Thoughts about my 2024 in collecting, what is to be and what is to hopefully come through my doors.
And new year, new list of targeted records. 24 for 2024.

Plus all the 7"s I bought in 2023.

My goal last year of only buying 1 album per month was blown out of the water, so I think I will do something similar to you and stream albums on my want list before buying, and selling off albums that I don’t listen to anymore to help with funds, but I will be going full force on the reggae and hip hop 12 inch records they are too much fun to spin, looking forward to seeing what you dig up this year
Sounds like you have your marching orders Dean lol. I like the prioritization and goal-setting aspect. This year I hope it results in me spending less money or records I can't process. We shall see. I failed last year and 2024 started with a bang yikes. But I am settling in. Hope you are well
Nice to see see/hear your wish list for 2024. I’m impressed by your organization and goals; it’s something I need to work on. I’m too often running with my impulses & urges on new acquisitions. (However, It does occasionally serve me when I find something new). But I need a deeper commitment to my want list. For example, I’m a huge fan of dub (Keith Hudson…) but you wouldn’t know it by looking at my collection. Maybe I have a dozen dub albums. Oh…That Pretty Things record is a stunner. impressive 7’ collection too. Between your video, Stunty and BipBopBoom showcasing the glories of the 7’ single (and EPs), I am very encouraged to make more time for this format. Interesting and fun video, Dom. Well believe me I will acquire stuff outside this list, last year showed that as much. SF Sorrow is an old favorite and a top 100 psych LP for me. Curious to see where things land this time next year!
The Nahogany Brain CD reissue has a bonus track, that is making the original LP sound super tame, unfortunately. I'm hoping for a reissue of that, eventually.

It appeals to me, sounds like it should've been made later. Freaks in a basement...or I would imagine as much. Like the Inscir Transit Express LP ha
Happy New Year, thanks for the quick mention! I have definitely enjoyed just scrapping my "formula" in the second half of last year and just showing whatever and whenever I feel like it.
As Fred mentioned below its so easy to get caught on the hamster wheel which I was definitely doing. I remember often thinking "my new arrivals are piling up, i really need to make a video"

Ha, I've had these thoughts of course. It's defeating the purpose, hope to change that idea this year. It also helped to file every damn thing and just start playing what inspires me (on top of the very newest things haha) and that has given me clarity. Be well!
The best of luck with your want list, I've shortened mine as much as possible but as the Borg say 'resistance is futile'.

Awesome, I like having focus to the hunt. I also feel less shy about pulling the trigger on something expensive if its a real priority. Ok you've convinced me on the Amanset box. It is a very reasonable price too. Cheers to you!

Happy New Year. Enjoyed this video. Picked up "L'Univers-Solitude" after Stunty highlighted some other, less affordable' Capon release - lovely record. Subsequent to that I did buy the Capon, Morris, Rahoerson and Mate LP. Very different listing experience from :'Univers, but rewarding - equally pleased.Lastly, picked up a mint copy of "Tidal" Michael Byron as shown in one of your recent vids: the piece for four pianos is vigorous, but not too changeling. The title track is wonderful and worth the price of admission. Thank you very much.
Awesome Jon, glad you picked up on that Tidal. Its cheap and may stay that way. No one cares for some reason. There's some beauty in there. Looks like we're after some of the same records ha! Happy hunting
Ps David Hyke’s ‘Harmonic Meetings’ does sound more spiritually in tune than Prima Materia😉
Happy New Music Year Don🎶🌟Great intentions. I appreciate your collecting spirit which is inspirational in terms of opening up pandora’s boxes of music alongside Bigstar1000, Omaha Introvert and Discellany’s channels. At least those channels more along the line of the music I have been collecting and enjoying or currently open to.
As we discussed earlier I believe less is more and certainly in critical album collecting, distilling the most original and best crafted music by cross-review referencing and listening carefully. Being careful of ‘hypes’ as well. But I feel I have also been too conservative over the years as well, much influenced by an underground music magazine that existed in the Netherlands in 1980-90s called Opscene. With critical review focus on indie rock/pop, post-hardcore, post-punk, lo-fi, singer-songwriters and post-rock.
My intentions, that started in 2023, is to venture more into other territory’s, including avantgarde and classical. Also more backlogging into music I missed over the years or discarded perhaps with too much critique and that now - at a much older/wiser age 😆 - appeal to me.
I hear overtone singing in the background. In that music sphere I can recommend David Hyke’s Harmonic choir and the original Mongolian/Tuvan overtone singing.

Hey Erwin, love the intentions to move into new territories and genres. That appeals to me as well since I'm always looking to broaden what I may dig. With that comes, the loss of some time-worn records as tastes change but I'm ok with. Currently purging a bunch of indie stuff I don't see myself listening to much anymore. Not that I don't like it, just may not get played. It's always more interesting this way. I actually have the Harmonic Choir, or one of them anyway, on Ocora. Dig it for sure. I am always nervous to show people what I am after given the possibility they could be swooped. But I could see the flip side of having others lookout for you. I guess that’s your secret list. I do have one on my list I think you ended up getting that Tony Scott Djanger I was talking with a discogs seller for a while and I believe you ended up scoring. Snooze you lose. It’s high on my list this year though. I hope you get some of these this year. Cheers!
Yo Jason. Yes so far it was worked out and I've located 4 titles from my list. All from people helping me out and identifying things. I'm sure it will go the other way too but this way feels more fun to me. Djanger Bali is a beauty. Was able to get that from europe for a pretty friendly price. I'm sure you'll track it down ;)
Peace Dom, the palate cleanser reference continues to resonate- when I don't opt for quiet, there are some key pieces I go to. The "new vinyl in my life" was a hit imo, mainly due to the variety and overviews. Stay solid.

So now I have to write down all these goals again and then keep reminding you your falling off track. I suck at knowing what I want to pick up, I’m just to spontaneous Restraint is the key, I suck at it.
Targets are for suckers perhaps too. I do need reminding to stay focused so anytime you want to chime in with that, I'll take it!

It’s a trap, this buying records and then showing. You never get enough time to fully know anything and then there’s new records. Feels like a hamster on the wheel.
This is why I'm giving up buying records in 2024, Fred. Going back to baseball cards. 😎
