This is likely why they sued EVject. Tesla sued claiming the adapter did not have safe current and thermal tolerances. They likely knew that they were upping the amperage to 900 A and is is unlikely The adapter was built with that high of amperage tolerance.

Kyle, as someone suggested you need an infrared thermometer or such to make comments about temperature. You can’t leave your hand on greater than 140 degrees F. Therefore, between approximately 140 and 212 (when you spit on it and it spits back) you may know by amps that it should be hotter you don’t know what it is.

The cables on the V4 Supercharger dispensers are much beefier than the cables on a standard V3. In both cases, it looks like Tesla is operating on a "boost" rating that lets them exceed the placard rated current for a short period of time. That's why Cybertruck owners are running into power limits after ~10 minutes on the V3 cables.

It takes many many months if not years to get things designed/engineered, sourced, permitted, corrected, permitted, utility holdup, unexpired, permitted. You don't want strict standards to stifle innovation, but clear concise charging capabilities from dispensers would have been so useful. Like grades of gasoline. Then you got Tesla just doing their own thing. It's still wild wild west. People want this instant EV adoption and market share, but it has to come from maturity in the marketplace and we will get it sorted, but it's not there yet.

Does Tesla sell a vehicle that'll charge at 320 kW? Even if it does, will it charge at this rate for more than 10% of its charge curve? The obsession with high charging rates baffles me. My Bolt EV peaks at 50 kW, and this rate is acceptable for my needs. Sure, 150 kW would be better, especially if the battery accepts this rate for most of a 10-80% charge (which few batteries do), but 300 kW is totally unnecessary.

the obsession with high speeds is for road tripping. Additionally, as batteries get much larger (Silverado etc.), it will take a very long time at 50kw. Presently, the 200kwh battery in Silverado would take 4 hours at 50kw.

    • @restonthewind

@@arrowlogproductions2509 320 kW from 10 to 20% state of charge then down to lower rates? How significant is that decrease in charge time? 10 kWh at 300 kW rather than 200 kW? Maybe you save five minutes, and then you're back down to 200 kW anyway, and by the time you're over 50% SOC, you're down to 100 kW if you're lucky. If you're charging from 10 to 80% SOC, five minutes isn't a huge difference. If five minutes makes a huge difference to you, stop at 75%.
How often do you actually see this rate at an EA station? No charging station can deliver that rate to many vehicles simultaneously, and no vehicle accepts it for much of its charge curve. Kyle is telling you in this video that he's sitting at 60-70 kW in a Rivian at a Tesla charger because a temperature limit is exceeded, but even if that limit weren't exceeded, a Rivian is down to 150 kW at 50% SOC.
If we want people to accept EVs, we need to counter this idea that EVs need to fill up with electrons as fast as an ICEV fills up with gas. It's unnecessary, and it'll be a long time before the charging infrastructure can handle it.
