Story of so many clubs up and down the country - I'm on the South Coast and the town and city centres just aren't what they used to be in the 90's and early 2000's - There was such a great vibe but social media making people all think they deserve luxury and drinks prices has killed it dead.
It’s so weird seeing this knowing I went to Moka many times. Never knew there was a secret ground floor bit that they never used while it was Moka!!! They should’ve kept that it would’ve been even bigger and better! Can’t believe it’s been nearly 3 years… Still sad that it closed 😩 they’re turning it into flats soon.
The ground floor club wasn't used when Moka was open, so they only ran on 50% of the building which is a shame. The whole nightclubbing industry is struggling unfortunately
The club opened in the mid 90s as ikon Diva. It had a 3rd floor VIP lounge called the Gallary. The ground floor was Diva, on a Thursday night it was £20 entry all you can drink. The club changed to liquid envy in 2008, and then to Moka. The club use to feed off all the bars in crawley high street, there were loads through the 90s & 00s. The high street on a Friday and Saturday night was packed. Then the recession hit and bars closed, never opened again or kept changing hands. Plus the town started to decline, dodgy characters moving to the area from abroad, the vibe vanished. I for one, had a bloody cracking time from 2001 - 2008, pretty much every weekend in my early 20s.
I just gone past the old Moka Nightclub this morning, they are now starting to demolish it I am shocked it been closed since 2019 I thought it had shut because of Cornovirus pandemic that Overline House needs sorting out now it a dirty old building .
Night clubs have a short time of customers, usually only open and busy late on a Friday and Sat night (5hrs) and have to be packed to pay for the weeks rent on the place, hence entry fees.
Luminary’s also ran the night club in redhill, the embassy back in the days I also worked in there, it’s now apartments a lot of planning as listed building shame it was changed to apartments. There was a lot of history there an would had been awesome to done ghost explores there due to the projector man from buzbys/millionaires cinema guy committed suicide in projector room upstairs there. My ma worked there when I was just 3 for a good few years. My brother and I used to love going to work with her, we used to explore from top to bottom. It was quite spooky as started experiencing paranormal at age 5 there. Love seeing abandoned night club videos, cheers guys for sharing ( sorry for spelling mistakes an I’m not good for wording)

When the club was Liquid & Envy the downstairs club was Envy. When rebrand to Moka they never reopened ground floor club. But one year they held a Halloween party in the ground floor club before the whole venue closed down. Deltic group said the club was only running on 50% capacity, and that's because they only used upstairs lol.
@@tsuk2018 I used to go to moka almost every weekend when I 18 - 20. The upstairs was like a cheesy song room where they would play old hit. The main club would play more of your dance music / newer songs. Sad they never used the empty space for another room. Seems like such a waste
@@amymcilwraith1424 I think it was intentially done when rebranded to Moka, they were not getting enough footfall to warrant the room downstairs. Rent for a massive building like that, and not making half the potential income they could have done.
Wow this is a blast from the past. In March 1998 I got a job here when I was 17 turned 18 it was called Ikon and Diva run by Rank Entertainment yes the Film company. Downstairs was Diva for 24 year old and over Ikon upstairs. Then changed to Moka many years later. Was a fantastic club and pulled many woman. Now all knocked down.

Back in the day when it was Ikon Diva, Diva was the downstairs area and was only for over 25s.
