Probably the most underated singer in Country Music History. Pure Country Gold, John Anderson. I remember watching this episode of Hee Haw with my Parents.. I was 10 or 11.
I wish there was a country station around these parts that played oldies, THIS song is classic-classy and just plain awesome! More folks need to hear real music
This was country music when I was growing up I’m 45 riding around with my older brother listening to John Anderson at 14 greatest times ever!!! I miss those times so much you younger people wouldn’t know what these times was about!!!
You know the crowd was very small for a country music show But he faked a curtain call just like it was years ago And then a lady grabbed his arm as he staggered down the aisle And with all his country charm he addressed her with a smile. Would you catch a fallen star before he crashes to the ground Don't you know how people are nobody loves you when you're down Pick me up and take me home and I'll bring my old guitar Sing a golden oldie song if you'll catch a fallen star. [ steel ] He had a silver plated bus and a million country fans Now there's just a few of us and he drives a little van And they were beatin' down his door the lovely women left and right And now he's on a hardwood floor a wonderin' where he'll spend the night Would you catch a fallen star before he crashes to the ground Don't you know how people are nobody loves you when you're down Pick me up and take me home and I'll bring my old guitar Sing a golden oldie song if you'll catch a fallen star Sing a golden country song if you'll catch a fallen star.
I seen John live back in about 94 at the Crazy Horse in orange county CA, a small venue it was like he was singing in my living room. Those were the day's
I just mentioned he started up in 2018 or so doing small personal venues like you are talking about. I'd love to go see the man. What a life has probably had!
In 84, my older brother and I were in Hephzibah, GA, at a little joint called the Rabbit Box South, and the guy singing that evening covered this song. I'll never forget that place.
The 1980's was the last great era in country music - John Anderson, Ricky Skaggs, Lyle Lovett, Dwight Yoakam, George Strait. First time I heard Garth Brooks and saw how successful he was with that country-pop sound, I knew it was over. Practically everybody after Brooks does country-lite. But that golden period before country-music-for-people-who-don't-like-country-music took over was great while it lasted, and those guys that came out of that era still produce some terrific stuff.
I always liked John Anderson voice. He was very talented. good singer. my favorite song by him was. I just came home to count the memories. I keep thinking Elvis Presley would liked that song because he lived of memories a home he never forgot where he came from.
none more like 84,,,what a year that was, i didnt get to see john till 90,,,,he kept me entertained many a late night shift at the chicken plant,,,,me and my walkman,,,before the world turned totally sicence fiction
I remember seeing John Anderson singing "Swingin" on HEE HAW in the early 80's I think it was thinking this guy is gonna definitely be a star someday. I don't normally listen to Country music. I just couldn't help thinking "this guy has one of the most distinctive voices I have ever heard". John's "inflections" I guess is what you would call it are just so incredible. I don't know of many musicians that have such a distinctive voice. I loved SEMINOLE WIND too!
Well, he has been recognized. He had five number 1 singles and nominations for Song of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year. The "country music establishment" largely regards John Anderson as one of the most talented and unique voices in the genre.
Not a very unique voice if you've heard interviews, but the fascinating thing is his innovative tone fluctuation, that wasn't popular at the time and its not recognized as much as it should be now due to damned autotune
Don't get much more real than that. Back when men were men and hair on their nuts. The boys today snap their fingers wear mascara and have no fuzz on their peaches.
Sing a oldie song we love them the best this new stuff they try to give us these days ain't country the legends sure knew how to sing a song we miss them but John is a legend
Country music will die after this generation of singers. The only hope for country music is singers like Jeff Bates now. John hope you and Foggy and Lionel are relaxing... ya'll deserve it.
gord brown I agree nowadays is a bunch of crap. I am young but I still know Good Country Music. Today I'm telling ya it has the same ole stuff in there. Plus it has some pop music aspects in it which kills it. I am not saying ALL is bad but 90% is bad. I might be a city slicker (wish I lived in the country) but I know good country music. I been listening to a little of Randy Travis lately.
@ParkerAllen2 Gotta agree with ya "almost" totally on this one friend. I saw the same thing with Brooks & maybe that's why I never took a shine to him either. Alot of folks did though & shortly after that period I got away from the so-called country never to really return. Except for the "classics", which I still love. Great tune here huh? Thanks for letting me ramble on. lol
Saw this band many times in the day, brings back great memories. They were: Lead Guitar - Vernon Pilder Fiddle - Tom Morley Steel Guitar - Buck Reid Piano - Mike Jordan (can only see hands, but he was their piano player at the time) Those I'm pretty sure of, and the rest are probably: Bass - Larry Emmons Drums - James Wolfe Guitar - Can't see No idea on the back-up singers.
drumrooster . I've had the pleasure of catching him live. And he doesn't need anything to fix his voice how you hear it on cd/tape or on the radio he is just as good live!!
Who's the fiddle player? He's so full of music. It's great to see people like that. And John Anderson is one of a kind and deserved so much more attention than he ever got.
once again i can only ask wth happened to quality country music :( Awesome video that makes me miss good country as well as good Florida country music!
All you newbys to Country Music, This is how its supposed to sound like -- THE REAL DEAL ---- Thanks for posting VVVVVVVVVVVery nice
That's a steel guitar. That's a fiddle. If you Newbys want to throw in a mandolin ok.
And that's soul and feeling and singing.... not talking or rapping or reading words into a microphone
YES!!!
Amen to that!!! 🙏❤
Absolutely 💯
I'm just a lump of coal but gonna shine like a diamond some day! ❤️

Country music as it should be. So much talent! What a beautiful voice. Why has he never been recognized by the country music establishment?

One of the most unique voices to ever hit the stage.
Not really a country music loving guy ,but this guy is great .

Why can't they make true country music like this anymore??
Not enough just good ol country song writers anymore. They died with this classic country.

John is amazing. He's one of the last 'real' country mainstream artists. I really wish this sound would come back...
"Pop with a twang." That's what my son calls today's country. I'm not much of a country fan, but I am definitely a fan of John Anderson!
