Today we are breaking down the ENTIRE succession war in Hunter x Hunter. From chapter 350 to 390. The Succession war is Hunter x Hunters most recent, and most complex arc, spanning close to 50 chapters with no end in sight.

even though I've reread the succession war at least 4-5 times and seen every recap video and hxh explained video on YT I'm still glad you posted this!! HxH is probably my favorite shonen.

While I'm amazed by the amount of detail and complexity of this arc, I wonder how much more complicated it will get once they actually get to the dark continent and if any of this crazy amount of characters will be relevant in the future

God bless you for this. I love Hunter x Hunter but the chapters in this arc have been extremely hard for me to get through, and nearly impossible for me to retain.
9:16 There is an error here. The identity of the Silent Majority User is still not confirmed. Furykov is most probably not the user since he has been referring to another nen user (the assassin) who is hiding in the crowd.
Wait really??? I thought he was referring to the conjurer assassin as "the assassin" because it was his ability and he could see it. Damn, that changes a lot.
@@ThisIsChris-Anime Yea it's pretty confusing in that chapter, but it becomes clear on Ch. 372 page 2 in his inner thoughts where he exactly refers to the skilled assassin being well hidden in the crowd (the 4th nen user who didn't raise their hands). There's bunch of speculation going around on who it could be, hopefully to be revealed in the new chapters.

Dude reading this manga was soooo hard.. there's so much dialogue and its so hard to follow on so many different characters. I am impressed by which each character actually shows that they think what a person would think in their position instead of just thinking stuff up just for the plot. That is something i appreciate but there is waaaaaay too much dialogue

i remember thinking that if togashi has such trouble drawing because of his health that he should just write it in novel form and include some sketches for another artist to take over, reading this much text in manga format is hard on the eyes

It’s so rare for shonen plots to get this complicated. The only story I can think of that even comes close is Death Note.
Yah this arc really tests my reading comprehension. Since I am not as passionate about HxH it is harder for me to keep track of character names. Like since my favorite manga and anime of all time is One Piece, I am more passionate about remembering many character names and events who are probably inconsequential. If the succession arc was placed in One Piece with One Piece characters, I would probably remember more details. Well it seems that I will have to reread this arc one day, but the hiatus doesn't help, though I hope Togashi takes care of his health. And personally, I do think this arc is way too dialogue heavy, but maybe due to my bad reading comprehension, I have a harder retaining so much of the information thrown at me.

Furykov isn't Silent Majority 's User. It's still unknown who the "Mysterious Assassin" is. We know that among those 16, there were 6 Nen Users. We know 5 of them, however Togashi still hasn't revealed the last nen user among those to us yet.
Yep, you're right! I assumed it was his ability based on how he talked about it at the end of vol. 35, but someone else pointed out he talks about it differently later on
I still don't get what the assassin's motive is or his/her contribution to the narrative

Good question! I hadn't really considered why tbh. It might be that a bunch of Nen beasts wanted to scope ou the surrounding rooms, and just ended up in the 14th at the same time.
I remember a dialogue I don't know the exact chapter that nen beasts were scouting at each other during the official opening of the Succession War, sizing each other strengths. These nen beast have their own will though most of them take care of the responsibility of protecting their assigned Princes.

The funny about Nen is that even a powerful ability used by a normie person can be rendered useless to an average Nen user whose physical strength is superhuman. The 4th Prince wouldn't stand a chance against a nenless Gon most likely. It's useful against normal humans but people like the Phantom Troupe are easily able to deal with normies with Nen

Too many characters in this arc
As much as I enjoy this arc, I agree. There's already enough going on as it is, having to remember 100 characters on top of the complicated plot is too much.
If we're lucky then half of the new cast will become cannon fodder, then we can actually understand all the details of what's going on. At this point it's just too much to memorize, the hiatuses didn't help either.

They are actually complying to the rules of Kakin, the Hunter Association is task to maintain order on lower levels especially on the civilians on board except to the some Hunters hired purposely by some of the Princes to guard them like Kurapika , the mafia holds more power in my opinion in those levels due to their connection with some of the Princes themselves.

What is a nen beast
A Nen beast is a Nen manifestation of a humans spirit. It is generated by the seed urn ceremony which is taken by the Kakin princes at the time of a Succession war.
They have abilities related to manipulation in order to protect their price and win the battle

@@1xtcy Usually yes, but it also depends on the circumstances. A lot of the princes do not actually know/practice Nen, so by killing their beasts they are super vulnerable to Nen attacks.

The art style that people complains about Togashi is very much present in other mangas lol. Togashi approach in this manga is very minimalistic, if you read his other manga Level E is much more detailed.

This is shaping up to be the worst arc in HxH. There are like 20 subplots going on, with each having another 20 sub-plots more.
Complexity doesnt equal quality, and Togashi needs to understand the limitations of manga’s format.
