That’s what infuriates me about this argument because by that logic Giannis should have won MVP but he didn’t. Instead it went to someone with worse playoff numbers and success than Jokic. It shows how illogical the post season success argument is.
Did they watch these games? Jokic had 3 blocks and a steal with 14 rebounds last game. He had 3 steals and 17 rebounds another game. How can they say he isn’t a positive on defense. Sry he doesn’t have a 40 inch vertical so he can block balls better.
Thats not the point. The problem is his perimeter defense. Basketball is about matchups. If they played the warriors, they probably wouldn't sweep them because the warriors would force Joker to guard the three, in particular steph.

Jokic has a great defensive quality that no one in the media mentions that is his great defensive rebounding ability and initiating a transition play with him bringing the ball up. Giannis does that also
Seems a lot of people including the critics/voters etc are confusing what it actually means to be Most Valuable Player for a team. MVP is not necessarily the Most Popular Player or the Best Player Award - rather its a measure of how important that player is to the teams dynamic and regular season success or post season success regards Finals MVP. So was Embiid great this year - you bet, Did Embiid top the league in PPG - you bet, Was Embiid the League's Best Player - possibly. But was he absolutely undeniably critical to 76er's winning and performing well. Not so - 76ers seemed to play as well if not better when Embiid was out, Compare that to Jokic's Nuggets who relied on Jokic playing and playing well. But hey in this Woke World - cant expect much other than Woke NBA MVP voting.
Jokic has always perform in the playoffs 27.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in four postseason appearances from 2018 to 2022 This 2023 Playoffs 29.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 10.3 assists.
People don't know how good jokic is cuz he isn't "flashy". I never watched the nuggets until the playoffs and watching this dude now is like wow... he's the best player in the world by far
It’s funny how this year was Jokic’s best case between stats and team record to win mvp but they were crying about “postseason success” when Jokic was playing with an injured team. Then proceeded to give a make a wish MVP to a guy who hasn’t made the conference finals.
they say he hasnt done anything in the playoffs like he didnt make it to the wcf while coming back from down 3-1 n the first n second round they lost his startin pg for 2 postseasons n next seasons hes back they make the finals n jokic is doin this all while never playin wit another all star in his career ever smh they needa respect the joker
Jokic is so clearly the best player in basketball lol. And literally the only difference between this post season and the past two is that he has some help and his co star returned. Jokic somehow was the only one not to have a Co star with him. He had to win all by himself f
Glad Nick Wright is getting what he deserves here. He’s been putting up embiid and putting down jokic all year. Now we actually see who’s the best center.
It’s unfortunate that Mahomes and the Chiefs will keep winning for the foreseeable future because he will never get humbled like this in the NFL as a result
Jokic is a high rated defender. The only time AD ate was when Joker was in foul trouble. They can't afford to lose him offensively so he stops challenging shots. Refs also put out some suspect calls.
Nick's been changing his story for 3 years. He had different excuses for dissing Jokic all 3 years. He only started with the "3rd MVP is extra super duper special" at the very end of his 3 year hate parade
LOL Nick arguing that Jokic shouldn’t be MVP cause he hasn’t won a final, Embid sitting there never getting past the 2nd round, he just doesn’t like Jokic and can’t admit it
I also think it’s stupid to explicitly take previous MVPS into consideration. You look at season averages, season record, so on. Saying “oh he’s the best player in the nba but we can’t give him three straight” is weird
Nicks standard is dumb because in his whole entire take not one time did he mention that the Nuggets were injured the last 2 years. He carried those teams to the Playoffs. You have Murray on the team the last 2 years I can see them make the Western Conference Finals 4 years in a row. I guess we will never know
Nick Wright has been EMBARRASSINGLY wrong on Jokic who has been an ILLmatic all timer the last 3yrs (made All NBA 1st team and 2nd team before that too) and that includes amazing playoff performer as well (26 12 6 2 stocks on 51/40/83 BEFORE this year in 49 playoff games he just didn’t have his best teammate Murray last 2 playoffs MPjr too which naturally the goof left out for context) and can’t admit he was dead wrong. He and Broussard 2 months ago acted like anyone who thought Jokic was best player in the NBA didn’t have a clue and Nick didn’t even have him top4 (not top5 most of the year). The reality is Giannis/Jokic have been the 2 best players in the world the last 3 years and it was debatable who was greater (even though Giannis was def best 2 way player). You were dead wrong and a goofy hater on this consistently Nick stop trying to back track. “Worst MVP in 35 years” that’s what YOU SAID! “He’s closer to 6 or 7 then best player in the league” is what YOU said! Instead this clown doubles down (he was incredible in the playoffs he just didn’t have a good/healthy supporting cast). MJ didn’t make an NBA finals until 1990-91 but was considered best player in NBA before that. LeBron didn’t win title until year 9. He was best player in NBA too before title. Wilt didn’t win a title until year 8, but was best player in NBA. Big O didn’t win title until year 12 but was in top1-3 best player in NBA argument. Nick thinks he knows the history and stats, but he really doesn’t and ppl like myself and others out there who really know their stuff, see he gets stuff wrong all time time. He also has Luka 20th best player in his 50 best players of the last 50 years (less playoff series won then Jokic, 1 WCF like Jokic, 2 less MVP, zero top2 MVP finishes) and didn’t have Joker Top50 (also didn’t have Reggie Miller who is top18 all time in regular season + playoffs in WIN SHARES surrounded by legends on both sides and also top10 most clutch ever) which is complete amateur hour! FYI LeBron & MJ my CoGOAT (BOTH Mount Rushmore Athletes period who I’ve seen live 53/51x live respectively center court row 9/11/13 as Pacers season tickets since 87-88 and my moms family has Bulls season tix since 84-85) so this isn’t me saying this about Nick bc I’m some LeBron hater. I’m one of the rare ppl who love both MJ LeBron and think who the GOAT is splitting hairs and VERY debatable.
It's funny because when you look at him, he's tall, lanky, doesn't have a great looking physique but he plays like he's freaking Gumby. Way more agile and athletic than he looks
I hate when people try and retroactively change the standards in which a player is judged as if we don’t have decades of precedence already established. That’s probably the most irritating part of the Jokic convo.
The fact that Chris and Nick both said if Jokic didn’t win mvp in the past they would’ve voted for Jokic invalidates their votes completely. It’s the 2022-23 mvp nothing else but the play from The player that season should matter. And I hope the nba and player association does something about this because past accomplishments or failures shouldn’t be taken into consideration for awards from The current season
These people STILL can’t see his defensive presence. His only weakness on defense is rim protection but that’s just a portion of defense. Defensive rebounds, deflections, steals are also important which jokic excels at
MVP is a regular season award. The narrative that Jokic can't win 3 because he hasn't had a deep postseason run or a championship is ridiculously stupid. Look at what he had to work with over the past 3-4 years. He has carried this team before this season.
It's probably better they didn't give it to him. It got ugly at the end and you could tell jokic wasn't feeling it. Him losing it probably motivated him to raise his level for the playoffs.
@redmenort345davis6 there wasn't and will never be a good reason for embiid winning the MVP. It's one of if not the worst MVP award in the history of the league. The MVP doesn't have value anymore.
Jokic averaged 33, 13, and 6 on insane efficiency against the nba champs with a g league team in the playoffs last year. He’s been that dude in the playoffs
Nick said the Nuggets would lose in the first round, Jokic was the worst MVP ever, picked known playoff chokers like Paul and Embiid over him and said AD would shut down Joker lmao. That's not holding him to some previous standard, that's just Silky Johnson levels of hating.
So the Timberwolves coaching staff AND the Suns coaching staff AND the Lakers coaching didnt think to exploit Jokic's weakness like Nick Wright says. Imagine that.
Jokic is a throwback player and its really refreshing to see. Modern NBA fans swear a big like jokic or shaq couldnt dominate todays game because of the 3 point shot. If anything its quite the opposite. Players of this Era couldnt have a hope to stopping a big on that level.
So, Nick Wright is telling us that Embiid doesn't deserve regular MVP because he is not prove him, and yet he voted him for regular MVP. Oh wait, that criteria is only for Jokic. What a hypocrite.
Nick Wright is just holding Jokic to postseason standards, guys! Meanwhile, Luka is his 20th greatest player ever, HIGHER than Jokic. But he’s totally consistent, guys.
"this segment is to acknowledge and appreciate Jokers outstanding play this series." *spends the entire segment defending his god awful takes like Jokic being the worst mvp ever and a choker in the playoffs (which has always been untrue)*
If Nick is actually objective he’ll direct swap Luka for Jokic on his all time list about 3 weeks from now. ( 2 x MVP Jokic never made his top 50 and Luka was somehow 20th).
I appreciate the fact that when Nick got asked a question he didn't expect he just said, "I'm not certain." I hate it when "pundits" just run off at the mouth and make up something on the fly. Its clear that Nick only tries to give takes he's actually given thought to, and is prepared to defend.
In today’s nba people overvalue individual defense far too much. Great offense will always beat great defense. I don’t think people realize how elite the top few players in the world are offensively like Jokic, there is literally nothing you can do to stop him all you can do is hope is teammates go cold.
You can't say someone isn't in your top 5 and then act as though you were simply holding an all-time great to a higher standard. According to you he wasn't at that standard to begin with.
Waita minute... The regular season MVP is supposed to be based on the regular season. If you are asking for playoffs run to validate the regular season MVP, you are out of line. And in France, being out of line in school would get you a F grade.
What Nick truly fails to understand, is that a player isnt great because they won a championship, great players win championships. I actually think he is being disingenuous, BUT, Jokic is a great player regardless of whether he wins a championship or not. He has the ability to do it. There are a lot of things out of the player's control at all times. All they can do is be the best and hope some of those sliding door moments go their way.
And after all that Jokic defends Embids MVP win in the post conference. So humble. But he genuinely doesn’t care about mvps, he simply just wants to play ball and makes it look so easy. I thought Murray had 40 at a point in the game last night and that jokic was having a slow night, I look at the stats and jokic is game high in assists, rebounds and team high in points 🤯
Nick has a villain role to play, understand..... but this "having to wait for baptism of playoff" argument... means he does not have the capability to interpolate all the evidences and development of Jokic in hundreds of games into playoff performances make this villain role pretty uninteresting..... because this villain, as an analyst, sucks in his line of work.
Idk how many people know this but Jokic is the lowest drafted player to ever become MVP let alone two. 41st in the 2nd round. Giannis and Karl Malone are the next lowest at #15 and #13 in the 1st round if I'm not mistaken.
My respect for this show has grown million times throughout these playoffs. They actually gave everyone a chance. There was some bias, sure, but they actually covered everything decently. I finally got to understand Nick's pokes at Jokic, but Nick was gentleman about everything at the end and gave the props. Honestly I'm disappointed in coverage of mainstream media when it comes to this series as everyone talked about the Lakers. Good job for the crew, I actually had a lot of laughs listening to analysis of other games too. And respect for this crew for recognizing the basketball winners of this year, Miami and Denver.
I love how these guys openly admit that they didnt vote for Embiid because they really wanted to, they just didnt want Jokic to win. Really insane to think about.
The reason why Embid got the mvp was because of him saying he might retire after this season due to the fact that his brother died in a car accident. So sending him off with the award was a thank you gift.
I can buy Chris’s argument, that to win 3 in a row, Jokic needs to put up even better numbers, but Nick’s playoff narrative, it’s a regular season award, and every Batman needs a Robin, Jokic was without his for two straight playoffs and no MPJ in one of them too. It’s not like he had a healthy squad and failed miserably.

Also, who's not to say Jokić will end up one of the great players of all time after his career is done. I can see him being above bird. If he is the most valuable this year, give me 1 good reason we should give it to a guy with 0 POST SEASON SUCCESS INSTEAD EVEN THOUGH THAT'S THE ARGUMENT YOU USE AGAINST JOKIČ
@@marvinjones689 4-6
So, is Embiid up to Nick's standard for MVP? Maybe I missed something, and Embiid was a Terminator in the playoffs? Maybe the 76ers are finalists?
That’s what infuriates me about this argument because by that logic Giannis should have won MVP but he didn’t. Instead it went to someone with worse playoff numbers and success than Jokic. It shows how illogical the post season success argument is.
The third MVP is extra super duper special-Jokic can only get it if he averaged 60pts /50rebs /40ass a game
@@bjensen he shot 63%/ and 37% from 3 that’s basically just as improbable for a centwe
@@davidmason3671 I might be wrong, but I don’t think that anyone has ever averaged 24ppg on 63% shooting. Not even Shaq.
@dvijay461 but would the Nuggets win? In other words, would they lose because of his defense or win because of his awesomeness? Name a player who has no weakness. Who truly is the perfect, both sides of the ball type of player?
@@RD-sp5us healthy kawhi and prime MJ 🙂
@@osazone see, 'healthy' kawhi and 'prime' MJ. There seems to be disclaimers for everyone else but Jokic. Even the great MJ. The fact Embid won MVP is laughable and the league should be embarrassed and disgusted with itself. Just listen to the dbl standards. Apparently now you have to be good in the post season to even be considered and yet Embid just failed, spectacularly, yet again. The Joker is a once in a lifetime player who I am truly honoured to have witnessed. I am not getting into hierarchy type if debate of who is the best, but he will not be out of place among the greats. Is it beyond any imagination that dhoever they meet in the finals getting swept?
@@osazone kawhi playmaking its not elite, MJ 3 point shooting never was elite, plus MJ it's the GOAT.
“I believe he’s the best player in the world” “I voted for Embid” 🤦🏻
Jokic has a great defensive quality that no one in the media mentions that is his great defensive rebounding ability and initiating a transition play with him bringing the ball up. Giannis does that also
Plus he leads centers in steals and probably deflections.
Embiid winning the MVP is still crazy to me. All because Denver locked up the 1 seed so early that they were able to take their foot of the gas.
Giannis has a better season than both of them homie
Don’t matter we’re in the finals baby!!
Jokic basically forfeited the mvp by not trying as hard. What's so crazy about it?
@@domingow.17 joker finished behind Giannis and always was going to. But hey, whatever helps you sleep atvnight
Jokic has always perform in the playoffs
27.5 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in four postseason appearances from 2018 to 2022
This 2023 Playoffs 29.9 points, 13.3 rebounds, and 10.3 assists.
They look at him like “this guys an idiot” 😂😂
People don't know how good jokic is cuz he isn't "flashy". I never watched the nuggets until the playoffs and watching this dude now is like wow... he's the best player in the world by far
He’s been almost this good the past three years, ESPN just doesn’t like him because he’s white or something
It’s funny how this year was Jokic’s best case between stats and team record to win mvp but they were crying about “postseason success” when Jokic was playing with an injured team. Then proceeded to give a make a wish MVP to a guy who hasn’t made the conference finals.
Affirmative Action MVP

Jokic is so clearly the best player in basketball lol. And literally the only difference between this post season and the past two is that he has some help and his co star returned. Jokic somehow was the only one not to have a Co star with him. He had to win all by himself f
Glad Nick Wright is getting what he deserves here. He’s been putting up embiid and putting down jokic all year. Now we actually see who’s the best center.
It’s unfortunate that Mahomes and the Chiefs will keep winning for the foreseeable future because he will never get humbled like this in the NFL as a result
Never change Nick. Keep doubling down and moving the goal posts.
It’s been 2 weeks and I still have yet to hear a GOOD reason supporting why someone didn’t vote for Jokic
"Because he really, really wanted it." ?? (Nick Wright)
"Because he runs faster than Jokic" ?? (Keyshon Johnson)
"Because scoring. And he's black." ?? (Perkins)
Jokic should have gotten the 3rd MVP because like you said its a regular season award.
The hate for Jokic is insane.
He's been the best player in the world for three years. And he's only 28.
LOL Nick arguing that Jokic shouldn’t be MVP cause he hasn’t won a final, Embid sitting there never getting past the 2nd round, he just doesn’t like Jokic and can’t admit it
AND, more importantly, can't admit he was wildly, embarrassingly wrong.
A nice 10 minute segment about the team actually going to the finals after a 20 minute segment of a guy who isn’t retiring after getting swept
Wright's backtracking is hilarious.
I also think it’s stupid to explicitly take previous MVPS into consideration. You look at season averages, season record, so on. Saying “oh he’s the best player in the nba but we can’t give him three straight” is weird
It's not weird. It's pathetic.
It's not weird mate, it's hypocritical and very corrupt. Let's call a spade a spade.
Lmao Wildes impression was legit and him saying “listen, listen, listen”
🤣🤣🤣
Him and Butler are turning into the easiest guys to root for rn.
He is strong like an ox
I hate when people try and retroactively change the standards in which a player is judged as if we don’t have decades of precedence already established. That’s probably the most irritating part of the Jokic convo.
Murray had 32.5ppg on 95%ft, 53%fg, 41%3pt
Yes but the extra 4 points a game doesn’t outweighs the extra 9 rebs and 7 or 8 ast a game Jokic gets. EVERYTHING runs thru Jokic too.
And still isn't their team's most valuable player. The league got robbed last year when Murray tore his acl. What a resurgence they've had.
He's performing very well as a number 2 to Jokic yeah
@@alucard3374 yes I think jokic was better this series but not a lot murray was so important for their starts and comebacks
@@alucard3374 end the efficency was much higher than jokic that series
The fact that Chris and Nick both said if Jokic didn’t win mvp in the past they would’ve voted for Jokic invalidates their votes completely. It’s the 2022-23 mvp nothing else but the play from The player that season should matter. And I hope the nba and player association does something about this because past accomplishments or failures shouldn’t be taken into consideration for awards from The current season
What's funny is that Jokic killed two giant frauds with one stone...
The Lakers Mickey Mouse Bubble Ring, and Embiid's Make a Wish MVP..LMAO.
Lmao Wildes impression of Nick was pure hilarious!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I’m pretty sure MVP is a regular season reward not correlated with postseason. I must be crazy though
Embiid should give his MVP back. Him winning it eliminated any value of that award.
Jokic averaged 33, 13, and 6 on insane efficiency against the nba champs with a g league team in the playoffs last year. He’s been that dude in the playoffs
Nick wright's answer lets me KNOW he should NOT be an MVP voter
“Let’s do a little bit more apologetic”😂😂
Nick said the Nuggets would lose in the first round, Jokic was the worst MVP ever, picked known playoff chokers like Paul and Embiid over him and said AD would shut down Joker lmao. That's not holding him to some previous standard, that's just Silky Johnson levels of hating.
So the Timberwolves coaching staff AND the Suns coaching staff AND the Lakers coaching didnt think to exploit Jokic's weakness like Nick Wright says. Imagine that.
I wanted to see Nick and Brou debate about the closest sweep in NBA history, Lakers Nuggets or Nets Celtics
Jokic is a throwback player and its really refreshing to see.
Modern NBA fans swear a big like jokic or shaq couldnt dominate todays game because of the 3 point shot. If anything its quite the opposite.
Players of this Era couldnt have a hope to stopping a big on that level.
And saying he’s defensive liability at this point is just ridiculous
So, Nick Wright is telling us that Embiid doesn't deserve regular MVP because he is not prove him, and yet he voted him for regular MVP. Oh wait, that criteria is only for Jokic. What a hypocrite.
Nick Wright is just holding Jokic to postseason standards, guys!
Meanwhile, Luka is his 20th greatest player ever, HIGHER than Jokic. But he’s totally consistent, guys.
"this segment is to acknowledge and appreciate Jokers outstanding play this series."
*spends the entire segment defending his god awful takes like Jokic being the worst mvp ever and a choker in the playoffs (which has always been untrue)*
The fact they are not mentioning the injury ridden team he was back packing in those playoff is crazy to me
If Nick is actually objective he’ll direct swap Luka for Jokic on his all time list about 3 weeks from now.
He should've apologized to Jayson Tatum this year just like he did Jokic!!
Wildes’ impression 😂😂😂
Saying Lebrick is the GOAT invalidates any other opinion you might hold.
Nuggets do need to bring it against the Heat. Heat no joke. I’m not cocky. Nuggets can’t let the Heat go for 73 in a half and plan for a comeback.
So nick says he didnt vote for jokic in a regular season award because he didnt have the post season accomplishments?
Thank you Wildes for holding that man responsible
Dude, the MVP is for the REGULAR season. How moronic do you get a season MVP after the playoffs? Backpedal all you want to but it’s BS.
Well keep the same energy for Joel
You can't say someone isn't in your top 5 and then act as though you were simply holding an all-time great to a higher standard. According to you he wasn't at that standard to begin with.
Waita minute... The regular season MVP is supposed to be based on the regular season. If you are asking for playoffs run to validate the regular season MVP, you are out of line. And in France, being out of line in school would get you a F grade.
Jokic is the best bigman in the league hands down and best player in finals! I think denver gonna win it all. Much Respect from this knicks fan!
+1, Wisdom from the Malone, Barkley, Melo, Stockton Club
I always hate how Nick Wright brings playoffs into a regular season award.
Lmao didn’t make it past round 2 with Facu Campazzo, Will Barton and Austin Rivers playing meaningful minutes
Murray was more important in this series, his 4th quarter explosion in game 2 and 1st half explosion in game 3 basically ended the series.
Idk how many people know this but Jokic is the lowest drafted player to ever become MVP let alone two. 41st in the 2nd round. Giannis and Karl Malone are the next lowest at #15 and #13 in the 1st round if I'm not mistaken.
Hahahah when Wildes said that director part @ 2:42 hilarioussss. The Wildes guy is funny af.
Nick 'he ruined the MVP award' Wright
The "post season" argument makes no sense since the award is given BEFORE the post season.
And what has Embiid done in the playoffs?
I love how these guys openly admit that they didnt vote for Embiid because they really wanted to, they just didnt want Jokic to win. Really insane to think about.
I noticed that too.
The reason why Embid got the mvp was because of him saying he might retire after this season due to the fact that his brother died in a car accident. So sending him off with the award was a thank you gift.
So what did Embid do in “ post season “ to Reserve MVP?😮
I can buy Chris’s argument, that to win 3 in a row, Jokic needs to put up even better numbers, but Nick’s playoff narrative, it’s a regular season award, and every Batman needs a Robin, Jokic was without his for two straight playoffs and no MPJ in one of them too. It’s not like he had a healthy squad and failed miserably.
The real mvp Nikola not crying overrated Embid the only thing he does better then Nikola is defense
