    The Transit is immediately easier to drive and I think it's because it's a passenger van without seats where the Promaster is a delivery van they might put seats in (if you get my drift). Maybe I'm spoiled on the Ford, though because I've driven many different configurations...Passenger, cargo, handicapped (short bus type) and even armored.

    Promaster 280 degree doors are available as an option. Pretty cheap too. Also the both vans are built and designed with load in mind so you really can't judge the ride quality empty. If they did that would be a great sales tactic.

    thank you for this side by side review, very helpful. I will put my observations about "cockpit" in promaster which I test drove today which I have also put on other videos as I think it's very important for some people. I
    was surprised to discover that the seating was VERY uncomfortable for me
    in the sense that for my arms to reach the oddly tilted steering wheel
    comfortably (with only minimal telescoping ability and no tilt
    adjustment) , my knees were jammed up against the dash and you have no
    space to stretch your legs beyond a 90 degree angle at best. Now this
    will depend on your body configuration of course; I'm a 5'8" female and
    my arms are a little short relative to my legs. Women tend to have
    shorter torsos compared to men but relatively longer legs/inseam. and
    then there's arm length. I liked everything else about how the promaster
    drove and handled, but couldn't imagine a cross country trip with that
    short space up front for my legs and no room to stretch them out even a
    little. this was with the seat height maxed out already. It may help to
    bring a booster cushion to give legs a bit more stretch room, but
    seating position already very high. Anyway, all this to say best to
    test drive one before you buy as individual anatomy and "cockpit"
    configuration can make or break it for you.

      I really wanted a 2020 promaster but thankfully test drove one and experienced the exact same thing about the 'reach' to the steering wheel. i'm also 5'8" and my leg was jammed up against the dash just to get my arms at a comfortable feel on the steering wheel.

    Interesting comparison, thanks. For me, I am looking at the new Super high roof Promaster, which is much taller than either the transit or sprinter, remains much wider, and slightly shorter than the Transit, so much more interior space, bigger roof for solar panels, vents, etc and sharper turn radius. Lower deck height than the other two. I do like the Transit side channels for electrics etc, but the Promaster wins for me.

      The one you see in this video was a 250 with a regular v6. My new one is a 350 with the EcoBoost. The EcoBoost gets about a mile and a half more on average per gallon so I would say that they're basically almost the same. At 80 miles an hour drives just like an F-150 and totally quiet

    • @vacayalldayeveryday
      @vacayalldayeveryday  3 года назад +2

      We typically do white because a lot of van lifers like to stay stealthy so it looks more like a electrician or plumber truck when parked in a random parking lot. I would find any dealer that has the package that you're looking for as they're getting fuel and far between with the boom and Amazon snatching them all up for delivery vehicles. Both the 250 and the 350 work great. I don't think the 150 model would have enough payload to carry a build out in gear.

I know the ram is a wider interior but can the ford do side ways sleeping? My rough budget for just the van is like $25K, lower the miles the better, some ford stuff sounds better, some ram seems better, but the side to side bed is a must. Any input , thanks. Are the 2015- 2019’s problematic either brand?

    • @vacayalldayeveryday
      @vacayalldayeveryday  3 года назад +3

      Check out listing on RV trader walk through video of the Transit. It's a full size bed sideways in the back. We only build out new vans and not sure about any problematic issues with the older ones. The nice thing about the Ford is that they're built on the f250 and 350 chassis and the Ford trucks have been the number one selling vehicle for the last 50 years in America so it's easy to get worked on and anything new in 2015 would be covered under recalls anyway.
      Hope this helps.

      Just a thought.... Mercedes and BMW and VW - all German - have a reputation of over engineering many systems. And then they keep doing it, despite high fail rates. The parts are Uber expensive, Labor must almost be done by only their mechanics because of computer requirements which is also very expensive. Look at a 5-8 year old Mercedes anything and you will see a huge depreciation because the used market is telling you how unreliable they are in the long run. ALL Mercedes Sprinter owners will say “yeah maintenance is expensive but...” and it is easy to gloss over that statement. But be careful in doing that. Paying $1000 for brakes is NOT normal. Paying $500 for a simple belt replacement is excessive. Not to mention bad motor actuators, oil leaks, valve seals, etc. They are money pits in the long run. Just some thoughts on ALL German cars.

I literally believe it's how much you're doing highway driving and how heavier foot is because when you're only seeing about 1 to 2 mi per gallon difference you're literally depends on how much time you're spending on the highway or in town. I definitely would not consider that a factor as there's not enough discrepancy between the two to make a difference.

The Ford is definitley has better built body, The Doge though has the widest interior (if a person is 5'11" or less in height they can sleep sideways freeing up more interior space for other uses) and simplest van to work on overall. The Ford with the turbo motor is very powerful for the van. Yet the Dodge V6 is a proven reliable motor (They also use it in the Jeep models). The Dodge is used by the U.S. Post office. The Dodge is the choice for intial cost and long term low cost maintance but the Ford is the choice for more of a premium vehicle. Hard decisions for sure. The Ford does offer all wheel drive (and in 2022 a "Adventure Pkg") by the way which the Dodge does not.

      Why are they important? In EU, you drive short distances, at least much shorter then in USA. In US, taking a trip means 3-4-5k miles, that is a lot of road to cover and yes, these cup holders, you never can have enough of them.

      At first I thought that same thing. I then considered all the other items like sunglasses, phone, snack bar, tissues, wallet, .... all the other stuff that tends to float aroudn in the front on the middle tray in our minivan, but it would be great if there were specifc spots for those items in our vamper-can. :)

    Both junk.
    Of you want to see how structurally weak the Transit is, close that sliding door hard and watch the walls and roof vibrate. Like its doing the wave at a football game 🤣.
    BTW those black pads at rear corners are actually magnets that hold the rear doors in place when you open them all the way. Guess thats one good thing 🙃

      Yeah I know about the magnets. I'm actually putting together a video about when you cut in your windows and do any other modifications that you want to cover those in blue tape so that the little metal shards don't get on them. and I'd have to disagree with you I have friends that have sprinters I've owned the ProMaster and the transit when you slam the door on any of them they all shake when they're empty. When you build them out properly they're all the same on the inside. But to each his own.
