The dude brought me back to wrestling with AEW. His match with Dustin is still a favorite. Now, I'm going to have to watch WWE to see how is story continues to grow. The son of the son of a plumber is making wrestling
Exactly this. I'd quit watching WWE. I kinda read Cageside and all but I was so done with how bad the weekly product was and the bullshit terminology and I just wanted my pro wrestling. I'm a diehard AEW fan, ordered every PPV, but I've enjoyed Mania this year and I hope people like Cody can drag WWE back towards a more serious product that is watchable and enjoyable. Wrestling is much better off when everyone succeeds.
As someone who watched RAW and Smackdown for a month straight a few months back to give WWE a fair chance and watches AEW each week here's some things you need to know if you gonna watch WWE 1) yes you are seeing the same matches for the 4th time 2) yes they actually think this is hysterical 3) yes those are the equivalents of the TNT belt that apparently don't seem to mean anything 4) yes those are like 10 camera cuts when nothing is happening in the ring in the span of like 25 secs 5) yes that's actually all the tag teams they have on each roster 6) yes that's actually how they ended the program 6) yes those are indeed fake crowd noises 7) yes that was actually a recap of what happened before the commercial break
I appreciate Cody's transparency so much. It's refreshing in this modern era. He's genuine, and you can feel that. He is potentially right at the apex of his career, with all he's done in the past 6 years. He's absolutely right that his and Seth's match was a "gimme", a free ride if you will. I enjoyed the match, and think they both did great, but moving forward is the true test of if this was the right move for him. Where do they go now? I for one, anticipating where it goes from here. Cody is a completely different man and wrestler than when he was in WWE last. I think he's got a little more weight to pull around with creative, because of this. He's not afraid to ruffle some feathers, so it's exciting that there's a possibility he could help bring some much needed life to the way WWE does things. He's just one man of course, he's not a "savior", but I think he's got one of the best chances within the current roster, to help make an impact with how things are done. Thank you for uploading this interview, I really enjoyed it. 🙏😊
Virgins like this will never be able to grasp this concept ^^ Cody is doing what's best for his family, TK simply didn't want to give him what he was worth.
It’s the Stone Cold story for me!!! I hope Cody does well in his return. Must have been a tough thing to do. But like they say, it’s better to feel uncomfortable pushing for better than feel uncomfortable settling for less.
God I love this guy. Don’t care what anyone says, he’s done the most by any pro wrestler within the last decade. Still feels surreal. I was literallly shaking when his music hit. Didn’t expect him to keep that theme since it was essentially about Leaving WWE, but maybe it makes sense to keep using it as everything comes full circle. Will never understand the hate this guy gets. Sure, he’s a mark for himself so to speak but so isn’t every other pro wrestler. Hoping he strives as a top guy
He definitely brings in this new emotion and strong comeback story. Family and such is huge and you can tell he's a good dude. Hard not to cheer for. Hoping big things!
He's definitely keeping the theme too...he's said since that the theme song/American Nightmare name/Cody Rhodes look and gear w/ trademark ™️ *FUGLY TATTOO* is all a part of the package deal he signed that Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard agreed to when they flew to Cody's Nightmare Factory or whatever he lives??? Fantastic! I don’t think I’ve seen a single WWE media scrum in my entire life. AEW started doing them and it’s a favorite of a lot of us wrestling fans that we never saw before. Now….Cody gets it and I’m sure this scrum event is something he brought over. I hope they keep doing these.

Exactly like drew McIntyre, Matt Cardona now, Christian cage, the list goes on of wrestlers who where mid card in WWE left and returned main event stars. Cody is not unique in that.
The way he talks so freely and casually about AEW, NJPW, ROH in a WWE environment is unprecedented and a real breath of fresh air. Cody truly is a game changer. Hopefully it remains that way throughout his future there.
Cody did all he could do in AEW. He locked himself outta the main title picture for the fans. Im happy as hell to see him back in WWE. Idk what his reasons are and i dont really care. They are his and his alone. He has been such a huge part of changing wrestling outside the machine that is wwe/ i cant wait to see what he does inside that machine

@@lordnikon5736 yeah but dont wry now wwe geeks wont say anything about aew taking ex wwe wrestlers now they took in the sane guy who they thought was useless at that tome..its big slap on vince’s face😬
I think him "locking himself out of the AEW title" essentially was the turning point for Cody in that company. Should’ve figured out a way to re-introduce to the main even scene, but sloppy, inconsistent booking (and Cody's outside endeavors) killed that. So, here we are...best of lucky to Cody and hopefully he'll get at least one run with the strap.
@@joecool8290 cummon man it wasn’t about that title picture they would have easily figured out a way for that…its a cody thing he goes for money and spotlight wherever he gets even if his decision made him look like a complete double standard dickhead….AEw doesn’t need cody but cody needed this return to make more money to get that spotlight and to prove to vince that they mada a mistake to overlook his talent way back
This is actually a really good “tell all”. He seems to be genuine, and he’s really putting over AEW. Talking about being proud of what he, Matt, Nick, Kenny, and Tony did… creating jobs and feeding talents families through a global pandemic, that can’t be argued. I think a lot of the issues with Cody don’t come from his exit, but in HOW he did it. The promo saying “the mailed me a contract, but not the one I wanted”, and whatever behind the scenes things happened to make the man decide to leave his creation. But, again he’s being very magnanimous in his words regarding Tony Khan and AEW, and that I can respect.
Dusty was awesome on promos, Dustin's showmanship is next level and Cody is masterful with these types of interviews. Hopefully they continue them outside of mania.
This is the first time I've witnessed Cody speak to this extent while also being so loose, easy & overall charismatic. This Q & A looked & felt not only like it was incredibly easy for him but it was also coming to him so naturally too. That's including the whole time he spent away from WWE too. He was definitely a lot more himself during that time but it still felt like he was forcing it a little and trying to be more like The Bucks or Kenny than he really is. Cody possess a more inherently "WWE type" in-ring style and persona than most AEW performers. Whether that's good or bad is subjective but at this point I would say Cody started out in the wrestling industry by learning to be a "WWE Superstar" so he's probably always gonna be that before any other type of performer. Also it had to have taken a lot to be this candid & confident coming back. Vince's track history with grudges and the reportedly shaky circumstances surrounding Cody's exit does make this very surprising. Even after hearing it for months I wasn't sold that it was certain. Cody is arguably responsible for WWE losing a huge portion of the marketshare they held for so long. He helped give rise to the first viable competition Vince has had in the past 2 decades or so. Anyways... I have no idea why I spent so much time even writing this comment.
Cody is great and as sad as I was when he left AEW, I 100% understood it when he came out at WM on the biggest stage and I knew it was the place he needs to be right now. Congratulations Cody!!
Cody’s time away from WWE has definitely changed his perspective and attitude about the PW business. It’s pretty cool to have all that come full circle and to have him return to WWE now.

Cody hitting the nail on the head really, competition is good for the fans, for the companies and for the wrestlers. In a age where we can't be locked into one company or one area, wrestling and sports entertainment are global. Not saying AEW and WWE need to be best pals, Vince and Tony going for Sunday dinners etc, but the best way forward is to have that healthy competition, that grounding to grow together and expand the world of wrestling. Fingers crossed with someone like Cody who knows that in the camp, he can help push the company into a direction of constant improvements, which us fans will lap up every time.
@@wooperman6960 I think that's something that is important though, it's perfectly okay to have preferences to either a company or a wrestler/stable within, but we are in a age that it's incredibly easy to access videos, clips etc from anywhere. WWE's refusal to acknowledge the Wrestling World outside of WWE just hurt some great dream matches in the past an as exiting as thos matchup you proposed seem I can't help to be a little hesitant to wait and see if WWE will actually do these matches justice if they do them at all.

People keep saying he did so much but no one really says what He actually did so theres that hinestly. AEW grew and He moved on Good for Him. He isnt throwing shade at AEW and He shouldnt. The main takeaway from all of this is that active wrestlers cannot Be Presidents or Vice Presidents of a company. Its too much. Like Cody He took Himself out of the title picture because it would look bad. We know from the Bucks always being the Title Holders it looked bad. Kenny pulled it off as a heel but had to get the IMPACT belt as well or He would look a mess. One of WCW's biggest issues was having active wrestlers help run it. You cannot do both and keep your name.
Cody did wrestling a favor creating AEW. It made an amazing product and gave WWE the kick in the ass it needed to step up its game. AEW in the context of pure wrestling and storyline is still miles ahead of WWE but the size of WWE gives Cody the opportunity to experiment with new stories and directions that could help elevate the whole company

What Cody did is brilliant and hasn't been done before, that I know of.. Whether it was his intent or not he told a story, created a narrative decoupled from any organization or creative he didn't control. He told it across different platforms and he carried it all the way back to WWE. It's truly phenomenal and no one's done it like this-transcendent stuff really.
I became a real Cody Rhodes fan the moment he posted that list after leaving the WWE, and I'm glad to say that I'm still a fan and loved his return. Don't let tribalism take your enjoyment out of wrestling. A lot of what they do its stupid and it sucks but in the words of Max Landis: ''when its good its fucking great''.
Cody is a much better wrestler now than when he left. I'm glad WWE kept everything the same with him and didn't go back to any old gimmicks. He's earned that respect. Welcome home, Cody 🧡💙

7:11 after saying that he's done what he wanted in the independence and now a whole lot more of wrestler's families and kids are being able to be taken care of.., he proceeded to say "Now I want to go do something for me." I was under the impression that Cody, the person or character, set out on to this anti WWE persona, claiming that WWE disrespected his father and that Pro wrestling is bigger than WWE, was what Cody wanted to do for himself. Now seeing him backtrack on that is confusing and felt all the appeal he had for me was all mostly gone. It's his career and his life, and so it's his decision to Do whatever, but you cant help but feel betrayed when you've stuck by his career since his WWE departure 6 years ago.
This is the very first AEW to WWE switch and so far AEW deserves credit for helping him showcase how big of a star he can actually be.. AEW has to be careful that they don't become a free performance centre for developing WWE talent but let's see if Cody's run goes right
As much as I hope his dreams come true, I wonder where he will be in a year or two. Though, the same can be said for AEW and what they have done with Ruby and others... I really hope his dreams can come true this time and we can see The Nightmare become a Dreammaker. 💖💖💖

As someone who watched RAW and Smackdown for a month straight a few months back to give WWE a fair chance and watches AEW each week here's some things you need to know if you gonna watch WWE
1) yes you are seeing the same matches for the 4th time
2) yes they actually think this is hysterical
3) yes those are the equivalents of the TNT belt that apparently don't seem to mean anything
4) yes those are like 10 camera cuts when nothing is happening in the ring in the span of like 25 secs
5) yes that's actually all the tag teams they have on each roster
6) yes that's actually how they ended the program
6) yes those are indeed fake crowd noises
7) yes that was actually a recap of what happened before the commercial break
No you don’t , just watch his segments on RUclips, don’t suffer through raw

@@tonyo2675 Very talented family

100% spot on. Doesnt need to be either aew or wwe… its okay to like both and I do aswell have prefrences but both companies have done excellent
@@wooperman6960 I think that's something that is important though, it's perfectly okay to have preferences to either a company or a wrestler/stable within, but we are in a age that it's incredibly easy to access videos, clips etc from anywhere.
Take before RUclips, here in the UK it was extremely hard to find anything NJPW related, now I can RUclips matches I want to see etc. It's just so easy to consume content that it's just pointless to lock yourself into one if that makes sense.

Can not believe he is back as the Nightmare in WWE night 1 for Wrestlemania was amazing 👏.
How bout that stone cold match. That was great to see
The American Nightmare 💀 is a breath of fresh air around here. I really enjoyed this also making a reference to the movie Tommy boy geez what happened to your face it hurts here not here as much but here. And mentioning my hometown Laredo.
Man never thought I'd say this but he definitely a future legend just by helping wrestling by getting rid of the pc era alone by creating competition and going back to rival company.
I like how he still puts over AEW it’s subtle but he puts them over a lot. It’s good. This is good.
Hopefully WWE doesn't Change anything about Cody Rhodes Keep him the same way he was in AEW Keep the Music The Presentation the way he wrestles if WWE does that Cody wouldn't be the only one to "Defect"
They won't. I believe the WWE will keep Cody's music entrance the same as AEW, New Japan Wrestling, and IMPACT Wrestling.
They hit home run the first night but we shall see in 6 months how he book
@@TonyKanameKuran believe he owns the rights to the theme/song
@@Seth-se5ln just cause ge owns the rights doesn't mean they won't give him something else
@@Seth-se5ln 100% truth!
He needed this interview. When the people speak for you the message gets confused.
Man that time in Aew was the best thing that happened to him. He came back a polished, experienced ,and full of wisdom. Came back a top tier talent.
As a man, you can hear the growth in this man as he speaks. What a well spoken, aware of himself, man he has grown to be. Good for you my guy.
Good to hear from Cody, and always pushing for more. Keep that up.
With regard to hiring everyone from the Open Challenge, that wasn't accurate, still haven't seen Warhorse since then.
Wish you all the best Cody, give 'em hell. Play the game, it'll always be about pro wrestling. 🖖
Thanks for uploading this. Great to watch.
Cody is such a pro, he has a great future in pro wrestling whenever he decides to hang up the boots.
Always a Cody fan. Stuck with him through everything so glad to see him prove everybody wrong and then come full circle.
7:11 after saying that he's done what he wanted in the independence and now a whole lot more of wrestler's families and kids are being able to be taken care of.., he proceeded to say "Now I want to go do something for me."
I was under the impression that Cody, the person or character, set out on to this anti WWE persona, claiming that WWE disrespected his father and that Pro wrestling is bigger than WWE, was what Cody wanted to do for himself. Now seeing him backtrack on that is confusing and felt all the appeal he had for me was all mostly gone.
It's his career and his life, and so it's his decision to Do whatever, but you cant help but feel betrayed when you've stuck by his career since his WWE departure 6 years ago.
he was constantly shitting on WWE when he was in AEW, even mentioned Gunther in his promo before the ladder match against Sammy. 😂

How well does Cody come across in this press conference? Seems like a really genuine bloke! Great to listen to his insights
Im happy for COdy. I hope he gets a major title and has a good run.
Thanks for posting this interview, Denise. Cody was well-spoken but authentic here. You couldn't sense any "PR speak" or "soundbyte" talk coming from him. He answered questions as straightforward as he could. Definitely a lot more respect than he had before with this media appearance.
Also, I loved how Cody acknowledged you and your reaction. Was an adorable moment
Cody really did everything he could in AEW. He couldn’t challenge for the world title and he already won the TNT belt 3 times. His stuff also looked so out of place in AEW, entrance attire attitude promo, it was so WWE. He already a legend just for starting AEW, I’m glad dude made the jump and I hope he does well.
He didn't start AEW
Tony Khan started AEW. Get it right buddy.
Tony and the Bucks started AEW, chill out with those claims
@@themadcat5288 Exactly! Cody was the one of the founders. Not the founder.
@@edgar22452 well yea I should’ve reworded it by saying he’s already made history/a legacy as being one of the founding fathers of AEW. The bucks and Kenny too. TK should take most of the credit for starting AEW, but let’s not pretend the EVPs did nothing.
