You mention the jingly jangly bracelet as a negative…. I have two of these old seiko 5s, and absolutely LOVE that about these watches. I’m a kid of the 70s/80s and that’s how ALL metal bracelets were so the sound and feel gives me a wonderful feeling of nostalgia. Love the content!
Every time you say “STUNNAH!”, an angel gets his wings.
Hahahahaha
I think these will be massively sought after in the future, people will be kicking themselves for not picking one up when they were around $100. Just a classic watch that can appeal to a wide range of people and so versatile.
How when they are mass produced ?
@@MWA1407 Just like the SKXs were right...
@@matthewscott3689 sorry, please explain. I do not know alot about these watches, but I'm purchasing one because I love the design
While I think I've gotten the Seiko pieces I truly want, hell, I think I've found my all time "I can wear this every day and never get tired of it" baby thanks to Seiko - it's always nice to see other cool models that have passed by my own radar. Thanks for the vid Sir!
mind sharing your grail watch?
I’ve got an SNXS75 and champagne dial SNXS81 in stainless steel case. Put jubilees on them and they’re so classy.
Replacement oyster style bracket, replacing the crystal with a sapphire and swapping the back out with a slightly lower profile back and it’s the perfect watch.
Yes
I bought my first Seiko 5 about 16 years ago, I think it cost me about 40 quid. Still works and still looks good. The only thing I'd say is, I have the opposite problem to you, with my massive hands and wrists it looks a little bit smaller than I'd like. I guess we'd both agree that "normal" or mid size wrists would make it easier for choosing watches.
I collect divers, but love the simplicity of these. First time I’ve ever clicked a link and purchased a watch in ten years of collecting! First Joma Shop purchase too. Looking forward to it. 👍
Am about to pull the trigger on one of these… I fear I miss out like with the Skx back in the day… how much did you ended up paying?
How was it?
Seiko has such a huge and diverse catalog that no matter where you are in your journey they have a watch for you. If you had to limit yourself to one brand for the rest of your life you would have trouble finding one better than Seiko.
💯
Aside from Seiko, even Casio has a massive catalog of watches, whatever is there like a dive watch? (it has a watch for that), a field watch? (It has a watch for that) dressy events? (Yep, you've guessed, it has a watch for that.
Both Seiko and Casio are amazing watch brands, throw in Orient and Citizen. All 4 of em are freaking awesome
7:53 - "Draw a door? I don't know why we believe anything in that stupid BOOK!" Nice memorabilia, Russ! One of my all time favorite movies.
I got the white dial first. Then I saw someone with the grey one and I knew I had to have it too.
So yeah, now I have both of these in my collection as well.
Recently bought an SNXS79 from Vinted for £70. Such a good deal.
I got one and changed the bracelet to a solid one, the caseback to a slimmer one and the crystal from hardlex to a double domed saphire. Its looking and wearing much better now and it has become THE daily watch for me. It fits any clothing, is robust and you dont have to worry to scratch it like when you wear a luxury watch. Definitely my most loved watch!
Mind telling me where you sourced the caseback and bracelet?
Monsterwatches has the casebacks. Its a Dutch webshop
I have scratched every hardlex crystal I have ever worn within 72 hours including my SNXS79 fortunately in most cases sapphire upgrades are easy to source… Cheers!
My SNK355K1 is a really nice watch, and because it's silver, goes with any strap - these older 5's are really classy
I had a 7009-4040 blue dial in 1983 new it was great, buy these old late 70's and early 80's Japan made 5's they are superb.
Your wife is probably right. I'll be a grandpa in January and my only Seiko 5 is the new two-tone sports. Very "old man" but I love it. I also like that silver dial in the video. While I don't like the lack of hand winding and hacking of the old movements, I may have to pick that one up anyway just for the looks.
I just went to a watch service that fitted a 20 mm strap on my 19 mm Spirit and it just looks amazing. If it's a bit flexible, it will fit.
Paid £50 for mine brand new in the UK but that was 8 years ago. The case size and shape on my puny 6.5 inch wrist just looks fantastic
I’m wearing my snxs blue dial right now on a jubilee bracelet 😃 Beautiful watch!
Strongly agreed !!! Seiko is the king of all watches !!!
Nice review, but Dude! CNS Watchbands, Molequin, Delugs, and finally Watchgecko around the corner from you in the UK all have vast collections of 19mm straps. The time when you couldn't get a 21 or 19 mil strap is long gone.
If you get a Painswick in distressed brown, a vintage brown Clanville in chromeexcel leather, and a vintage red or vintage brown Radstock from Watchgecko, those will make that watch look like a million bucks. Pick up two NATO straps, a black and an olive, and you've got combinations to work with for all occasions.
Very versatile watches. More so than my current Grand Seiko. :)
Recently picked up the Sports 5 version of this watch (AKA DressKX). Same beautiful dial and looks amazing with any outfit.
You can wear it to the office or on a hike. With a suit or with jeans. For $100-200 these are a steal!
I remember buying a grey dial one for £70 back in the days, was a steal then! Struggling to find a decent 19 mm bracelet though
There's a place in purgatory for watch people who insisted that their models have 19mm.
which model is this? is it snxs75?
@@sidiksakti767 snxs79
Seiko is a must watch to add to your collection if you are a watch enthusiasts
I've got the '73. Lovely. Lume is insane. I Put it on black leather.
I have these 2 watches. After purchasing them, I have changed the bracelet and crystal hardlex to as sapphire crystal
I have seiko 5 watch my grandfather used to wear i shortened it a bit to fit my hand and still works after all this time i still wear it
Good looking watches for the money. Find a nice strap and you have a great every day watch.
I just bought a skx 5 orange dial jdm with kanji. Stunning on a blue band.
I'm torn between three four watches, which one should I buy?
Seiko Sur311P1, Seiko SBTR027, Seiko snxs79 and Edifice EFR-S108D
Which one is better?
I have the darker model and I really enjoy it on its jingly jangly bracelet.
These are both beautiful watches I have the same model with the dark blue dial. The only issue I have with it is the 36mm case should be 39mm+
Jingly Jingly Jangley! 😂😂 got to use this one again in future videos
Russ, Mu wife goes “ who’s this handsome watch reviewer?” I’m like “ He’s my buddy Russ, Britannic- we greet each other during J.Goodman’s Saturday off the cuff love show- don’t look at his hair for too long!!- you’ll fall in love with him!!” 😂😂😂
I have The 77 with jubilee and i love It. I've always wanted to understand why SEIKO doesn't make The classic 38 mm series 5 up. And not 37 mm as is common. Saludos desde Chile....!!!!
For those buying from Jomashop in the UK, be aware, taxes and VAT, just got an Orient Triton for 180$+20$ shipping,I had to pay 73£ on top for customs and VAT… not the deal of the century…
same happened to me with ashford...
I bought the SRPK17 after his review! I was SEIKO 5 READY!!
Those sunburst dials, definitely the star of the show. Agree about the bracelet but the applied logo and date surround definitely make up for it.
Awesome watches! I think buying discontinued in general is a great way to get a quality watch that isn't overpriced due to hype.
This one with crown on 3 and no 5 logo gone be the best buy.
Beautiful watches and tbh nowadays changing a 19mm strap is pretty easy (ebay anyone?) That said, I'd opt for the SNKL23J1...just a better all round design with a better bracelet and polishing and brushingnon both...thays just me though 😊 keep up the great content
"Boring, but in a really horrible way"...... 😂😂 best wife's comment yet!
Hahahahaha
I have the mid-80’s version of these with the smoked grey dial, the watch is scratched in various places but still going strong, shame I can’t post a pic
The bracelet is my biggest pet peeve with these. Good thing there are many 3rd party straps and solid bracelets online you can buy. The jubilee one is amazing. Easily elevates this watch instantly.
I bought 3rd party brazelet and the watch improved a lot. But still don´t use this watch so much because it does not have any system to stop seconds when setting the time and also no manual winding. Not a big fan of this movement, I prefer other movements from Seiko.
I concur. Jubilee is the way to go, offering brushed sides and polished center links.
The BEST end links you can buy for the SNXS line is from Uncle Seiko; you can get them a-la-cart or with the bracelet which is also top notch.
I opted to get the end links and pick up SKX013 stock jubilees. I LOVE the jingle jangle and it feels more substantial than the snxs stock 3link bracelet.
I got the silver dial with gold on a black leather, and it’s honestly become one of my favourite watches. Can wear it pretty much anywhere and people will wonder what the heck it is. Love it!
There's nothing more satisfying than people complementing you on a budget watch. Shows you have an eye for design and art rather than just brand names and thick gaudy watches.
great feature and entertaining edits. Might get one for me and one for my 14 year old brother!
Amaizing time pieces.
Why would anyone trust your opinion, when you admit you were given these watches to shill for Jomashop... Derp...
Third favourite watch brand after rolex and tudor. Love the quality for the price it’s unrivalled . I own 3 seikos and all three work perfectly 10 years later .
I've owned these and half a dozen other classic Seiko 5s over the years. They're beautiful watches that collectors like us would love, but if someone coming into the hobby today had $100 to buy a watch, I'd steer them towards a Chinese brand instead. Those come with better bracelets, sapphire crystals, and even better Seiko movements inside. Great show as always!
Yeah I also think that NH35 is way better movement than the one which comes with this watch.
While true and the fact that Chinese brands on aliexpress such as Pagani that produce a large range of Seiko homages, the branding does give me a tickle.
@@BenitoCarmela I don’t mind the 7S26 movement if it’s going to be a watch I wear daily. But I constantly rotate watches. Doing the ‘Seiko shuffle’ and setting the time with the tiny crown got tiring really fast.
@@prettysoIdier completely agree, very few of them get that right. My favourite is probably Baltany, clean logo and a brand name that doesn’t sound like a word salad.
I would be happy with either one :^) . Could you do a video on "Graduation" watches that are affordable ?
Edit: Affordable is relative, as well as style. On the hunt for something that a young man may "like" becouse it was a gift but would always come back to it when things may get dressy or sporty
Orient Bambino, citizen Promaster Diver, and Casio Duro with a band change to a metal bracelet. These were my favorites starting off
@@CybertroninfiniteOfficial Thanks ! I really do like the choices you listed . I would like to have one of each for myself personally 😇. The Orient in my opinion would be a fantastic " safe choice" for all occasions, many different styles and colors .
Edit: I love Casio too . My current favorites are the 4500 and the mwa100 (love the dial and amazing light up with gentle fade) disliked the bracelet, a discount smartwatch 22mil silicone strap completely changed the watch. So nice now.
Cheers
@@lebowskiunderachiever3591 if you like Casios, try out the Casioak. A reach watch would the Casio Beside. I think a great cheap starter watch into mechanical and automatic would the Invicta Pro Diver
Awesome watches, the Rattle Snake bracelet is an acquired taste
Ive always loved the original Seiko 5 and had a few and have one at the moment. For the prices you used to get them for they did everything you wanted. Sadly a lot of people just point out its "faults", the movement, no sapphire, the WR, the bracelet etc. But none ultimately should stop you from buying and enjoying these
I bought My Dad the Graphite/grey dialed one not too long back, swapped out the bracelet for a better Seiko one I had kicking about tho.. fantastic watches for the price!
Monsterwatches has them in Europe, with options like sapphire, fluted bezel, solid oyster and slim caseback. So you can make it even more perfect
Seiko Citizen Casio Orient.
Best watches ever made .
Just to confirm the link you shared is the black dial do they have the dark grey dial as shown in your RUclips video? Thanks
Me and the missus have the white one. Had to get one after watching 'Up Tick Watch Reviews'. Then the wife started to rob mine all the time so got her one. They were cheap as chips in South East Asia but can't find them here any more. They're class!
The timing of this is wild. I bought the grey dial one two days ago…
i love these watches i have a pair. a must have
I suppose this proves the Lay's/Pringles Rule of Seiko 5s: I proved it to myself again right after buying my 5 Sports GMT a few months back, when I cruised eBay a few weeks later and found a "classic" 5 I couldn't resist snagging - "there's one for almost everyone" should be the 5 mantra.
I had the silver dial in my cart, but when i saw your grey one, i had to have it! It looks amazing for the price. FYI Jomashop calls it a black dial, but you can tell in the picture, its the dark gray sunburst
isn't it a silver dial?
I own the black one. Dial oscillates between boring and magnificent depending on light, it can seem totally flat on many occasions. 19 mm strap size is not great, clasp is terrible and locks only by flexibility of the material. It slowly bends and you need to bend it back to have a strong lock. Adjustment of bracelet is super unfriendly, you need to push out interlink(s) that hold like glued. However I like outer surface of the bracelet even though it does not match case of watch.
For some reason my front crystal bezel is not fitted properly and is slightly raised on one side. Lume is great. My movement was originally very precise but even though I did not wear it very much it seems to lose about 30s per day after 2 years 😞 If you work on PC and do not have much wrist movement you can be badly surprised in the morning with stopped watch.
Not bad for having fun, but I would buy something I can hand wind and hack and what does not levitate above my wrist.
It's funny how some people don't get the point about a self winding watch that can't be manually wound, but proceed to use one anyway: you must wear it at least 8 hours every day so that it will have enough power not to stop on you all of a sudden.
The rule with the 7S26 movement is that the watch's precision improves the more you wear it throughout your day.
Another important rule is that the movement gradually loses precision the more the watch comes in proximity to magnetic fields. This problem can be overcome easily, without shelling out much money, by buying a demagnetizer and using it on your watch with some frequency.
If you lead a sedentary life or have a "desk jockey" routine and don't wear the watch at least 8 hours per day, why were you surprised when it stopped in the morning? You hadn't been supplying it with sufficient power. This is not the watch's fault.
Where i can order link pls
Fabulous video mate , keep them coming .
Wearing my SNXS73 right now, and at home is my Japanese SNXS79. SUch a great piece. Get em while you can! Also got mine from Jomashop. An inexpensive 19mm brushed oyster bracelet really improves the appearance. My newest watch is a Citizen NY00040-17L, which sold out on Jomashop soon after I ordered mine.
Love the darker one! Perfect for the office 👏
That black one looks the same as my Pulsar 2001 quartz :)
Those are great. Wish I knew about them in the beginning. You could totally take a Cape Cod cloth to the center links of the bracelet and totally fix the look. Heck, you could even take a rough sponge and brush parts of the case if you like living life on the edge.
Awesome watches. I had the 75 with the gold indices, beautiful thing and got a lot of comments!
And they are gone. The price nowadays is a blunt joke.
Still able to pick these up for about£120 new. Still well worth it I think
The must make a newer version where you can change the dial with out the 5 logo sapphire and more metal band options.
Greetings from Oklahoma, USA !
Will we receive the same if we order from his link
What is the dial color of the light one? is it silver dial? blue or white? thanks in advance
personally i prefer SNKL43 SNK355 and others, than the SNX for its UFO case.
I heard swapping the case back alleviate that.
I like them. I'm sure they will attract new people into the joy of watches.
They ride very high on the wrist. Try a snkl23. They have better hands also
You got me to buy one hope you’re happy
Does anyone have an opinion on what one is more legible for older eyes
Darker
Does Seiko have any "updated" versions of these watches? I have two snk models and the snxs77, I love the way these ones look. Really dressy. I checked Amazon but couldn't find any updated models that look like these. It sucks that these are discontinued because they're such beautiful watches especially for the price. Thank you.
Now that I see you' wrote this, I'd love if Seiko resumed this line of entry level watches alongside their present Seiko 5 sports line, though featuring the same improved water resistance and similar newer movement that can be manually wound and hacked, like the latter. The "trick" would be to design and manufacture a similar movement that can be fit into the watches of the older line rather than makiing those watches thicker.
Yeah, I've been picking up some of these old Seiko 5s from Jomashop recently before they're gone. The SNXS79, SNK369, SNK393, SNKE01, and will probably grab a couple more soon!
Wow Rob!!!! You are thrashing me!
An excellent watch review sandwiched between unbearable edits and transitions. Dude seeing a guy spaz out with sudden jarring loud music…I’m not sure that’s enjoyable by anyone.
But you have your own style and you stand out, so maybe it’s just not my cup of tea.
Really love the pieces you got here. Interestingly enough, I’m also planning to buy an SNXS but am confused between 2 models. The SNXS79K1 that you got and the J1 variant. Can you please tell me if there are any differences that I should take into consideration? The price difference is negligible at only $6 dollars. But I’m really confused about which one should I get.
As far as I know, a "J" indicates a watch that has been made in Japan, and a "K" has made outside of Japan. The difference should be as negligible as the price difference. I am not aware of any differences between J and K watches, quality or otherwise.
@@EEE_MMM thank you so very much. The J1 variant has made in Japan written on the dial and 21 jewels written below the automatic engraving. That is the only difference I’ve noticed so far.
The youtubes have been saying hurry up and buy the "discontinued" SNXS's before they're gone for about 5 years it seems. I suppose someday it could be true.
‘The RUclipsrs’? We a club are we?? Coz I haven’t paid membership???
I love how you just read from the handbook that's in the movie Bettlejuice 😂... very fitting in Sept 2024!
Gorgeous watch love the grey one. They will last and last and last if you're kind to them. Great value.
I was thinking about wearing mine today and decided against it, then I see your video. It's a sign, time to take the STUNNAH out today.
hey man I've also been collecting vintage seiko 5s for a while now. Currently have three but i hope to get a lot more in the future. they're always awesome!
Loving the Liono brooch 👍
These are beautiful and an amazing deal. Thanks for pointing them out! Another option for the same price is the SNKL15, the silver dialed version of the famous SNKL23.
Actually purchased the dark variant a little over a week ago and yes, it's a nice looking watch. I'm finding the clasp a bit of a bugger. Oh well, whatever. Thanks for the video. Cheers
A nice pair! 😁 There are some hidden gems out there for sure. I have quite a few Seiko 5 Sports models thay are all really great watches. These dressier pieces are definitely worth grabbing while they are still around.
I just love the dials on these Andrew! Yes if the crown was at 3 I'd love even more! They are just cool and the lime makes them cooler!
love Seiko would not trade them for anything I bought a SKX007J1 as my first watch on a Jubaleigh bracelet for 230 now worth over 500 used can't be beat
You have you try the Seiko 5 SNK381 the same model was used for the special forces in Vietnam. Really nice watch and very good history
The Seiko Sports 5 watch I bought runs 2 to 3 minutes faster than the correct time, i bought it two months ago. What is the solution for it.
Too small for me but great video. Thanks. 💪
I have both old and new Seiko 5s in my collection. For me, the updated bracelet and caliber, improved crown and water resistance, as well as the more complexe finishing totally justify the price increase of the new Seiko 5 line (especially for the srpe "dress-KX"). Yes the old snxs/snkl are charming watches but there are really not up to today's standards if we are being honest.
Totally agree it’s just the case shapes are very generic now. There’s no fun with these watches 5KX’s
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR
Thank you for replying to me! As always, I enjoyed your video and style of review. 😊
Indeed, the plethora of choice from old Seiko 5 line will remain unmatched! I wonder if in today's context it would be possible for Seiko to propose such a variety of style/case/dials? 🤔
37 mm is my favorite size.
I will start using aftershave more often after wearing this model
The book title when you read your wife's comments lolzzz
