600,000 subs is crazy, so glad that a new Gran Tourismo game is coming out so you have something fresh to play! This was the best win ever in all motor racing ever!!!!!!!
Agreed. Steve is quite a gifted commentator now. I wonder if he needs many takes to do his voice overs. It feels natural and well spoke. Remind me of Jimmy Boi. Hoping for some GT Academy or World Tour commentary from both Steve and Jimmy!
If you look at the original Superutes (commodores and falcons) they're far from the same size, also the Tundra in real life is still close to 1.5x the size of the Colorado's, Rangers, BT50s, Tritons and D Max's currently used. Completely different league and ball game, if they had f100s and rams or the equivalent to the Tundra you could say it's heavily upscaled and probably more fun in the tighter areas.
I wish they’d do more fun daily races like this one! Something about it being funny to watch makes getting punted a lot less frustrating. I think sometimes gt needs to let it’s hair out a bit :)
Glad you asked...Yes! The sharp turn before the 'Conrod Straight' (due to cars over revving @ throwing rods in the 60's n 70's long before The Chase was added) or "back straight" in your reference, is called 'Forrest Elbow'. This is due to a motorcycle racer by the name of Jack Forrest 'low-siding' his bike and literally grinding off almost an inch from the pointy bit of his left elbow, it was just squared right off. Never stopped him racing, though. As a teenager, I knew him in the days he was retired and riding with the Vintage Motorcycle Club of Australia. Ans yes, he was still damn quick. We used to do 'parade laps' with the vintage (1920-1929) and post vintage (1930-1939) bikes on Easter Sunday during the Australian Grand's Prix that were held there circa early 80's. I remember ('83?) he was clocked through the speed trap at the end of Conrod Straight on a well tuned 1930's Brough Superior that he owned @118MPH! Because it wasn't a race,.. unless there was more than one motorcycle on the track at any time! Also, Happy 600k!
This reminds me of driving my hilux on Bathurst irl Edit: As for section names, from start to finish is Pit straight, hell corner, mountain straight, Griffens bend, the cutting (pair of left handers), quarry corner, Reid Park, Sulman Park, McPhillamy Park (all named after the parks on each corner), Skyline (AKA Brock's Skyline, nicknamed after Aussie Motorist Peter Brock who won multiple championships and endurance races on Bathurst, most recognisedrace being in the Holden Torana with a 6 lap lead setting the fastest lap on the last lap while overtaking back markers), the Esses and Dipper, Forrest's elbow, Conrad straight, the chase, Murray's corner back onto pit straight.
I like it how with the usual GR.3, the slightest tap gets you a penalty But with these trucks, the most egregious passes with massive contact is considered A-OK
10 years and 600k subs of Shadow Realm madness. There's nothing quite like your channel for sim racing Steve! Wish many more subs and videos in future.
Starting at Main Straight, the first left is Hell Corner, up Mountain Straight to the right-hander Griffin's Bend, climbing sharply, left through The Cutting, right through Quarry, reaching the top of the mountain through The Parks, enjoying the view along Skyline before going back down through The Esses and The Dipper, braking hard for the left at Forrest's Elbow (mind the bump), trying to get on the gas early for the drag down Conrod Straight, navigating The Chase before the final left at Murray's Corner back onto Main Straight.
You wanted an Aussie to confirm corner names for you. You are correct, the corner onto the back straight is Forrest's Elbow, named for a motorbike rider (Jack Forrest) who crashed hard on it and severley damaged his elbow. The straight is actually called Conrod Straight, named after the many engines that have died on that straight. A couple others you might want to know. First corner is Hell Corner, named for a tree stump that used to be there and when motorbikes used to race the circuit. Basically, if you dropped the bike, the stump would send you to Hell. The other important corner is turn 4, known as The Cutting. Named for the fact it was cut into the mountain. A nice steep left hander. The game doesn't really had trouble showing what the elevation change is like compared to driving it in real life.
You are correct. The final tight left-hander coming down the hill is Forrest's Elbow. According to wikipedia, it was named so after motorcycle racer, Jack Forrest, crashed there in 1947, and ground off the end of his elbow. People started calling it "the Elbow" or "the Devil's Elbow", and then other riders started calling it "Forrest's Elbow". That's a pretty good bit of racing lore, if you ask me.
I've tried Ford F-150 Raptor Funhavers at Long Beach Street Circuit in Project Cars band it was fun as well! Sometimes the slower cars bring you the best racing you've ever had.
The very first time I drove around a proper race track it was at a race school in Oklahoma. The instructor took us out to show us the racing line in a crew-cab diesel pick-up truck and it totally blew my mind how fast that thing could go and how well it could handle in the right hands.
I feel so honored to have witnessed the most important victory in motorsport history. I can't wait to tell my still non-existent grandchildren I was here.
8:10 vtec kicks in, yo. Yes, forest's elbow was named after a motorcyclist (?) Years ago who layed his bike over at that location. Maybe he also left a portion of elbow there too.
Funny you pointed out that Marshall post. I believe there's footage of a V8 Supercar flying.over the barrier and totally destroying that Marshall post. The Marshall jumped clear just in time.
This race is a perfect example to why I wish GT Sport had one extra wildcard race on the daily race section, Or something similar to the Forza Hopper! I love seeing and participating in wacky races like this lol
The reason i got into the sim racing is because i came across your videos. You made it fun enough for me to consider to buy my first rig, something simple you know... Hello from Portugal (subbed since 10 of may 2021)
A friend and I were out racing many years ago. About 80 mph I closed the gap and floored it to pass him. He was in a big ole truck and I was in a base model Plymouth Laser with 1.8. While behind him and drafting, I accelerated quickly. The moment I pulled out and got fresh air...my car started to slow down. These truck are pushing so much air the slip stream should be more like Gran Turismo typically is and over powered. Doesn't look like it here.
Thank you all for 600k subs!

Congrats on the 600k subs and to many more!

This race might have been trying to recreate the Australian Superutes Series, same size utes, proper Aussie circuit and a standing start
If you look at the original Superutes (commodores and falcons) they're far from the same size, also the Tundra in real life is still close to 1.5x the size of the Colorado's, Rangers, BT50s, Tritons and D Max's currently used.
