Wow! This makes a lot of sense. I must be blind. The perspective I was looking was about the origin of the werewolf over the centuries of previous people
David Naughton was a great choice, the classic hunky boy-next-door American look. He kept himself in amazing shape and moves beautifully. It's like the werewolf's grace isn't just supernaturally provided, but David brings some of his own human excellence.
I don't know why but the calm song while David is going through a painful and terrifying transformation is what makes this a million times more scary than it has to be.
I like how the first three dreams still basically follow the streamline of the movie and are things you would expect but the 4th is where the utter lunacy sets in to tremendous effect

The yellow eye scene sure made me jump when I was a kid. The bit with the Nazi werewolf slitting David's throat was the scene that scared me the most though.
An interesting thing about the four gunmen in the third dream is that they each represent a "stage" in werewolf transformation: 1:46 The bald one represents the first stage - his face is still mostly human, with only the eyes and teeth being monstrous; 1:43 The one on the left, next to the doorframe, has started to grow fur and his face is extra deformed, but he's still not there yet; 1:47 The one with the fur looks like an actual werewolf, with the transformation completed; 1:52 The one with the helmet is rotting, you can see strands of muscle tissue on his face, he looks like a zombie. That's how a werewolf looks, when it's killed and decomposing.
@@kamilahmarshall3986 - They represent the werewolf gradually taking over his mind and destroying his humanity and the things (like his family) that represent his links to it.
1:42 and 1:48 an interesting touch here. Normally in movies, when someone is hit by bullets and sent flying through the air, it would be daft. But here it makes perfect sense because it's a dream.
At first, I didn't understand the meaning behind this dream but as of now I'm sort of getting it and I saw it as a way to symbolize them as being pure evil and cold. Since at that point David is cursed to be a werewolf, I guess it was a way to show the viewer that his blood is flowing with pure hate and the fury of a rabid animal that he would have no control over. The only way to stop himself from hurting anyone he loves is to kill himself. Nazi's didn't express any moral values regarding human life, thus the aspect of them being seen as pure evil. So showing monsters wearing Nazi uniforms in a dream sequence was a way to show the viewer that David's sense of being a good human or a human at all, is going to disappear.
Agree with you up to a point. David in his human form was still good and was highly remorseful for killing his victims - (apologising to his victims in the porno theatre - saying he didn't know what he was doing) When he survived the attack by the werewolf he literally became a split personality - the good David (human) with his evil alter ego werewolf The dreams I viewed as a symbolic struggle between his 2 personalities. In the dream with Alex he was looking at her (in human form) lovingly - then we saw a close up of his werewolf personality come through. The same with his family - looking upon them in the safe environment of his home - to be attacked the next minute by the 'Nazi monsters'. I haven't heard or read anything from John Landis on his interpretation - so he's probably left us to decide what we each take as the meaning.
@@JP1234815 I saw the second to last dream of David running (not naked) through the woods a bit differently. To me, he initially seems to be running from an unknown pursuer, much like he was on the Moors, but unlike on the Moors when he was attacked and cursed to become a werewolf this time there's nothing chasing him from behind, the real threat or danger is still up ahead as perceived by the other "Werewolf" David still sleeping as he has not yet changed and then with Alex looking at his "human" form lovingly however it's not the real him but the "werewolf" form disguised as the regular David, if that makes any sense, he then opens his eyes and shows his true nature, and how the original human David is running out of time, as he's getting closer and closer to his first transformation, even though he doesn't know it yet.
@@gatheringleaves I also noticed that during the nightmare sequence, the group of monsters who resemble werewolf-like creatures dressed in distorted World War II German-style uniforms massacres his family inside their home were using Ingram MAC-11 submachine guns, chambered in .380 ACP. What is puzzling is that the rate of fire in the movie is about half the rate of a real MAC-11 (which is a very fast 1200 rounds per minute). The sound effect of the gunfire is about 450 rounds per minute (like an M3A1 "Grease Gun"), which is more probably due to the sound effect in editing, and not the actual rate of fire of the submachine gun. Also When the Nazi zombie werewolf monsters open fire with their submachine guns at David's father as he opens the door.
