As a bigger runner (6’2”, 205 lbs), this shoe has been a terrific long run shoe. It feels plenty soft-probably because I’m pulverizing the foam-and is perfectly happy picking up the pace when necessary. I wore it for a half marathon and it treated my legs and feet very well.
I swapped the insoles from Saucony Shift 3, the white bead foam peba type. Changed the shoe completely. Dream to run in. The factory NB insoles are a joke. No cushion
Does the shoe have enough volume for a thicker more comfy insole? I have a higher volume foot so sometimes that's an issue when swapping out for a nicer insole
I’ve had to put half length arch supports in my V3s. I was collapsing in, not very supportive. Since then, I’ve put 130 miles on them and they’re performing admirably
I agree it's best suited for long runs, especially if there are marathon pace or uptempo miles in them. I have also found it to be comfortable for easy recovery miles - it took 30-40 miles before it really settled and was comfortable for those easy miles but it has become my go-to when I just want to go on cruise control with my partner or friends who are a bit slower
Yes, I’m a heavier runner (190 pounds) with large feet and a history of Achilles issues. I prefer a firmer ride, so I didn’t want an aggressive racing shoe. I love it! It makes me want to run faster. I had to size up a full size. I use it for longer tempo runs and for racing half and full marathons.
They’re barely recognizable from a feel standpoint version to version. To me it’s like comparing a triumph to a tempest. They’re just different shoes that serve different purposes. I think V3 is much better at up tempo paces, where V1 was a dream to just burn through long runs as easy paces. Just my opinion
I really like this shoe for long runs, I wish i would have half sized up on my SCv3 Trainer. I like it up to about 7 or 8 miles, then it starts to fell pretty cramped. I'm definitely going to order another pair half sized up for fall training.
I am about 180 miles into mine, and once I got the sock and fit right, they became the darling of my marathon training cycle (Marine Corps in two weeks). Really ideal for the long runs. Like others have noted I am bigger, meaning 6'1", 185 lbs, so while not technically a heavy runner (32 inch waist), I am pretty close. And I am an old goat, too. So the cush is good, the recovery is good, the energy return on long runs is outstanding. It also makes for a good supershoe companion to the elite. I wore the Elite for my half marathon in September and PRed even though I was running with some gas left in the tank. So quite happy with them. But, I think to your point, I don't want to wear them for easy runs or anything less than 10 miles. They are not, how should I say it, a joyful shoe? Like I don't get excited about lacing them up. They just don't make say, yeah, let's run!!!!
I have about 161 miles on my current pair and went true to size. The fit for me is perfect as I have a wider midfoot, but my toes don't splay as much so the toe box works well for me. Stability is excellent for me and this has been my first super shoe that doesn't cause any posterior tibial tendon pain.
Just went over 100 miles on mine. Use them mainly for long runs. Agree that it took 20-30 miles to break in. So far I definitely like them better than V2.
I love these SCv3 For long runs I take them like 50 miles. From experience I order my 11 wide shoes and they are very tight. I have a flat foot and due to an injury in my right foot it tends to fall inward a little more than the left causing my right foot (sole and ankle) to end up sore from time to time. I also have the SC elite 4 but I have only run 10 miles and 3 of them were in a race where I went down 1 min to my personal record with those SC ELITE 4.
I’m returning them. I hoped the “stability” would work for me, but it did not. Took it for only three miles and my ankles knees and right hip ached. Way too soft for me I guess and I felt like it was forcing me to medially pronate. Still looking for the right marathon shoe for myself.
I’d agree with your recommendation of going 1/2 size up on these. I’ve worn a size 10.5 in other NB shoes and ordered a 10.5 and 11 to try out. The 10.5 felt okay at first, but these rocketed shoes sometimes tent to feel short as they tend to push you onto your toes. The 11s were the way to go for me, though I wish I could have the mid-foot width of the 10.5s. I’d have no complaints then. I love this upper!
I’ve been trying to figure out if I should get these or or the full on race shoe. I think I will get this one. I’m doing my second half marathon and even though I am faster now idk is I need a full on super show. My 5K time, as of today is 25:14, what do yall think? And yes you videos help!
What about ordering it in Wide fit, which NB offers across its entire line? (the only brand that makes it's racers and trainers available in wide fit. Hoka makes its super trainers in a wide fit, but not its racing shoes).
I absolutely love the v1, the v2 a lot less, and the v3 sounds like another downgrade. But I still might have tried the v3, if the shoe wasn't 250 euro! I'm not paying the price of a top tier race shoe (Metaspeed Paris), for something most people think is just okay.
I run in this is one, was thinking about the elite. Money was no factor. Here in Europe it's only 30 euro more, but look at the heel counter, look how much padding has the v3... yes, little more weight, may have similar outsole, but this is just more comfort. That was my logic when I was looking which one to buy.
This has a eva/peba blend similar to rebel v4, elite v4 is pure peba. Then there's the upper - Elite v4: wider toebox, thinner racey material, short thin tongue and almost no heel padding, trainer v3: narrow toebox, more like woven material, normal tongue and heel padding, very comfy but would go half a size up. Elite v4 feels like a super shoe/racer, trainer v3 does not. I sent both back (elite v4 felt great but gave me blisters, trainer v3 was too narrow in the toebox).
@@Maochan81 .. you mean because peba more good than eva/peba .. sc elite v4 is expensive???? .... And why sc elite v4 heel thin padding I think this is negative cons

This is good feedback. I'm thinking about the fact that I'm 6'3 220 this one and the hyp max2 may have more give since we carry more weight

You have to go half size up to accommodate thicker insoles. This shoe already has a snug, tapered fit in the toebox.

NB SC Trainer v1 is still the best version of this line.
I still have my v1 sitting on my shoe rack after all these years. I take it out for a run from time to time.

Hopefully the midsole in this is more durable than the rebel v4 that has the same blend.

Does the NB SC Elite v4 last as long as this one? How's the durability of the SC Trainer compared to the Asics Superblast 2?
If this was the only shoe that I owned, could I use it for all sorts of training? I’m being told the shoe should really only be used on race day.
How would you rate this compared to the original Adidas Adizero Prime X (if you ever ran in them)?
