      Just wait for the eventual HQ refresh! That'll be sick, Matt and Mike should build a few small sets that use different levels of equipment they do that they can film bits in. Could be one set that they fit out the room 3 ways so you can shoot 3 different price ranges of garage and you'd still have interesting angles if you split it to include a corner in 2 of the shots.

    Hey, I wanted to bring up the knifes again and the honing rod. Working in the kitchen a honing rod never sharpened the knife, it realigned the edge. If you take a knife blade and put it in a microscope you can see some tiny serrations and those over time will move around (dulling the knife), the honing rod just aligned the serrations. Using a wet stone to sharpen a knife will be the best way to actually sharpen the knife!

    • @lukemcculley2203
      @lukemcculley2203 2 месяца назад

      Its true I work as a chef nothing wrong with a rod the only time you sharpen chef knifes is when you damage the edge I personally do it every 3 months but again I use my knifes everyday for 5 hours so I wouldn't stress if he needs them to be flat stoned he can send them to a knife shop

    I noticed the top of the cabinets are white and you can see the holes the screws go in from the loft.
    Have you thought of putting some sort of topper on there, like the marble topper you put on the cabinet in the kitchen, you could do that same material on top of the cabinets that you can see from above

    Hey matt, I'm commenting again (as the knife Guy), and if you are interested I would suggest magnets. There are all kinds, wall mount strips, magnetic blocks, you could even put one in a drawer. If they are exposed metal a piece of felt can be fixed over it to keep from scratching up the knives. My 2 cents.
    I also really appreciate your take on things having very similar OCD tendencies. Keep it up.

    • @mclarenjohnf1
      @mclarenjohnf1 3 месяца назад +2

      I just caught up on this and I was going to say my wife is a professional chef and at home she had me put magnetic knife holders on the wall for her sharp knives and she has her steel on hand and I will never use her knives as they apparently are tuned to her as I found out when she erupted after I used one to slice cheese.

    • @snapchat7293
      @snapchat7293 2 месяца назад +2

      @@mclarenjohnf1 Knife guy here, the magnets are an excellent solution to keeping them sharp and not interfering with the edge.
      The problem is they get oily and dusty sitting out in the open also if they are expensive knives the wood handle will hold onto those oils.
      The best solution is a draw with a knife sleeve.
      “Now” professional chefs are a different story because they want quick access to their knives they use them a lot so they clean them often but the average joe shouldn’t stick them on a wall in the kitchen.

    • @mclarenjohnf1

    Amazing transformation, Matt and Mike and Mike and the team...!
    I would just like to add that the honing iron doesn't sharpen the steel, or just a very, very small amount, taking no or minimal amount of the hardened edge material. It just straightens the very edge, and if done with a light touch under an OK angle from time to time, it can help keep the keen edge for longer, before you need to really sharpen it properly on stones...
    If you attack the edge with it too hard at a too blunt angle, you could blunt the edge... But if you do it nicely, at a sharp angle that is close to the angle of the secondary edge bevel angle, you will do wonders for the longevity of your knives...
    Until you get the hang of it, it's best to practice on cheap knives, that usually have softer edges, and get the feeling for the angle and the strokes to use...
    Anyway, great job all, I hope Collete and Adam are going to enjoy the house in good health for years to come...!

    Aamazing work! It has made me really jealous though! I now want to kit out my house with the lutron switches! I have been fighting the urge to do smart bulbs but I really want the switches!

    Re: Spice organization. At least for me, I understand enough fundamentals of cooking to be a little bit dangerous and flavor to taste rather than recipes most of the time. Because I primarily cook that way, I organize spices into general flavor categories. Savory, Spicy, Sweet, and then mixes/blends.
