What's also dumb about this is that you know damn well they have every song they've ever released on a hard drive somewhere. Yet they only have a pretty sparse selection of music at the start. When literally all they have to do is upload MP3s

@@andyfritter ya honestly. I don't know if I mentioned it in the video or not but then openly saying that they won't have every game soundtrack in there right away is so stupid. I would maybe give them a pass if it was like a game from the last at 3 years or something (even then still kinda weird) but for games 5+ hell 10+ years ago is utterly insane to me.

I'm more old school, I'd rather they just release their iconic game soundtracks on CDs

I don't think these people realize how bad this is. Nintendo wants to monopolize their video game music.
Not only you have to pay for the games but online as well just to listen to music.
If you have the games already, you can basically rip the music off of the games. Why the hell do i need to pay money to use their music app just to listen to their video game music?

Finally someone that agrees with me 😂
But seriously the more you begin to think about this the dumber and just annoying it is. Like I said, it would've been much easier for them to just buy their music out there like everyone else but no they gotta do their own wacky thing. Idk I think eventually people will start to realize how stupid this really is

At first i thought it was convienient to have their entire catalogue in one dedicated place, even at the cost of it being a separate app. Then i realized it wasnt their entire catalogue. Then i realized you HAD to have a subscription to use it. Then i realized the drip feed bullshit. Another ass product from current nintendo thems the breaks 🤷‍♂️

Ya, pretty much the same reaction. Thought it was neat at first, but the more you continue to think about it, the more shitty it sounds overall.

I've been listening to Donkey Kong Country music on RUclips for so long, this announcement was just so goofy to me. I installed the app for the novelty, but I know I'm going to forget it's even there.

I strongly disagree with this. Nintendo has published +3000 songs, that alone is more than a lot of listeners have total in their streaming libraries. It would be hell to try to navigate to a song unless you already know exactly where and what it is. They would not have control of ads, the content of them or when they would play on Spotify. Spotify pays an estimated $0.001-0.002, and makes $0.004-0.007 per stream. The switch had sold over 140 million units, that means if everyone that has a switch listened to just one song, one time, spotify could make $140,00-280,000 in profit. (or if 25% of switch owners streamed 4 songs) Nintendo has extremely proprietary and xenophobic business models but that’s what has kept them alive for so long. Their IP’s are their biggest assets, if you could play the new mario native at 4k 240fps on your gaming pc you’d have no reason to buy the new nintendo console. I don’t agree with it at all as a consumer but I don’t think they’re dumb for it either. Some argue that it builds security between the buyer and the company knowing they can trust the product, others argue that it outright limits accessibility to the product itself, ultimately costing a loss in profit. What they could lose out on, means just as much to them as what they could make
TL;DR from a business standpoint, smart. from a personal perspective, greedy

Honestly under most circumstances I do agree with their methods of sticking to their own things. When it comes to sticking to the model of being both in the hardware and software markets not only does it make them who they are as a company, but as we see with the switch, it's the much better move. I have no problem personally with them wanting to keep all of their IPs to themselves and exclusively on their own hardware, but I feel like this is a bit of a different situation.
Yes it is fair to say that Spotify and other music streaming platforms would definitely be the ultimate winners if they were to just place their music on in these services, but they are not in direct competition with Nintendo either. It's not like having these game soundtracks on these services would detract or discourage people from buying the original games and or a Switch to play them on. In fact I would even argue it could help boost sales if anything. I get they're super protective of their IPs, but something like this is not a treat in the slightest.
Sure the thing is neat, and could even, like you say, be potentially helpful in tracking down certain tracks. Yet almost everyone who has wanted easy official access to these soundtracks most likely already knows where to find them (i.e. what game and the songs name). And additionally also wants to put them in general playlists with other songs. I've never heard anyone say I want a streaming service that holds music exclusively from (insert whatever company, musician, band, what have you), so why would it be any different for Nintendo (even coming from a guy who loves all of their shit 😂😂)
I get it's not the most urgent thing to complain about, like you said, more or less and annoyance if anything. But I personally feel that the more we continue to look back on this as time passes, the more we'll recognize how stupid this decision really was. But hey, I'm not losing sleep over it 😂😂

Eh, idk. It's extremely convenient. Yeah, you can listen to pretty much every OST on RUclips, you have to pay $14.99 (or $18.99 on iOS) just to listen to it in the background. As for Spotify, that would be convenient in the sense that Spotify has all of the music in the world, but it also costs $11.99/month, on top of the fact that they probably don't want to pay Spotify to steam their music. With the Nintendo Music app, it only costs an NSO sub to pay, and on top of the music, you get access to their classic games and online. Plus, it's as low as $20/year justt to use the app. So I can see why people think it's dumb, but at the same time, it is pretty cheap in comparison to the other services.

    • @aidan_548
      @aidan_548  3 месяца назад +1

I would agree with that sentiment, but both RUclips music and Spotify have free options as well that exclude certain features as well as mainly having ads. Honestly the pricing thing isn't my biggest issue with this, it's just the fact that they're all isolated on the app rather than be able to be mixed in with other songs, let alone other game osts not made by Nintendo

Have you downloaded mario run or any of the Nintendo mobile apps in the past? If you click on the publisher link on one of those store pages it should be listed among the apps.
