Nice video and nice Aero A2 👍. I have two. A 4 year old horsehide Real McCoy and a 15 year old steerhide Eastman which is slightly too large but comfortable with a sweatshirt underneath. Greetings from across the pond 👋🇬🇧🇺🇸
Thank you and greeting to you too. Those are both excellent makers of A2s! Great idea on layering as the A2 was suppose to be a bit bigger to go ever a shirt, flightsuit and a sweater. You’re lucky you can visit Eastman or Aero!
Years ago, there was a company called Flight Suits International. We bought several from them at the Oshkosh Airshow. If I remember correctly, they were about $350!! Can't imagine what they'd cost today, if they still made them.
I have a genuine Cooper A2 i bought new in 1995. It even came with a certificate of authenticity. One of my few personal treasures and still looking great almost 30 years later. Pity I'm not looking so great ! Hah !
Glad i came across your video. Well done for those that love these jackets. Both tge novice and expert. I have several from the various makers you mentioned. Going back 20years. Also a number of their sheepskin jackets. I tend to be drawn to the older patterns of Aero and ELC. When you decide to part with the 46, let me know.

@@derekdoeschannel Thanks Derek !! It's D Day 80's years anniversary , here in France , and for a lot of countries that participate to the Europe invasion . Happy 80 D Day !
Great video! I have had several A2s from Aero, always been fantastic. I have an Eastman Roughwear 27752 now. Fit is always a tricky one with A2’s, only had a problem with a couple over the years which I ended up selling on as they were too big on me
Thanks. A2 fitting is a tricky thing. I've not had an Eastman yet as I know they're an excellent brand also. That is a nice thing about a good A2, you can always sell it if you don't like it.
Nice video - I’ve spent long time reading posts in the VLJ Forum to get my knowledge about those jackets - and ended with some Jackets from JC 😅😅hope my wife will never find out what I’ve spent for these jackets.
Thanks! I can easily spend hours reading and admiring these jackets. The VLJ is a fantastic resource. Any jacket made by JC is the best you buy hands down. Hopefully she won't see your comment as it adds up quickly I know!
@@derekdoeschannel absolutely - collecting these jackets is a fantastic hobby and so much to learn. Writing with JC helped a lot and also meeting with friend who have the same virus 😎 my wife thinks I’m crazy as my new m-444 sheepskin jacket from GoodWear arrived during mid summer .
What’s the max weather to wear this jacket just over a t shirt I always loved this style of jacket and I ordered one but I’m waiting to get it and wanna know
Hi, easily down to the mid 50's. It's just leather and cotton drill lining so not a ton of insulation, but bump it up to a sweatshirt or sweater and you're good for even lower. Plus, during the war, they wore them as a sweater in a way under other jackets when it got really cold.
I have quite a few Cooper type A2 leather flying jackets, my late father was a military dealer ,he was an expert on all military stuff (British, American, World war2) im not,are these jackets worth anything, also loads of military uniforms as well
HI, The Cooper A2 aren't the highest priced jackets but still a good beginning jacket. They're worth 100-200 on ebay, but check to see what they're going for today. They do have some value.
I recently was gifted an Aero, it is my understanding, and through research that this was one of the original manufacturers from the World War II jacket industry. It does not appear as you mentioned that yours do, in terms of the stitching, in particular, however, I have some questions. It also has a name plate, that I've been unable to chase down, which I find unusual. Also has a squadron patch. I'd like to believe it is an original, since it was gifted, I had no real say in it, but I'd appreciate any of your thoughts. Thanks!
First, it's great you have it!. Aero is an original manufacturer. It would probably have reddish cuffs and waistband. You can narrow down the jacket by looking at the tag and seeing the contract number as it will give you the year/contract it was made. The squadron patch can be tracked down too but doing a google search or two. Once you have that, you might be able to track down the original owner. And if it's a 40, 42, or 44 I might be interested in purchasing it! Thanks.
@@derekdoeschannel thanks Derek. It has everything you've mentioned. I have done the research, and it all checks. I just can't find the gentleman on the name plate. I contacted the original seller, again, it was gifted to me, and he lost track after exhausting his research. Since it was gifted, I would never part with it. Thanks though.
Derek, recently had my A-2 authenticated. Rare find, manufactured in 1939, 1 of around 3,500 produced by the Aero Company. The size, (44) less than 1% were produced. So, feel humbled to have it.
I don't know a lot about them, but I think they're a good starter jacket. Although I think for the same price you can find a used or on sale Aero or Eastman for about the same price. You should try one on and get a feel for it.
It really depends on your budget. Top makers of A2's are Aero Leather, Easman, Goodwear Leather and few others. Save a bit by getting a used one but make sure you know your size first. I'd suggest getting a better one to start as you'll discover you'll be disappointed if you go too low on the reproduction.
@@derekdoeschannel Thank you for getting back to me, plus with this information. I can try forming some patience to save up for a good one. I love leather jackets, especially one with history to it.

@derekdoeschannel I checked the Aero website. I think you're right, top tier, and Cockpit is not on that level. I watched your video because I'm in the market but cost is a big factor here. 2X the price is significant.
An A2 is a jacket you start off with a cheaper one and work your way up. Look for USED jackets as you can get one for the same price as a new Cockpit and the whole point of the A2 is for it to look worn in a bit. Or get a new cheaper one and then in a year upgrade and sell the original. I've have many throughout my life and always just upgrade to a nicer one.
The square pockets on the newer one look weird to me, l own an original WW2 jacket and 2 reproduction ones. Real Mcoys in Japan make incredible jackets ,very pricey but amazing.
I’ve got an Aero A-2 42-18775-P turning up tomorrow. After watching this I can’t wait even more.
