2:56 Ford returned to RWD with the 2020 Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility. 3:11 Dodge introduced an AWD Charger Pursuit for 2014 and Chevrolet introduced a 4x4 version of the Tahoe PPV for 2014.
The Crown Vic was a reliable platform. Ford built millions of them and so parts are easily accessed and repairs are easily done. The only thing I would have changed was the transmission and the engine. The 4 speed automatic was outdated and the engine wasn't putting out enough power.
I may not undertand what your saying, but the cruisers have to be running constantly while in use for all the computer/servers/radio's to function. A. If shut many systems that would have to be restarted when turned back on, and B. With all the electronics, if the car were shut off the battery would be dead in minutes.
The onboard computer used to get dispatched calls/run people in the field for wants/warrants, and the radio equipment would drain the battery if the engine was left off too long. For traffic lights sure but for every other time no.
The reason behind the engine always running is the chance that if they turn it off and need to start it again, it will not start. This has happened MANY times in the past, and is the reason why it is what it is today.
Well the problem with that is these car have a lot of equipement like the computer and the radio and those need a lot of power so you cannot keep them on without drawning the batterie quickly . If you turn the computer off , it take time before it reopen. In fact a stop/start need something to recharge the batterie more eff like with braking heat like on BMW cars .
Here in chicago the taurus isnt sellin well the explorer ive seen a handful. Ive seen chargers and tahoes most tahoe has been around a while and chargers are becoming more popular replacing the vics
I live in Youngstown ohio and I can accurately say that both the Ford Police Interceptor Sedan & Utility are slowly but surely taking over the patrolling for local agencies. But for the Ohio State Patrol it is now the Dodge Charger Police Pursuit vehicle and the Chevrolet Tahoe Police Patrol Vehicle. I'm yet to see a Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle on the road around Youngstown. Maybe later on toward the end of the year we will see the Caprice.
in the near future, all new Ford vehicles will have start-stop systems....but we'll have to wait and see if a police spec. start-stop can be conjured up
I drove a couple of these cars and there are alright. The crown Victoria has always been my favorite but my personal opinion between the crown Victoria in the new Ford Taurus police interceptor from what I've noticed the Crown Vichas better throttle response and faster take off while the Taurus will over rev trying cover the same distance that the Crown Vic would do with less RPM. That's just my observation but overall the new tors or supper is a nice vehicle just there some things that could be improved.
I live in Springfield Ma, and I would more or less concur, although we have WAY more interceptor SUV's than sedans. I've seen about ten sedans and countless utilities, including by the MA state police who are switching to exclusively the utility to replace the Vic. Chargers are a close second, with my town and many others, including the NH state police switching over to them. I have seen a grand total of...drum roll...one Chevrolet Caprice.
The Crown Vic. is an already reliable platform that has been so widely liked and used by cabs, police, and limo's (Town Car) for years now. why take the gamble and risk losing the majority market. just like how chevy screwed up with the Caprice in the 90's? now look at them trying to bring back that car. Hell the Crown Vic. had such a nice look to it, such a shame to see it gone.
These cars have to run their electronics at all times when in use they need to idle or their batteries would die in no time. It's amazing the amount of ignorance they went into giving your comment so many likes.
The fact that you have so many disagrees show the ignorance that most people have when it comes to police vehicles. They idle so they can continue running all the electronics that have to be constantly running in the vehicle to do their jobs.
Chargers dominate this market. Calling these interceptors is like calling your grandpa the heavyweight champion of the world. These are for staff officers to waddle around in or to transport a K9 dog.
The crown vic defined the cop car world for two decades. I personally loved it, but if you look closely its simplicity was its downfall. We need these new cop cars in this vid. The crown vic will go down in history for sure, but it unfortunately dosent have a place in the future..
Cops need RWD 300+ hp hybrids with solar powered AC since they idle in start stop traffic most of the time and sit it the sun for speed traps. Too bad the only car out there like this is a Lexus GS450 hybrid.
I'm sorry, but neither one of these cars are as intimidating as the Ford Crown Victoria. I mean, as far as I shall live, I will never see one of these cars and immediately check my speedometer to make sure I am driving the speed limit.
lol that isnt true, ford makes all kinds of rwd shit, the ranger, the f pick up trucks, im almost positive their suv's are rwd and "specialty mustang" shit all mustangs are rwd.
I love ford cop cars. they make them with alot of lights in awesome places with awesome light patterns

I've only seen a couple of those taurus, but have noticed that the police departments really like to use the ford explorers for their vehicles

1:07 I'm glad they're finally enforcing lore.

I love ford taurus police car
How much room is there for the "passenger" in back?

The new V6's are Twin-TruboCharged as an option and gets over 100HP more than the V8 in the Crown Vic
Sage it does come in awd
This little town I live in ordered like 25 of them lol, there everywhere and there gorgeous

so this canada so do they have kph spped canadian speed dash
The Police Interceptor Utility is now the best selling police car in the US.
I drove a couple of these cars and there are alright. The Ford PI ECo is AWD. Check with Ford
Because constantly tuning on and off the engine adds wear and tear to it. It's cheaper to pay for gas than an engine in the long run.
The sedans time is around 5 secs and the SUV's around 7 seconds.
I wonder what one of these donut-mobile's 0-60 time is.
the post production siren just kills the whole thing

they should have just kept producing the crown vic but refreshed it a bit
i believe these are the best option for a police car
RUclips .... please !!
just let me finish my major essay which is due tomorrow
why can't ford keep the crown victoria it has a v8 the taurus and explorer have v6s
But they are Twin-TurboCharged

The AC needs to be running constantly, it keeps them cooler, you dont wanna piss off the cops, do ya?
I'd like to be pulled over by the Carbon E7 not a Taurus.
i don't get why these cars don't have auto start stop, with as much time as cops sit idle, it's really a waste for the engine to have to be running.
Oh yes it does. Think about it. You're telling me if you turned an engine of and on 10,000 times it would be as good as new? You'd be wrong.
should of kept the Crown Vic. going first and foremost improve it's MPG and performance.
they might someday
For out-running's sake, of course!
These cars have to run their electronics at all times when in use they need to idle or their batteries would die in no time. It's amazing the amount of ignorance they went into giving your comment so many likes.
police in canada needs these carss
Bad ass police car!!!!!
Is it just me or does this guy sound scared?
Yeah, like he was rushing his lines. Maybe he's done something that he doesn't want the cops to figure out haha
Lucciano Hunter lol
"I dont know what to do with my hands." -Ricky Bobby
Hes got the cop look to go with the car.
I live in nj and only seen one lol
Ford..... the best police cars....
the cars have so much electronic equipment that the car needs to idle so its battery doesnt die
The video is 4:20 long. Kind of ironic that this is on a cop car video
Batteries.. The power needed to power the computers, radio's. They need solar panels on them.
It won't be able to provide the horsepower that the charger can produce.
The fact that you have so many disagrees show the ignorance that most people have when it comes to police vehicles. They idle so they can continue running all the electronics that have to be constantly running in the vehicle to do their jobs.

Check again mainly interceptors now

Well if they had an electric compressor for the AC then that wouldn't be a problem.
This guy looks like he's about to cry...
Cops need RWD 300+ hp hybrids with solar powered AC since they idle in start stop traffic most of the time and sit it the sun for speed traps. Too bad the only car out there like this is a Lexus GS450 hybrid.
It is a hoot to see a 225lb 6 foot 4 inch cop try to even get into it.....
it is too small and uncomfortable compared to the crown vic. the view out the back and to the back and sides is HORRENDOUS.
I'm sorry, but neither one of these cars are as intimidating as the Ford Crown Victoria. I mean, as far as I shall live, I will never see one of these cars and immediately check my speedometer to make sure I am driving the speed limit.
because big people cant live without AC
breathe dude...just relax, breathe and talk....
Nice, but no V8 !
this guy needs a back bone, its like hes scared or something.
I live I
Bad patrol car (too small), but it's good for detectives, homicide, captains, etc.
wtf man this review is uncomfortable relax
lol that isnt true, ford makes all kinds of rwd shit, the ranger, the f pick up trucks, im almost positive their suv's are rwd and "specialty mustang" shit all mustangs are rwd.
he really didn't do a great job....he made it boring....
:)
bri-ish reviewing america's car
These cars are shit! They only have a 3.7 liter v6 !!!
