  • Review of TJ Exclusives PLASTIX mouse skates. They are a machined set of plastic dots made in america, $12 for 12 skates. Definitely more expensive than PTFE dots, but also more durable on glass. They're a good option for glass pad mains imo

Completely agree. I got plastix skates along with my Cerapad Kin, but I can honestly say I prefer the experience of obsidian dots over these. These feel faster in both dynamic and static friction, and while I enjoy the little bit of freedom, I feel the cerapad hit that perfect balance of stopping power and speed with obsidian dots and other PTFE options.

  • @KeepAnOpenMind

Tried for two days, they produce a MUCH louder sound, and have a little scratchy feeling on my pulsar superglide mousepad, as well as I couldn't feel any kind of improvement compared to PTFE, on contrary, those introduced A LOT of static friction which I hate and why I have the glass mousepad in the first place. Same with the obsidians though, so now I am back to the PTFE as tiger ice v2 (previously used corepads), and will be trying out ghostslide cyclones dots and jades.

ive noticed that the superglide just interacts with skates kinda weird, I currently have jades on my gpx, and its very odd as it feels like there is a very short window where these skates feel like they should on the pad, took about a day of playing on the pad with the inital coating unbearably weird and slow, then it started to feel very fast, as I wanted it too, then after about a week and a half of playing it got slow again. Very frustrating, but its likely this speed issue is coming from using dot skates on my gpx which it seems has a very uneven and wobbly base, with even three weeks of wear not leveling it.

And when I have to switch to a faster sensitivity, the mouse shape and grip might not be suitable anymore etc. As always, it depends.

I'm not spending more money on mouse skates for glass pads... I tried 4 different skates on glass and they all had their problems. Unless you want the lowest friction possible (which is PTFE) you can just experiment with any material and stick it under your mouse. I tried a buch of different plastics and textiles as skates and the material I like the most is felt from synthetic fibers. Unlike cloth it has no weave pattern so it has the exact same friction in every direction, it doesn't get muddy because the synthetic fibers don't absorb moisture or oils, It's completely unaffected by dust on the pad, the glide is smooth, silent and a bit more controlled than ptfe but still fast and the best thing is that the skates are soft so resetting the mouse feels dampened like on a cloth pad. These are my favourite skates now and they did not cost me any money.

The downward force not impacting PlastiX is 100% it's biggest feature on top of durability. Hence the reason for people whom use hardpads unintentionally desire vs their PTFE experience when using soft pads. But hardened PTFE + PlastiX is relatively new and everyone is very used to PTFE as the standard. So we could say PlastiX Dots is the hardpad version of mousepads. Eliminating jthe drag you get from either intentionally or unintentionally applying force into your pad

My only "concern" with the longevity is that nobody has actually had enough time to test that claim. Lots of people remember the infinite durability claims of glass skates that didn't hold up. I also notice some white shavings appear on my plastix after using them for a while, not concerned they're slowing down but it seems like that is the surface wearing down slowly
