Thank you kindly! I worked really hard on this video and it just didn’t get the views but then again how many people are actually gonna play with a thumb pic?
Hey Steve! Thanks so much! I wish this video got more views because I think it could really help people who are interested in picking the style up! Keep in touch and let me know how it goes
Conn! thank you so much for taking the time to watch this video! I wanted to make something for people who are interested in this style of playing that will help them to cut years off of their progress. Thank you for the kind words and for the support!
Colin! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch this video! I actually made a new thumbnail because I felt that not enough people were giving this a gander. It's nice to know that it was appreciated by somebody. A lot of these secrets that I put in this video we're hard fought and it's nice to know that somebody appreciates all the time it took to make this! Please share this video if you think that I could help somebody else and do subscribe it would be great to have you on board!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 _ Hi, It’s an invaluable lesson for me - Last few years I’m trying to cross over from Fingerstyle / Classical to Jazz electric and the thumb pick gives me lots more possibilities than just straight fingers - Brilliant lesson and now an avid follower 🎸
You know I was just thinking about this video. I wish I'd gotten more views. Then again, maybe about 400 people know who Brent is. Oh well… Glad you got something out of it!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 I don't understand why so few are viewing this video, but it's really great stuff! Thanks man for the time you are putting in with these videos, greatly appreciate it!
That's true, Eric! It's just that it doesn't fit with this style AT ALL!Then again, you can always find examples of how it could , but from my perspective this is a thing all unto itself! Thank you so Much for taking the time to watch this video and I hope you do subscribe as it would be great to have you onboard!
Great video thanks! Been playing Brent's style for awhile now and like you probably, I've spent a lot of time watching him pick. On a number occasion I've noticed brent down picking a lot of the notes on the wound strings as opposed to alternating between thumb and fingers. and he also switches back and forth between flat picking and his style on songs. seems to happen more on rocky bluesy stuff.
Indeed, Kevin! He actually does a lot of down picks everywhere depending upon what it is that he's playing. But like you said, usually the more rock stuff you'll see that! If you look at some of my videos in the #shorts you'll see that I use the thumb pic actually more like a flat pic these days. I'm in economy picker, so that requires a lot of upkeep! Actually I think all sorts of picking requires upkeep whether it's Brents style or whatever. I just wish that this video got more airborne. There's nobody who has explained all the things that I have explained in this video on RUclips. And for people who are interested in playing the style, I believe the information can save them years of frustration! Oh well… Not every video is a winner! But, I'm certainly happy that you enjoyed it!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 a lot of value in this video for ppl wanting to learn his style, definitely help players bypass a lot of pain. And its great how you demonstrated the speed picking using that style. Its a definite winner, I was just adding to it by providing some of my own observations of his playing. I think the essence of Brent's playing technique is efficiency even with his left hand technique which is a little astray from convention. For country bending and picking the thumb pick seems to be the best way to go, just gives a player so much freedom. Interestingly, I think Jerry Reed was the originator of the style to some degree which makes sense since Brent has noted him as a big influence of his.
Great in-depth breakdown, man! Love the detail
Appreciate it! Thanks as always for you lunatic support!
WOW…. Really some great teaching and playing. Really appreciate your time and effort making this video.

I'm new to Brent Mason and finger picking and your video is the best, exactly what I needed!!

Fair play to you, this is very clear and thorough, and fantastic playing too. 👏👏👏

Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how much that means to me… Especially in Lieu of the fact that this video is just not getting a lot of views.

Great video and breakdown 👍 best to you man 🎸
Thanks so much! It's a shame I only have 70 views on this SMH. If you only knew the amount of time it took to do this… Thanks again!

learning flamenco style is a great start to using the fingers for picking and especially picking with all fingers on a single string

I tried a thumb pick for hours.. I just couldn't get the feeling of it. It sits on my thumb totally different angle than the pick when I hold it
Did you try many different kinds? They are indeed tough to get a handle on. Thank you kindly for watching the video!
