for near 10 years, Logic is a horse power DAW with many tools and features, colors too. But when compared to Cubase it honestly feels like a Toy. Also being techie, Cubase is more reliable when mixing in raw audio terms. Not all DAW do or sound the same, no matter what many people say. (Pls don’t start arguing about phase experiments because i’m talking about real time sound translation, not exporting the same waveform which doesn’t make sense). Apple CoreAudio and AudioUnits framework are sound destructive. VST2 and 3 are far more reliable than AU. I even used StudioOne v3 for some time when i started buying Virtual Instruments and noticed that AU wrapping changed my synths sound in a very noticeable way. Cubase is the real deal and the Daddy DAW for critical audio nerds, in fact the CLab Logic Software which apple bought, ripped off many of the original Cubase features to coexist with it. I like to know how to use Logic and other daws but for me is a No look back decision.
