  • This violin by François Caussin was made in Neufchateau (France) around 1865. F. Caussin (1794-1866) trained with Louis Gaillard in Mirecourt before establishing his shop in his home town in 1815. He moved to Neufchateau in 1830, where he died in 1866. His work is neatly executed on Amati and Stradivari models, often in antiqued varnish in the style of J. B. Vuillaume, but of slightly lesser quality. His instruments are occasionally labelled 'Caussin Luthier, Neufchateau (Vosges)' but more often bear the names of classical Italian makers.
