The sad thing is that the real Bird Road Rapist was never found and an innocent man spent 26 years in prison for HIS crimes when he was still out there. That’s absolutely messed up bro.

Would love to hear what that corrupt district attorney had to say after Diaz was proven innocent. He should be in the same jail that Diaz had to serve along with the cops who helped frame him.

Solved. Soon after the broadcast, Lynn got in contact with an organization that helps children from the Tennessee Children's Home Society find their families. One of the organization's members was able to locate Lynn's birth announcement. Within a few days, she had found Lynn's birth family. Three weeks later, she was reunited with her father and two half-brothers, Paul and Randall.
In January 1990, thanks to the broadcast, Nancy was able to locate and reunite with her sister, Evelyn Routh, after forty years. Alma Sipple, a woman whose daughter, Irma, was taken by Tann in 1946, saw the broadcast and contacted the telecenter, asking for help in locating her. Seven months later, they were joyfully reunited.

Update: in 2003, using DNA evidence from one victim's rape kit was sent to a lab to be compared to Diaz. The DNA was found to not match Diaz.
As a result of this evidence, on August 3, 2005, Diaz was released after serving more than twenty-five years in prison. He was then reunited with his family, who threw a party to celebrate his release. In 2007, he sued the city of Miami for wrongful imprisonment. In July of 2012, he received $1.3 million.

After the broadcast, two of the rape convictions were vacated after the two victims recanted their identifications. However, Diaz remained in prison for the other rape convictions. In 2003, however, DNA evidence from one victim's rape kit was sent to a lab to be compared to Diaz. The DNA was found to not match Diaz. DNA from another rape kit was found to match the DNA from the first rape kit, which also eliminated Diaz as being responsible. All other rape kits had since been destroyed.
Unfortunately, the real "Bird Road Rapist(s)" has never been brought to justice. However, Virginia Snyder noted that she later determined the true identity of the rapists. Her informant (mentioned above) was Luis Nunez, who told her that his three friends, fellow gang members, were the actual rapists. However, Nunez died in 1994 without ever being interviewed by police. The names of the other men were never disclosed publicly. Virginia herself passed away in 2017.

The serial rapist case. That’s why I ALWAYS question cases where the cops are given the benefit of the doubt. Unless there is a smoking gun piece of evidence proving the suspect did it or they confess I will ALWAYS have a shred of doubt in my mind. At the end of the day cops don’t like cold cases and sometimes are far to eager to book a suspect

on the last story let me get this straight, you have the mother give the photo of her son and the newspaper photo to an expert to determine if the 2 people are the same? Shouldn't the mother be the most qualified expert there is in determining weather or not the man's photo in the paper is her son?

In 2001, investigators received a break in the case when a new witness came forward. The witness had been arrested on unrelated charges when he admitted to investigators that he had helped dispose of gasoline-soaked clothes and other evidence on the night of the 1988 fire. The witness, who was fifteen at the time of the fire, claimed that he was a lookout for Jamaican drug dealers in South Oak Cliff. He gave street names for three suspects: "Freddy Krueger", "Curly Diamond", and "Silky". As a result of this information, investigators re-interviewed several witnesses, who began to name possible suspects. Other suspects were nicknamed "Lupe", "Coolie", and "Soldier".
One witness claimed that Freddy Krueger and Lupe had beat him and forced him to take them to the Jordan home just a few days before the fire. The witness also heard that Bernard had "ripped them off". Another witness claimed that on the night of the fire, the two drug dealers were talking about getting revenge on "B.J." which was Bernard's nickname. Shortly after the fire, the witness saw the two again. He claimed that they were laughing and joking about the sounds of people burning to death. Yet another witness, a former girlfriend of Lupe, asked him if he had set the fire, and he said that he did. He also said that it was done to settle a debt.
The drug dealer know as "Curly" and "Freddy Krueger" was eventually identified as Curly Diamond. He was also known as Milton Lee Hunter Jr., David Broadbelt and David Wilson. Investigators learned that he was killed in a New York subway shoot out in 1992, which ironically remains unsolved. According to investigators, he was the "mastermind" behind the arson fire.
The drug dealer known as "Lupe" was identified by several witnesses as Vincent Lamont Thomas; he had been questioned initially but was let go. In 2001, he was arrested and charged with capital murder in the case. Unfortunately, prosecutors felt that they did not have enough evidence to bring him to trial, and the charges were dropped in August of 2005. However, the prosecutors noted that he can be arrested again if new evidence surfaces.
Investigators identified "Silky" and learned that he had also died in an unrelated shooting. They also identified "Coolie" and "Soldier" but have been unable to locate them. The police now consider the case closed, but unresolved.

I realize it was a poor neighborhood, but - no back door on that house where five kids died?! And why was the poor grandmother stuck with all that responsibility?! No wonder why that kid got mixed-up with the wrong type! ... There is a newspaper article on the survivor, as well as the arsonist and even its appearances on this show- www.dallasobserver.com/news/out-of-the-ashes-6387268

I feel with the bird road rapist case the rapist said don’t look at me so how could they positively identify him, these women were going based on their emotions they were scared, their mind sets were probably I’ll never feel safe unless he is behind bars, when they mentioned that he looked different to all the women some were short or clean shaven short tall I feel it was more then one guy, possibly a gang. The cops were also just being lazy and trying to end the investigation

When police ‘like’ someone for a crime, they’ll make the evidence fit. It’s disgusting to watch in motion. I dunno if it’s laziness on the PD’s part for not investigating further or a preloaded racist perspective that railroaded that man. Just wow.
I’ve worked in restaurants for most of my career. I came home smelling like pizza for a couple jobs. But I didn’t come home smelling like garlic. I get a garlicky fragrance when I cook at home. Sticks to your fingers real good.
The detective that accused Diaz of not working as a line cook bc he didn’t reek of garlic has never cooked nor knows anyone doing restaurant work. Yeah, ooh, whatta smoking gun, he doesn’t smell right for his type of work. I’d imagine that flipping crap on a hot griddle all day would impart a smoky smell. Garlic? Get outta here….
