  • We get asked how to sharpen all sorts of things that aren't knives but the most commonly we get asked how to sharpen broadheads. We brought on our resident experts to show their favorite ways to sharpen broadheads before the archery season starts. Sharpening your broadheads is a responsible step to get ready for the upcoming archery season and making sure your gear is ready to perform in the field.
There is no one way to do it, and despite several tools being created to sharpen broadheads we haven't found one way that clearly does it all, or does it easily. So here is our take on how we like to sharpen our broadheads.
    How do you sharpen yours?

we use 125 grain Thunderhead. Been using these since I started hunting. They have never failed me. I have shot clean through leg bones. I love them. I have tried other broadheads and had a lot of the blades break off going through the deer. I have had mechanicals not open. The cheaper the broadhead, the weaker they are. My sister and her husband use mechanical but got away from them when a lot of them failed to open. Whatever works for people is great.

as a lifelong shooter of single bevel broadheads, I would never suggest angling the stone so the edge is the only ground portion of the bevel. ALWAYS grind the entire bevel angle and keep the flat side flat, DON'T angle it to knock off the burr ! you can get single bevel heads as sharp or even sharper than replaceable blades. Just my humble opinion and experience.

Creating a small back-bevel is common on all sorts of single-bevel knives and tools.

I use the gfs to touch up my qad exodus broadhead replaceable blades, works good for me. Allows me to test every head and touch up before hunting.

2 blade on wood shafts pretty much..
Have expanding blades that I haven't shot yet , need to be cut to 29 inchs.
    Crossbow , anything 150 grain.
    I realy like a heavy-duty 3 blade...
    Thanks

😂 if you hit right behind the crease and low enough to drain out I think you could be good for a 1 and done. As long as it's sharp of course. Just garbage material so it won't last past 1 deer would be my guess. Stay away from the shoulder!!!
