    Thanks very much for giving us an insight into these incredible structures and engineering masterpieces. When I was a little boy of 3 or 4 I was obsessed with lighthouses now 30 years later my obsession has been relit. I’ve still got to tick of my dream list of actually being inside a lighthouse hopefully 1 day

    Superb video, thank you Peter. The lighthouse always meant one thing to me as a young man. Fall in/or out from harbour stations and secure the focs'le for sea/harbour. Often on 'Channel night' as our ship boxed the compass just outside the the sound, we sailors would stand on deck with our tins of CSB looking at that mournful light and thinking of our much over due shore leave. Your videos are a window to a forgotten word, but a better word. I remember as a younger man taking great interest in the sea forts and land fortifications surrounding Plymouth Sound. The warehouses and workshops of the Royal Dockyard and the quarry workings on Dartmoor where the rock came to build all these industrial wonders. I different world and different time and I'm so glad that you have provided us with a tantalising glimpse.

      Hi Steve, thanks for that and glad that you are still enjoying the Lighthouse videos. As you mentioned the Forts etc you may find this that I found interesting.

    Fascinating videos Peter. A great insight as to what must have been, it seems, a fantastic job. I was working on the breakwater in the early summer of 1988 after the great storm of 87. A big hole appeared behind the lighthouse and with the help of the Royal Marines and their landing craft we drove 5 ton dumper trucks onto the breakwater to fill the hole with concrete, that took several days. During the following works some other people landed on the breakwater and went into the lighthouse, we asked if we could look around, it was fascinating to see the curved furniture, and the light room.

    Thanks for video. Such a shame the MOD are not showing the same high standard of care and attention over detail, cleanliness and upkeep. On all your videos that care really stands out to every square inch of the light and structure given by the TH keepers and subsequent ex keepers and fitters, who now maintain the unmanned lights. At least the fog bell is still there.

    • @PeterHalil
      @PeterHalil  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for that, yes it is a pity, us Keepers (those that loved the job) kept our Lighthouses spick and span, but to be fair, we were living there, so it was a lot easier, take care, Happy New Year

    Yet another good one thanks Peter. It must have been quite a walk out on that breakwater at times. I bet those steps inside took some care if the Keeper's feet were still a bit wet or slippery. They just seem more severe than others. As usual I'm green with envy at your visits haha. All the best for 2020. Jack.

    Happy new year Peter thanks for showing us this really beautiful lighthouse, I cannot believe how nice even the inside was built with those ornate metalwork details and even the printing on the fog bell my goodness why can’t we make things with this quality and detail anymore?

    Are you sure that a LED (light emitting diode) was used in mid 90s? I'm just curious, because as far as I know, white LEDs (more precisely blue LEDs that were a part of 'white' LEDs of that era) were pretty much a novelty in that time.

    • @PeterHalil

      Hi, I was never a technician only a Keeper. Some of my videos were day visits just to film it, so I had no real knowledge of the place. I relied totally on what I could find out myself either from Trinity House or the attendants that accompanied me. So if you want a definitive answer I include an email address to Trinity House, cheers, stay safe,.

    Happy new year. The vid kept freezing at 7min so I will have to come back to see the rest, maybe the answer to my question is still coming. It appears the Military folks don't keep their lighthouse as squared away as TH. Why would the experts (TH) give control of a lighthouse to the military?

    • @PeterHalil
      @PeterHalil  5 лет назад +3

      Happy New Year, I'm assuming that Trinity House get rid of lights here and there to off load the costs to someone else for whatever reasons. They passed on Souter Point, Withernsea, Spurn Head, Haisborough etc. Yes I thought that in the 2nd clip that there was an awful lot of mould and paint peeling about the place.
